Flew Iberia Airlines from JFK to Madrid. Mediocre at best. Flight attendants were indifferent, never smiled. We were lucky enough to have bulkhead seats in Premium Economy. The remaining seats in Premium E had very little legroom. Walked back to coach and couldn't believe how people sat in this little seats--the least legroom I've ever seen--for 7 hours. I flew on airbus before and it was very nice. On this trip. MY SEAT was very uncomfortable !!! The padding was so worn out I could feel the plastic backing on the chair. Horrible airline. $200 one way flight London to Madrid. Plane has no air, no TV and no phone chargers on 2 hr flight. No water unless you pay for it. Only broke wheel on large suitcase causing me to have to drag around bag for 8 days in Spain. Don't use this airline. We booked and paid for our luggage online. Upon checking in, the Iberia airline agent said we had to pay for luggage because he didn't see payment in the computer. We exclaimed that we have already paid for our luggage and provided our electronic receipt via our smart phone. He declined to accept it and directed us to their customer service desk at the end of the airport, to stand in another line. He also said we could come back and jump the line instead of waiting in line again (I'll come back to this in a minute). Iberia customer service said we did in fact pay and there should not have been any problems. So, off we go back to the check-in desk. I waited near his check-in desk as he ignored all my attempts to gain his attention. Then this lame agent has amnesia and doesn't recall our conversation to come back. After a heated discussion of back and forth he agreed to help us after three more customers. He then tells he still doesn't see payment for the luggage. I very strongly requested his supervisor to come to the booth (all while other customers are looking on in bewilderment as to why we cut the line - he should have explained to the line). All of the sudden he finally sees the payment and agrees to take the luggage without additional charges. It was his fault all along and never once apologized. We wasted an hour that we set aside to get a bite to eat in the airport. Horrible customer experience! read more

I've had to rethink this and I'm not happy about downgrading the flag carrier and major airline hailing from the Iberian peninsula. However, Iberia Aeorlineas de Espana does not even amount to being just o.k. They've transported me within Europe and once, via a One World partnership ticket earned on AA, I was able to cross the pond with them to Europe after being routed into Chicago. They mostly run on time but their service is lacking across the board, be it on long-haul or short-haul flights. They have shelved their 747s and are now fully an Airbus product airline, with the exception of their very small puddle jumpers. I have come to like the Airbus products somewhat, preferring the Airbus 340, (with 4 hefty engines in 600 form and 4 smaller engines in 200 and 300 form) to the Airbus 330. The former is very commanding when it spools up and rotates effortlessly. The latter seem vibrate a little more and use a little more tarmac, but then the 200/300 versions are also older. Nowadays, they are employing many more Airbus 330s for transoceanic service. On that One World mileage ticket I had accrued, I flew on Iberia from Chicago to Madrid and onward to Italy. The four flight attendants, two women and two men, were just plain disinterested ... in anyone and anything. About an hour after takeoff, one flight attendant had to deliver a special meal to a girl traveling with a group. These girls were all clustered in the middle section and had changed seats. Because it took extra effort to locate the girl with the meal request, one flight attendant blew her stack. That's what teenage girls do. They want to hang out with their friends, apply makeup to each other, and be silly. I'm sure this girl didn't think she would cause a flight attendant to lose her cool by moving. A lady nearby turned to me and said, "Boy, she's a crabby one." Also, I am not a picky eater. As long as it's not spicy and doesn't have bones or scales, I will eat. Everything on the meal platter ranged from vapid to awful. Not only that, I had an annoying scarf-y Italian dude occupying the window seat while I had the aisle, and he would also be on my connecting flight. I also watched the other flight attendants be short with just about everyone. On the way back to the U.S., it was better. The cabin attendants in the rear were all women on this flight. I had a window seat this time and a very cool Madrileno going to America for the first time was sitting next to me. On the left aisle, there were two blonde Spanish lady attendants whose physiognomic severity didn't give off good vibes and this was corroborated by how aloof they were with their passengers. On my aisle, we had two brunettes who knew how to smile and liked their jobs. One attendant seemingly anticipated my needs when I needed some water for a med and minor stuff like that. These two were also very genuine in their send offs when our side of the cabin deplaned. This was the exception rather than the rule. On the intra-Europe segments, nothing to eat or drink was included, much like Ryanair, and, again, they generally didn't seem to give a shit. The segments were a little over 2 hours and you had to pay for bottled water. However, a paper cup with water for a med was free. How nice. I would not choose to fly on Iberia if I didn't need to or if it wasn't free. You have other Spain based choices in low-cost Vueling (vuelo + ing, get it?) and Air Europa for European travel and many other European carriers for transatlantic flights. I'd probably take Iberia just to hop over to the Canaries or the Balearics, as I have in the past. Within Spain, AVE high speed rail is now competitive with air travel. It's very simple. Please import the sun-kissed Latin European sensibilities of your country into the cabins of your aircraft and find out why this "I don't give a shit" attitude is so prevalent in your organization. You could very easily move up to being a 3 or 4 star outfit. Get to it. read more

It's a terrible airline when it comes to customer service. I was flying OPO-MAD-BCN and the agent at the check in counter was very unfriendly, there was no smile greeting us and no smile the entire time I was there. My trip was booked on two separate tickets but both traveling on Iberia but for some unexplained reason she could not check my bags through to BCN but there's not enough connection time to recheck my bags in MAD and she told me that the only way was to rebook. My traveling companion had the trip on the same ticket so I gave my bags to them to check as excessive luggage and paid €60 so that I would be traveling without luggage and only had to change planes in MAD. Why didn't she offer that solution to me? I am a seasoned traveler and that helped me to think on my feet but for the less experienced travelers they would have believed her that rebooking was the only solution. I don't know if it's just her or the people in Portugal in general but I find them to be very unfriendly to foreigners especially when you're non-white. read more

I was nervous after reading the 1 & 0 stars reviews for IA. I was about to take a direct 7 hour flight to Madrid from NYC & read all about the bad customer service and cramped seats. After having taken my flight yesterday, I can say this was one of the best flights I have ever taken (and I have flown many times). Zero turbulence! Best customer service from flight attendants to pilot! I was lucky enough to have an empty seat next to me so.i stretched out and slept for a couple to try to get a head start on the jet lag. The flight attendants refilled my coffee/tea many times, nice selection of food (provided on 6 or more hour flights). I have flown twice with Iberia in the past two years, For the first fight, NY to Madrid, I booked a specially priced business class seat. When I got to check in on the day of the flight, I was told the aircraft had been changed and I was downgraded to economy. For the second, flight this summer, Madrid to NY, I booked a premium economy flight. Again, when I checked in, I was given the same story about the aircraft and downgraded again to economy. When this happens, the onus is on the customer to apply for a refund for the difference in price. Iberia do NOTHING! For the first flight it took six month for me to get the refund. For the second flight I am still waiting. They told me I will get a refund of 71 euros for the "change of seat" when actually it was the class of my seat/cabin that was changed. They have made it sound like it was a particular seat assignment I paid for and it was this that was cancelled. Not true! I paid for premium economy and ended up in economy. Whenever Iberia contacts me, it is from a no-reply email address and so there really is no way to follow-up to query what they offer you. It is my belief that they sell these upgraded seats at discount prices, knowing full well that they are not actually available, It is a scam. They likely bet on the fact that most people won't bother to apply for the refund. Also, the amount of the refund is at their discretion and I'm sure it is low-ball. I actually have no idea about the difference in price between the seats I paid for and the seats I actually ended up sitting in. What are customers supposed to do? They are completely at the mercy of the airline. It is terrible. Worse than that though, they don't actually care. I have had noting but complete indifference from the staff at Iberia. I will never fly Iberia again and would advise everyone to avoid them too. read more

I have flown many airlines, and thought I had seen the worst. THIS MIGHT BE THE WORST AIRLINE EVER. I'm in the customer service industry, and theirs is non existent. We were basically told that if we wanted to leave Madrid for home (the U.S.) we had to pay another couple thousand dollars. There was no explanation other than "it's our policy", and no attempt made, what so ever, to help us out and give us an explanation. Id rather pay a couple of bucks more or than flying (long haule) with Iberia again. Well, they are not bad bad, just not my cup of tea. Twice I flew to South Africa and on both occasions they seemed unorganized and we always took off with a delay. The food on board is ok-ish but not worth staying awake for. The planes a old-school, I dont like sharing one movie with the whole lot of other passengers. Like I said, they are not bad bad and they have always brought me safely to the places I wanted to go to, but I prefer another airlines to Iberia. On the other hand I wouldnt mind flying short distances, (if the price is alright) ig. somewhere to Europe. I've used them for short hops around Europe and they were fine, so I thought I'd give them a try on a long haul, so I chose Madrid-Chicago. They used an Airbus 330-300, the plane was in great shape, clean interior, everything in working order. Sitting at the very back of coach, I had a chance to watch the crew service this flight, and they did a great job. It was fully packed, and yet the crew kept moving and taking care of us. Flew it out to Ibiza, Spain and back. The only upside was the flight wasn't full so quite a few lucky passengers, myself included, had rows to ourselves. The leg out to Spain was uneventful, but my return trip was a disaster. Expedia scheduled a connection in Majorca, 20 minutes apart. With no chance of making it, I was at the mercy of one of the rudest and most unhelpful Iberia airline employees ever. The first words out of her mouth were, "It's your fault" and threw my boarding passes on the desk. I pushed them back over to her and with another employee looking over her shoulder, she finally conceded that Expedia screwed up and it would be impossible for anyone to make it across multiple terminals and security in 20 minutes. She still didn't budge on finding another flight for me. So I walked over to the Iberia offices and found someone (Katy didn't get her last name) who was actually very helpful. She got me on the next flight which was 12 hours later and even tried to book a hotel room for me in Madrid but guess who intervened? Yes, Ms.No Name Tag Bitter and Unhelpful. No matter, I booked one myself for the additional 15 hour layover I was to have in Madrid. All that said, the planes are old, the exterior paint faded and dirty which doesn't give confidence when it comes to the maintenance of said planes. The flight attendants tended to be on the surly side as well. In the future, I will avoid Iberia and book each leg of the trip myself instead of relying on Expedia to space the flights properly. read more

Our flight from Sfo to Madrid came in an hour late. Our comfortable 2 hours to make the next flight turned into a anxious attempt to make the next flight. At Madrid they make you go through customs and security again and the in Spain flight gates are a long way from where the flight comes in. We got to the gate before scheduled departure, but they said sorry, nothing can be done. I think they gave our seats away. The staff at Iberia don't seem to care. I would recommend avoiding this airline, esp out of SFO. I have heard they are consistently late. Go with a good airline, not Iberia. read more

This airline is awful. Their web page wouldn't let us check in. Had to do it at airport. Then when we arrived there were 3 people to check in about 100 people in line and 2 of those left their posts to either get coffee or take lunch. One couple standing in front of the counter was there at least 20 minutes after the airline personnel left. They had two bags to check. Finally the siesta employees returned and after 45 minutes we finally got to counter where person advised their systems were down yesterday and no two seats were available anywhere on plane. Passed the buck and told us to ask gate attendant to reseat us but nobody there when we arrived. Asked another guy who requested our passports for the 5th time who did perfunctory review and said he couldn't assist. The one thing they have right is a scanner to enter the security area which barscans your ticket instead of a person paid to look at it. Once thru security and passport control we were met by a 4th wall to get thru of additional security personnel who took half of us off for drug and tnt scanning. I booked a flight from NYC to Madrid for a family vacation (7 total) and couldn't get seat assignments for the trip back. They said it was due to a shared seating system with American Airlines and that I needed to go to the airport to get them. I'm no computer scientist but American Airlines and Iberia have been partners for a long time. Why is it that they still haven't figured this out? The person on the phone remained calm but was absolutely not helpful. My parents are not young and the uncertainty of them not being able to sit together, along with my sister being able to sit with her daughter, is too much. I took this flight to Madrid to Palma. upon arrival and after waiting more than one hour and trying to get their staff to talk to me, I am notified they left my luggage. I asked the Rep for an estimate as to when to expect my luggage and his response was " I don't know, just go to the Hotel and we'll notify you when it arrives, so you can come get it. I explained the hotel was two hours away, and that I needed my belongings for the stay his response was: "well just go buy new clothes for your stay" I decided to stay and wait and after six hours I got my belongings. On the return to the states, it was even WORST! My flight was set out to leave at 6:35am, we Boarded the plane and after two hours of been stationed at the terminal, we finally hear from the crew to inform us we need to evacuate the plane and they will notify us when the flight we leave. We approached the crew seeking for answers and they have nothing to say and they were upset and defensive for been approached! After four hours we finally leave! Most people had connecting flights and they provided no assistance as to what would happen with your connecting flight. When asked about the connecting flights their response was you needed to leave the boarding section of the airport and go and find customer service wherever that was. AWFUL! I had a pretty bad experience with this airline. I was flying from Palma to Florence with a layover in Madrid. The flight from Palma to Madrid was an hour late, which caused us to miss the flight to Florence. The only solution they had was to fly us from Madrid to Düsseldorf, then Düsseldorf to Florence which got us to Florence at 11 pm instead of our original 2:30 pm. They offered to get us a direct flight the next day, but wouldn't pay for the hotel since we had the Düsseldorf option. Not very accommodating or apologetic. Also no leg room on the flights. VERY UNHAPPY with Iberia :( :( :( !!! On 10 September 2016, our luggage was lost for 5 days during our wedding trip to Spain. We spent 3 aggravating days calling #IberiaCustomerCare in search of our bag. We were missing clothes, shoes and other essentials DURING THE WEDDING so we had to spend money we didn't expect to buy them. Finally we were texted that the bag would be delivered to the place we were staying and that we had to be there to receive it. They would not give us a time. For two days in a row we waited ALL DAY and they did not come or even call! Again, we had to spend hours on the phone with Iberia customer care searching for our missing property. We missed another 2 days of wedding events which #RUINED our trip. When we finally got our bag we found that it had been opened and that an expensive pair of men's Gucci shoes had been #Stolen! #Theives Upon our return on 26 September, we called #IberiaCustomerCare and emailed cacequipajes@iberia.es to check on the claim for reimbursement of costs to purchase essential items for the Wedding as well as the Gucci shoes stolen from the front compartment of our bag totaling €1937 EU. We also included long distance charges on our both of our cell phones to Iberia customer care in the amount of $23.60 USD. After several attempts to follow up with #RudeCustomerCare we received a "Lost Luggage Claim" form letter and were instructed to submit photos of baggage claim, passports & police report. This is the worst company I have ever worked with in any business. The customer service never answers and when they do answer they can not assist you in any way. Once they have answered the phone they usually hang up. I have never experienced such low rent behavior in my entire business career. Our bags have been promised to us for three days and they still have no idea where they are in the world. Terrible customer service. Will not be flying Iberia again. After paying for our round trip flight for 8 passengers months in advance and flying into Spain, on the return flight 3 of the passengers in our groups flights were cancelled. We had no idea why and were not informed that we didn't have flights until we showed up at the airports and were told we'd have to pay for a new flight. Yes, we originally paid for a round trip flight, only took one of the flights we paid for, and we're FORCED (yes! forced! We were told we wouldn't be able to go home otherwise) to buy a new ticket to be able to get home (Each one way ticket costing the same price of our entire round trip). So we double paid our flights because they just felt like making us do so. We have never experienced something like this in all our travels. How can an airline just cancel the flight of 3 passengers in a group of 8? They could never explain to us why 3 of the 8 in our group were cancelled. It's been about a month and to this day we are in a battle with Iberia and our credit card company trying to get the money back. read more

It totally turns me off a business when they or their sales folks make mistakes, they make me pay for it, rather rudely, I might add, do absolutely nothing to correct it, even when I prove to them I am right. I chose Iberia on the route from Alicante to Iceland since they promised, through a sales site, that I had a free bag in hold. There was a mistake regarding the bag and I was made pay for it, no matter what. The Iberia people in Alicante are rude and clueless. For EUR 30 they made an angry customer and an enemy for life. We had an A340-500, I like the seating arrangement. My husband and I were able to get the 2 seats by the window. No third seat beside us. The problem was we had a delay... which is normal. Every other airline has had delays... Alaska airlines is notorious for it... however, they at least tell you why we've been delayed. The pilot didn't say anything until after 45 minutes from when we should've taken off. And one minor thing, thing, my tv didn't work. The little girl on the seat across the aisle couldn't recline her seat too. So the plane is a bit old. But the ground attendant was very nice. So staff was friendly. read more

I arrived at the airport an hour and fifteen minutes before the flight departed with no luggage to check. Because Iberia had oversold the flight--which they apparently routinely do--their check-in personnel refused to process over a dozen people that were in line well before the hour hour cut-off for check-in. I have never seen anything like it. The check-in staff and manager were incredibly rude. When customers complained, they threatened to call security on us. I have never experienced such incompetent customer service before. I attempted to book 2 one-way flights from LAX to BCN and they somehow managed to mess both of these up. Overcharged on the flight to BCN and not charge me at all for my flight home. No notice, nothing. When I realized the mistake that Iberia made, I contacted them immediately to try to resolve the issue and was treated by the rudest customer service agent named Tania. I have spent countless hours, emails, facebook messeges, phone calls...I'm on the phone with them as I'm typing this review! I drove from San Diego to LAX to talk to someone face to face to try to get this resolved. I want my money back! A consumer should not have to pay for the mistakes of a company. The pilots are great, smooth flight and landing. The rest is bad,,,, seats are so close that there is no room for legs, I flew to Rome from Los Angeles it was the worst experience I ever had, my knees were hitting the passenger in front of me, all night long!!! I could not move my legs ended up with a pinched nerve that ruined my trip, to top it all of the stewardess were rude and since we were at the back of the plain we got to hear them complain about other passengers and make fun of them, they also ignored us and talked among themselves while serving the food, on the way back it was a little better ( did not have anyone in the seat in front of me so was able to stretch my legs) but again the staff was not friendly at all, looks like they are not happy working there, they should look for another job if that is the case!!! read more

We lived in Spain from 2012-2014 and regularly used iberia in and out of Europe. They are ok. However when using international flying into Madrid and hav a tight connecting time to next flight forget about customer service or lack of any help . I knew flying in I was going to be tight on time ( this flight was not booked by me so I had to go with it) anyhow once I and my 7 year old little gal disembarked we moved swiftly to the passport control line which looked like a cattle line up. I asked employees that my connecting flight was leaving in 1 hour which we have had to also change terminals in this. 3 employees said I would make it and we're not helpful. The 4th one told me to go to Iberia help desk/customer service which I had to loose my place in line to do this only to be told by iberia customer service that she couldn't help me and said that it was wrong for the airport employee to direct me her. She kept shrugging her shoulders telling me she can't help. Then I ran back to immigration line. I was worried that I lost my spot in line and knew if I joined the end of the line I would definitely miss the flight. Lucky a nice family remember us behind them in line and offered for me to hop in with them. Once I made it to the immigration officer I told him my flight was leaving in 20 mins and he didn't waste time, stamped my passports and wished me well to make the flight. We ran to the train then once we arrived to our terminal my 7 year old and I ran all the way to our gate. It was at the time of departure and the gate said closed however the Iberia staff who weren't even nice, abruptly asked where I was going. Once I confirmed she allowed us to board. What a horrible ordeal. My advise if possible is to not book with Iberia, Stay clear of entering Europe via Madrid with 1 hour and 20 min connecting time. I unfortunately did not book my ticket it was done on my behalf so I had no control on this trip. read more
