Have been coming here since I was a small child. It's a small rink and on weekends is completely packed. When it gets packed the ice gets really rough quick, I feel it be nice during the public skate if it's busy if every hour they could go over the ice and make it more fresh. The ice is also a bit uneven in some areas. If you come right when they open during a week day it's pretty dead and you could get lucky to get the place to yourself or share it with a few people. I guess you can say this place is more fair on "you get what you pay for". The place itself is nice and spacious. I just think all there staff memebers are rude and not very attentive. The times I have gone, the cashiers seems to always be in a bad mood and there no greeting or nothing. Just a quick " How many people", " Pay here". Makes it seems like that don't want anybody in the first place. I have met the owner too and not a man of many words either. Well the price for ice skating is expensive compared to La Kings. Wow!! Let me tell you I've had some really crappy experiences at higher end places lately so I wasn't expecting much. I hosted my son's birthday party here and it was phenomenal. The employees were so sweet and helpful. They offered help to set up and one of the ladies was helping me clean throughout the party. And the front desk two girls were so sweet as well they checked on me multiple times to make sure everything was good. My husband left them a tip but next time I'm in the area I'm going to stop by and bring them some goodies. read more

I've been on and off the ice for 25 years. I can skate okay. But this is not a rink for public skating.... It's a really small rink and the public session has a bunch of kids training with their coaches- so it's not really beginner friendly imo. They should keep coaching / figure skating for separate sessions... but I'm sure they probably couldn't do that because they probably need the business. Layout is confusing at first and the girls at the ticketing were a bit rude. .... One thing I still can't get over is how UNAWARE the coaches and more seasoned skaters were. Which made it all feel more dangerous. Shame on some of these coaches who should know better. I've never seen this phenomenon at another rink. They would be filming their students not looking where they were skating themselves - moving all around the rink instead of practicing a move in one area . Usually the better skaters are looking out for everyone else & steering clear of the beginners if they have to share the ice. There are no skate guards to control traffic or anything so it was kind of a free for all. Like a messy freestyle session but sprinkling in beginner skaters skating in all directions. Won't be coming back to this rink.... The Burbank rink is farther but it's wayyy more worth the money for probably anyone who wants to skate (beginner or seasoned). read more

Went there from Gardena 30 miles, driving 1 hour 15 minutes and was very disappointing, just because of their mistakes Seen the yelp hours Saturday 3:15pm to 6pm We went there at 3:27pm they said they are close at 3:30pm and their Saturdays hour is 12:30pm to 3:30pm. Brought my son here for his first ice skating lessons. It's a $180 for 9 weeks of 30 minute lessons including skates. He's in the younger group which is a smaller class size. He's really enjoying it and is learning quickly. He can now balance without the use of the PVC pipe walkers. So far he's had a different instructor each session with all of them having their own style which seems to be working. This ice rink is an old school no frills ice rink, but the ice seems to be kept up well and ice skates are in good condition. The rest is old but they do work to keep it all clean. This location is not the best location so be careful, as there's a pretty big homeless encampment several blocks away. There's a small parking lot as well as metered street parking. So far safety and parking haven't been an issue. At some point I might take lessons myself. I can imagine summer time will feel great in an ice rink! Visited here in February with my family during break. Not busy at all in the morning/early afternoon. Plenty of parking available in the small lot. Host was accommodating as we tried to find skates to fit the whole family. The ice was the smoothest I've ever skated upon. Family enjoyed the ice and improved our skating skills. Parts of the rink had small puddles, the neighborhood was a bit sketchy, and I ended up breaking my wrist falling. But all those features just added fun details to the memory we made. Staff was very helpful getting me off the ice and providing basic first aid. I'm still in physical therapy but I won't let a bad fall keep me off the ice forever. read more

As a mother of young kid I warn families to be aware of this place. I don't know whether this is the ticketing girl's personal act or from the management, but as a loyal customer I was intentionally embarrassed by the ticketing girl today. She basically came to me saying I was skating without paying for 2 sessions and asked me to pay $30 to her right away. My 5 year old daughter has been taking private lesson here and our coach encouraged her to practice 20 more minutes after each lesson so for that 20 minutes I company her to skate on ice. The last week I saw the ticketing girl while I was skating with my daughter after lesson. We exchanged eyesight but she said nothing. Today while I was with my daughter on ice again after lesson she said I need to pay for 2 public session fees($15 x 2) for myself skating on ice. I took off my skates right away and apologized and explained to her that I wasn't aware that I am not allowed to get on ice with my 5 year old for companying her to practice. Now that I know of this rule so I promised her that I will not do this again but she insisted I pay her $30. I asked her why she didn't let me know about this rule last week when she saw me on ice and she could't answer. Was I set up for this embarrassment? Even my daughter knows that you have to be aware of the rule beforehand to be able to abide. I was planning to hold her 6th birthday party here but now changing mind... read more

There are places in Los Angeles which simply make our lives better. The ice rink in Van Nuys is one of them. Yes, it is a dump. So what. You can feel Linda Fratianne training here for her Olympic medal so long ago. You can still feel the loss of blood from so many hockey games on this tiny ice. If you know who Howard was, you can feel his ghost as the zamboni goes by. The rink is so cosmopolitan that English probably ranks as the third language of choice among the staff and patrons. Iceland is a vital, urgent part of the San Fernando Valley -- it is affordable and kids to this day love it. read more

A great, fun, and easy activity for your kids! We love Iceland Ice Skating Center, the staff, and the days in which our kids stop by. Hasmik is the best, she's very helpful and so kind. Their prices are well-rounded, and we like that we get to support a family business everytime we swing by. We recommend Iceland to all of our friends for their date nights, after school activities, and are even contemplating hosting a birthday party here next year. It was very nice to have this skate rink open after everything was closed for so long. It was our first time ice skating and we didn't know what to expect. The prices weren't bad and everything was respectful about space and bumping into one another. The space was large so it didn't feel crowded or anything like that. I liked the little shack area to get hot chocolate. For some reason it tastes so much better when your in cold "weather". We will be back for sure. read more

We have been bringing our daughter here for the past 4 months, literally everyday to train with the instructors. Iceland ice skating center is by far one of the most focused ice skating rinks in all of cali. All the staff is super nice and the teachers are amazing. Unsurfaced ice! It is $20 a person, it is small area but most importantly the ice is so uneven it is scary.

The facilities were certainly not the latest and the most cutting edge in architecture and technology, but it is convenient, provides complete privacy for your party (your event will be the only one in the space) and the crew was quick and efficient and patient. Your party can have bumper "cars" on the ice or plain ice skating activities. There is an area for snacking and skates rentals are totally available. I didn't have any problems finding parking in the area, but then it was a Saturday afternoon. I just parked on the street in front of the rink. read more

When you drive up to this place, you don't expect much but we were surprised when walking in. It was a full blown ice skating rink! The prices were somewhat expensive especially because my 2 year old didn't get a discount on her ticket. I did appreciate that they had her size in ice skates. Its a descent place. The overall look reminds me of one of those roller skating rinks from the 1980s that is run down, but hey, it does its job...its kind of nostalgic, but it needs a whole new makeover. Everything is ghetto! I am sure a lack of funds will prevent this from happening. Unlucky for us, a group/party of 42 kids were there just when we arrived. The ice skates were in good condition. I have read other reviews about rust and there were small traces, but in reality, who really cares. We also got the hot chocolate deal that came with the Groupon and the hot chocolate was hot and flavorful...no problems there. The only thing that looks normal and nice looking is the small sports shop they have inside their facility. It is what it is! read more

I've never stepped foot in this place but the way they have handled the Coronavirus Pandemic is very disappointing. I paid the $140 deposit for a public combination birthday party (Ice skating and bumper cars) for 10 kids. Suddenly the outbreak of this virus happens and obviously they have to close but they will not give a refund, only a credit. Who knows how long this will last and when is the next time I'll get a check to buy food for myself and my daughter. I think it's incredibly insensitive and just plain bad business practice to refuse to give refunds in such a crisis. read more

The skates here suck I tried on every pair of size 10 men's, and all of them were horrible the blade of the skate was so unsharp, that every single time I would skate with each pair, I fell down and was bleeding from my arm because of this. This place sucks read more

Took my special needs daughter here because she wanted to skate. We skated some and she had fun. But Vanessa a "skating guard" and instructor saw that my daughter was struggling and helped her. She taught my daughter and gave her pointers to give her confidence. So great, caring and patient. So nice. We signed her up for lesions with Vanessa and she is really enjoying learning to skate. read more

Though there are a number of negative reviews, all I have to say is just try going to any of the other local ice rinks - they are all incredibly crowded, they do not Zamboni the ice regularly, and it's easy to get ignored in the other places, while you wait in long lines. I have been to every ice rink in Los Angeles and this one is by far the most pleasant experience, it doesn't have to look like the Taj Mahal it just has to have great ice. Love this place. read more

This place is okay for an outing for kids, but not for figure skaters. There's something about being in a dark, low ceiling, tiny ice rink that doesn't make me feel comfortable. Plus they don't have skate guards skating around to make sure no one gets hurt. It was frustrating to me because the kids had the skating walkere in the middle of the rink. I get it, kids will be kids, but there were so many walkers on the ice that no one was using & the kids kept pushing it in the middle of the rink. It's a pretty run down place. Ice wasn't clean before the newest session & the walls were pretty bad as well. This place really needs to bring in a cleaning crew. 0/10 for figure skaters. 1.5/10 for outing for kids. Oh & it says if you check in public skating is $2. I only got $2 off instead. read more

I love this place, when I was younger I had my birthday there, I also had plenty of ice skating lessons there. Everybody is nice there, absolutely fantastic. If your child is like 6 through 13 then that is a great birthday party right there an ice skating party. I haven't been ice-skating in a very long time, but I can't wait to come back here to Iceland. A month ago, I hadn't set foot in an ice rink in about 15 years, back when I used to play girls hockey. But now my 6 year old is determined to start figure skating, so we've been to a different rink at least once a week and this week, we thought we'd give Iceland a try. What a waste of time and money. I pass no judgement on the location or the way the building looks from the outside - who cares where it's located, really? We paid $24 at 5pm on a Saturday for an adult and a child plus skate rental, and for my husband to sit on a bench and watch. There's a VERY small area with benches so you can put on your skates, and there were discarded shoes and bags everywhere. I knew before we even got on the ice that it was going to be a trainwreck because the rental skates were a mess - frayed laces and rust on one of the blades. I've played in enough rinks that I don't really expect anything above the basics. Iceland may have had some pretty lights, a good sound system and a nice looking shop but it's in very poor condition to say the least. The ceiling looked like it was ready to fall in. I couldn't believe how totally uneven the ice was and how thin it was in places - I could see and feel the bumps of the refrigeration coils under my skates! There were even a couple of cellophane wrappers on the ice that I didn't see anyone pick up. Now, the crowd. I know there was a birthday party when we went (parents, what were you thinking?) but the place was crowded and mostly with older teens. They were clowning around a lot, chasing others in their group with skating frames and throwing them at each other. NOT ONCE did I see them get stopped and told to quit it. Frankly, it was dangerous, and when the skate guard did get on the ice he just gathered up the frames and put them away. What about making the place safe for paying customers? read more

Lost and prevention is laughable with everything thrown into a bin that anyone can get into. Dont bring equipment you wouldnt mind losing because the staff doesnt care where it ends up. Lost a jacket/gloves/scarf after a couple hours leaving the place. Went back to find it was probably stolen. No footage, lost and found, or effort by the staff to help us out. I created an account with Yelp just to steer people away from this cess pit. The ice is awful, completely uneven, apparantly never Zambonied. And yes contrary to suspiciously positive reviews (hmmm I wonder who put those there) you CAN see wood and concrete under the thin ice. The skates are insanely dull. This with the ice made me nearly fall and brain myself at least four times, plus unchaperoned kids speeding around with plastic walkers. The insides of the rental skates were damp and smelly and when i returned them to the rental room they didnt use any spray or anything, just put it right back up where it was before. I guess I got lucky and didn't see any rats but i wouldn't put it past this place, I wonder if the health inspector even knows theres a 'cafe' serving food to human beings here. The owners arent even above commiting plaigarism, as they most certainly illegally painted characters from 'Ice Age' on the wall of their little food court. The staff is very young and frankly seem depressed, but maybe I was just projecting how i felt at that point. One guy who seemed to be a manager or store owner who was extremly rude to not only his employees (right in front of everyone), but also condesending to CUSTOMERS. If thats the kind of person running the place its no wonder its in the condition its in. Oh, I also saw on the way a tiny little paper sign taped to a wall in a corner that said 'Maximum Occupancy 49', and there were definitely more people than that there. I believe it too, there were so many pointless doors and a confusing layout. So bad it is literally a danger to people. read more

Ice skating rinks are never immaculate. Most of them are just plain dumps especially the older rinks. Being a hockey player, I've skated all over the Valley but Van Nuys Iceland takes the cake for being the "dumpiest"! First of all it used to be a meat locker. Years ago there was actually sides of beef hanging from the ceiling where the ice rink is now. This place doesn't even have decent changing rooms. Their definition of changing rooms are two trailers, very similar to those that housed Mr. Ed. The trailers are not even insulated, just cold harsh aluminum that surrounds you from all sides. The ice itself is really bad; you can actually see and feel refrigeration coils underneath your skates. On particularly bad days, you can see the coils! Imagine skating over mini speed bumps. Also the ice was of dark hue due to dirtiness. The ice gets resurfaced when the owner feels like it (which is usually never). One good thing about Iceland is it never gets crowded. I can easily go in and do my thing. Price for stick time is $10 which is not too bad. Parking is very limited and the neighborhood is not so great. There is the Van Nuys Division Police Station right across the street yet somehow that doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. Skate at Iceland at your own risk! read more

Came in the other day for the nighttime skating. To my surprise there was no one there. Which made me kinda sad because I remember going as a kid to very crowded public sessions. I guess the empty rink was a plus since I was there on a date. It just felt weird being the only two people there for over an hour. After the kids working there got our rental skates they pretty much bounced to somewhere in the back never to be seen again until another group came in. Not to call them out or anything because they were nice and I don't really expect them to just sit around at their various posts when there are only two customers. Its just one would think that the people working would stay somewhat visible just in case new customers came in. I mean the new group looked lost and confused since they couldn't find the people working there. As for the actual rink, the ice was very uneven. Its really thin in a few areas and has a few thick patches. As for the reviewer saying that the ice rink doesn't have refrigeration coils, you can see through the ice layer to the concrete pipe layer. Below the ice theres a layer of concrete with embedded pipes that run a freezing cold solution that freezes the ice. I think thats what people were talking about. The ice is so thin in spots that you can see that layer. Overall we did have good time, but hey who doesn't have fun ice skating? I'm still only going to give it a one star though because it really wasn't worth it compared to other rinks. So if you do go you still can have a good time just don't expect a rink any better than "meh." read more

More Tonya Harding than Nancy Kerrigan. It's an OK place. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. The prices are reasonable, and the facilities are OK. Bathrooms are clean. Skates in OK condition. The people working here are nice and somewhat helpful. The teachers are OK. The WiFi works half the time. I would definitely try out other facilities in the area but I would not rule this one out. read more
