I had the day off on Friday and decided to surprise my daughter with breakfast out. We had to run an errand at Hy-Vee and noticed that they serve a traditional café style breakfast and we decided to stay. We were NOT disappointed! I landed on the breakfast burrito and I have been thinking about it every since. It was a big tortilla filled with sausage, potatoes, onions and peppers. I had salsa and sour cream on the side. For $6, this thing couldn't be beat! My daughter got the pancakes. I asked how big they are to see if we needed to get more than 2 and the lovely girls at the counter told us they were big. WHOA! 1- These pancakes are HUUUUGE! 2- They are, hands down, THE thickest pancakes I've ever seen in my life! My daughter and I shared 1 and could not even attempt the second so we took it home for later. These cakes are seriously 1 1/2 inches thick and they taste amazing. The batter has such a nice vanilla flavor to it. I have been craving them ever since! For the price and the convenience, this place is hands down a winner. We will definitely be back soon! read more

Sorry HyVee, your Deli was awesome, your Market Grille is not. The food is mediocre, the atmosphere is worse.

Great service, we were greeted right away. I had the bone in wings which are huge and perfectly cooked. The portion is perfect to not need anything else to accompany the wings. Large beer selection. My wife had the buffalo caesar flat bread. It was amazing! Crispy flat bread with great flavor. Perfect amount of toppings. Also they give veterans a discount. We will definitely be back read more

Love Hy-Vee for my grocery shopping (and the Chinese express), however their Market Grill is "meh." This is our second trip there - the first time we sat on the dining side and it was so very noisy. This time we opted for the bar side which was more relaxed and intimate. Our bartender made great cocktails (old fashions), however was very minimal with her interactions with us. For our first course we went with the bruschetta which was the highlight of the night - all fresh ingredients and very flavorful. For our main entrees I ordered the Cuban sliders with fries, while my husband went with the blackened shrimp tacos. I loved my sliders (2) perfect portion size and served on Kong's Hawaiian buns, thus a sweet and salty combo! My fries were mediocre - brown and soft - not the crispy and golden that I prefer. My husband's shrimp tacos were very bland - he let me have a bite and I immediately said "we make better at home." They were also somewhat cold - which is very unappealing to me. He definitely said I made the better entree choice, I second that! All in all Hy-Vee Market Grill is either a hit or a miss. I think having such a large menu (breakfast all day, burgers, pizza, sushi, Chinese, pasta, etc) makes the food less of a delicacy and I wonder how much of it is probably frozen... read more

Just stopped in for all you can eat CRAB Legs $27.99 did I say ALL YOU CAN EAT!!! Chef Tony you know how to keep us happy! Great legs fresh better then Red Lobsters I did not have to fight to get the meat out and they was not rubbery. Had the best Bloody Mary I have ever had and the hubby had a draft beer and it was cold and clean! If you ever had a beer out of a dirty tap you know what a clean beer is like.. Yes heaven. Went for a good ol Sunday brunch and was not disappointed. Very nice mimosa bar with many different options/flavors. Jeremy was cooking the shit out some omelettes out by the buffet and staff was making sure everything was in order. It was hardly busy around the time I went so it would be interesting to see how it is then, but never the less I was very satisfied. Great breakfast alternative at a very affordable price. I came more mid morning with a friend. Menu selection was plenty good. Service attentive. Loved that I did get 2 bags of chosen tea and unlimited hot water refills for 1 cup price. Comfy, clean interior and nobody rushes you out the door when you done eating. Will be back. read more

We came here for breakfast. First of all they got our order wrong. My eggs were ordered over easy and were like rubber. My husband got the chicken fried steak and they brought him beef fried steak then when he told them the just brought out 2 chicken strips to replace it. The managers uniform was dirty as well. The ambiance was nice, there is a full bar. The food comes directly from the grocery store and for the most made to order. I had scallops and roasted vegetables, along with 4 pieces of California roll sushi. The scallops were only seated on one side which the first time I've ever had them that way. This place is awesome I am picky about my steak and they cooked it perfectly. I order medium rare and they nailed it. Our waitress (Morgan) was friendly attentive and great. Great atmosphere that tricks you in to forgetting you are in a grocery store! Menu is varied but my favorites are the flatbread pizza, Sunrise Burger and the Sirloin for dinner. I don't know about you but I really liked the old deli seating HyVee used to have. I never went to HyVee for an experience but rather for good food at an affordable price. I liked the open airy feeling with open seating. I always saw people I knew or could make new friends. I'll start by saying I visited after the lunch hour, so they may have been on a lean staff. I could write 1,000 words but I won't. Very slow service. Servers (I had two) both were a little socially awkward. Then things like telling to wrong soup of the day, instead of telling me, they waited until bringing my sushi out if I cared for the correct soup of the day. Didn't bring chopsticks or soy sauce for me sushi, etc. The soup and sushi was fine, but didn't expect soup and sushi to take 20-30 minutes to arrive in an empty restaurant. read more

The service was kind of slow for getting us our food and the ribs my wife ordered were WAY overdone. Almost burnt. Definitely not "fall off the bone." My food was good, though. I ordered snow crab legs with two sides (garlic mashed potatoes and seasoned seasonal veggies). This was a chef's special for only $10! They ended up taking the ribs off our ticket and giving us a free dessert for the trouble. The dessert was some sort of cream cheese rangoon with vanilla and raspberry sauce. That was also excellent. We decided to try it for Easter Brunch. When we arrived, we were unsure if we were to be seated or if we needed reservations. So I stood at thr desk for approximately 2 minutes the person behind the desk was ignoring me. Ok, it was Easter and it was busy, so I tried again and finally put my name down for a short wait. The buffet line is out in the deli area of thr store. You are making choices to fill your plate while people are in the deli aisle shopping. The person who took our drink order only came by our table once never to return to ask us if we wanted a refill only to present us with a check. The buffet has a great variety of items to choose from and was quite good. The reason I rated it so low, the layout was confusing and the wait staff did not appear to have experience in the restaurant business. read more

Preferred the way HyVee seating used to be. Only bought a few pizza slices to eat which we carried ourselves from the counter and had to sit in the restaurant to eat where they acted like they expected tips. Uncomfortable. Likely won't eat at HyVee any more when want a quick lunch. read more

We went to the one on Mt Vernon Road... it wasn't good. They served me a raw cheeseburger and I was so disgusted when I bit into that. I had the urge to throw up the rest of the day. The server was exceptional and did not charge us for my meal and was very apologetic but blehhh. We won't go back again. The staff at this restaurant really needs to up it's game and hyvee management needs to work on training staff better. I was disappointed to say the least. read more

Bad service, our bartender (an older woman, Mary I think?) had the worst attitude, like we were bothering her by being there. Fortunately there were two younger servers who kept checking on us and they were nice enough. I asked for a drink with mint and she said they were out, 20 minutes later I mentioned to the younger server I was disappointed they didn't have mint for a drink I wanted and she pulled three packages out of the cooler. My food was disgusting. I ordered the portobello sandwich and the fries were cold and rock hard. The sandwich was drenched in water and grease, and the bun was chewy and gross. The bartender didn't check on us once, until well after I had pushed my mostly uneaten plate to the side. I told her it was gross and I wasn't offered anything else, and it was not taken off my bill. Her only comment to my complaint was "hmm". I left truly upset by the service and disappointed in the food. Will not be back. read more
