Terrible. Moldy smelling room, thermostat not functioning properly, no exhaust fan for extremely damp conditions, coffee maker didn't work properly, no screen on the second floor balcony (safety hazard), beds and pillows extremely uncomfortable. Rude bartenders. My uncle had made a reservation on the first floor and when we arrived they didn't have any record of the reservation. Gave him a third floor instead. To make it worse, the moldy/unsanitary/poorly ventilated conditions of our room made someone in my family get very ill, to the point where we had to end our vacation days early. Manager and CEO wouldn't even give us the time of day afterwards... extremely rude. They might as well have laughed in our faces. Awful customer service and I'm shocked by their lack of professionalism and bad attitude towards an important matter such as hygiene and safety. What could've been a very nice vacation ended up being traumatizing and cut short due to this hotel. I am ashamed that we stayed here and embarrassed that we blessed the owner with any of our hard earned money. read more

We recently stayed at ICONA for a "mini-moon". Having been through so many difficult times/decisions/changes during COVID in 2020, we were hoping a short getaway post small family wedding ceremony would be a good way to escape and relax. The hotel itself is beautiful in decor and location is great, close to downtown Stone Harbor. The staff is wonderful including front desk, cleaning, and valet. Our room was nice with small patio/porch that faced the adjacent hotel. However, despite the many signs instructing guest to wear masks, it was evident that other guests did not feel the need to oblige in most locations throughout the hotel. There were also a significant number of kids staying in the resort and I may have seen 3 of them in total wearing a mask. The mattress of the bed in our room was also INCREDIBLY uncomfortable...to the point where my husband had to sleep on the couch due to back pain. If there were room for a second person on that couch, I probably would have joined him. The bathroom fan and "nightlight" did not have the option to turn off so they both ran all night constantly. Overall, we had a decent vacation but I don't think I would recommend anyone staying in this particular location for the price. read more

Stated here the first weekend they reopened after covid 19. Hotel was very clean and I saw a lot of cleaning. I was very disappointed that they were not enforcing people wearing masks. Although there were signs up everywhere there were many people not wearing masks. If the patrons were not taking it seriously the first weekend I'm scared of what it will be like in a few. Literally the WORST service at the Jersey Shore. Not only did they mess up our initial check in and we had to scramble to find other accommodations for one night after a two and a half hour drive but the very next day they gave us a room overlooking a parking LOT for 600 a night! With a five year old a a seven year old child, they expected us to stay in a room with a terrace OPEN to the parking lot. Do yourself a favor and find other accommodations. Very expensive IMHO - Hotel simply painted rooms and added new carpeting- elevators old and creaky - no way to adjust A/C - Howerer-- downstairs for the wedding was beautiful - Staff is attentive Be Prepared at 7 am garbage was getting picked up waking all - and maids were outside door laughing and talking loud. Note : we did not use the beach or pool and told front desk when checking in ( there is a 35 buck fee for not returning badges) ===when we went to check out found out that 4(!) beach badges were signed out in our name!! Sort of shady fraud by someone! Was taken off our bill after complaining.... There are other hotels in Avalon or Stone Harbor. read more

Our server deserves 5 stars - Emily was friendly and very nice. Other then that, this beach bar deserves zero stars! Table was dirty when we were seated. Waited more then 10 minutes for a server. Finally had to go to the hostess and ask to have someone come to our table. The drinks were terrible. Sent 2 back - margarita was so sour! And the beach refresher was missing something and tasted terrible. Now dinner --- we had to ask for utensils and napkins AFTER our food was served. The lobster roll - bland, not tasty at all. Fish tacos were fishy and salty and the smoked salmon wrap was terrible - couldn't even eat it. Filled with capers and and way to salty. Our water was never refilled once! We didn't even eat our appetizers and they brought out 1 of the 5 dinners. Then sporadically brought out the dinners one by one. Just unorganized and not worth it!!! The atmosphere was decent if you want to go and just sit and listen to the music and drink beer. read more

Extremely disappointed. I had a nice time at the bar with my best friend and our moms one day. Came back a few days later to get more drinks with my friend. The employee at the bar took our ID's and continued to almost bend them in half. I have worked at a bar for 3 years and you do not need to practically break an ID to see if it is real or not. May I mention we are 22 and 23. He bent my friends ID so much that the plastic lifted in the middle and told her he could not accept it because "it was bubbling". He then continued to avoid us and was not friendly whatsoever. Will not be coming back here again! read more

Our experience with the service and accomodations has been subpar at best. We planned on joining rooms; both parties spending significant time on the phone with Icona to arrange them and when we got here they gave the joining rooms away. They had the note in their system and claimed a miscommunication. Ok...understanding that mistakes happen and they tried to accommodate us as best they could with other options. One option...a room with 2 queen beds and a pull out couch for 2 families...6pp. Not the best solution there. We were given a bonus room for our arranged babysitter to watch our kids in a larger room to practice the social distancing we were planning on and our babysitter was expecting. We were hoping to get a luggage cart to carry the multiple bags for our party, but after a 20 minute wait we simply gave up. It was raining the first night and we asked if they had umbrellas for guests...that was an easy no. I'm the am, we were planning to enjoy a cup of coffee...no coffee pods or water. When I called down they said to use the water from the faucet and they will bring the pods to our room. We've been here less than 24 hours and have been very disappointed with the entire experience. Considering this is NOT a budget hotel, we expected better. Day 2 here we come‍ read more

My friend and I stayed here for one night in October after a wedding in cape May. We were so pleasantly surprised with how nice the rooms were and the friendly staff. The pool and other amenities were wonderful but we were so busy with the wedding we only got to use it strictly for to sleep. When thinking of a place to stay for MDW weekend we thought immediately of ICONA! It was going to be one last girls trip before two of our friends moved south. It was super easy to book and they were so accommodating on answering all questions and all it came with the room (chairs umbrella passes) that we were just so excited. However, sadly yesterday (three days before MDW) my friend had emergency appendix removal and we had to rethink going this weekend. It was a lot of money for the much shorter group that was supposed to be going so I decided to call and see since I knew the trip was non refundable. The lady was was so amazing on the phone and so nice and felt me so relieved when she allowed us to cancel with just a fee. I can't express more how ICONA handled this situation. I can't wait to go back and actually be able to enjoy! read more

Stayed here recently and cannot say enough nice things about the hotel. The staff is friendly and welcoming. It is extremely clean and very chic. The beach is right there as if connected to the hotel and you have the availability of getting chaise lounges and umbrellas set up for you. This is a lovely touch. The pool area has sufficient seating and of course a hot tub for you to enjoy. The pool is large and very clean. They have a nice tiki bar by the beach with ample seating for drinks and lunch. The hotel is located for easy travel to all the hot spots of the shore. We had a lovely stay! Can't wait to get back. read more

Our daughter's wedding reception was held at the Icona Avalon in Nov. 2021. To sum up our experience, we feel that the Icona is overrated and overpriced. The cocktail hour was a huge disappointment. The passed hors d'oeuvres were not as good as at the tasting, and the amount of food and the staffing were insufficient for our party of almost 200. The charcuterie station was depleted after 30 minutes and never replenished. Whoever was managing the event was either inattentive or incompetent. The plated dinner was good, not great, and mistakes were made even though the venue required the guests' meal orders in advance. The two hour after-party at the Avalon Brew Pub was supposed to serve pizza with a cash bar. The pizza ran out after about one hour, and there was only one bartender, which was totally inadequate for the size of our group. Many people waited 10 to 15 minutes to get a drink. The hotel itself was an attractive and clean place for our guests to stay, and most of the staff was pleasant. The ballroom was not large enough to have a party of almost 200 with a decent dancefloor. As such, we had to access the adjoining room at an extra charge of $500 (to remove the doors). In retrospect, I would advise couples looking for a wedding venue on the southern Jersey shore to think carefully before choosing the Icona Avalon. read more

My husband and I just got back from a little getaway. Checking in was a breeze the ladies at the front desk where very pleasant and nice. As we open the door to our room the smell of mold hit us in the face( we had to open the slider door to air the room out ) . For the price that we pay for our room it shouldn't smell like this. If I may make a suggestion they should change their filters hopefully that would take care of the problem plus maybe shampooing the rugs. Next morning we go to the Pub ( again theres the smell ) for breakfast the hostess and waitress were very nice and personable. I ordered poached eggs with ham and a fruit medley. I received poached eggs, bacon instead of ham and no fruit medley. I do understand that finding help is hard but however whoever is working there should do a quality control check... Going to the pool they have no restrictions on glass, a bottle broke and no one was there to clean it up. It. was left to the guest at the pool to tell other people who were going to sit there that there was broken glass. The lounge chairs do need to be changed they are stained, dirty and stretched, not comfortable to sit on. They do give you towels to sit on but they need to be the size of a bath towel and not a hand towel. It is expensive to stay there but these little things can be changed to make it a 5 star. Pasquale at the coffee shop in the lobby is very personable and very enjoyable to talk to. It's very nice and refreshing to talk to someone who is very pleasant while they are making your coffee and tea in the morning! read more

Everything was covered, staff was great from the out door bar, pool and pool side service, to Otis setting upo the beach chairs and umbrella, Service was top notch, the front desk people could not have been nicer, even retrieving a forgotten lap top! Gorgeous rooms, nice environment and good access to the beach. Bathrooms also felt luxurious. Nice to have a balcony as well. The staff and guests are taking plenty of COVID-19 precautions and enforcing mask-wearing, which I really appreciate to feel safe. It is nice being able to get umbrellas and lounge chairs / beach chairs just a quick walk from your hotel room. I do think it's very expensive here for what you get, but the experience does far exceed other options in this market. The pool is a little small but definitely works. During the busy season, it is bound to get full fast. I do wish they would maybe hose down the lounge chairs at the beach after use because every day when we went out they had sand all over them and they're not super comfortable. There's even old bird poop caked onto one of the chairs we got. Overall we are very much enjoying our time here and the staff are all nice and attentive. I would recommend it as this hotel is a beautiful environment and great location :) read more
