We came for brunch and I got the Pabelleon arepa which was DELICIOUS; such a nice cook on the arepa and the flavor was rich - I did not, however, have the banana chips because they come from a shared fryer. The staff are knowledgeable about these risks for CC and will offer substitutes (I got a small side salad) We also ended with the chocolate tres leches - YUMMMM, all their desserts are marked GF or not in the case up front. We had a wonderful experience at Delicias Del Sur. My husband and I visited a while ago and really enjoyed our time with Raul, the bartender/server, Jelly and Jayden. They all helped us from answering questions to making recommendations and general knowledge about the restaurant, menu and its origins. The restaurant has a nice and bright interior as well as outside patio seating. We arrived in time for their daily Happy hour which is 50% off drinks plus you get free tapas. This is one of the BEST Happy Hours in town, with hh lasting until 6pm daily and the GENEROUS 50% off is unbeatable!!!. My favorite free tapas was the plantain chips! For the libations I had the gorgeous and delightful "Traffic light" and a tasty Caipiroska and my husband an Old Fashioned or 2. All were very flavorful. We also sampled a number of Tapas; Sampler, Cuban croquettes, Coxinha and Chili Brussel Sprouts. This was fun tasting dishes from around the world, Im not sure what my favorite app was but we enjoyed every mouthwatering bite that was on our plates. And for desert I had maracuyá pie (passion fruit) and it was devine. You must give this place a try, they are open for breakfast, happy hour, dinner there's a time to fit everyones schedule. This restaurant is in the location of the former Tapas restaurant which replaced the Thai House that had previously been there. Delicias Del Sur is far better then either of its predecessors. The restaurant is on the east side of Mass. St. Although downtown parking can be a problem, there is a very convenient parking lot behind it on New Hampshire. From that lot, there is a concrete walkway between the buildings along Mass St. That walkway goes from the parking lot to Mass St close to the restaurant. We arrived on a Saturday at 4 pm and left at 5 pm. There were many available spaces when we arrived and still some available when we left, including handicapped spaces close to that concrete walkway to Mass St. The parking lot is about half way between 7th St and 8th St and is easily reached from 6th St, which leads to New Hampshire street from the west. The restaurant was originally represented as for breakfast and lunch, but now is open in the evening with excellent dinner choices with an emphasis on Latin American preparations. However, they still do have an appealing display of pastry, which would be excellent for breakfast (or for dessert). Our server told us she is Cuban. We got both the Peruvian Ceviche and the Atlantic Salmon which includes rice made the Cuban way without chicken stock. Both of those entrees were excellent. We also got the Potato and Cheese Fritters appetizer, which was excellent. There are many choices of drinks from their full bar, including some Mocktails and some nonalcoholic beers, including Corona and Heineken's NA. I got the Corona NA. Next time I will try the Heineken's NA. They also have Topo Chico carbonated mineral water. It is good, but the bottle of beer alone would have been adequate. During happy hour, cocktails and beers are half price and tapas are free. When I ordered the beer, I was not told about the free tapas. But I pointed them out to the server, when I saw them on the menu. I got the fried plantain for free. Next time I'll try the fries for free. Happy hour is M, F, Sat 2-6pm and W, Thur 4-6 pm. The dining room is attractive. We chose a table near the windows with a view of Mass Street. Our one disappointment was the chairs in the dining room. The seats are hard wood without cushions, not especially comfortable for a leisurely dinner. In fact if the seating had been more comfortable, we might have stayed for dessert. There also is outdoor seating which appears to be more comfortable. The next time we are there, if the weather is good, we will choose an outdoor table. read more

But first, coffee!! Late breakfast for me at 10:30 on a Friday morning, but lovely place. Not many folks at this hour, in fact the one other diner just left so now it's just me and staff! The food is delicious. I opted for the Awesome Veggie B&G. You can tell these are homemade biscuits--the inside is tender and the outside of the biscuit is crisp, good flavor overall. This meal is not vegan, and I don't think it's gluten free, but the flavors are good. I'd like to try their *Beef Style to compare. The cafe mocha is tasty too. Service is fine--not doting but not elusive either. No complaints about that at this establishment. I'd come back to try something else. read more

I was so excited to try Delciias del Sur! I live in MHK so I do not get to Lawrence often when a new restaurant opens. I have been following Delicias del Sur on fb and decided to stop in Lawrence when returning from Kansas City this past weekend. There was an extensive brunch menu, but I asked my server if I could order from the regular menu. He said it was fine, so I got a pabellon arepa! It came out stuffed with shredded beef, black beans, plantains, and cheese and a side of a creamy green sauce. It was hot and tasty! When I first sat down, I was given a carafe of cold water and a clear mug to drink it in. I chatted with the server, who told me he had recently moved from Cuba to the U.S., first to Vegas then to Lawrence. I thought that was pretty random since I moved from Vegas to Kansas too (though I was in LV a lot longer than a few months)! Delicias del Sur has a beautiful dessert case which I walked by but talked myself out of trying anything. I was drawn to a special of the day, coconut cake, and arroz con leche. There was also a tres leches cake (my fave) so I really had to restrain myself. The arepa was very filling and satisfying. The brunch menu has savory and sweet crepes which sounded fun too. The restaurant was also brightly decorated with flags from various Central and South American countries. I will definitely return next time I get to Lawrence! read more

Great food and great service, our waitress Yeli was very sweet and informative. The Ossobuco was incredible, and i'd recommend it to midwesterners who like meat and potatoes, it's really just an italian braised meat served over mash potatoes. Met a friend for breakfast today. Very friendly staff, quick service, and GREAT food! I ordered the Cubano coffee- right on point- and both of us ordered the choripata (?): housemade chorizo with roasted bell peppers, onions and potatoes, topped with 2 any style eggs. We both chose over easy, and they were done perfectly. The decor was lovely; very thematic but understated and comfortable without being kitschy. I bought a canelo to take home for my kid- like a cannelloni but filled with (presumably housemade) caramel. He really enjoyed it. I feel a little silly- I've been thinking this is a South American bakery-ish place, but it's really a full service restaurant. This is a nice place to stop for a coffee and food with comfortable seating and friendly service. I have had several business lunches here, and we typically grab two comfy seats by the windows in front. It's a great place to people watch, and have a quiet conversation with food. The tables we use in front are more like round stands, but there are other regular seats and tables available. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The atmosphere has been pretty quiet, with high ceilings that don't seem to reverberate conversations. The food we have ordered is tasty, and the coffee is good. read more

Fairly new place on Massachusetts and if you are looking for something a bit different, this may be your spot. My friend and I came here. Growing up in Mexico, I get pretty excited over anything Latino based that is also local. My friend is a high school Spanish teacher, so she recommended it. Try the Cafe con Leche, it's really yummy. We had a sample of desserts; blueberry cheesecake, lemon cheesecake and anything with dulce de leche is a win. I got excited when I saw Arepas on the menu as well as URUGUAYAN & ARGENTINIAN EMPANADAS!!! That's truly a rare thing to see in the Midwest. I will gladly return and bring others with me. Sorry I didn't take a picture of the dessert case. The cakes looked great, but I didn't have any room left. I wish i got a video of the drink when the bubble popped because some fun like foggy smoke type stuff came out. That green drink is pretty sweet, so if you don't like sweet don't bother. Mimosas were made with fresh orange juice from the machine. Sex on the beach drinks were made with store bought orange juice. Food was really great. Ambiance was super relaxed at the bar. Our party of three ate at Delicias del Sur for brunch at 12:30 on a Monday afternoon. Everyone enjoyed everything they ordered: chicken arepas, arepas pabelleon, eggs benedict Caracas-style, Power Toast, apple-cinnamon gluten-free crepes. For our gluten-free diner, the crepes were real standouts, with both the filling and the crepe itself being delicious. Portions were generous -- most of us too about half home for another meal. Service was cheerful and relaxed yet efficient. The staff were enthusiastic in recommending favorite dishes and helping guide us to our final choices. The diner who ordered the Cafe Bombon (coffee, whipped cream, and chocolate, served layered in a champagne flute & then stirred together) really liked it.
