ICBC RoadsafetyBC Commercial Drivers Medical Examination. After the age of 25 in B.C. anyone with a commercial drivers license class 1 through 4 will be required to undergo a medical exam and they will mailed a medical form to be completed by a Nurse Practitioner or Medical Doctor. The medical is required every 5 years, 3 years or every year depending on age. I received my medical form mailed to me and it was dated Sept 9, 2025, by the time I received the form in the mail it was around 2 weeks after that. The letter says I have 45 days to have the medical completed and the form faxed or sent in by the doctors office. My question is when does the 45 days start? If I receive the form 2 weeks after it's dated then does that mean I only have 25 days to get the medical exam done? ICBC RoadSafety BC should at least allow 90 days to have the medical completed. The other issue that I have been having problems with in BC is finding a medical doctor that is interested in doing the ICBC drivers medical exam. My current doctor is retiring, the previous doctor that I had my drivers medical exams are no longer taking any more patients. Various clinics that I'm calling I'm told there is long waiting lists, sorry we are not a walk in clinic, come in to fill out forms first then we will make an appt. None of the appts so far are right away. I decided to call Vancouver Coastal Health Richmond BC Urgent Care to see if I can come in to have my drivers medical exam done. I was recently told that they do not fill out any forms. I asked a Nurse Practitioner and was advised that they cannot because they do not know my medical history. That's not the requirement for filling out the drivers medical exam forms, the examination is separate and has nothing to do with history. How does anyone get a drivers medical exam done in BC when it appears that no doctor or practitioner is interested in doing the medical exam and filling out the forms first. This is a requirement by ICBC, maybe because of the doctors shortage they should cancel all medical exam requirements. read more

On October 20th, my car was backed into while parked at the food bank, crushing the hood into the engine. After exchanging insurance information, I immedietly drove home and filed a claim with the erroneous assumption that the guilty party would do the same. She did not. I use my car for work, every day, and now that the hood of the car is crushed into the engine, I can not lift it to put in oil or perform basic maintenance. I have called ICBC every day to explain the fact that I am driving on borrowed time, (not being able to put oil in my engine), but they have stated that they "are sorry' but they can't move forward with my claim until they've given the other party 30 days to submit her claim. This is despite the fact that I have already submitted my claim, as well as procured witness testimony corroborating that the other driver (and her F150) backed into my Honda Civic. Now I am doing damage to my car by driving it without oil, on account that ICBC has deemed my car "driveable." I have tried many different ways of explaining to this hydra of beurocracy that just like a car needs gas to drive, so does it too need oil. So far I a have called 6 different agents, on six different days, explaining that I need my car for work, and am causing undue damage to it by leaving the oil and engine unmaintained. All of these talking heads have issued their apologies about my situation, and none of them have been able to suggest an alternative for me. I hope ICBC is willing to pay for the damage I will be doing to my "driveable" vehicle, in addition to the other damage, while they sit on their hands and chirp their sincerest apologies for being a feckless corporation. read more

Surprisingly long wait considering that they allow you to make appointments. I made an appointment online and it still took 45 minutes to get in and out. But at least I had an appointment; the line for people without an appointment looked like it might've been 2-3 hours long. Make an appointment if you're coming here! The bigger problem was that, either the requirements for getting a driver's license are listed incorrectly on the website or the person I talked to didn't understand the requirements. I brought in a set of documents that the website says are acceptable, but the person I talked to said that those documents weren't what I needed and that I needed something else! I'm not sure if I should try again to see if I get someone who agrees with the website or if I'm actually required to do this thing that the website says is optional. Either way, I'm in for at least one more visit to an ICBC office during the covid pandemic where I hang out in a room with thirty to forty other people, almost none of whom will be wearing masks. There seems to be a lack of clarity over what documents are actually required at ICBC. I actually tried calling the ICBC number to see what they had to say. I was recently run off the road by a dump truck changing lanes. I was run into the curb which chewed up both tires on the passenger side. I don't know if any of you out there knows that during covid ICBC decided that tires are no longer covered by our insurance. How absurd I don't know about any of you but I have not seen one car on the road driving without tires. How come our insurance does not cover the whole car? What's next they won't cover front bumpers or back bumpers? I will be changing to private insurance and will only give ICBC exactly what I have to. I really hope private insurance companies can read how unhappy ICBC customers are and really push to get private insurance back. Private insurance is available with basic coverage going to ICBC maybe if we all go that route we can get rid of this monopoly. Having tires on your car is essential to driving a car. You can't go anywhere without them and to not be covered after an accident. Insurance is supposed to be just that Insurance and should cover the entire car that is a no brainer! read more

My recent dealings with ICBC were upsetting to say the least ! They have no regard for customer service, you call them and it takes 2 to 3 hours to finally talk to someone there. For anyone who needs to access one of these driver services offices for things relating to ICBC I have to give this place props... for the location. Located downstairs right across from the Staples in Bentall Centre it's probably the most accessible if you do not have a car, and somehow you are in the downtown area. The Burrard Skytrain station is a block away, and there is metre parking around (it's expensive down here!) but just easy to get to compared to their old location at the law courts. I had to come here to get my driver's license renewed (yup.. it's that time) and once you get down here, there's a ton of signs guiding you to their location. You queue up in the main line up so that the main reception gives you a number.. according to what your purpose is for, and then you wait. While waiting, there's two areas you can sit in, either on the left, or the right and then there are screens and a pinging noise to tell you they have changed the 'Letter' and 'number' to the person they are calling up next. So I came here around 3:45 PM... and it seemed to be packing up, waited a good 15 minutes before my number was called for.. but prior to that they don't just pass up numbers, they will try to call out whoever they were pinging by asking the crowd waiting again.. "going once, going twice...". Compared to other places where I've seen them just whip by, so that's a good thing. I eventually went to window 11 where the lady working identified me, checked over my id's and professionally dealt with my transaction. This year I was finally able to combine my health care card with my driver's license, as one of my cards was finally giving away with all the stress of the years of being in my wallet and cracking in half. $75 was charged.. and they take cash, debit, or credit.. and a temporary form for my license was given. I see they have a customer comment card in front of each window.. so they take customer service at a premium. I saw people smiling after passing their road test, people coming in for BC ID shots, renewals like myself and stuff like getting one of those N's for driving. It may not be a place you frequent but just know that this place is around to service you... and just in case you end up losing your ID... well you will be coming here... and now they let you review the mug-shot you just took that will be showing up on your ID... remember.. no smiling! read more

I somehow misplaced / lost my drivers licence. After searching through various handbags and other exotic locations, it was still missing. I called to ask what ID was needed since I did not have any photo ID ( where the hell is my passport ? ) I was told my Care Card and Birth Certificate were all I needed. I headed down around 11:15 am. I was hoping to beat the office crowd. There was a fairly long line up- but it went fast. I was given a slip with a number and told to wait in the seating area. This area is very clean - like super impressive clean ! There are lots of places to sit, a TV, and a child's play area. I waited 10-15 m . Got up to the window and it was simple and painless. Only 17$ for the replacement. Got a new photo, and they asked if I wanted to upgrade my MDP card with the new one. I did and that was free ( had the option for a separate card with photo or all inclusive on DL ) All in all this is defiantly one I'd go to again. read more

Claim # BK06796-6 Hit and run. I was parked parallel - and a car pulled out from behind me and hit my back left corner of my bumper. My window was down - I immediately honked and yelled at the driver - her window was down too - she looked right at me and stomped her pedal taking off through a red light. I got her plate number and called the VPD. They didn't even talk to her as their was no injuries. ICBC had me take pictures of the scratches on my vehicle and measure the height of the scratches. They contacted the other party - who admitted to being in the area at the time, but denied hitting me. Said nobody yelled or honked at her, she also denied running a red light afterwards. 5'2" chubby woman of middle eastern background (wearing a Hijab) around 28-32yrs old. White Mitsubishi Lancer. ICBC contacted her and had her come in. The scratches matched. Conclusive. but.... The height difference in the scratches was out by 5". SO THEY THREW IT OUT!!! I was told 6" height difference first - but then 5" later. ICBC adjuster told me to go pay a deductible for it. Yup. I appealed immediately. I asked them if they consider physics? I was told no they don't???!!! "What happens when you stomp the brakes of your car - does the front dive? well that's exactly what happens when you stomp the gas. The back dives and the front lifts up." This claim is from Sept 2019. I have had 23 emails with the ICBC adjuster since. Promised multiple times that a manager would be calling me. The estimator is on holidays. NOBODY HAS COME THROUGH. I have been a road star for a long time. This is where our money goes. NOTHING GETS DONE. I think I will contact the news next. I was having a really, really bad day. My kid and I had to get BC drivers' licenses (having moved here recently from Seattle). Nobody likes going to the DMV. It's always a bureaucratic nightmare. So I prepared in advance as much as I could, gathering all the documents I thought I'd need, going over payment types accepted, etc. We were there early and found the office easily (LOVE that this center is right downtown!). Got in the right line and the NICEST lady checked our documents and said we were missing our WA state driving records. She went over how we could order them, then go to Staples next door to print them, then return here and we'd be able to go to the front of the line when we returned. So off to Staples we went. I had a horrible time ordering our drivers' records (problems with internet service, problems with getting the documents emailed to my phone, problems with printing them out, problems with Staples personnel not wanting to assist us, etc., etc). By the time I finally returned to the ICBC office with our records, it looked like I had see battle. I was really near tears, it was really trying as nothing was working out and nothing was going smoothly. I think the lady at the counter, who remembered me from earlier, took pity on me. She spoke to her colleague and said I could be seen right away at the colleague's counter. This second lady was also amazingly helpful and nice. She went over all the BC DL requirements for me and my daughter (my kid has a different kind of DL than mine as she had an learners permit in WA). She worked it out so my kid didn't have to start over entirely here in BC but could transfer her drivers experience to date here, thereby getting some sort of intermediary license ("novice"?). My kid was thrilled she didn't have to start all over from scratch. My kid mentioned that she'd like to drive a Vespa one day, so this lady went over motorcycle requirements with her and gave her a thick book on the motor bike laws and rules and testing required. We had our quickie eye check and took the "lovely" required DL photos and paid the fee and got our paper licenses (the plastic ones were mailed to us soon after). I'm rating this DMV a solid five stars due to the kindness and helpfulness and exemplary service of the two women who helped us out on a day that was very difficult for me. read more

The absolute worst! I own a business and I have drivers that need do their class. They nmeed to do a and pass the written. Now if they don't pass they wait a week, not 24hrs any more and theeeeen you have to wait for a month to do the inspection and road test! None of them have the same standards and fail one for missing this and pass another for the same thing. There needs to be a better way! It's all government run so you cannot make a complaint. The location is nice and convenient for those who work downtown. The staff are friendly, but at the end of the day you can still tell they're unionized government workers who are just waiting for their pensions. They really don't seem to like going out of their way to help you. One thing that I cannot understand for the life of me is why there are always only 2-3 people working when there are 12 kiosks available, as well as a lineup. Seriously? The other thing I can't understand is why they seem to direct everyone to 1-2 staff at the kiosks, while the other 2 at the kiosks just sit there and chat to each other about their dogs. On the phone nobody told me I should bring and in person they just asked me to make a new appointment, and of course, wait for at least one month more. She asked me to hand the Chinese drivers license to her. I told her I do no have it with me. The lady told me ICBC won't issue new drivers license unless I hand the Chinese license to her. My Chinese drivers license has been taken by ICBC 5 years ago when I applied to Canadian drivers license. I told the lady so, then she told me well they do not have the record, and when she asked me if I have another driver's license, I said yes. This location doesn't do driving tests, but you can do anything else. I've been here to replace a stolen license and to just plain renew. I guess those things were standard enough, so I didn't run into any complications like some of the other reviewers have. Since it's in a business district, I expected it to be busy at lunchtime, and went mid-afternoon. No line-up. I've always requested my driver's abstract over the phone and received it by email, so I've never had to line up for it. read more

A bit of bewildering experience and certainly frustrating if you're not a patient person. So for those unclear.... Arrive. Get in line with identification out and ready. Get processed. Sit and wait until your number is displayed. Pretty simple actually. Last night my mail included a notice saying my old fashioned care card is going to be null and void Jan 2018 and because of this I need to attend a licensing location to get one of their new photo included care card identification cards (for free). I know they started including Care cards and drivers licenses however my DL doesn't expire until June 2018. Sigh. Processed with new photo taken my temporary piece of paper representing the new care card which may take up to 60 days to arrive. Fingers crossed. read more

Sure the location is clean enough, new enough, easy to find, etc., but there is not a sole in the building that knows how to use their system that I could find. I have been there four times now since no one is capable of looking up previous driving records. The website says they should be able to do it, but they can't. Each time I get the same glossy look on someone's face and the system must be down story. Typical conversation: ICBC employee "It can't seem to be able to look up your record. Maybe the system is down" Me "When do you expect the system back up? Are you sure it is the system?" ICBC goof "errrr don't know, come back later." Me "What does later mean? ICBC clown "ummm... maybe tomorrow or later today or something" Me "Can you confirm that it is indeed the entire system? i.e. Could I go to another office? ICBC dodo "daaaa I guess you could try" Me "That is not very reassuring. This is consuming a lot of my time. Are you sure there is not another method other than just coming back again?" ICBC dope just stares blankly at me. On my fourth visit I come back to the office with the required documents that were quite easy to pull up from the interwebs thinking I have got this licked. Wait in line smiling with confidence and Pow! How do we know these are your official driving records? We need to have them faxed directly from the other driving office or see the mail that it came in. Sure they look correct, but those are the rules. I offer to help them pull it up from the official government website and pay the fee again to obtain the same paper that I have in my hand. Nope. It has to be a fax, from their broken system, or snail mail! Fuck Sakes! Now I have to waste a stamp, write a letter, pay a fee, and wait several weeks to get the same record that I have in my hand or I could of course try back again some other time to see if their system is up. It's unclear who are the bigger crooks - ICBC, or the BC government which maintains their ridiculous monopoly over a corrupt and inefficient system. I just moved here from Ontario. My car is a 2007 Subaru. I have 20+ years driving experience, at max 10+ years category with no at fault claims. My insurance in Ontario: $690 annually, w/$2m liability, $500 collision and comprehensive. ICBC: $1564. As for the service at this location, well...their website said go here with a pile of documents and my old plates to get BC reg. After a 15 minute lineup, they told me they didn't do registration, go to a broker. At the broker, they told me I actually had to bring my car when registering - despite my having a valid inspection report, and the fact that their staff wouldn't know a spark plug from a dildo. Then on stop three, they told me the rates...wow. Is anything in this province run in a cost-effective or efficient manner? read more

Um I think you guys are SPOILT ROTTEN in this country. If this was back in Ireland I would have been in this place waiting to be seen for hours and probably by some rude civil servant. I came here at lunch time on a Monday to apply for my BC ID. Lunch time on a Monday. Probably the busiest time EVER. I was here in total maybe 30-40 minutes MAX. Considering how many people were also here I think the queue moved very very quickly and the staff were very friendly and efficient. I wasn't waiting very long and then the process of giving all your details and getting your photo taken etc. was very quick. They even show you the photo to make sure you like it. What? If this was back home and you even asked to see the photo they would probably tell you to f*ck off! I was told I would have my ID in 2 weeks. ICBC sent me a letter thanking me for insuring my vehicle and that I need to pay another $1800 in yearly insurance on a common, basic vehicle for the year (this after 9 years of driving without a single at fault incident and with deductibles that guarantee I will never use my funds to fix my car). AS IF I HAVE A CHOICE!! ICBC is a leech. They're pretty and colourful and people accept this corrupt system because of aesthetic. This is a hidden, private tax where most of your money goes expressively toward "crown" corporate profit. I went to this location to get my driving records for a job interview. I was told to go to the second floor. The person at the desk on the second floor asked me to use the phone over there to request the form and bring her back some sort of confirmation. This was the worst experience I have ever received by a rep named Sharon and her "manager" named Kathy Pham. I went to simply renew my drivers license and the rep, Sharon asked me all these questions about my job and what I do for a living. When she found out I was a consultant she asked me if I travel more or less than 6 months of the year. I stated LESS. I am based in Vancouver and my office is right across the street. I don't even travel close to 6 months a year. She decided to HOLD MY DRIVERS LICENSE and not give it back to me for 6 months until they investigate me for being a citizen in BC. I asked her based on what merit she said she just assumes I'm travelling more than 6 months a year. I was utterly shocked, 6 months without a license. I proceed to ask for a manager and she called over this lady named Kathy. I highly doubt she could be a manager of anywhere but if she actually is a manager at ICBC West Georgia I can understand why it's got an 2 star average rating. Sharon proceeds to lie to Kathy that I stated I was going to be away for more than 6 months because she realizes she can't say that she "assumed" differently. I called in to ICBC to complain to the head offices and they managed to allow me to speak with an investigator who looked over a few of my bills and released me license back within a few days stating that I should have never been sent for "investigation". ICBC's recent rate hikes and constant radio ads demonizing private insurance on every station for the last bunch of months(wonder what that has cost), have made me want to share my experience. I moved to Alberta for 5 years, got back a few years ago. I was a road-star here, Alberta didn't recognize that and put me mid-scale. When I got back, after the circus that is out of province, going from mid-scale to max discount here cost me 10$ more a month(that was before these rate hikes). When I did the out of province, they didn't even have a proper form, they made me fill out a transfer form with me as the seller and the buyer. They also made me contact my old insurance places in alberta to prove I didn't get in any accidents. For such a gouging and bloated govt. monopoly they sure are inept and unprofessional. I figured it was about time I got my learners AGAIN and try to make it past the learner stage lol. It's not that I failed it's just that I never tried. Anyway, I went in and was served quickly. All 3 people I dealt with were friendly and positive with me. I even got a few giggles out of them. I was in and out in about 30 minutes. This included waiting in line, being served, taking the learners test and getting my picture taken. I have waited in longer lines for less lol. When you get a notice telling you that your driver's license is going to expire, why don't they tell you where you can get it renewed? Why is the address for the Vancouver location nowhere on the form? Or how about on the front page of ICBC's website? I lost patience and just called their 1-800 number. It doesn't really matter, because once you find the address, it turns out to be in the sub-sub-basement of an obscure shopping plaza. There were some small signs, but it was confusing. On the bright side, I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. But the customer service people are a little on the snappy side... I don't blame them, they have to do the same 4 tasks about 1,000 times a day, and they have to deal with an endless supply of people who didn't bring ID and yet somehow expect to get a license. I don't know, maybe give the employees more frequent breaks or something so that they're happier. Rant off. read more

My dear Vancouverites, you have no clue what a great deal you've got. Maybe I just got lucky, or maybe my request was an easy one to fill, but I don't know why people gave such low ratings for this ICBC. As an international student, I thought it might be handy to apply for a resident BC card so I could take advantage of the rates for locals at the local attractions. And when I arrived at their doors, I literally thought I came to the wrong place: * This ICBC is located inside a mall in the Downtown area, easily accessible by public transit. How convenient is that?? You can get your errands done - shopping, eating, ICBCing - all in one trip! I'm used to having to drive to some 'suburb' to fill my driving licensing needs. * It's modern, clean, brightly lit, and carpeted! I'm used to the run-down buildings that still need seismic retrofitting down at the local California DMV, with linoleum flooring, fluorescent lighting, and bullet-proof windows to protect the dear employees that look and sound like they'd rather be elsewhere. Did I mention that the 'storefront' of this ICBC has floor to ceiling windows? * The staff is friendly. 'Nough said. * And to top it off, there was NO line, people. I repeat: ZERO people waiting in line. Now, keep in mind, that I abided by the rule for visiting government agencies. Thursday is the best day to call or visit as the work week winds down and they're in lower demand. I'd never visit on a Monday because all that pent up energy from the weekend compels people to make calls to all sorts of places that stay closed over the weekend. Needless to say, I couldn't stop raving about about this to my state-side friends. Hope your experience is as good as mine! read more

Fellow Vancouver Yelpers, you might be shocked to see 5 stars for ICBC from me but I am VERY impressed with their service. As someone new to Vancouver, I needed to get myself set up with among other things, a drivers licence. Coming from Chicago, the Secretary of State of Illinois where I got my licence from, is a place everyone would want to avoid. The staff behaved as if us customers are inconveniencing their seemingly boring lives. You, my friend, are lucky to have ICBC because the staff was very friendly and the service was prompt. So friendly that my partner asked if they get any special benefits from the government of BC for working there. Apparently not so but they sure seem to enjoy what they are doing though. They have one of the best government service I have experienced, hands down. Kudos ICBC folks! read more

ICBC and Road Safe BC are a bunch of crooks! If zero or negative stars were possible I would give it. The system is BC is flawed and corrupt; it's set up to take money from people instead of keeping them safe. I had my vehicle impounded and trying to get my vehicle out early as an owner and not the driver was impossible! I had no chance. ICBC and Road Safe BC don't communicate properly; they don't know what the other one is telling people. Updated info isn't passed on through all the channels, so I end up showing ICBC the updated Road Safe BC info and processes. I was told my "needs" couldn't be taken into consideration and I couldn't apply for hardship because I don't use my vehicle to make money. I am a frontline healthcare worker in the middle of a pandemic where my job requires me to have access to my personal vehicle....but my "needs" couldn't be taken into consideration. I couldn't apply for compassionate grounds because that's only for others living with the owner of the vehicle, not the owner themselves. The adjudicator at Road Safe BC spoke in idiocies and in circles. She took no consideration of the evidence I gave or even comprehended what I was saying! Just took my money. No help. They say I can go after the driver for compensation....yeah ok, it'll be easier to get blood from a rock. There is no common sense, no humanity. Maybe from all the money they are siphoning from people, they should train their employers to critically think through their jobs and make decisions based on common sense and actual real life situations. What happened to "we're in this together"? What a joke. read more

This is the nicest experience I have ever had. Came in to change my address and there was only one lady hogging the receptionist asking useless questions on immigration. The man at reception was very polite. Another man saw me standing there and came to ask how he could help me. Once he got my answer, he directed me to his window. Rob at Window 6 was exceptional. He asked how my day was? I was shocked that he took the time, my previous experience was no eye contact and no conversation other than the business ones. Rob was efficient and friendly and I was really impressed with his customer service. read more

I went there on a Wednesday morning at about 9.30am in June 2018. The wait was super short. I barely sat down and was immediately called again. The staff is very friendly, everything went smoothly and fast. I was in and out in under 10 minutes. You rock, guys! read more

ICBC is the worst insurance company with poor customer service. I tried to re insure a vehicle with my olimipic plates that I still have & they said I can't use these plates because they changed the system. They gave no notice of the system changes & they can change anything as long as it benefits them not the customer. Please use private insurance, let them go broke enough of government employees. read more

Took the ferry from Pender Island to Sidney. Had pictures taken for driver's license . Get a letter in the mail a month later saying they lost my photo, and just pop down with all my ID and they'll take another picture. So I spend another $50 on a ferry because there system doesn't store a dr licence photo . Bush league to say the least !!!! read more
