First, the flight was delayed with no updates. At the posted boarding time, we knew there was an issue because they hadn't even provided a gate. When we finally were told to board, we were yelled for not having our passports ready, even though it was a local flight and we were not told previously to have them out. We were flying business class, and the seats did not even have extra leg room. It was a short flight, but business class amounted to sitting in front and receiving a snack and drink. Then we arrived in Madrid, where after 90 minutes, we started to ask, and an employee told us they were coming and we just have to wait, but we hadn't even given him our flight number yet! The next person we spoke to confirmed they were lost. They told us that we could buy replacement clothing and essentials and we would be reimbursed. Over the course of 3 days, they never contacted us, forcing me to call them repeatedly for updates, only to be told to go buy more clothes. The only instruction we were given was to avoid "luxury items" which we did. In the end, we sent in all our receipts to be told that they were reimbursing less than half our expenses because "only 2 of 4 bags were delayed for 2 days.." When I corrected them that 2 of 2 (all) bags were delayed for 3 days, they said that did not change their reimbursement calculation. I will avoid Iberia at all costs in the future and recommend everyone do the same. read more

I understand that a lot of people only write a review to complain or to voice a bad experience with an airline. I had a good experience with Iberia. Weeks before my actual flight, I got an email saying that I could "upgrade" my itinerary by choosing "priority boarding". I did for like 8 euros and I am glad I did. During boarding I got into Zone 2 and I got lot of overhead space for my roller board bag. No issues there. The crew was friendly, the only thing is you have to pay for anything...water, soda, drink snacks...nothing is complimentary. We left on time and arrived on time. Good experience. read more

They commercialise passengers' health issues. Regulation EC 1107/2006 establishes rights for air passengers and requires airlines to provide necessary accommodations like special seating arrangements or other support for medical conditions. Iberia simply refuses to comply. Instead, they ask passengers to pay for reasonable, and justified accommodations such as a simple aisle seat to be able to stand and mobilise due to health issues. Iberia isn't anything special, but I had a solid flight on it while in Madrid both flying from LHR to Madrid and from Madrid to Edimburgo. The fair was affordable especially given that baggage was included unlike some other budget airlines. One thing is that the seats are really, really tight. Even in business class on a short flight, they don't actually have different seats, they just don't book the seat in between two people. read more

I have more than 3 million miles with American Airlines and was flying co -chair with IBERIA from Dallas to Madrid. I have to state that my prior experiences with IBERIA prior to this incident was positive. When we landed in Madrid the Madrid Aeroporto was absolutely packed as many international flights converged at the same time at customs. As a result, It took us more than 45 minutes to clear custom as virtually hundreds and hundreds of people were ahead of us. We were really tired and nervous as our transfer time was only 1 hour! We then had to walk through several flights of stairs for more than 11/2 miles to take a train that was bringing us to Terminal 4 Gate K 68. The instructions at the airport are confusing and written in small characters. We did not see any agents for transfer help. We were stressed. We asked our son to run ahead to Inform IBERIA at the gate, as we knew that we were running very tight. When we finally arrived at our gate we were exhausted, sweating and obviously super stressed. But IBERIA did not wait for us and closed the gate in front of us. They told us to speak to IBERIA Customer services. Unfortunately, the IBERIA agent did not want to help us and was pushing us to buy a new ticket for around €1400. He told us, you missed the connection transfer you need to work with American Airlines. I called American Airlines and they initially told me that they could not help because IBERIA were the ones who closed the gate. This was an absolute nightmare as no one wanted to help. They then informed me that I would have to purchase three other tickets for more than $2400. I don't give often a one star, as I always try to be fair and give any businesses a second chance. Especially airlines that people love to hammer. But this is by far the worst customer service experience and transfer I ever had. It is also sad that my wife and son needed to go through this. Thanks IBERIA for allowing such a tight- connections on an International transfer flights, where the recommended time is 120 minutes (there is a good reason for that-.The 60 minutes time connection is just not sufficient if the odds are against you. Ultimately, when the AA agent Pamela A. came through; as she heard the IBERIA agent telling us that in order to speak to someone responsible (the boss) we had to go outside the security zone into another location, go to the 2nd floor of their ticket and administration building which was outside of Terminal 4. AA came through as they understood that this was a crazy proposition and another administrative whereabouts. They came through and saved the day. But, for all Yelpers be aware that this is an extremely tight connection transfer. If the airport has convergence of many flights you have to cut the lines and move ahead. Otherwise, like us you will be in a pickle. Normally according to the FAA itinerary was purchased as one ticket (as in: you have only one itinerary and one confirmation number), and the connection time was too short and you miss the second (or third) flight, you can rest easy, no matter what happens. The airline will simply put you onto the next available flight, free of charge. You just need to negotiate and hold the line for 90 minutes...... read more

I would change the way lost and found s handled. You can file a claim on line for lost luggage- that is good, but the communication is awful when you want to check on the status of your claim. Once your luggage is located the airline says they will contact- they don't. We had to call and went to the airport to claim our bags. Didn't trust them to deliver the bags to us. Picking up your luggage is even worse. Waiting at their customer service desk turns into a one hour ordeal and they still can't produce your bag even when you have a claim number. Thankfully we had AirTags in each of the missing bags. Even with AirTags we still had to wait for our luggage for over an hour because someone had to go physically look for it. My advice would be to have carryon only and don't check anything with this airline. Such a flawed system. read more

Pretty standard flight. They had special meals, I tried the non dairy option which was overall pretty healthy. The meals were not bad. Good wine. Best to reconfirm any special meals at check in as they almost misplaced it on the flight (later found). You normally need to book these in advance. Seats of average quality. Bathrooms decent, small. Worst airline ever. Always delayed and employees never give us a reason. We're already waiting in line then last minute they tell us that we need to weigh our luggage. Then we get back in line, wait a bit longer, then tell us we need our boarding passes stamped which takes us out the line again. Why couldn't they do this at check in? This airline sucks. Stay away from this airline. Horrendous service. We submitted reimbursement claims for a 19hr delay and forced downgrade from Business Class to Economy for my wife and daughter, and Premium Economy to Economy for me. Iberia refuses to properly resolve the claims as required by EU261. What's even more incredible is that they issued different resolutions for each of our flight's claims... my wife is being offered cash for the delay and some Avios for the forced downgrade, and my daughter and I are only being offered cash for the delay. How is this possible? This is a horrendous way to do business, and says a lot about the low level of service your airline provides. Our EDI-MAD-MIA flight on 8-18-24 arrived 19+ hours late due to the EDI-MAD leg being late (scheduled maintenance took longer than expected). As a result, we missed MAD-MIA leg, and were forced downgraded from Business class to Economy for my wife & daughter, and from Premium Economy to Economy for me. We were told by desk agent and later by gate agent that there was no way to place us in the same cabin. They also refused to put us on same cabin in another airline. Arriving a day late made us loose our free transportation arrangements, and forced us to hire an Uber from MIA airport to our home. As outlined in EU261 we should have received $600 each for the 19+ hr delay, plus 75% of the price of the ticket for all flights including airline surcharges for the forced downgrade. After waiting over 6 weeks for a response and several calls/emails, we received different proposed resolutions for our claims. All the solutions were significantly less than the 75% required by EU261 for the forced downgrade. As a result, we ended up loosing THOUSANDS of Avios that we paid for a Business and Premium Economy flight, ended up flying economy instead, and arrived 19+ hours late to our destination. These are the kinds of experiences that makes you never want to do business with a company again. read more

We paid $1,700 for a round trip to Madrid, including seats, bags, and exchange options allowing us to make changes. We made a change to the flight from Madrid. Change it to an earlier flight. Iberia was supposed to give us a credit voucher for $87.00 so we could pay fr the seats on the later flight. They did not. Gayle and I flew from ORD to Madrid (Business Class) on a recent trip to Spain. Service was attentive, seats were comfortable, and the dining service was good, but not exceptional. Both Gayle and I thought that the plane looked a little tired and perhaps not up to our experiences on recent international British and United flights. We had the exact same experience as Patrick below with Iberia and the Madrid airport. NEVER fly Iberia airlines and NEVER connect through Madrid or you will miss your connecting flight. As we ran through the airport we met an American that lives in Madrid and he said it is one hour to go from one end of the airport to the next. You have to walk, run, take flights of stairs, and trains. When we got to passport control, there were 10 stations but only 2 agents. We started to panic and the women behind us told us to just go to the front of the line. I was hesitant but finally agreed and she walked us to the front to explain to people. Thankfully we were allowed to cut in line. I asked the agent why there were only 2 with 100 people stuck in line. He snapped that he was working. When I asked why not call his boss my wife grabbed me, she thought I was going to get arrested. But that's not the worst of it. On a flight Paris-Madrid-Miami Iberia airlines lost 3 of our bags. At baggage claim a 3rd party agent working for Iberia told us that the 10 people standing there with no luggage was nothing. The previous flight 40 people had no luggage. While we were standing around an email from Iberia came saying our luggage didn't make the flight and a digital form to fill out. This agent helped us fill out the form and we left. Two days later 2 of our bags were delivered to our house but not the 3rd. So I filled out another complaint form. After another 2 days our 3rd bag was delivered at 11:20pm at night with no phone call. I knew as soon as I was handed the bag that it felt MUCH lighter than we I dropped it off. Sure enough 75% of the contents, expensive Christmas gifts, etc. was missing (stolen). I filed another complaint form with Iberia and received an email from their customer service. I sent them pictures and a scanned copy of $480 in receipts. They sent me 70 Euros. I sent another email with a detailed list of all items that had receipts and the other items which had no receipts (items taken to Paris). Their response was that I needed to contact TSA it is out of their control. NO WHEN YOU GIVE THEM YOUR LUGGAGE, IT IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. I filed a detailed complaint with DOT including the email conversation with Iberia. I've asked for their legal counsel contact information but have not received it yet. read more

If I could give them a zero, I would. Regional flight (Barcelona to Madrid) was late causing me and my travel companions to miss our international flight to USA. Airline was very nonchalant in attitude and took zero responsibility for missing prepaid hotel rooms; rebooking missed flights to home; and the resulting spiraling effects of the very late regional flight. To add insult to injury, luggage was left in Spain an additional week despite 24 hours between international flights missed and assigned. Our seats were downgraded from business class to coach without compensation. When we finally arrived in USA to discover none of our total seven pieces of luggage had been loaded on the plane, Iberia's gate agent only handed us a paper with a QR code to file a claim to track and find our luggage. My travel companions returned home. I unfortunately traveled to a business training with only the clothes I was wearing. I was forced to pay for a new airline ticket. I was forced to rent a vehicle to attend my training. I missed the first of twenty-one days of a very expensive training. At every break from training, I called Iberia daily with no success in obtaining my luggage. On the 13th day after landing in USA, FDX delivered two of my three luggage to the training. My third luggage was delivered to my travel companion. Iberia made no effort to route my missing luggage that contained all my toiletries and underwear (bra, panties) from my travel companion's home to where I was attending training. After two and a half weeks, I had to pay FDX shipping to get my clothes and items needed for my training delivered AFTER my training to my home. Once home, I submitted receipts (scanned paper and electronic) detailing my replacement costs and losses. Iberia demanded that I log into accounts and download the purchase orders again and again. Ultimately, I have suffered over $3,000 due to Iberia's failure to arrive on time. Iberia offered me $280. read more

Iberia Airlines suck. First of the seats are super tiny width wise w/very little leg room. The aisles between the seats are narrow necessitating carrying your carry on as opposed to rolling it down the aisle. We recently went to Madrid & Barcelona. The idea of taking Iberia was appealing because it flies direct from Chicago. That's about where the appeal ended. Every seat assignment we had was near the back of the plane. When we came into Madrid we were seated near the back of the plane. The plane arrived on time, but by the time we disembarked, went through customs & got our luggage almost 1hr later the cab we reserved was gone. We ended up having to pay for this cab & another to get to Madrid. (Great Start to our 25 year Anniversary). So fast forward 9 days later & we're flying from Barcelona to Madrid (once again on Iberia) to catch our connecting flight to Chicago (yeah you guessed it IBERIA once again put us at the back of the plane. Now we're in Madrid for our return flight to Chicago. You guessed it at the back of the plane again. WTF? I went up to the woman at the gate & asked if it would be possible to sit closer the front. You want to hear her answer? Are you ready for this? She told me they couldn't switch because the weight needs to be distributed? So what do they weigh every passenger? I weigh around 220lbs my wife weighs less then 100lbs. What a crock of BS So the lasted add to this Iberia review. We arrived back in Chicago on 12/06/21. Iberia lost my luggage & as of 12/09/21 I still don't have despite numerous attempts to call (Spanish lines). Right now @ 12:41pm we're at O'Hare trying to track down my bag. I so commiserate with those "1 start" ratings by most IBERIA passengers here. I'd give IBERIA a "0 star" if the site allowed it. I am a Spanish citizen and I have flown the airline domestically and transcontinentally innumerable times since 1952, when I was two years old (I am 73). Let me say it in a nutshell: when things go well they go well, but when a special situation occurs where you need customer service assistance, forget it! You get a "no" answer before you've finished formulating the question; and that's only when you are lucky to get through an agent, or a telephone that actually works (IBERIA shows plenty of phone numbers, but some do not event exist, others don't answer and eventually cut you off, yet others do answer but leave you hanging); their websites seem to be designed to confuse you or frustrate you to exhaustion. And in sum, you end up being summarily adjudged at fault... Spaniards are generally congenial and kind and will take the extra mile to help you in need, but as soon as they join IBERIA Customer Service, they seem to get infected by a company attitude of arrogance and "the customer knows nothing, does not deserve our attention, and they are mostly nothing but a nuisance." Two caveats: 1) My comments do not apply to everyone, there are wonderful, helpful IBERIA employees who have not fallen into the "IBERIA Customer Service Arrogance Guidelines"; 2) I am not writing this out of ill-will against IBERIA, my country's flag airline-- Instead, my hope is that some IBERIA executive reads this and stops to think : "This general rating of 1and 1/2 stars is truly 'no good' for the company; we must change our ways by morning!" read more

The counter folks are usually very helpful and kind. That said, the company itself suck. I have had ibaria demand I check my carry on baggage when it met their size and weight restrictions. €40. I have had offers for upgrades that went really upgrades, €40-€70. Iberia have managed to miss loading bags on one connection flights and act like they were doing me a favor when they found them. And iberia has the worst leg room in the industry. If your over 5'10" you will be uncomfortable on their flights. I'm sure this is to force 25% I to paying for upgrades. Good lounges in Madrid but anything on the plane is crap and expensive. I feel dirty everytime I fly Iberia. I now fly any other airline and have to overnight in Madrid. Usually around the same price including a hotel and it makes the long flight more manageable, (American Airlines). read more

You get what you pay for: decent meals, tight leg space, outdated tech/movie software, and an affordable way to get to Spain. They required masks, which I appreciate as a safety precaution in the pandemic. My only beef with them was having "impossible" itineraries with such short layovers that you're doomed to miss your connection. I have nothing positive to say for this airplane. My friends bag was left behind at an Iberia gate and when my friend went to contact the airline via telephone, the agent was extremely rude and short with my friend, offering her no help or advice on how she can retrieve her bag. Furthermore, my friend went to multiple help desks for Iberia at the Madrid airport and none were able to provide her help or refer her to someone else for assistance on the issue. Worst airline!!! I understand that things break but they need to do a better job of handling the situation. Flight was scheduled to depart at 9:15. Plane began to move at 9:40 only to turn around minutes later because there was an issue with the plane. All passengers remained on the completely full airbus. An hour later the plane was turned back on and we were told we were about to leave. Shortly thereafter we were once again told the plane was having issues and they were going to check it again. Another 20 minutes and we were taken off the plane. We were sent to stand in a line as long as the airport corridor we were in. Here they were supposed to give us our a meal voucher. Remember it's a completely full airbus; there were only 3 attendants to hand out the vouchers. Ironically once they give you the meal voucher they send you to the complete opposite end of the airport to eat. By the time we got back to the gate to check in at 3:30 the check in lines were ridiculous. They started boarding at 3:47pm for flight that is supposed to depart at 4:00. Worst experience ever. When they gave me another item to eat I asked how much is it and she said it is included in my plan. I said Thankyou putting away my card. Service was good. This airline is a disaster waiting to happen. We flew from London to Madrid via IB 3167 on October 20th, 2018. The airplane was hot as we were boarding the plane, that should have been the first sign because I have never experienced that before. When the plane was "ready" to depart and got off the gate, all electrical power went off, no lights on whatsoever, entertainment centers off, lights off, and the captain said over the speaker system that it was turned off as mandated by international law. I had never experienced that either. Lastly, the plane got super hot and the plane wasn't moving, the English authorities had the plane towed back to the gate again and directed the Iberia crew to start the engines and test the electrical system before they got off the gate again. It took about 30 minutes for them to test the engines and the electrical system. By the time we took off, the electrical system kept flickering. I have never been religious but I prayed that moment hoping we would make it to Madrid in one piece and alive. Their service was soo cheesy that the tourist class didn't get any free drinks; water or sodas, even though the airline failed to deliver their services. Avoid at all costs. Iberia - please maintain your planes properly. Its embarrassing that you partner with the likes of British Airways. Paying 65 Sterling Pounds for check in luggage and terrible service is not worth it. read more

I'm extremely disappointed by Iberia. They lost 20+ passengers luggage and amongst them were one of my stepmoms luggage, with various things for Christmas. I can imagine how many peoples Christmas has been disturbed by this incident, like ours was disturbed. I really don't understand how a plane can leave with so many pieces of luggage missing, I would expect that they scan the luggage going into the plane, so they don't leave before they have all the pieces for the flight. Everything is there in their database, it wouldn't take more than a few seconds per piece of luggage just to use a hand scanner. Regrettably, as of today, we have yet to receive any further information, leading us to believe that the promised luggage delivery has not occurred as stated. This situation raises concerns about the transparency and reliability of the information provided by Iberia. It calls into question whether there is a lack of honesty or an inability to effectively track and manage luggage. The web page is not user friendly at all. I am fairly computer literate and could not check in for my flight no mater what i did. Airport check-in was OK but if the web page had worked it would not have been necessary. The plane we were on was older so that is all I can base the review on. They may have newer planes, but we got an older one. One outlet and no USB for a 9 hour trip. The food was OK, just basic airline type food. They did offer a choice of two different meals, both for dinner and breakfast. Several different wines were available. Mix drinks, soda and juice were also offered. The first leg from MUC to MAD was morbid, there was no legroom, (Average height WITHOUT the person in front of me reclining) there was nothing you could eat without having to pay. No peanuts, not even one piece of candy or a glass of water. There was also no free WI-FI (Airbus A319-100, leased aircraft). Flying from MAD to GRX was more bearable, possibly because it was operated by Aero Nostrum and not Iberia. There was actually enough legroom to comfortably sit and there were some games that you could play on your phone over the WI-FI (these games were free). Going back home was practically the same, except that I had a six hour layover in MAD, which sucked. I do not recommend. read more

The experience my family and I had flying with Iberia was awful, unprofessional and traumatizing. First time flying with Iberia and first time flying out of the country. What started as a beautiful family trip ended in a violating & stressful nightmare. I'll try to summarize as best as I can. So we were basically lied to by the 5 gate agents on 8/8/24 who after a lot of unnecessary back and forth with a straight face and nasty attitude told us our seats were resold and there was nothing we could do about it, it happens, go to customer service. Iberia was not trying to take responsibility and would not pay for hotel stay until next day when we were put on Standby for 8/9/24 (what are the odds of a family of 4 getting on standby together) Moving forward, we continued to try to make our point to the customer service rep and he ultimately discovered (and apologized) that the reason we were denied boarding was because 9 stand by employees boarded that flight and our seats were taken by them. He strongly suggested that we file our complaint and make sure to add the info he gave us because that is not policy, a paying customer always comes first. The next day we arrived for the standby flight, that turned out to be cancelled due "bad weather" in NY, so it clicked in our minds that those 9 employees knew that the flights may be getting cancelled due to bad weather and found a way to get on regardless of how it would affect the paying customers they were stealing their seats from. We ended up stuck in Madrid Thurs. night thru Sun. noon. Filed complaint through their website, it's been 2months and no resolve. Mind you our luggage was delayed when we finally made it to NY on Sun. didn't arrive until Wed. Didn't want to blame the airline, because I felt it was the wrong doing of the agents at the gate that day, however; now seeing how they don't seem to want to take any accountability, I will never fly Iberia again and warn anyone planning to fly with them. No star would be a better rating. read more

Worst airline I've ever flown. Crew is unbelievably rude. Still making you wear masks. Food awful. Avoid it at all costs. This was the second time I've flown it and both times were awful. Was bumped out of the seats we upgraded to and never received our money back. Second time we were bumped from our AA flight to Iberia. And again it was a nightmare flight. read more

About Level - Iberia. No leg room. 3 toilets for about 280 passengers. No soap in the toilet. Incredibly, unimaginably narrow seats. If you are over 200lb. you cannot fit in there. No Wi-Fi. read more

Horrible airline. $200 one way flight London to Madrid. Plane has no air, no TV and no phone chargers on 2 hr flight. No water unless you pay for it. Only broke wheel on large suitcase causing me to have to drag around bag for 8 days in Spain. Don't use this airline. They should paint their planes yellow and call them school buses as ride on school bus is more comfortable then this airline. read more
