I stopped in here because my normal nail salon was full and she said to they were available for a no chip. I can tell you I won't be going back. They left my hands in the UV drying light for almost 20 minutes when it's typically 30-90second intervals, done only a couple times. They didn't touch my cuticles, telling me it's dry skin. I get my nails done 1-2 times per months and know dry skin versus cuticles. After my nails were done and I had a chance to look, she didn't paint all the way to my nail bed and they already look grown out! These are supposed to last 2 weeks and I'm not sure I'll be able to wear it for over one week because it will actually grow out. They did everything very quickly, which can be appreciated at times, but there was no care and it was sloppy. read more

I am blown away by Mimi's service at Crystal Nail. She was very helpful in telling me what is better for me- I went in asking for Pink and white. She looked at my nails and said that no chip French would be better since I have a nice nail bed. It's so much cheaper too so you know she's an honest person not trying to get more money out of you, she cares about the quality of her work and she's so talented. I feel very much at home here and her shop is so clean, I didn't have to worry about that at all. Friendly wonderful staff here and I plan to return. read more

I went here BEFORE it was under new management and let me tell you: NIGHT AND DAY. I had the pleasure of having the new owner fill my nails twice and... damn, she really knows her shit. I guess my nails are very difficult for technicians to fill because they are curved a lot. I always end up having lifting on the edges with acrylics - but after she filled my nails NO lifting at all. I even had a freaking $75 acrylic set put on in Boston, and her work beats the hell out of that $75 job. Also, most inexpensive (for the quality) fill I've found in the area yet! I think $15-16 for a fill. The owner has also lowered the prices from the previous management, and gutted the ENTIRE place. Also, frequently runs specials. Everything is new, including these super expensive pedicure chairs. Can't wait to test one of those babies out. TIP: Pay with cash, they'll give you a break since they won't be charged the percentage for a charged transactions from the credit companies. Also, I'd recommend the owner to do your nails if possible. IMO she's the best. I'll have to post a photo of their price chart soon to help everyone out. I have been a loyal no chip customer of Crystal Nails for over a year since moving back to Barrington. I always tip 20% and have my nails done faithfully every 2 weeks. The products used and nail color selections are excellent. In the past my no-chip lasted 2 weeks. Mimi, the owner is a skilled technician. They are a family owned business who all work together to get you out on time. That is where the compliments end! I had my nails done 5 days ago. Within 3 days my nails started to chip. Three to be exact. In addition, one broke off in length. I have been trying to grow them long forever. I called Mimi and told her of my dilemma. She rudely told me to come back to the store. (P.S. I have never complained before!) The minute I got there it was obvious she was angry. She was talking the whole time I was in the salon in her native tongue of Vietnamese. The salon was filled to capacity so, I waited my turn. It was apparent to all customers that she was angry. None of her two other staff members said a word to me while finally fixing my 3 nails. This never happened in prior visits. It was obvious Mimi told them not to speak. I had an opportunity to confront Mimi and ask her why she was so angry. She refused to answer. It was a very uncomfortable situation for the clients around me. I told Mimi that I would NEVER come back again. She said, "Thank You". Concurrently, a customer sitting two seats from me nicely stated that she didn't like the color on the first nail painted to her technician. Mimi had a fit and lectured her loudly so the whole salon heard the conversation. She stated that they don't change colors once any nail color is applied! Finally, she begrudgingly told the technician to change the color. What happened to the customer is always right? She continued lecturing this client on end in English until other customers were rolling their eyes. One other customer in previous reviews stated the she talks negatively about clients after they leave the salon. This is true! I have personally heard this unprofessional behavior each time I am in the salon. Don't go there if you want a quiet, tranquil experience. Be prepared for a lecture on the current condition of your nails the entire time you are in the salon. Mimi states she does this because "she is honest." Went into Crystal Nail today to get a mani / pedi. No one else was in the salon so the owner Mimi, worked on my nails while her husband, Danny, did the pedi, very nice. Her husband did an excellent job on my pedi. Unfortunately she dose not stop talking the entire time. Other people started to come in so she stopped doing my mani to handle other customers. When I was done with my pedi and time to work on my hands I told her my nails were all filed unevenly. She said that was my fault, my nails grow that way. I told her I came in with straight nails. She kept insisting that was the way my nails were and nothing could be done. So she handed me the file for me to fix it myself. Really, I am paying for this? While I filed my nails she sat at another station and told the other lady she wishes she won the lottery so she didn't have to deal with things like this and other complaints, I tried to ignore her. Anyone that knows me knows I am not a complainer and I am pretty easy going. This was ridiculous and I would never go back. I feel bad for her husband. read more

THE WORST. I went on a Monday morning because the usual places I go to were all closed. I had a giftcard for here so i figured i should try it out.. I will never be returning. I went to get an acrylic fill with a french manicure. Right off the bat Mimi started telling me how my nails had defects.. and how the nail salon i went to before did a horrible job. She has no room to talk, as she did an even worse job. She was jerking my hand and arm and rushing through my nails. I asked her continuously to cut down my nails and she never did. The polish job she did was a joke.. looked horrible . The NEXT DAY polish had already chipped off my nails. And here we are five days later and one of them already broke. She is rude. She rushes. I love Mimi! Talented and funny. She always does my acrylics and they look so natural and don't fall off early. Sometimes I get gel nails and they also last a really long time! I've been going there for almost a year. The owner, Mimi is outright bluntly racist and sexist. To everyone. To Caucasian's, African Americans, Latinos, everyone that's not Vietnamese. She has made comments such as "Americans are f***ing lazy" and "All Mexicans are ghetto" even "Blacks don't ever tip" That's not the cherry on top- to end it all, I was there using up a gift certificate from a family member who didn't know I was looking elsewhere for a new salon, and I'm standing there with wet polish and her daughter was there filling in painting nails to help out or whatever. The daughter grabbed my wallet and phone to bring me over to the drying station and I said "oh, wait, aren't you going to do the UV light?" And Mimi goes "No. You're a regular customer. The UV light is for No-Chip polish only" I looked at her speechless and stunned and said "Mimi, I've been coming here for like a year you have always done that for me I have never dried under the regular lightbulb." (To be honest this was the reason I was stalling on looking for a place because a lot of salons WONT do that for you with regular polish but she ALWAYS did and now all of a sudden my money isn't as green as everyone else's?) She decides to YELL at me in front of her entire salon and rolls her eyes at me and says "LISTEN HONEY BECAUSE I WILL TELL YOU AGAIN, YOU ARE A REGULAR CUSTOMER YOU DON'T HAVE NO-CHIP MANICURE SO YOU DON'T GET UV LIGHT. THE UV LIGHT IS ONLY FOR NO-CHIP OR AT THE END OF THE DAY WHEN WE'RE TRYING TO ALL GO HOME" I have gone there at literally every different time possible since last year that that comment is such bullshit and I couldn't believe that she yelled at me like that in front of everybody in there. And her snotty daughter on top of it going "Oh my GOD" rolling her eyes too like screw this place if you want to listen to a woman literally be so negative and bitch about every single customer and be so racist and cruel towards every person then be my guest but I will never show my face in there ever again. Scolding me about where I put my coffee cup & how I needed to put my I pad next to me not once but twice while sitting to get my pedicure. My no chip lasts longer than 2 weeks every time. Everything is very sanitary. I came on a Saturday morning very slow but I felt the pedicure was a bit rushed. The salon is clean and they did a decent job, I found Mimi to be nice and friendly. I went with a male friend who also got a pedi. When it was time to pay, I was charged the posted $25 price however he was charged $30. I questioned the manicurist but she said that's the price for men, I don't understand why his cost more? This is why I will not return. Honestly at first, I was excited that the new owners came in and re-vamped the salon. My first visit was great. I loved the no-chip mani I recieved and felt that the customer service level was above average. Unfortunately the next time in was not the same. I went in to fix a chip, on my no-chip mani, when it appeared later that night. The owner proceeded to scold me on my habits and blame the chip on me. She was unreasonable and frankly made the experience uncomfortable. After telling me "I tell you what you do wrong and you fix your bad habit" I felt disrespected. The tiny chip was, according to her, because i banged my nails on the counter. This was simply false. All I wanted was a quick fix on my nails and instead received a scolding. She made me so uncomfortable and unwelcomed that I refuse to return. Not only did she complain about me coming back, but said she should charge me. I work in the service industry and understand that great customer service is a guarantee for returning customers and Crystal Nail does not have this anymore. She complained that she disliked working with customers with complaints, to me before this visit and I should have known. Today, weeks later my step mom went it and recieved a no-chip mani where she again felt badgered by the owner for stating that her nails looked completely uneven, where again she said it was my step mom's fault and that her nails were like that. Then my step mom proceeded to file her own nails as the owner, Mimi, complained that she wanted to "win the lottery'' in order to get away from customers like this. I just have to say WOW. She obviously thinks that her company is to be bowed down to and doesnt have the decency to treat customers respectfully. She continually talks down about customers behind their backs, as well as to their faces, while she throws her feet up on the nail desk as she waits for your nails to dry. I had an early morning appointment for a pedicure. While I was choosing my color, 2 walk-in customers came in & asked how long of a wait as they had 45 minutes to spare. Two chairs were open. To my surprise, they were taken right away. I was told I would only wait 5 minutes. It turned into 10, and then it was my turn. I asked why I had to wait when I had the appointment and was told that I was free to leave if I didn't like it. At that point, my feet were in the water already, so I stayed. Mimi was the person in charge and truly made me feel like I did something wrong. She would not stop talking. It was her prerogative to take walk-ins as it was an emergency. She ALWAYS takes walk-ins. I was given all kinds of information on her business. how she runs it, and how happy and free-spirited she is. And then, she saw that I had a no-chip pedicure. She then told me that was not the type of pedicure to get as you have to file it off. (I had no idea-received a gift certificate for this service that I used at another salon.) I had to move to a different station to have her file it off. I was never given a minutes peace about having a no chip pedicure and she proceeded to share her opinion about my pedicure to every customer in the place. I just want to go and get a pedicure to relax and get away from daily stress and not walk into it. And on top of that, my traditional pedicure that she took pride in chipped on the 2nd day. Mimi has her following and regular clientele that may find her charming and witty. As a newcomer to her business, I did not find that to be so. As a customer, I had the right to ask why my appointment wasn't honored, and she didn't have the right to insult me as a customer. I won't be back. read more

Her attitude is that she is doing her customers a favor by taking thier business. Just moved here from NJ and I have been going to Crystal Nails every two weeks for about 4 months and have decided that its just not worth the stress. I get chastised every time I go there for petty things like having my drink on the wrong spot on the table; asking to view the nail color palette and being told "no not now" even though the palette is sitting a few feet away from me unused; etc. I have actually made the comment out loud on several visits that "I am always doing something wrong when I come here", If you want a calming salon experience this is not the place for you.
