Top reason to ditch this place is the waitress (who owns it or has just worked there a long time) is extremely AWFUL!! CASH ONLY with no notice! I first visited a year ago and my baby fell asleep in the booth. It took forever to get the food and it wasn't busy at all. Waitress made a rude comment about my baby sleeping and due to the food taking so long my baby fell asleep without eating. I saved her food for later. Food was terrible so was trashed later anyway. Went to pay and they only take cash so had to drive to an atm and come back to pay. Today a 2nd try and I brought my cash! Had to wait on my silverware to stir coffee and by the time I waited for her to set other tables and hand me my silverware she refused to allow me to order the early bird special bc her clock said it was 11am! No suggestion of any other option similar to it... just real ugly don't care attitude from her. I told her it would have been on time if she came over to the table so we could order instead of setting tables. She did not care and walked off. I did not care about cost and just wanted those specific food items! We got up and left and will never support this cafe ever again! Recommend others to do the same! Cheese omelet was some American cheese slices over scrambled eggs. French toast wasn't cooked throughly. The coffee had stuff floating in it. They don't tell you they don't except card payment until they bring you the bill and there's no atm on site. I was with my 7 year old son and had to leave him to go get cash. This place was highly recommended by several locals for breakfast. Our server was great - friendly and efficient. The food quality, however, was awful. The Hollandaise sauce on my eggs Benedict was practically congealed, and it was obvious it had been made hours earlier. My friend had chili, ands remarked that the only seasoning apparently was chili powder. The chili was served with corn muffins, which were out in the plate right out of the refrigerator, rock hard and cold. Neither of us finished more than a couple of bites, but our server didn't ask if we were happy (I think she knew just by looking at our plates). I got here right behind an older couple. I sat down. They had their food before I even was greeted. Probably waited 15 minutes to have someone greet me. Had to ask for water and more hot water for my tea. Not sure, other than the large portions, what the appeal is. I had the corned beef hash with two poached eggs and toast. Eggs were overcooked and bread soggy. The CBH tasted like it was out of a can. Hash browns were just ok. AND on the menu there is a statement saying sharing breakfast is not allowed. This early morning I found myself looking for a place to eat some chicken butt nuggets with a slice of pig and a few diced potatoes. They earned 1 star is for how quickly our food was made. If we could give a negative # of stars for the wait staff we would. The blonde waitress was awful! Here are the reasons I say that: 1. My husband asked about a substitution and she very rudely said no then asked him if he had ever worked in customer service. Rude! 2. A few minutes after ordering she very dramatically dropped all of our napkins and loose silverware in the middle of the table without saying a word. 3. Never offered to refill our coffee until she was picking up plates. 4. After my husband paid the bill and we headed for the door she said "Thanks for treating me like crud!". Ok so some of the management policy bothered me. First they would not allow me to pay the upcharge to add the veggies to my burger. Therefore, I couldn't get the special unless i wanted a plain and dry burger on a bun. Yet we could pay extra and get cheese. Then when i went to pay...dont take cards. Where do I start? My wife and I wanted to share a breakfast omelet as we were not that hungry. Nope, No sharing allowed or we charge you double. Really? I have never seen that, EVERY, in my life. Yes, I have seen plate sharing charges and that would have been acceptable. So we ordered an everything omelet and a small stack of pancakes. When taking our order, the waitress asked if we wanted white or wheat toast. My wife said wheat and I ordered another piece of cinnamon white toast. When the food came the cheese on the omelet was a slice of government, processed American cheese (not real cheese) simply placed on top. Icky. I asked for another plate and was told no or we would be charged double. WHAT, I said...We ordered two items. Waitress said that was that. By the way, their definition of cinnamon toast was white bread with cinnamon sprinkled on the top. Charge was 3.49 Another surprise was when the bill came. There was a 3.29 up charge for the wheat toast. Not listed on the menu, nor did the waitress say this when we were given the choice. I then pulled out my credit card to pay the bill and she said, "No honey, we do not accept any cards, you must pay cash? REALLY! Nothing stated on the menu about this, nor was anything posted in the window, nor did she say when we ordered..."By the way we only accept cash." We did not have enough dollars to cover the bill so my wife had to stay behind while I drove a mile to a cash machine to get the money. For a small lake town cafe type place, it was so so. The hot turkey was good, as well as the burgers and fries. My daughter wanted to add bacon to her burger and the charge would have been $4.29. It seemed a bit excessive for slice of bacon given the kids meal was 5.99 to start. Also, the menu has all these rules about not sharing plates at all for some meals, and an extra charge of $2.00 for the privilege of sharing on others. Fine dining can get away with this crap, but not a small town cafe with dirty carpet and no Coke products. Also, this is an area of the country where checks are rarely accepted anywhere. Credit cards are the norm. And cash is occasional. Unfortunately, this only takes cash or check. There is no sign on the door. No indication in the menu. It's not until you get to the cash register that you see a sign prohibiting credit cards. Had I not been with others that had cash to cover, it would have been an embarrassing situation. The "Main Street Restaurant" from a glance appears to be a normal small town cafe that specializes in greasy breakfast food, in all actuality... It's more like a Fascist nation that also happens to serve greasy breakfast food. To begin with, as soon as my wife and I sat down our server started giving us attitude right off the bat. After she left and we started looking at the menu the first thing I noticed was their strict policies that covered seemingly every page: i.e. they ACTUALLY have a "No Sharing Policy" (Yep, exactly what it sounds like), they also have a table time limit, meaning that they reserve the right to force you out if you are there longer than an hour, and they will not do any substitutions what so ever on any of their meal options. I consider myself an easy going person so I brushed off the rude waitress and the restaurant's strict code of conduct, and ordered my food. It didn't take too long for our orders to arrive, so everything was definitely looking up. Overall, the food itself was your typical "Greasy Spoon Diner", and by no means is that a bad thing. The hashbrowns were cooked perfectly and were very buttery. The bacon was semi-burnt, but I like it that way, and the pancakes were well... Pancakes. It wasn't bad food, and it wasn't great food. Like I said earlier... Typical diner breakfast. Once we were done eating, the rude waitress who hadn't made an appearance since she brought out the food came by to give us our bill (even though I didn't even ask for the bill), but I wasn't complaining. I handed her my card, and she pushed it back at me rudely stating that they don't take cards... At all. Never have. How exactly was I supposed to know that? It didn't exactly say that anywhere that I could see. I had no cash on me, so I asked her if they at least had an ATM (like most places that don't take cards have). She rudely replied that they didn't, then went on to say that if she didn't get payment soon that she was going to my pregnant wife to work washing dishes. In the end I had to walk to the nearest ATM which was only a few blocks away, but still a nuisance, and walk back just to get more attitude as I handed her the money. Overall, the Main Street Restaurant has okay food, but the strict and unnecessary rules and unfriendly staff is enough to make me never go back. Perhaps I just got unlucky and had the worst waitress employed at the Main Street, who knows? If you're looking for a good breakfast place in the Lakes Area I'd recommend the 59'er instead. read more

We ate here today and it was fantastic. I had the biscuits and gravy and my husband had french toast. Both of our boys had caramel rolls. My and my husband meal was so great! Very disappointed this morning. We drove into town for breakfast. Every table was occupied except a 6 top. There were four of us in our party. We sat down. We watched a table leave but another party sat down as they entered after us. After sitting for 10 minutes the server comes over and says she wants us to move because they like to save the table for larger parties. She was going to clean off another table. We sat for another 10 minutes and watched her take orders, refill coffee and wait on the table that entered after us. She did not clean the four top table for us. We sat for another few minutes and decided to get up and leave. Just as we got up she said, "I'll try to get to that table and clean it up". In the amount of time she was messing around we could have ordered and probably had our food. We left and went somewhere else. It was incredibly rude for her not to wait on us when it was the only open table and there wasn't anyone waiting for a party of 6. She should have just served us where we were. I'm sure you don't care but you've permanently lost business from our family and it was very avoidable. Next time brush up on customer service skills. I've served off and on over the years and I would never treat people like that. If there is space and no one is waiting, just serve them. We weren't going to sit all day like the coffee clubs do. Great food! I had the tuna salad, salad & it was so good! We came during the lunch rush so it was busy but they did their best to keep it together. I have never been compelled to leave a review of a restaurant before but my experience at this particular establishment was so horrible I felt it was my civic duty to report it. If you're looking for undercooked sausage and raw hash browns this is the place for you! Our server didn't seem at all concerned when we let her know that our sausage was near-raw and after a terrible meal we were informed that they only accept cash or check- not a problem in and of itself (except it is literally 2015) but that's something you probably want to make your customers aware of before they attempt to eat a meal at your place of business. I always prefer supporting small local businesses over chains but this restaurant clearly makes no effort to provide high quality food or service. read more
