First off, five minute wait (with an appointment). The woman was so incredibly sweet and kind. Went super smooth. Got my ID in the mail like less than a week later.

The #1 piece of advice I have is to make an appointment. I've been here twice with an appointment…read moreand it was a 15-20 minute wait both times. They alternate between the appointment and non-appointment line and the non-appointment line was ten times longer in one case. That's around a three hour wait without an appointment! As with other ICBC offices, this one is hit or miss. Sometimes you get lucky and get someone who really wants to be helpful. Sometimes not. I was lucky on my second visit here to be rescued from a "customer is always wrong" employee who thought my number hadn't been called yet when it had been called. The guy kept telling me to wait for my number and sit back down, which would've meant that I lost my number and would have to make another appointment and come back later or wait for three hours as if I didn't have an appointment. Luckily, someone else saw that this person had no idea what they were doing and fit me in, but if they hadn't that would've been a very bad experience. It would be nice if there weren't employees here who do their best to be unhelpful. If this were a privately run shop, I'd give it one or two stars for employing people like that, but if you don't grade on a curve for government run services they'd all rate one or two stars, so I'll give this place three stars when compared to other governmental offices you might interact with.

ICBC RoadsafetyBC Commercial Drivers Medical Examination. After the age of 25 in B.C. anyone with a…read morecommercial drivers license class 1 through 4 will be required to undergo a medical exam and they will mailed a medical form to be completed by a Nurse Practitioner or Medical Doctor. The medical is required every 5 years, 3 years or every year depending on age. I received my medical form mailed to me and it was dated Sept 9, 2025, by the time I received the form in the mail it was around 2 weeks after that. The letter says I have 45 days to have the medical completed and the form faxed or sent in by the doctors office. My question is when does the 45 days start? If I receive the form 2 weeks after it's dated then does that mean I only have 25 days to get the medical exam done? ICBC RoadSafety BC should at least allow 90 days to have the medical completed. The other issue that I have been having problems with in BC is finding a medical doctor that is interested in doing the ICBC drivers medical exam. My current doctor is retiring, the previous doctor that I had my drivers medical exams are no longer taking any more patients. Various clinics that I'm calling I'm told there is long waiting lists, sorry we are not a walk in clinic, come in to fill out forms first then we will make an appt. None of the appts so far are right away. I decided to call Vancouver Coastal Health Richmond BC Urgent Care to see if I can come in to have my drivers medical exam done. I was recently told that they do not fill out any forms. I asked a Nurse Practitioner and was advised that they cannot because they do not know my medical history. That's not the requirement for filling out the drivers medical exam forms, the examination is separate and has nothing to do with history. How does anyone get a drivers medical exam done in BC when it appears that no doctor or practitioner is interested in doing the medical exam and filling out the forms first. This is a requirement by ICBC, maybe because of the doctors shortage they should cancel all medical exam requirements.

I had to ask him to repeat several times, but I did my best to follow his directions carefully. During the test, he strongly criticized me after I slowed down to 20 km/h right after passing a parked vehicle. I did so because there was an upcoming intersection with both left and right turns, and I was waiting for his direction. I also missed one shoulder check when turning right, but aside from that, I believe I performed well. The results paperwork also was not clear . He checked but didn't tell the reason . Camera was taken off by him I haven't had a proof that he was critusm. Though I accept the result of my test, I was very upset by the examiner's behavior afterward. He told me, "It's your fault, not mine," then tore up a copy of the test paper, placed it on the seat, and left the car without further explanation. His words and tone made me feel deeply disrespected and emotionally hurt. I would like to suggest that during road tests, examiners provide feedback or corrections after the test is completed--especially when the mistakes are related to skill, not safety hazards. Harsh criticism during the test can disrupt the applicant's concentration and confidence.

This is for CATSA over at YVR, also known as Vancouver International Airport, and it saddens me…read morethat I have to write this about a place that serves as an international hub for my home city. Earlier this year (Jan 25, 2025) I was at the airport at about 2130 hrs. I in fact had been to the airport a number of times before and after that in a short span since I had a number of friends who were arriving and leaving Vancouver . On that particular evening I was in a lineup at the Wendy's restaurant. I keep situationally aware (more on that later) and saw a uniformed CATSA guard come up from behind me. By this time I was facing forward and toward the counter since I was next in line. The CATSA guard said something out loud which I couldn't make out, so I turned around and looked at him to see if he had a question for me, as I thought he might have been talking to me or trying to get my attention. When I turned around he didn't say anything. I made eye contact in order to try to confirm if he was trying to address me. He looked right back at me but didn't say anything. Most security and law-enforcement professionals would view this as hostile behaviour and a possible pre-attack indicator where a person makes a loud sound or noise to draw attention, and then tries to stare you down. Again, this person kept staring at me without saying anything. I then noticed he had some earbuds in his ears. He continued not saying anything. I do not go around looking for reasons to get into fights, and decided to give him the benefit of the doubt that he might have been talking to someone on his cell phone, which he had in his hand. But again, he did not say anything to me nor did he clue in that his actions came across that he was trying to get my attention. I turned back to look forward at the counter, and as soon as I did that, he again started saying something. I could not make out what he was saying since it was not in English, and in fact neither time was anything he was saying spoken in English, though he said out in a loud voice as if directed at me. Again I wasn't sure if he was trying to get my attention about something so I turned around and made eye contact for several seconds. He again went silent and did not say a word. I then turned to the front and by this time the counter was clear to take my order. I stepped up to the counter but as I started to place my order, the same CATSA idiot started talking in a VERY LOUD voice to the point where the order taker wasn't able to hear what I was saying, even though I was speaking in a clear and affirmative voice. The worker in fact was looking over my shoulder by this time and staring at the CATSA idiot, with a look on her face that even she was offended by the CATSA idiot's behaviour and loud voice. During this whole time the CATSA idiot was not speaking English so for all I know he might have in fact been uttering insults. A few things to consider: - most public sector employers and workplaces have a Respectful Workplace policy which states that English is the only language to be spoken during work hours or in public areas. This is to avoid situations where customers may feel they are being covertly insulted. This is also valuable when de-escalating situations where persons may be experiencing a mental health crisis or may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This is basics 101 of security and law-enforcement training. - it's possible that this person did this without ill intent. If so, his intelligence and situational awareness place him lower than an amoeba, and not fit to work in what could be a dynamic situation such as occurred in 2007 during the Robert Dziekanski incident, or the 2021 shooting at YVR. - it's possible that this person was intentionally trying to harass me and knew exactly what he was doing. Writing this out now, I'm more inclined to say this is the case. - regardless of whether intentional or not, the guard's behaviour is a glowing testament to CATSA's hiring, training, performance management, and leadership. - the guard needs to lose weight, start a physical fitness program that includes both cardio and resistance training, and engage in a mental awareness program that includes engaging his brain and being situationally aware of his surroundings. Then again why do that when you can collect a steady paycheque while putting in substandard effort.
