I wanted a cheeseburger. A cheeseburger in the worst way. I posted on Facebook to get suggestions. I scoured YELP to narrow my list. I thought I had my cheeseburger place picked out and then I remembered I had to get groceries. Since I was going to HyVee for groceries anyway I decided to try the new Market Grille. Negative reviews be gone! This place was great! I ordered take out, though, and no alcohol. I ordered when I first went to the store and picked it up on the way home. I ordered my cheeseburger and it was cooked to perfection. I had several choices of cheeses and how can that ever be bad? My burger was cooked exactly as I ordered. It came fully dressed and it was delicious. I was given a variety of options for sides, too. I ordered a baked potato which was so yummy! There was no extra charge for the potato or the butter and sour cream I wanted. I also wanted scallions and I was informed there was an extra cost for those. I appreciated being kept in the loop as to prices. The potato was cooked perfectly through and it was very tasty. My food was not hot but that was my fault. I shopped too long and the food cooled. Lol. I Will definitely be a repeat customer. All the staff was nice, food was great and the prices reasonable. UPDATE: I've been back a few times and I am removing one star because of inconsistency in service. The food is terrific but the service gets lopsided. Orders incorrect, no silverware, waiter who was leaving his shift and checked us out to get his tip, just not being waited on at all. They truly need to work on these issues. Sad to say, the full service menu at this restaurant has drastically contracted to little more than a few sandwiches. To acquire the options on the prior large menu, you now will need to go into the supermarket, acquire what you want there, and bring it into the restaurant. The formerly full service restaurant at HyVee operates now as a cafeteria. That cafeteria system is similar to the one at the Dillon's supermarkets. read more

This was our first (and last) time. We were here during " happy hour." The managers need to do a better job of training. The server didn't know what beers or cocktails were on special during happy hour. We were told all of the cocktails were happy hour specials. We ordered margaritas. The assistant manager came overs and said those are not included. She said happy hour did not include signature cocktails. However, that is not mentioned anywhere. In fact, the term " signature cocktail " is not even referenced anywhere. She went in to say that happy hour is only one well liquor and one mix, like rum & Coke. No where is this mentioned, not in the menu, not on a board, not on a tent. Their guests are supposed to just figure this out on their own. The server brought out rolls that were straight from the refrigerator cold. The hamburger was ordered medium well. It can out well done and smashed to death. It was extremely dry. The ground beef on the nachos contains no seasoning, not even salt and pepper. At the end of the meal, the assistant manager can by and asked us our everything was. We were honest about the experience. Based on her reaction and comments, I don't expect any improvements. All in all, there are many places that are better. There is a new format: Market Grille Express. And, now, it's basically self service. Except when it's not. And, the staff does a less than stellar job of explaining when it's not. Mother's Day Buffet, for example. Step behind the partition and there's a "full service buffet". But, wait, you still have to step to the register outside the grille (which is overcrowded and inadequate) to pay for your food first. (What in the CiCi's pizza Batman?!) Okay. Now, do you get silverware? Ummm. I can see the rolled silverware (in paper napkins), but I have yet to have the staff actually offer me any. Who gets you more coffee? More juice? It's a lot like a cafeteria. And, we all know how popular cafeterias are . . . Yeah. There are way too many places that do a much better job in terms of service for me to spend money here. That's a shame. I liked coming here. The servers knew my name and order. Then, I would shop. Now, I'll Instacart it and be done. read more

Late night on a Friday. Half price beers and apps. Even though we came in near close, we received fantastic service. I order my wings with the buffalo sauce on tbe side, they come out extra crispy and awesome! Lady got the trio chips and dip app.. She chose salsa, guac, and queso. All were excellent! Here's the deal: it's inside a grocery store. It's always going to be, and feel, inside a grocery store. HOWEVER happy hour makes it easy to overlook the fact that you are inside a grocery store, and sit back to enjoy and good deal. The beers and apps are half price from 4-6, and you really can't beat that. They have good craft beers on tap too, from our beloved local Freestate and Boulevard to breweries and cider houses all over the country. I'd estimate they have a good 12-16 beers on tap at a time. There's no better time to try a new one when it's half off! The apps are good too, and although not the best I've ever had, still worth trying. I've had the sweet chili wings, pepperoni pinwheels, and dip trio. Lots of bar food-type choices, which means everyone can find something they're interested in. It's a good place to drop in after a day of Christmas shopping, before a KU basketball game, or to grab something to go after work. They've done a good job of making this feel like a real restaurant, and while you're still going to get that grocery store feel, it's worth giving it a shot! read more

We were looking for some breakfast and if you know Lawrence you know the good ones have long wait times on the weekend. If you're not checking this place out you're missing out. We were blown away by how good the food was and the drinks (yes, alcohol in a grocery store in Kansas). Waitress was friendly and prompt, bloody Marys were excellent and the food was outstanding. I had traditional eggs Benedict with breakfast potatoes and my husband had a breakfast burrito and both were delicious. There is a good selection of beer on tap and daily specials. read more

Ok it's a cafe in the grocery store. Honestly I wanted a Bloody Mary prior to shopping. Sometimes a good Bloody Mary is really refreshing Refreshing yes, but definitely lacking the booze. More of a Virgin Mary. Again...grocery store. I snacked on a flat bread. Nothing too fancy, believe it or not, there's almost too much meat! So definitely $9 worth. Service is a little off and really slow, but I'm having a cocktail before grocery shopping, suppose it's not a big deal. I may shop at this location more often. read more

We decided to give it a try. Staff was friendly and service was good but hard to get by the hyvee feel! Light were bright which made it feel like the old hyvee eating area. Food was average but way overpriced! Salmon was 16 and my wife order halibut for 18! Happy Hour is great. Stick to party foods. I ordered Halibut w wild rice and broccoli. It obviously had sat under a heat lamp for a bit the broccoli was dry and warm. Not hot. The rice was good. But reminded me of a Rice a Toni mix. Halibut was $20, parts were good. Parts were dr. From under the heat lamp. I like the mango salsa. My companion ordered the scallops. They were perfectly done. A little sandy. Sauce was good. Fresh vegetables of squash and carrots were very good. The place was packed for Happy Hour. Staff was a bit over whelmed. $5 wine. Yet I was charged $6. It was corrected. It took us close to 15 minutes to find our waiter to get it corrected. Not as busy after Happy Hour. Will try again but stick to what I call bar food. read more

We really enjoyed the all you can eat crab legs. Waitress kept asking if we wanted more to eat and had fresh hot crabs legs coming until we were full. I have shopped at Hyvee many times before but I had never been to the Market Grille. I decided today to try it out. My mother had the Reuben sandwich I had the Hawaiian burger and we both had sweet potato fries and a drink first off let's be honest the prices are a little steep considering that this is a restaurant inside of a grocery store. However, my burger was fresh cooked pretty well and the flavors were pretty pretty good. My mother enjoyed her Ruben. My only complaint is that I almost had to wait an hour and it was an online order. Online orders do not take nearly as long even after going up there to pick it up they still made me wait 40 minutes for my food. They claim that they make it fresh but still it shouldn't take an hour for you to get food that doesn't have a delivery or anything like that. I will definitely go back, but my one suggestion is is that no one who orders online should have to wait an hour after they arrive to pick up their food to get it. If I could leave a zero I would. We ordered two appetizers, waited 30minutes (had the buzzer), went up to the counter and our food was sitting there. We said to three people "that's our food" but they kept walking around and smiling and not helping us. Finally a girl from the bar came over and was talking to what seemed like her friend on the phone and gave us a refund. The guy bartender was great... the rest of it was junk. Don't go there. Wife and I had burgers. Both were very good. However, prices are high and service was TERRIBLE. Shouldn't take an hour to dine in a mostly empty restaurant. Bartender did most of the waiting because other server was busy. Then actual waitress came by table, filled water, dropped off check and that was the last we saw of her. Appetizers were Fire something Shrimp. Very tasty with Asian crispy noodles. A surprising delight. We both ordered 12 oz Strip steaks. They were delicious. Chef truly knew how to grill medium rare, which is a rarity theses days. Very tender juicy and awesome. Baked potato was awesome. Only downfall was the garlic mashed potatoes. They were a bit bland. I was a little hesitant after reading all the negative reviews, but we had lunch there today and it was pretty good. We had the bacon jalapeño wantons for apps, and they were awesome. We both had the buffalo chicken sandwiches fried. I personally didn't care for it because it was just a frozen processed chicken patty, but my husband loved it. When we said a "table for five" she shrugged and said, we are full. She said we would probably have to wait 20 minutes. This place is great! I love the selection of food and everything is so fresh. The atmosphere is awesome its like your not even in a grocery store. Last night was the first time I tried Hyvee's Market Grille. Our appetizer was delicious; we ordered the bruschetta. However, for my meal, I ordered the chicken Parmesan and the chicken was super dry and chewy! It was almost hard to eat. The service was okay, kind of slow. This restaurant is a great place to go either on its own, or prior to grocery shopping. It is a great location as it is in the middle of town AND within a grocery store. The servers, hosts, and cooks are always friendly and presenting a great attitude. The food comes out cooked perfectly to your request/order. Definitely not worth it. For 3 people it was $50 and the servers didn't give any manners. The food was cold and didn't even have a taste to it. We have been coming into this Hyvee market grill for the past 4weeks and every time it's a delight!! But the biggest thing we noticed was how great the staff is! Christina, had been awesome to us the last two times we went in there! She really really is a great server and goes out of her way to make you feel so important as a customer!! Usually a good place to go. Burgers and fries are delicious. Service was super slow tonight. We got our drink order in a timely manner but our main server didn't get to us until much later even though the place wasn't busy. She did however, seem to be giving good service to tables around us. She took our order and then only checked on us once after we got our food from another server. I ended up finding a piece of hair in my fries and had to wait for her to come check on us which was awhile. She didn't handle the situation very well and then we had to wait yet again for me to pay the check. So usually a 4 star place was only 2 tonight because of bad service. read more

Wanted to try the new Market Grille for Sunday Brunch. The four of us in our party were seated promptly and chose to order from the menu since we felt $14.95 for traditional scrambled eggs, biscuits & gravy, sausage, fresh fruit and limited fish offerings was a bit pricey for our taste. Staff was very pleasant, but it took 50 minutes from our arrival until we were served. Server was apologetic, but it wasn't her fault the kitchen stood her up. We did voice our concern to one of the managers. Will return to the 6th Street location next time we want a Hy-Vee Sunday brunch. read more

My family and I went here because "New Year's Brunch" was advertised from 10am-2pm. We made a 10:30am reservation. When we arrived, we were told the brunch was actually the regular buffet they typically offered but it was now shut down because "we only made one sale." The restaurant maybe had five other patrons when we arrived, so that's probably true. The service was horrendously slow; it took approximately 25-30 minutes to get our food (there were three of us and we ordered pretty basic food). Two of the three meals were inedible. For example, I ordered biscuits and gravy, which is one of my favorite Hy-Vee breakfast items. The gravy had some sort of mystery meat in it, which we thought may have been turkey sausage... but we were informed they do not serve turkey sausage gravy. We will definitely not be returning. read more

Been to this place a few times and it is one of those places that the food was superb but the service was awful. Never made a complaint at all until recently. Went in Sunday for brunch and it was a complete disaster. The person who normally runs the omelette station wasn't there and it definitely showed. Raw food on the buffet and in my opinion way over priced for the amount of food that was on there this particular Sunday. Normally the guy who works out there has an excellent selection and everything is set up real nice. Went in a couple days after for dinner. We asked for a manager so we could ask why it took almost 20 minutes to get our drink order. You could tell by her body language that she had an attitude. She simply turned up her nose and said the bartender was backed up. Mind I tell you there were only 5-6 tables full and no one at the bar. When our food came out my husband had ordered a steak which was dry and overcooked. I tried to order a salad that I had purchased once before and was told I couldn't because it wasn't on the menu and the person that had previously made it no longer worked there. Umm..ok! Way too much information, lady! All in all go in for Sunday brunch when the chef is there but avoid any other time.
