My husband and I went to Leavenworth for a quick getaway. First day there we start losing tire pressure and hubby thinks we have a nail in the tire. The air compressor at the Safeway there is in-op. We find Icicle Valley Automotive and stop there to see if we can get some air in the tire. My hubby goes in and after a couple mins comes out and backs up our car to the garage door and I can hear and see a man talking to him saying "I don't like you very much." I'm asking myself did I hear that right, yes I did. Then after he adds 6 lbs of air to our tire he says to my husband, that's going to be $10. Keep in mind most places have air available for FREE and this guy says I'm the only place in town that can help so he's going to charge us. Hubby goes to give him a credit card and he says if you're going to use a card that will cost you $20 not $10. We have cash so we pay the $10 all the while my blood is boiling in the car because of the way he's talking to my husband. I'm thinking what a low class and rude person he is, he doesn't have even know us. We decide there's no way in hell this guy's going to do anything to our car, I'd rather pay to have my car towed than have him touch it. We call Les Schwab in Wenatchee and they say "come in and we'll take care of you." So we drive the 20 miles to Wenatchee and get the flat fixed for FREE!! And yes it was a nail... A benefit of buying tires from them. They were so kind and helpful! Later that evening I tell another local about our experience with Icicle automotive, they said they were so sorry that happened. They also said don't tell people here you are from out of town because some will take advantage of you like that. So that's my tip to you fellow Yelpers, just say that you're new to the area and they may be more helpful and not price gouge you. My hubby has built cars, foreign and domestic, motorcycles, airplanes, helicopters and much more from the ground up so his knowledge is well beyond that of a general mechanic. We just don't travel with an air compressor or many tools. So to the guy at the shop, I don't know who s#!+ in your wheaties but it wasn't us or the other nice people who come to visit your town and invest in supporting your local economy. If you don't like people, get a job that doesn't involve interacting with them, don't live in a tourist town, move to the hills and isolate yourself. read more

Our family was visiting Leavenworth when one of our cars-- an older Xterra-- began sputtering and its engine light came on. My dad suspected a spark plug issue, and I insisted we take it to a mechanic. This one seemed perfect-- not many reviews but all good and very close to town. When the attendant finally emerged from a nearby vehicle and approached us, I began to explain the issue and told him we were visiting from out of town, but before I could finish my thought, he interrupted me and said: "not with his thing, you're not." He seemed annoyed we were there, asked us to pop the trunk, "listened" and, in less than 30 seconds, diagnosed the issue. "It's terminal". Best we could do, he said, is call AAA and tow the thing back home. "It'd cost you $700 if I towed it for you," he said chucking. My dad said he thought it might be a spark plug, but this so-called mechanic had made up his mind-- the engine was done-for and the only way was to spend $7K on a new motor. Minutes later, we were on our way to another local mechanic who, upon hearing us out (and the sound of the car), agreed it was very likely a spark plug but was unfortunately too busy to help us at the time. With no other options left, we decided the only course of action would be to change the spark plugs ourselves. We both do a little work on our cars but since we are on vacation, did not have any tools with us. Fortunately, the local auto parts store had everything we needed, and less than a couple of hundred dollars later (and 6 new spark plugs), the car is back to normal. If you are looking for a psychic automotive medium, definitely go to Icicle Valley Automotive. If you need a real mechanic, go somewhere else. read more

Gave me a little Christmas miracle. I decided to take my girlfriend up to visit Leavenworth during the holiday season and, threw the pass, a large chunk of snow thrown on the windshield caused the driver side blade to stop working. It was sleeting and driving home would have been extremely dangerous without it. Not merely proficient and honest, but also good. Read on, and I'll explain. As with several other reviewers come before me, I encountered automotive difficulties. By "difficulties", I mean that the German car which owns me had informed me in a terse yet condescending manner that my tire had low pressure, and I should only drive in run-flat mode for [n] Kilometers. It translated this to Mikes in what I swear was a patently exasperated manner. Following this ominous caution, it became mute in the subject. That set off my warning bells about as loudly as an "Oh... nothing. Really" response from any of my former better halves. Which is to say, "deafeningly". So I tooled Das Angry Auto into Tim's shop, at the northeast end of Leavenworth. I expected quite a wait, given the number of vehicles present, despite an impressively efficient constant flurry of activity. I was wrong. Tim was on the phone with a customer when I arrived. He nodded to me, but continued with the call until he reached a holding spot. I described briefly my predicament, and admitted I was in way over my head with any car capable of shaming my ignorance with a sneeringly perfect politeness. He nodded once and said he's have me fixed up right after the call. While waiting just outside his office, and handing my key to one of the crew, I confess to overhearing a bit of the conversation. He turned away a prospective client, admitting not only that they didn't have the specific tools and expertise needed (for what sounded like an exotic), but recommended a competitor who he knew could handle the job and would do it well. We then talked a bit about the car, and about an unfortunate tussle I've been having with the "Big C", while one of his team rolled zee Beemer into zee shop, raised it, removed a screw which had sought safety among my automotive overlord's tire treads, and wished me a good day. I mean... this was done in the space of time we were speaking. I suggested we settle-up, and he shook my hand instead, saying, "Be well." Now, folks... when you encounter proficiency, efficiency, integrity and plain goodness in one place, mark it on your map. Those places are few, and the spaces between them all too often full of ugly. My husband and have been spending a few days in Leavenworth. Yesterday after visiting the 59er Diner for lunch we headed back to town. Five or so miles down the road the engine light came on. We hit a large rock on our way into Leavenworth. The car was making a loud vibration and we weren't sure what was going on. We called the guys at Icicle Valley Automotive and they were very friendly. They had us come in to check it out and treated us like we were their top priority. They put it up on the lift and told us that there was no major damage, and that we were really lucky. They took off a broken cover piece and cut and bent another piece that was causing the vibration. One of the guys was having trouble bending the metal at one point and the manager (?) said "Can't isn't in our vocabulary." He was determined that he could and would help us out and get us on our way. He calmed our worries and told us that we were good to go for now and could get the broken piece replaced when we get back home, there were no safety issues. Our car broke down going over the Highway 2 Pass, and the state trooper who stopped recommended we go to Icicle Valley. It became very clear why - they spent all morning trying to figure out what was wrong with our car right after we dropped it off, came to pick us up when they were done, and didn't charge us for their time even though they had been working on it for hours. We took the family to Leavenworth for Thanksgiving, and found on the way from Seatle that our chains did not fit properly on one side and it banged the hell out of the front fender. We bought new chains for our car, and found that these new chains also do not fit properly on one side. As a result, we got stuck in the snow for 2+ hours waiting for a tow. I looked and found that the idiots at the tire place back in Seattle had put one incorrectly sized tire on my car! A few moths ago, my wife and I took a trip to Leavenworth. On our way out of town, our radiator split. We called up a few shops and no one had the part on hand, however, Tim drove out to Cashmere to pick up the part. It was fixed within a couple hours and he was able to come in under the estimate. Last Sunday my wife and I stopped in Leavenworth on the way home from Eastern Washington. When I attempted to start my pickup, it wouldn't turn over. After popping the hood I noticed the battery cables looked corroded and I didn't have any tools with me to clean them up. A local man gave us a jump start and suggested I go to Icicle Automotive just up the street. We drove there, I explained what I needed, and a mechanic quickly pulled the cables and cleaned them along with the battery posts. I then went to pay the owner and he wouldn't take any money. He said, "No worries, It only took a few minutes" I didn't think these types of businesses still existed! I was on a road trip through the PNW and was plagued with tire problems. I was getting ready to leave Leavenworth one morning and found my tire was flat again! I found Icicle Valley Automotive on Yelp, saw the good reviews, and headed over without even calling first. Chuck helped me right away. He got his guy to stop what he doing to check out my tire. They checked it thoroughly, looking for a puncture or leak. They even did a dunk test, but could find nothing. In the end, they filled up my tires and sent me on my way completely free of charge. A few weeks ago I was in town visiting family and friends. I was leaving my grandparent's house for a playdate when I heard this horrific, nails on a chalkboard sound coming from the front drivers side wheel. I called the dealership and they said to drive to Les Schwab in Wenatchee and that most likely it was a rock stuck somewhere in there. Turns out my muffler needed some welding done which was above the scope of this garage but he applied a temporary fix to my car so I could get home. He refused to let me pay him anything. Chuck at Icicle Creek Automotive came to our rescue and went above and beyond to fix our 1997 Toyota Landcruiser during our Leavenworth vacation. Going over Snoqualmie Pass from Seattle ran into an engine problem, able to get to our rental house on Blewett Pass but very concerning with 4 kids and a car loaded with gear in snowy winter conditions Chuck fit us into his schedule right away and diagnosed a piston misfire on one cylinder, after trial drive brought light back on he recommended would need tune up and possible spark plug replace. He accomplished very quickly and reasonably at $150 and the vacation was saved! Rest of trip driving to ski resorts and over passes car was trouble free.
