    Steak and Eggs Plate

My Aunt and I wanted to try out brunch in Lawrence Saturday morning. A coworker of mine had suggested 6 Mile Chop House. We arrived around 11 to the restaurant and greeted quickly by a Hostess. The restaurant was not very busy yet, and the restaurant it self had a nice intimate vibe to it. The bar area had tv's which had sports playing. We were seated past the bar in another dining area. Our server Dowdy greeted us promptly and took our drink order-we both had coffee, it was a bit chilly in the restaurant-downfall is they only had half and half, no flavored creamer but we got by! The brunch menu had several good options-we both decided on the steak and eggs which was a delicious choice. We also shared a blueberry pancake which was huge! Dowdy checked on us often and made sure we were enjoying our meal. We definitely want to go back.

We went here for Friday night Happy Hour. We sat at the bar and were waited on by Adrian and Sarah, we received excellent service. I asked for a vodka drink and Adrian made a tasty cocktail with vodka, blackberry, and basil after that I had a Rosemary Spritz. It was super delicious with homemade rosemary infused vodka and simple syrup. You should definitely give it a try!! We tried a couple of the appetizers, they were flavorful and the portions were generous. There is plenty of seating in the main room for dining, at the bar or in the lounging area. I think there is additional seating further in the back. It's a lovely place for happy hour or dinner.

Giant cinnamon roll. This also came with blueberries.

Great 8 ounce sirloin. Very nice atmosphere, staff attentive. They have a nice area downstairs for group events.

The restaurant itself is beautiful inside -- a cozy mix of rustic and modern that creates a really inviting atmosphere. Service started a little slow, though our waitress became more attentive once she came by. We mentioned it was our first visit, so I was a bit surprised there wasn't much guidance on the menu or any recommendations. At one point I asked about the two kinds of fries (I love fries!), and the explanation was simply that they were "fancy fries," without much detail on flavors or differences. We started with drinks and the Brussels sprouts appetizer. The sprouts were actually very good, with a nice balance in the sauce, and both the wine and sangria were refreshing. Unfortunately, dinner is where things went downhill. Our meals -- a steak and a gluten-free chicken sandwich -- took about 45 minutes to arrive, which felt long for relatively simple dishes. I had asked about the gluten-free bun since they can sometimes be dry, but didn't receive much insight beyond "it's gluten free," and sadly it was indeed very dry. The chicken itself lacked flavor, though the goat cheese cilantro sauce helped make it somewhat enjoyable. The fries looked homemade and delicious but arrived cold. The steak was cooked as requested, but it didn't have much flavor beyond the mushrooms on top. The broccoli side was tasty, and the potatoes were good, though it on a bed of Some kind of cheese sauce that wasn't quite to our liking. Overall, the space and gluten-free availability were promising, and the appetizers and drinks were enjoyable, but the food execution and service details didn't quite meet expectations for us this visit.

Our waitress was fantastic too: attentive, friendly, on top of everything all night. Where it fell apart was the patio. We were dealing with flies the entire meal -- I mentioned it more than once, and the response was basically 'yeah, we should probably do something about that.' This isn't a cheap night out, and for those prices, that's not acceptable. It's a fixable problem and it wasn't being taken seriously. Food, drinks, and service inside were all a clear win. Management needs to get the patio pest situation under control -- it undercut what would've otherwise been a great night out.
