We flew to Barcelona with British Airways, flew home with Iberia and American Airlines orchestrated the whole thing. Got to love those codeshare confusions! We arrived at the Barcelona airport and were greeted by Mercedes. She was so pleasant and very informative. We flew from Barcelona to Madrid and the ticket agent was very rude. I don't remember the question now but she had no clue what customer service was and also did not like to speak. Worse, on the plane, everybody's sound system and video were not working. For the whole flight. From Madrid to Miami! We had been in a rush that day and I was not able to eat much for breakfast on the cruise ship we were leaving. I also did not like that food choices at the Barcelona Airport and we raced to get to the departure area in Madrid. So no time for me to eat. We were served two meals on the flight from Miami to Madrid. The first one was truly hideous. I normally pickier with my food but when I am hungry and flying, I don't really have a choice. The supposed meat I was served truly horrific. But the salad was actually fresh and the dressing was really good. The crumb cake was very tasty and fresh. Second meal was breakfasty items that I do not even remember just a few weeks later. It was just okay. I tried the red and white wines and both were definitely decent. But I am not a wine snob. They got us home safely and did not lose our luggage. That and Mercedes were the highlights of my Iberia experience. read more

We made the grievous error of booking a business class flight from Lisbon to Barcelona through Madrid. From the first second we arrived at the airport, Iberia continually reached new lows. They did not post a gate for checkin until less than an hour and forty minutes prior to departure. Then the gates they posted did not have any staff. Now 90 minutes from departure another passenger/victim discovered all 200 people were at the wrong check-in desks. We had to run for 5 minutes and were able to get checked in about an hour before the flight. Security was decent and we arrived at the listed gate with about 50 minutes to spare. The fun was only beginning. While standing in the free for all line, they changed the gate so we all ran to the new one. The gate agents had no clue their gate was our flight, and had no interest in helping anyone find out what was going on. Lo and behold, with less than 30 minutes before the scheduled takeoff, Ms. I don't give a crap announced that the original gate was now correct. So run to that gate and stand in another line. They then changed the flight to almost an hour delay so ciao bambino to our connecting flight to Barcelona. After standing in line for another 30 minutes, we finally boarded. Landing in Madrid after the connection had left, we went to the original Barcelona gate and asked the agent what we should do? We obviously interrupted some very important games of solitaire or tinder romances as she disdainfully waved us away to go to the help desk. So, off we went and found 3 non-functional kiosks and not one sentient being, or at least a breathing Iberia representative. We then had the brilliant idea to go to the Iberia business lounge and see if they could help us. We finally ran into someone who at least showed a modicum of interest and helpfulness and were put on standby for a flight in 3 hours. We asked about our luggage catching up to us and we received the very assuring "maybe". 30 minutes later, we both received economy seats 21 rows apart but we did not care. Flight left on time and arrived on schedule. We checked our Apple ID tags and all of our luggage was still in Madrid so off to find the lost luggage desk. After asking a half dozen people and wandering around for 30 minutes, we found it. Shockingly, there was a line of over 20 people waiting to report lost bags. The story is not over yet as we have been waiting for over 45 minutes and are only marginally closer to the two beleaguered agents. Where this nightmare will end is anyone's guess. We fly all the time and can safely say Iberia is the worst airline known to man or woman. From the complete disorganization and unhelpful attitudes, I am shocked they are not extinct. I guess when government runs an airline, there are no consequences for incompetence and they just keep gorging on the public teat. I would rather hitch hike in a two sizes too small speedo with a transparent bag of $100s around my neck than suffer through another Iberia "flight". Y'all have been warned and can only blame yourselves if you are foolish - no, stupid enough - to ever use Iberia. Caveat Emptor cannot be stressed strongly enough. read more

I booked an XL seat for extra leg room on a trans-Atlantic flight for a extra cost, and they seated me in a regular seat. I have called/submitted claims for a refund 3 times now with no resolution. Sooooo bad. We thought we were buying an Iberia ticket. It ended up being with level. You have to pay for your seats, every bag you bring on or check, and no meal or coffee service everything is an added cost. Do not fly this airline pay the extra money for a decent airline will save money in the long run. Awful!!!! For an international this is horrific and should be illegal. Iberia is bating and switching the service to level a no name horrible airline. You get only a cup of water for free. Soda, coffee, tea all an added cost. The check in desk for Iberia at BCN was decent. The staff there was doing just as much chatting with each other as they were work, but we were 2nd in line, so we still got through relatively quickly. The booking and baggage seemed to go well also, so we have no complaints. We would use them again based on this journey and experience. read more

They do not honor your seats. I paid extra for three seats in exit row four months ahead of travel for a 12 hour flight. When I checked in the flight on line the system gave me three scattered seats all the way in the back of the airplane. The agent on the phone assured me that we would have the seats that we had purchased on row 4, not the case. Agents at the airport are nice until you question why. They have a LEVEL division which the agents don't even know what it is. The agents at the airport say they don't have access to the system and say we have to contact LEVEL and LEVEL blames IBERIA It's ridiculous!! The worst service I've ever experienced as a seasoned traveler. To be honest the "service" was non existent. Not one crew member even acknowledged us during our 12 hour flight. Not even a greeting or goodbye when boarding or leaving. Honestly all the flight attendants looked annoyed to even be there. Bring snacks and drinks because there is absolutely no beverage service and the food offered via pamphlets looked very unappealing.Bathrooms were dirty and gross. Their website and app are also faulty often giving error messages that leave you anxiously wondering if anything has changed. Will never fly with them again EVER. Iberia made changes to our flights w/o notice. Awful situation. SEP 30, 2023, purchased 2 Iberia tickets SFO-BAR direct, MAD-SFO direct. MAR 18, 2024, Iberia emailed, changed us to SFO-MAD-BAR, we accepted. APR 8, day before we left, I did e-check in and found out our flight was canceled w/o any notice. Phoned and got a different flight, same day. APR 9, checked in at San Francisco Airport, confirmed our return flight APR 23. APR 23, went to MAD airport, was told our return flight was canceled, again w/o notice. Had to make many calls to find another flight, MAD-DFW-SFO. Was told they needed 1.5 hours to issue tickets. How ridiculous! The plane would have left. I kept bugging them, got the tickets in 15 minutes. Regulation EU261 requires them to compensate us for the delay. I have filed, but don't knows how much they will give. The phone bill could be high, will file with insurance. read more

THE ABSOLUTE SHITTIEST AND WORST AIRLINE EVER. First, our flight was delayed more than 6 hours. In their website, it states that if the flight is delayed for more than 5 hours, passengers are entitled to a partial or full refund. Thus, I filed a claim. Claim was denied as they deny that the flight was on time and the "original" time we had was not the actual departure time. Therefore, they did not accept the claim. I even screenshot of the emails but they respond with, we are currently unable to receive emails in this email even though they just responded to my previous email. Then, I decided to call LEVEL but I was told that I have to connect with Iberia Airlines. After finally reaching them to ask for a refund for the seats we paid for at LEAST, THEY DROPPED THE CALL! Absolutely shitty service, horrible planes, small, no screen, no wifi, and terrible customer service. I would absolutely never recommend nor fly with both LEVEL and Iberia. read more

This is for LEVEL AIRLINES (which is run by Iberia Airlines): One of the worst airlines on earth when it comes to customer service. Waiting on an international flight and the check-in desk opens 2hrs before the flight?!? ...and the ground crew moves slower than a snail's pace!! ...and when asked for assistance or help; they just brush you off and say "sorry, we didn't make the rules... that's just the website. We don't open until 2hrs before flight..." The stores at the airport Terminal 1 are no better. TERRIBLE customer service...... all the way thru to the restaurants. Even the coffee shop servers act like they all hate their lives! :( Truly, the worst customer service, all around! And one hour before departure, we still didn't have a GATE assignment ?!? Pathetic coordination!! This Terminal 1 airport is beautiful and high-tech BUT their customer service is ZERO and non-existent ....and yes, we are foreigners ....and YES, we spoke Spanish!! Landing safely- best part of experience ! A 2 hour delay on a 1 hour flight, caused a missed connecting flight. Stood in line for 2 hours to get new information on next flight. Out the next day. Voucher for a hotel near the airport- with 3 meal vouchers. Hotel was 1 star and meals were zero stars. If you want a horrible trip, rude service, and ripped off on luggage charges, then this is the airline for you. Prior to going, we checked rules on luggage. First free and second was a nominal fee (hard to decipher) Even more confusing was that it was Iberia but an American Airline plane. So I checked both. When we got to the airport, we found out that the first back was $60 each to Barcelona and 50 Euro to NY. I would be ok with that but second bags, were $200 each. Had I know, I would not have brought the second bag. I had room for the weight in the first but wanted to leave enough weight for souvenirs. But I had no options once I was at the airport. We got smarter on the the way back and made two carry on bags. Well that did not work. They were so unorganized with boarding the flight (we were in group one), but they never called by group. It was a free for all and now no room for our carry ons. The person did not speak English and may I also say announcements on boarding in Madrid (we had a layover) were Spanish only so I could understand only part. I refused to give in to them taking my carry on as I had my work PC, so we made them remove jackets, toys, etc from the overhead compartment to make room. NEVER, EVER, fly this airline. If they are this poor in this compartment, how do I know they are safe. The food was horrible, you had to beg to get wine or water. They came through once and then would close their curtains and disappear for hours. Many got tired of this service, so went back and spoke to them through the curtain and they finally came through again. This is a 7 hour flight and they did not come to take garbage until the end. The best was that their cart hit my husbands arm with the cart, spilling red wine all over his pants, my jacket, etc and they did not say sorry and asked as if they were doing us a favor by giving us napkins. This airline was really horrible. Food was not included in our 8.5 hour flight, it was only included if you wished to pay for it. Water was not even offered to us at all during the long flight. The stewardess did not come by often so passengers trash were just left sitting out. No blankets, headphones, or anything were included, you were forced to buy absolutely everything.
