We stopped through Detroit Lakes and decided to spend a night. We walked down to the Resturant and ordered the special. Chicken enchiladas with beans and rice. The beans were dried on the edges and the rice had canned peas. The enchilada sauce looked like pizza sauce. I talked my husband into this place and I know he hates to spend money and waste food. So I did my best to eat a few bites. This sauce was straight tomato paste. I wished for my husband to go to the bathroom so I could hide my food somewhere. He finally said, I can't eat this. It was ok, and I hate to give less than 3 stars, but am fighting it right now. Very slow service, had to get out own menus (after 30 minutes). Condiments and napkin setups needed to be personally retrieved after food was served and getting cold. Food was mediocre at best, and tasted like it had sat under a heat lamp for a good bit. Our waitress had a good personality, and that's probably the thing that pushed it beyond a 1-2 rating. We're from out of town, but one of our party said it was a new menu with significantly higher prices; not sure if that was due to We Fest, or if there regular prices had gone up for the locals after the concert s as well. My family and I had to wait over an hour for a sandwich and nachos. My sister did not get her sandwich because they ran out of it, and they didn't tell us until we had been waiting for 30 minutes already. Other people got their food before us, even though they got here after us. The vibe wasn't too bad, but it seemed very tired. Only half the restaurant was full, yet we didn't get our food until over hour after ordering. The food was bland, and tasted bad. At the end, they tried to charge us for the flat bread sandwich, instead of the chicken tenders my sister had to reorder. When she had to reorder, she was not even offered a menu. The whole experience took an hour and thirty minutes. I would not recommend. read more

Ice House is a solid restaurant inside the Holiday Inn resort hotel on the north side of Detroit Lake. It caters to resort couples and families staying at the hotel and visitors such as our group who want a good dining experience at a reasonable price. Several of our group had the soup and salad bar, which offers the usual salad bar choices. What's noticeable is that the staff constantly replenishes the ingredients so it always looks full and fresh. We also ordered the burger medium-rare and fries, without a bun. The waitperson said the kitchen did not like to prepare burgers that are pink. They must be concerned about the cleanliness of their meat. In keeping with the resort motif is a bar/music room off the main dining area. The music is loud and can be a nuisance for those not interested. Seniors can take their check to the cash register to receive a discount off the bill. read more

Very disappointed. They stop serving breakfast at 11:00, so we arrived at 10:30, thinking we had plenty of time. We walked in to maybe 5 occupied tables and many dirty tables. Maybe they had just gotten through a rush, no biggie. We were ignored by a server bussing a table while we were standing by the sign that said, "please check in with the host to be seated". After a minute I asked the server where we check in and were told to sit wherever we can find a table. We sat at a booth that was set up already, thinking it was ok. She came by and wiped the table down with a too wet towel, leaving me to dry it with my napkin because it was soaked, and removed the coffee cups (which were dirty). She brought us our drinks, delivered some food to another table, then disappeared into the back, never to be seen or heard from again. We waited until 11:15, way past my usual limit of not being served - which I can attribute to my lovely wife, whom is great company and time flows by- before we dropped some money on the table for our drinks and left. We were hoping to find a nice place to have a good breakfast, and it looks like we'll keep looking. read more

Dined here twice during our stay in DL. First night was the all you can eat ribs. Perfection!! Left overly not hungry! Second night was a lovely surf and turf meal and my husband had a steak. Both were very, very good. Entertainment was moved inside that night due to rain. Could have done without, but I suppose when you've had a few, they may sound like the actual Beach Boys or Beatles or Ozzie. Absolutely spectacular service both visits. Great view of Big Detroit Lake. Highly recommend this establishment!! read more

The food is pretty average. My mozzarella sticks were cold and the fries were hard. I ordered the patty melt & it was pretty underwhelming. It was bland and felt like something I would've made at home as a kid if I ran out of hamburger buns. The view was the only thing worth the trip here. If you want a good view I would recommend trying another restaurant around the lake instead of here. read more

While visiting today for Mother's Day we found that the mash potatoes were cold, the prime rib was fat a grizzly and the pork was not ready when we were in line. I could see the manager was recognizing problems. The guy cutting the prime rib could hardly cut it and backed up a big line that moved very slow. To us it appeared they had people to work however, they could of been short staffed in the kitchen. A very unpleasant experience. For 85.00 dollars it didn't meet expectations or even come close. Always nicely surprised by the great drink program here, and of course the awesome ice--even with my pre-existing notion it's good. Great venue for dinner or late night, entertainment varies so check calendar. The kitchen crew can do some great things here, book the kitchen table for a fun group experience. Chef is on site and cooking regularly, grinding out goodness instead of directing from the wings. It's a site that could be on your list for regular rotation. read more

I always have a theory that a restaurant attached to a hotel is never good. This place proved my point. Some food was cold, and there was hardly any flavor. It has a nice view with outdoor seating and has good service. Other than that I wouldn't recommend. Try somewhere else. read more

Food was wonderfull I had the salmon fetachine ,the bread ,dinner rolls my friends had the all you could eat fish on Friday night .they were full on the first plate. The service was good but they had a big wedding party out side and were lacking on staff but still the food and the view was worth the slight wait. And the salad bar was fresh and restocked almost as you took something...they were really on that. Anyway I hope if you get the chance for a good meal this helps you. What a great spot, right on the lake! Reasonably priced and kids eat free with paying adults. We absolutely loved to be able to sit outside and soak up the sun and view for breakfast and dinner. There are lunch specials also, but we took advantage of the hotel's swimming and boating options - and you can only eat and drink so much in a day. Pluses: lots of great drink and food happy hour specials, Monday has 2-fer burgers and select taps. Since there was only one of me and didn't think I could down 2 8 oz burgers, I ordered the fist tacos. You get 3 nice tacos with a side of really nice salsa, with a perfect level of heat. Minuses: My complaint is that, while 2 of the 3 tacos were fantastic, the third contained a piece of fish less than half the length of the tortilla. Not a good bite. I tried it for breakfast and dinner. Both meals were bad. Ordered over easy eggs and part of the whites were still uncooked. Hash browns and toast was burnt. For dinner I had the "special" jerk chicken. Chicken was burnt with some sauce spread over it. Nothing about it was jerk! read more

This place is not good. I've tried. I want to like it, but the food is just not that good and the service isn't great enough to save my opinion. Went here for brunch and left very disappointed. The food that we had the chance to try was good. The buffet line was a disorganized mess. There was no indication of where to being in the line (by the dessert?). This resulted in people cutting in line even though they may not have known. The buffet line was right next to our table so people kept bumping into it. The pork and beef were empty when we went through the line and by the time they were replenished, the line was ridiculous. Serve brunch in a conference room and have more than one line during peak times. read more

Went in for dinner, I was excited about the salad bar. I was seriously disappointed and a bit grossed out. The salad bar was a mess, hardly any salad in the bin, somewhat brown and wilted, the tomatoes were already kinda spoiled and the had some meatballs or what looked like meatballs but the pan was empty and the sauce all over the counter. All the salad condiments were scattered about making it look unsanitary. No one seemed to pay attention to the salad bar until much later. Ordered chicken Oscar, the chicken was grilled nicely but only two thin asparagus spears that were somewhat burnt. My husband enjoyed the salmon with mint cucumber dressing.
