Because my doctor's appointment was nearby, I came along with him. I am currently 39 weeks pregnant and scheduled for a C-section tomorrow. While browsing, I found items I intended to purchase, but first needed to use the restroom. I asked the employee at the desk if there was a restroom available, and I was told the closest one was across the street at a gas station. This was confusing, considering this is a shop where patrons often spend hours browsing, trading cards, and participating in tournaments. When I pointed that out, another employee chimed in to say the restroom was "not open to the public" unless there was a tournament. At that point, multiple employees began offering explanations that felt dismissive rather than helpful. As a visibly very pregnant customer, accompanying my husband who is an established patron, being told to walk across the street to a gas station restroom felt incredibly inconsiderate and humiliating. I ultimately walked away because the interaction was becoming upsetting. My husband was equally frustrated, and we left immediately. I understand businesses can have restroom policies, but basic compassion and customer service matter--especially in situations involving pregnancy or medical need. This experience left a very negative impression.

I was able to find some games that I had never seen in California, for example Hanamikoji which I ended up buying! Price seemed reasonable and comparable to what I see here in California. I had a great time browsing board games here and had a wonderful time shopping here. My only comment was I hope the staff were a little bit friendlier to us - they helped us with what we needed but they were not smiling or wouldn't go out of their way to be friendly to us, I would say. But I still had a good time here :)

Green Brain has adequate selection of Marvel (huzzah!) and DC (meh! I might mess with some Batman though). They've got floor space dedicated to kids - no comments from the peanut gallery about all comics being for kids please. Exhibit A backing up my previous statement is their selection of graphic novels. There's a smattering of indie comics and a stray zine or two as well. The discount racks are pretty dismal. Yeah, I know they're discounted for a reason, but I've had some success at other shops unearthing diamonds in the rough that I haven't here. Too much wannabe Marvel / DC pollute the stacks here. Not smart stuff like Image but real dumb ass stereotypical genre dreck. It's easy to avoid that part of the store, to be fair there's enough elsewhere but I can never seem to poke my head through there just long enough to be disgusted, especially when "Big Gretch" had comics shops shuttered for months. Green Brain used to occasionally have artists come in for signings. I got a little signed sketch of Jared from Superjail! executed by one of the show's animators to prove it. (Yeah, I'm a jerk; I forget the guy's name.) I'm not sure if they still do stuff like this. My travels don't often take me to Dearborn, but my sister lives over there so GB is a fun place to pop into if I go over there. My last visit I scored an X-Men collection from the early 70s featuring X-Men appearing in other Marvel comics as their title was cancelled for awhile due to low sales, only available as reprints. It's got a number of Hank McCoy escapades and most notably Wolverine's very first appearance when he squared up as an adversary for the Incredible Hulk. I also scored a collection of comics about the Rolling Stones, a Hawkeye compilation and a couple of solo Wolverine comics. Not to brag, but the masked man behind the counter said I made good selections. And you know how fussy those guys can be! Like even more opinionated than Yelp reviewers sometimes...

Upon walking in, I was greeted by my loves Hudson, Connor, and Pedro so off to a phenomenal start. There's a lot of natural light the pours into the shop, a cute and quaint seating area in the back, book/character themed artwork (adored) and so much more! I loved the book selection as well given I love reading romance books and that's what the shop is known for! I had to narrow it down but settled on Please Don't Go thanks to the help of the shop owner. Who btw, has the cutest shop dog! Also, got to obsess over some fan fictions I've read with the owner and it made me so happy. They had flower bouquets for sale by the door which I thought was a really nice touch! Such a treat and anytime I'm in the area I will definitely be back!

Yes, it is romance only, so if that isn't what you're looking for you'll have to head to another bookstore. Carolyn is fantastic! She has an amazing selection of indie authors and trad pub authors, and is always available with a recommendation when asked.
