Rest area on I-95 in Grant-Valkaria, FL
    Bruce K.

I've been to a number of rest areas in Florida and elsewhere. This one is nice. So nice that I even took a picture of the restroom because it's so clean! Easy access from I-95 with a smooth entrance and smooth exit. It's all flat here because it's Florida so it's a quick acceleration to get back up to highway speed. Vending machines, pet walking areas, restrooms. Not much shade if you were thinking of getting a nap. [Review 13702 overall, 1022 of 2020, number 1113 in Florida.]

You can also buy liquor here as well. There's plenty of places for the trucks to park which is somewhat separated from the rest of the Flying. J. Gas station and EV charging spots. The bathrooms were very clean and everybody seemed so friendly inside like they're regulars. Also, one thing they do have at this location versus what I've seen at the others is self-checkout. They have about three self-checkout stalls so you can help yourself. Of course, I'm here to charge my EV on my 1000 mile road trip and have found these Pilot Flying J chargers to be very reliable. I like the fact that they are covered in cases of inclement weather. And they're fast!

This Flying J is a great place to stop and get fuel, grab a hot cup of coffee (or cold refreshing…read morebeverage of your choice), or grab a quick bite to eat. The employees are nice and courteous and their bathroom facilities are always clean. It's very accessible and easy to enter - just off I-95 and SR524, with commercial trucks having their own pumping stations on the far side of the facility and non commercial vehicles having their pumps on the near side of the facility. I've always found the fuel prices to be competitive with other stations and they offer 3 grades of unleaded (87, 89, and 93), as well as diesel fuel. It's easy pay at the pumps with a card and there is always washer fluid in buckets with a squeegee for windshield cleaning. For all the reasons listed above, this makes for my favorite location to meet up with my riding buddy when we go on our rides. This makes for a great stop for travelers as well as it's approximately 60 miles further north until Daytona (and about 25 miles south to Melbourne). Stop in and check this place out!

They also have a pizza place but anytime I'm there the line is insanely massive. It was a nice easy time to find parking and when I got inside the place was insanely clean. The bathrooms could've definitely used a better cleaning because it was a little dirty and dingy in there... The food prices ay the Wendy's I stopped at were decent but what stinks is they don't offer any of the combo meals. Everything here is al la carte which makes sense so they can make more money. The staff was friendly (for the most part) and the place was clean. There was an insane amount of spots to sit and eat and everything was clean table wise. This is my go to stop when I'm on the turnpike and it will continue to be!

Most rest stops are usually hit or miss. Fort Pierce was pretty busy for an early weekday morning…read more It had minimal parking. The interior was clean but the Dunkin Donuts had a long line. It wasn't worth being late to my destination to wait in the line. I skipped the coffee and pressed on. Florida's roads are getting packed sooner and staying this way all day. It's almost impossible to see a time of day when there isn't traffic. The infrastructure on the roads isn't supporting the recent population growth. There's been an increase in population plus tourists and the usual snow birds who live in the areas. It's getting noticeably bad. The state's going to have to budget to improve these things for safety reasons. The service stations aren't what they used to be. Fort Pierce was renovated but it still has long wait times. It was not convenient.

One thing that really sets it apart is their curb side pick up where you can order online, pull up and have your snacks, drinks, etc delivered to your car. The 24/7 hot food cafe seems to be a hit. Even on Christmas at midnight they were serving up Mac and cheeses, sandwiches and everything else! Another very automated experience with you ordering on a kiosk and waiting for your number to be called when your food is ready. For me, I was keeping an eye out for all the snacks I haven't seen before. Herrs ketchup and old bay chips were on that list ( ketchup chips yay, old bay nah). They also do self check out -- making it a really fast and fun experience.

Ice was out on fountain drink machine. I took what little ice I could manage to show her and tell her that it was out. She rudely said she would have to charge me for it. If I didn't like it, I could talk to the manager. I did and the manager apologized. I still walked away with a terrible scar in my memory. I never used to shop at Wawa for anything now I get gas and sometimes food. I love that they have fresh pico to put on my breakfast sandwich. On positive side, I also their clean bathroom promise. I have been traveling lately. I have been told that the charge is for the ice not the cup. I have not been charged at times. Not once was I told I'd have to be charged for something that I didn't get! ( and would melt away in no time) this lady did not know that seven hours prior I had just filled up my gas tank. I make the choice to shop there and get gas there which I can just as easily do at RaceTrac. Their bathrooms are pretty clean too . ...and their pizza is pretty good. One bad apple!
