We hired Melissa to do a family photo shoot with our 3.5 year old and 7 month old. Our 3.5 year old is very slow to warm and doesn't love the camera, so we were hesitant to spend a lot of money on photos that didn't show off his wonderful personality, and I spent quite a bit of time looking for a photographer that I thought would be a good fit. Melissa was great - she followed my son's lead with gentle encouragement, and got him comfortable playing in front of her in no time. I spent a lot of time looking for the right fit for a photographer to capture the precious moments of time that go by so quickly with an infant! After lots of research, I came across Melissa's portfolio from a blog and immediately fell in love with her work. I wanted documentary style, more organic photos as opposed to the super posed, typical straight on photos. Melissa's portfolio showcased the ability to capture organic moments while still looking flattering (unlike the photos my partner would capture for me on his iphone). My partner and I hired Melissa for her in-home newborn photography session. Since this was our first child, I wanted the photos (and then NEEDED the photos after seeing Melissa's images) but I was also unsure of how to plan for being a potentially exhausted and overwhelmed new parent. I questioned if trying to take photos would just add stress I could use to recover and bond with baby. Turns out I was exhausted and overwhelmed and thrilled to have hired just the right photographer for this time of life because Melissa made the entire experience not just easy, but pleasurable. By the time she left our home, I felt like I was saying goodbye to an old friend. She went above and beyond to address our needs and concerns and it always felt authentically in her pleasure to do so. I'm just so impressed.
