Excellent shelter they pull dogs from kill shelters to save them! Somene posted they were a horrible shelter because they had tried to reach out about several small dogs, but the dogs were either adopted or had already scheduled people coming to look at them. Small dogs go fast at shelters! That does not make the shelter a bad shelter. It means their doing their job. It's common or people to say such things about shelters not knowing what goes on behind the scenes. read more

This is one of the worst shelters I have ever dealt with. I have inquired about 6-8 small dogs and miraculously each one is either meeting with a potential owner or is "going home Tuesday". Had they taken the time to speak to me, references, or my vet they would know that any dog would be blessed to have my home as their forever home. Instead these poor dogs will never know a home with a loving dog mom that will love and care for them the rest of their lives. To me, nothing can be more sad than that. read more

This shelter was not honest about the dog I adopted at all. I tried my hardest, but had to eventually surrender him. I have adopted rescues before so this was not something I would ever think I would do, but the shelter simply withheld information that I would need to understand what the dog would need. I waited until they posted his information to see if anything new was mentioned, and yet it wasn't. I understand that sometimes the dog you bring home isn't always what they are described like simply because their behavior changes. What frustrates me is that I was simply not told information that was known by the shelter. The dog was on anxiety medicine and they didn't let me know that until I asked (three days into the adoption) what I could do to help keep the dog calm as he was constantly panicking with me. They literally did not send me home with medication this dog was using. What takes the cake is I was not informed about his heart worm positive status until the day I adopted him. I had previously asked two different people if he was positive or negative, and they both said negative. That is not something to take lightly, I have had heart worm positive dogs and thats not something you keep from a potential adopter. In the end, while I was upset about having to surrender the dog, I feel worse for sending the dog back there. The dog and I became close during our time together, and it broke my heart to leave him. I wish I could keep him but the dog that was described to me was not the dog I got. I simply am not able to provide him with what he needs. This is not a decision I made spontaneously, I asked various professionals about it and was told the same thing over and over. I wish I didn't have to return the dog to the shelter, as I do not trust them to be honest with future adopters. It honestly feels like they knew I was going to surrender, and just used me for the adoption fee. After being vetted as much as I was, I was hoping for honesty but it is absolutely insane how they just didn't tell me. I am not mad about how many questions they asked, I am not mad that they required many steps to this process. I am mad they left out vital medical information. I wanted to leave this review to let people who are able to adopt a dog that I was honest about what I could do for my dog, what my life style was like, what support I had, who was living in my house. I wasn't given the same honesty back. When I reached out, there was no apology for leaving this information out, just simply sending me the surrender form. It frustrates me to no end. It is a complete shame because I want the animals to be adopted and really hope they are, but I want to warn future adopters of what I experienced. read more

We adopted our dog from them a while ago and couldn't be more pleased, as we felt very supported through the whole process. We had tried to adopt through a variety of other organizations that were just nightmares - unkind staff, horrible processes, tons of paperwork...this place asked good questions, but not too many, kept us updated along the way, and has such an amazing mission, helping women and their pups in really difficult times. Our boys are best friends and we are so thankful to I Heart Dogs for helping us find the perfect dog! We love our furry family member and when the time comes to add to our crew, we will be back! read more

Realize it's volunteers, But can't even leave an email or text a message. Try to adopt the dog out of there 50 mile radius, Would not even consider me, Without speaking to my vet, Or a reference from another rescue. Had they done their homework they would know as well as I that dog Would not have gotten a better home. It's shameful what they're doing. 50 mile radius cuts The rescue of good homes in half. I came forward as one of the owners of my dog Gunner, so did my ex. They told him he had to go through the adoption process, which he shouldn't have had to since Gunner was our dog but he submitted an app and never heard from them. They ignored my messages and adopted Gunner out to another family. They lied to me about trying to find Gunner's family because my ex came in and stated he was the owner. The co-founder stopped responding to my emails after 2 replies trying to figure out why they ignored both us and why they adopted him out when we boh came forward as the owners. I asked a question about this on their Facebook page under one of Gunners posts about adopting him. Asking why they ignored me when I came forward and didn't put any of Gunner's potential adoptions on hold when I came forward, and they immediately blocked me. It looks like they are trying to cover their tracks and control me from speaking out about this. Then they lied to my lawyer saying the never been in contact with either of us. They shouldn't be even allowed to be open when they turn away owners of the animals they have. It's cruel and they should be ashamed of themselves let alone the legal side of it. read more

I went the first time to adopt a dog listed on their website. After filling out papers, sitting and waiting for about a half hour a worker asked if I had ever owned that specific breed. I had a lot of large dog experience but never that exact breed (boerboel, south African mastiff). She went in back and returned a few minutes later flat out denying me the adoption due to never having that breed before. A year later I went back to see another dog listed on their website. We arrived at noon, I brought my 85 year old mother to also see the dogs. After having 4 workers sitting and watching me unload her wheelchair and oxygen from a van and get her to the door it was locked. A fifth worker drove in and said they didn't open for another hour. The original 4 workers just sat there and stared. Needless to say I will never go back and adopted a dog from a different rescue later that day. read more

This is a great rescue! They really care about their dogs and cats. They are strict about who they adopt to because they don't want the animals to end up on the street again. That is how it should be, they should not just adopt out to anyone like other shelters do!! Rescue animals need more care, attention, and knowledge from their owners and I Heart Dogs makes sure that these animals find the right home. Never called us back after filling out all there forms they would not even let us look at the dog! well we have a great German Shepard that is very happy from another shelter that was happy that we cared. To many other good rescues to waste time here so to bad I had to give 1 star to write a review. read more

This place obviously doesn't have people working or doing their job they haven't answered the phone once in over 5 days and no call back the machine keeps saying "FULL" don't you guys have dogs that possibly need rescuing before you decide to put them down oh but you can't answer someone trying to do that lol this is a sad excuse for a dog rescue read more
