I also had a falloma margarita which had honey, grapefruit, cinnamon. My daughters had the kimchi fries with fried chicken and the house fried rice, and they loved it too. This is one of my favorite little hidden gems in Lawrence. They did have a restaurant week menu which I'll post for show, but whenever I'm in town I get these amazing Salmon Rangoons. (And that's not a typo folks) They're light and crispy and have an abundance of Salmon in them! Lucky's is also known for their dumplings and especially the Chicken Masala and the traditional pork. The Masala Is just a burst of flavor in an incredible Asian Indian fusion. The traditional dumplings come with both a Ponzu and spicy mustard sauce and like the rangoons, they're perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and warming on the inside. I washed everything down with a refreshing Fall-oma (mezcal, tequila, spiced pear) and "Rich Orchard Affair" (gin, spiced rum). The waitress was extremely nice and she took the time to go over all the restaurant week items to try and tempt our palletes. DUMPLINGS. I LOVE THEM. Let's start by saying that @luckysebs is absolutely magical, wonderful, cozy, bright, warm, and beautiful. Those same words can be used to describe not only the people that work there, but the food as well. I couldn't decide what I wanted so I got 3 things! I ended up taking lots of yummy food home as I bit off more than I could chew (hehehe). AMAZING chicken sandwich! BEST homemade pork dumplings in town (or anywhere near here) and DELICIOUS enchilada dumplings! Now, if you already know about this place, you already know how great it is. This review is for a late lunch for two at the bar on a Saturday in early May. service and bar: Jocelyn was our bartender and she was awesome. Put together a Manhattan for me that was fabulous ($13 as of 05/25). My wife drank a Pas de Problme (a Pinot Noir, $8). All the other waitstaff - servers and food runners - were uniformly professional and engaging. food: My wife had Vietnamese Noodle Salad with grilled chicken ($15) and it was very good. It is a whole lotta noodles. I had Crispy Grilled Sandwich with fries ($15.50). The sammich comes with slaw on it, if that's not your thing. High marks for awesome fries. details: You can sit watching the exhibition kitchen, at the bar, or in two seating areas. Plenty of surface parking right outside. Holy moly!!! Mind blown by this place... we were in town visiting and didn't expect too much. I grew up in San Francisco w a lot of authentic Asian food and dim sum dumplings, etc. So my expectations have always been pretty high. We pulled up and the parking lot and building looked underwhelming from the outside. I was about to be pleasantly surprised. THIS PLACE BLEW MY MIND! I'm still wrapping my head around it: Casual yet swanky in its own way. Kind of a speakeasy meets dive bar meets casual gourmet dining. Anthony Bordain playing on the bar TV, low lighting, booths to slip into, artsy waitresses, casual yet nice atmosphere, a foodie menu that consists of many creative chef touches. And those dumplings.... Oh lawwwdddd! Im still thinking about them a month later. We ordered the classic pork dumplings with the spicy sauce on the side (due to my child). They were PERFECT! Some of the best I've ever had. Perfectly soft and crispy, so flavorful, not greasy, not dry, not chewy, not overly salty. We devoured them way too quickly. We immediately ordered more. Eight was not enough. We ordered the fried rice without any meat. The waitress did mention the pork belly was delicious, but we were trying to eat a bit lighter. This rice was SO good! Very different than any fried rice we'd ever had. Many unique flavors pops and you can just taste how much love and thought went into creating that rice! It's a must try! Our tastebuds were on cloud nine! We wanted to shout it to everyone to go eat there! We went back the next night and got more dumplings to go lol. I've eaten their food a couple of times and it's all excellent. Recently we went for Happy Hour and to dine inside instead of take out. It's not a fancy restaurant but warm and inviting. We were taken care if by the bartender, Josh, she gave us beyond excellent service. From the HH menu we ordered chicken wings which were smoky and delicious, also the dumplings and cucumbers were fresh and tasty. We also had cocktails and mine was SUPER!!! The "Fairy Nectar", it features vodka, blueberry, lemon and triple sec with glitter and a sugar rim. It tasted amazing. We ordered The kimchi fries which were perfectly spiced, generous portions and also amazing. To go home we ordered Pad Thai with tofu, Brisket Fried Rice and Big Brisket Sandwich. I enjoyed the Vietnamese Noodle Salad in the past. I can't say enough about the delicacies Ive eaten here. The brisket no matter what it's on is one of the BEST I have ever had.....hands down. Updated review. We've been several times since this initial one and they have done a major remodel on the restaurant, including table service. Really expanded and made the place very cozy. Not that creepy feel anymore. Going to the restroom, but the restroom really hasn't gotten that much better. We aren't there for the restroom ambience we're there for the restaurant and it is top-notch. read more

This address was previously the location of 8 Flavors Chinese restaurant. The chef was the authentic Chinese chef previously at the Thai House. The current restaurant is Asian fusion with particularly interesting preparations. If you plan to dine in the restaurant, you will initially order at the counter. After that, there is table service. This is the procedure, regardless of whether you choose a table in the dining room or the bar area. We chose to sit in the dining room, which includes comfortable booths, but if you instead choose to sit in the bar area, you can watch the chef at work. If you are looking for an upscale restaurant with full table service, a large wine list, linen table cloths, and high prices, you will be disappointed. But if you are looking for interesting innovative preparations at moderate prices, you should try Lucky Seb's. In fact we were very surprised by what we found here. The bar offers cocktails, sparkling wines, Sake, and a house red wine (Pinot Noir) and a house white wine (Sauvignon Blanc) by the glass or by the bottle, along with a choice of beers and Japanese whiskeys. We ordered the Smoked Salmon Rangoons appetizer, the Vegetabao Dumplings, and the XO Fried Rice with crispy tofu. The preparations of each were interesting, innovative, and excellent. We also ordered a side of Calabrian Chili peppers. They were very hot peppers. Next time we likely will just order a hot sauce on the side. Next time we will probably try the Bing + Dip appetizer, a soup, perhaps the Cranberry Beet Salad, and the Veg in Chili Oil. This restaurant is an adventure in Asian fusion dining. Wow! This place is fantastic! A fusion between Asian and Indian, eclectically crafting chicken dumplings with masala sauce or smoked briskest in a curry bowl. To say that the unexpected pairing of flavors are delicious is a real understatement. It's off the chain. The chicken Sammy is so juicy. Fries well seasoned. I didn't t try the roti but will try on the next visit. You can also order frozen dumplings to go. They also serve alcohol and have vegetarian options and specials. The spot is cozy - kind of reminds me of a new York eatery. I popped in on a Saturday and it had a steady flow of people. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable. The rice bowls were both flavorful and yummy! This is NOW our favorite place to eat in Lawrence. Avoid the busy MASS St. Area and seek this hidden gem hole in the wall out! Lots of parking out front. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We sat up front near the grill which was fun but next time we'll probably sit elsewhere since it got a little warm. next time we are going to try to Bao as they looked good. What a really cool, creative spot. A bar but also a restaurant, cool but casual. Interesting Asian fusion food with lots of options, I had a really hard time choosing what to order. I went with the brisket red curry rice bowl. Every single ingredient was on point, from tender and soft beef pieces, flavorful curry, a little kick of spice, and yummy crunchy fried onion. It looks like a small bowl but between the rice, meat, and hidden potatoes, I was very fulfilled. I also tried my friends pork dumplings and they were massive and super juicy, the juices squirted everywhere when we bit in. I'd love to come back and try so much more. read more

Before arriving, I liked everything about this place. The name, the simple strip mall location, the little outdoor picnic area, food pics, reviews, everything. That's why I came here the first time. I'm not questioning all the above. Maybe I just got the wrong thing. I would never judge any place off of one visit. But I will say what I did get was really bad. I love pork belly, I like lettuce wraps, so I ordered the pork belly lettuce wraps. It was off the food specials menu (not the regular food menu). I figured it would be stellar, since it was a special menu. I've had a decent amount of pork belly, most of it via Thai or other Asian Fusion-type restaurants. This was really poorly prepared. Most places know you need to either really sear the outside so the inside stays almost creamy and tender, or dice it small (especially for lettuce wraps), or both. This was neither. It was cut like thick-sliced brisket (for lettuce wraps?) and cooked evenly like bad pork chop. It was chewy and inedible. The sticky rice was dry and crumbly. The Bibb lettuce was fresh, but narrow with a thick spine. The kimchi garnish/side was good, so there's that. Luckily I also ordered a cup of the soup of the day - a wonton combination soup. It wasn't bad, so at least I had some sustenance. I would imagine their Pho, Korean fried chicken, and other mainstream dishes are indeed amazing. For that reason, I may try this place again. High quality, tasty, creative fusion dishes at an affordable price. I loved the tikka masala dumplings -- hearty, good texture, and the sauce was great. I tried the Dan Dan noodles from their rotating menu and was pleased with the variety of fresh ingredients and the portion size. The brisket red curry was also a great choice. Our food didn't take long, but the place wasn't too busy either. I think it's enough of a hole in the wall that not everyone knows about it yet. They seem to be in the process of renovating part of the dining room right now, but it didn't affect our great experience. Food was fantastic. Do not sleep on the kimchi fries! Dumplings were spot on and I would try more flavors on their menu. If you like smoked salmon dip then you have to get the salmon crab ragoon. The first time I tried Lucky Sebs they only had their seating where the chefs were cooking. The quality of their food has always been so amazing and I really love their creativity with their dishes. My personal favorite is the Pho Rench. I will say that since they've opened up their seating I feel like the attention to detail has gone down but it's still one of my favorite spots in Lawrence. The inside has become a modern eatery, the vibe is about the equivalent of any bar/eatery. Nothing too fancy but not run down by any means. Won't be me dipping below the 5 star average for Lucky Seb's. Nope, that gig is for someone else. Came after a lengthy time of hearing good things about what's going on here and they are all spot on. What I noticed in both dishes we ordered which included pork and chili dumplings, and their X-Rice I believe it's called, which came with chicken. These folks really know how to use their ginger in a way that is pretty mind blowing. Big flavors, great seasoning, not so over the top you hate yourself an hour after you eat. We should all be forgiven for missing this place. It's out of the way, sort of hidden and tucked in the back end of a crazy old parking lot bordered by two bars that serve food. The rice dish was really to die for. Man, if I was ever wanting carry-out that was beyond what you can normally get, this is what I'd want. And the dumplings are just as good. Almost a meal in themself. Must. Return. Soon. Very highly recommended. Can anyone else's dumplings compare to Lucky Seb's? The dumplings were perfect in flavor balance and packed with filling. So many sauces to try it with. I really enjoyed the Pork Chili dumplings but the curry and classic sauce were also delicious. The Pho'rench dip was so good and hardy. XO fried rice with fried chicken was a huge portion and very flavorful. They were extremely busy but food came out at a reasonable time. It's a cute hole in the wall place with plenty of parking. Decided to order the roti prata (made me miss my time in Singapore) for an appetizer. Both dishes were incredibly delicious. The roti was warm and the accompanying sauce had a nice spice to it. I went here with my child about 7pm on a Wednesday. There are 2 entrances; we went in the wrong one (it may have been marked; it was dark). You order at the bar, they give you a number, and then you take a # to your table of choice. There are VERY strong vibes of "it used to be a bar". There is poor flow, non-cohesive decor, and barely functioning bathrooms. But......the food is amazing AND the prices are downright reasonable. I had the Korean Chicken Sandwich w/ Cranberry Beet Salad as a side. My son had the Kid's Chicken Basket with Fries. We split both a cup of the Wonton Soup and the Japanese Ice Cream Sando. It was all uniquely flavorful. Honestly, it was the best Kid's Chicken Sandwich w/ Fries that I've ever tried. They have VERY good seasoning on their fries. The workers were all very nice as well. I read the reviews and I loved the look of the Restaurant week items, so I headed over today to check it out. We were greeted by friendly staff, ordered the Pho and the birria soup dumplings. The pho was pretty impressive, a Flintstone-esque beef short rib and rich 24 hour broth. The soup dumplings were another story. They weren't supposed to be available for another hour, so I guess they hadn't tested them yet? The dumpling was totally raw, and the filling still frozen in the center. Ok, let's try again. Long story short, they tried 4 times, the dumpling was never cooked, the consomme leaked out of about half. Flavors were spot on, though. After the 2nd order, I told them they needn't make them again on our behalf, but I was happy to help them sort it out if they wanted to try to make more. I know it can be tough to get a new dish right, but I also know it needs to be right before it leaves the kitchen. I'm not sure what happened, but after the 4th set, a man identified to us as the owner came out and told us we didn't know what we were talking about and that the dumplings were as intended. So, I guess you should be aware that his birria dumplings are meant to be eaten raw. I was taken aback by his attitude, as we had been good natured about the dumplings and genuinely thought we were helping identify the issue. The rest of the staff then just vanished until I stuck my head in the back to ask for a refund on the raw dumplings (not my intention until things got aggressive.) I was excited about trying some other menu items, but not if the owner doesn't understand that the food business is a hospitality business. Not a great start to Restaurant Week. I think maybe the guy's watched too much Gordon Ramsay, but missed the parts about attention to quality. read more

It is a nice place with drinks and food. Xo fried rice is good. I wait my food for total 50 minutes. However, it took sooooooo long to get the food. Finally when I got the food (I ordered a medium steak fries) It came like medium rare or less. So they kindly bring it back, which I appreciate it. However, it was another looooooooooong waiting. Btw, after I finish the food. I haven't got a water yet. In summary, a chill place to hangout with friend while having drinks and some food. But it may wait a while for the food. read more

The dumplings sounded and looked SO good, but they didn't live up to the looks and description to. Tasted like black licorice in a dumpling wrapper, that I am very convinced was made in house. A very lowkey casual place that serves really decent dumplings. Highly recommend the pork dumplings - great portion and very juicy. Chicken dumplings on the other hand can be a little dry. Rice bowls are very flavorful but a little salty - I tend to love heavy flavored dishes so was a little surprised how salty the rice bowls were.
