The atmosphere was buzzing with energy, but still felt warm and welcoming. One of the owners even took time to chat with us and share the story of how The 8th Side came to be. That kind of personal touch always sticks with me--it's a real neighborhood gem with heart. Although the kitchen was closing by the time we arrived (I had my eye on their noodles!), we did grab some drinks and checked out their corner filled with Pokémon cards, collectibles, and merch. If you're into games, anime, or just enjoy friendly, community-driven spaces, this spot definitely has something for you. The staff is great, both guys were very helpful and talented demonstrators of various tricks. I mentioned how familiar all the props seemed from when I used to visit a little magic shop in Ferndale in the 1970s owned by Romeg the Magician and then Poof! As if by magic they pointed to a photo behind the counter and told me that this store was in fact the second reincarnation of that very magical place from my childhood, transported to Clawson 40 years later. What an amazing coincidence that I should take my nephews to buy tricks at the same place that made me fall in love with prestidigitation all those years ago. I bet that some of the items lining the walls were actually the same props from all those years ago. If you love magic this is the place to go.

Their attention to detail is greatly appreciated.  I am especially happy about their open house days when the public can enter the building and watch as the work is done to build and maintain the railways as well as operate the trains and the switching system. If you have young ones interested in engineering, machines and commerce as well as nature, this is a great place to visit.  It's wonderful for all ages.  Train safety is also a matter that is taken very seriously at this location and that is important because this area has a lot of full sized trains - and learning safety during play and work on the miniaturized scale is meaningful and provides an important public service. It's a great way to spend an afternoon.
