So the room and service get 4 stars The pool gets 2-3 stars. Rooms still look good after the refresh. Pretty clean and well maintained. Love the mini fridge in the rooms. Beds are comfy Staff is friendly and helpful. Pool was nicely designed and lots of chairs/umbrellas given the space. All the chairs will be gone by 10:30am so get there early. Staff is helpful. Pool itself is not maintained quite how it should. It's cloudy and not the cleanest I have seen. Nice addition is the chase lounges offered on the beach. Nice upgrade. read more

we went to the icona windrift in Avalon for breakfast. we walked in and waited for a hostess. no one showed. I stopped a busboy and asked he said he doesn't know where she is. he told us to seat ourselves. we went to get a high seat and they were all dirty with jelly etc on them. I then stopped a waitress and asked if someone could wipe them off. we then waited 10 minutes at our table for a waiter. he gave us menus another 10 minutes before he came back to take a drink order. the drinks never came. we did put a food order in. we waited 15 minutes for the drinks to come. I said to my family (6 o us). we are out of here. I stopped at the bar to ask for a manager. she said she was. I explained that I watched her on her cell phone earlier and drinking her drink while we were waiting for ours to come. we last ate here about 10 years ago and noticed the service going down. What a great weekend get away! Rooms are gorgeous and spacious with the white/blue nautical color scheme throughout the hotel. I loved our balcony and view of the pool/beach. There is a brew pub attached to the hotel, very convenient, and there's also an awesome variety of local beers. Staff was awesome, always making it a point to greet guests and we never once felt ignored despite the back to back weddings going on. Alex in particular was very accommodating and the most memorable staff member we interacted with during our stay! Unfortunately the pool/hot tub/outdoor bar were closed for the "cozy" season, but can't wait to return in the summer! read more

Let me just preface this review by saying I did not say in a room at the Golden Inn. The review is purely on the beach bar and poolside food. Even though I did not stay at the Inn, they were happy to let me sit by their rather nice pool and even offered me a towel to take a swim... I took them up on their offer in between rounds of drinks. Usual drink prices are nothing to get excited over, but their happy hour specials (3 to 6 daily) are decent (well jersey shore decent). I was also pleasantly surprised by the fish tacos. read more

We came to the Sandbar on a Saturday after a beach day and we found that it was very welcoming. We felt like we were still on the beach, only now with drinks in our hands. Its located right behind the dunes, on the Avalon-Stone Harbor borderline. The vibe is definitely what you're looking for when at the shore. It is set up like a beach bar, with live music and drink specials. We had previously spent time at the pricey Windrift next door and were very glad to have found this place, so close and for a much better atmosphere. Our drinks were really good ($3 corona, and $5 pina colada) and we tried the chicken nachos. The nachos arrived in a tightly sealed take out container causing the chips to steam and arrive mushy. All the food arrived to tables this way, which at first seemed odd but then made sense when you notice the 350 hungry sea gulls over head. read more

So far, not so good...we came 3000 miles for a family reunion. We've been booked for months and so excited. I walk into our room and there was one bed and a couch. No kitchen. Just a Keurig and a mini fridge. We had booked the top of the line for the first time in our lives. Denied! We were told on the phone we'd have two queens, a couch, a kitchen and a view. The manager offered to move us across the hotel to a room with two queens and a delightful view of a parking lot. Far from family and the lobby and the ocean view. The guy then comes to us and says they will remove the couch and put in a queen in the original room. In the meantime, an employee in housekeeping asks me what's wrong. I tell her we were given the wrong room. She asked what we were told we were getting. She said, "We don't have rooms that big." Ah, so you are either calling me a liar or stupid...swell. We told the manager we'd take the room. He explained that apparently the room came up on their computer as having two queens. Configured completely differently. He said he was embarrassed and confused. I thought in my head how I really didn't care what his feelings about the situation were. We just wanted what we signed up for and to start our reunion off with goodness, not stress and tears! I finally got a chance to lie supine. I just got through a back surgery and hurt still. As I'm lying there, crazy hammering starts in the room next door. It's still under construction! My husband asked the manager when it would stop. He said this weekend. So I guess that means no rest on a Thursday even if the rest is paid for! Wth is with this place?! I'm hoping tomorrow is a different day. It sure was a bummer to start out this reunion leg of our vacation in tears! So disappointing. Friday: Woke from incessant hammering. They said it would be done yesterday. Hmm. We are from San Diego and a 3 hour time difference. So for us, the hammering started at 5 am! No relaxing in our rooms today, it appears. Update: In the room, we soon found out that nothing worked. The coffee maker was hooked up to the wall switch. The fridge wasn't cold. We went to call and the phone didn't work! So we tried the TV and sure enough, it was snow. My husband went to tell the staff. He told them again later on. He told them Friday two times. By Saturday morning, still nothing had been done! My husband had asked to speak to the GM numerous times to no avail. Finally, he hunted him down and found him in a hallway. Told him everything. The manager went to a magic maintenance book at the front desk (where my husband had been going everyday) and said he didn't find my husband's numerous reports in there, insinuating he was lying! Then, he actually said that the contract doesn't state that the TV, microwave, coffee maker needs to actually work! It's not in writing so they really don't have to work. I am not kidding you. Right now, you are probably thinking I am embellishing and sadly, I am not! My husband said it is obviously implied. The manager kept pressing that point. What an absolute idiot. Truly. How did this man come to be in his position?! That is suspect in itself. My husband said we booked what we were told was the best room. We spoke to someone in person to book it. Not only was it falsely advertised, nothing worked and our family reunion, which should have been delightful, was tainted. Not just at the beginning, but the whole event. He said he wanted a discount on the room rate. The manager said he would not do that because my husband would go back to our group and then everyone else would start asking for discounts! I swear to GOD (and I'm a believer). My husband was so outraged and angry at this point, he had to walk away before he punched this idiot in the nose. We ended up paying full price. The top of the line room rate for a room with nothing that worked, had nothing they said it would, which included the space, the view and even a freaking bed for two out of our party of four. My husband said he just didn't have time to fight it and he would punch the GM if he had to talk to him again, he was so angry. Our group also didn't receive some of the amenities promised such as reserved fire rings big enough for 50 people (we had over 60) and beach lounge chairs included in our rate. And they tried to make our party pay a tip fee BEFORE our stay but the cousin who organized fought it and refused. It just was a bumbling fiasco from start to finish. Everything was a pain in the butt. The only nice things I have to say: The housekeeping staff did a good job. The food was good, but you couldn't get a drink or refill from the waitstaff to save your life. That's it. I strongly recommend that you do not stay at this establishment. Yes, they have renovated. I kept saying it was lipstick on a pig. Don't waste your money or your vacation time. Our family had an awful, awful experience! read more

Stayed here for a mid-week overnight. The staff was rude, they seemed to treat us like we were beneath them. The restaurant staff was especially rude. We went to "Seaglass" for brunch and I asked to sit outside, they waiter told me that sitting by the windows was good enough. My fiance and I were sat at an 8 person table which was very awkward. When we were ordering our meals I asked if I could substitute the side of toast with a side of bacon and he VERY rudely and sharply said "NO" without offering any other options or up-charges. Our food was nothing to write home about and the service was horrendous. Not to mention, I was thirsty all night so we tried to find a vending machine to get some water. Apparently there is only one vending machine in the building and it's hidden in the back of the garage. We had to go hunting for it only to get there and find out it's broken. When we were checking out the next day I mentioned that the vending machine was broken and he simply said, "NO, it only takes dollars".... A simple sign could have remedied that situation but instead it only created angry guests. Don't waste your money. The sand bar is convenient but stay somewhere else and grab a drink there. read more

If there was less than 1 star, I would've given them that. Terrible, terrible service. And they could care less - don't even apologize for it. It was infuriating. I can deal with the shabby, outdated rooms... The fact that the elevators barely work and/or were never in service... The sliding door that takes an ox to open, and the phone with no dial tone. I could even almost forgive the wi-fi that blatantly didn't work. What I cannot stomach is shitty service and attitude. We stayed 2 nights and on our 2nd day, came back to the room at 5pm and it had not been cleaned. Huh? We had no towels and were out of toilet paper. The maid finally knocked at 5:30 when we were getting ready to head to dinner, and we said, 'we'll be gone in 20 minutes so you're welcome to clean then, but could we have a roll of toilet paper for now? We're out." To which she replied, "Yeah I don't have any and I'd have to go downstairs for that." HUH?!?! Then she said she'd clean another room 1st and do ours once we left. Fine. We returned to the room around midnight to find it untouched. No one had ever come to clean it. WTF. I would've called the front desk but our phone didn't work. So we went down there and politely asked for towels and some TP, and told them what had happened, and the woman at the desk just stared at us. Like we had 5 heads. Didn't offer an apology, didn't really acknowledge what we were saying, but did hand us toilet paper and bring up towels later. It was total bullshit. To top it all off, this morning when I checked out, I tried to grab a cup of coffee from the to-go stand in the restaurant where the continental breakfast is. Out of coffee. GET IT TOGETHER PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was on a business trip and our company covered the hotel... However if they hadn't, I would've either left or demanded a refund of some sort. You can't treat people like that and then give them attitude when they ask for some simple courtesies and conveniences. And we shouldn't have had to ask. Good parts: the restaurant staff inside was very friendly, and the Beach bar is cool. Otherwise I wouldn't touch this place ever again with an 89 1/2 ft pole. read more

Stayed there this past weekend. Overpriced and underserviced! The outside façade looks to be relatively new. The rooms are outdated except for the tvs. Bathroom can barely fit 1 person and is in need of some repair. The mini fridge in the room did not keep anything near cold even with the coldest setting. Balcony was nice and so was the view. That's the only nice thing I can say. The staff is inattentive. A warm greeting would be nice since they are taking $400 a night from your pocket. Deposits for beach tags seems reasonable but deposits for beach towels? I use bigger, thicker and newer towels to wash my car and they want $0 per person deposit for the towels... When a doorman opens the door they never smile and say hello or goodbye. Neither does the front desk crew or the staff walking around the hotel. I went into the bar for a cocktail on Friday night around 8:30 and it was relatively empty. There were 2 bartenders behind the bar and I still had to wait 10 minutes. I said something to the bar tender and no apology just a :what do you want'" The other bartender was researching the ingredients to a house drink. I'm not a rocket scientist but I can figure out why no crowd on a Friday night. My senses tell me there is a serious void in leadership at the hotel. There seems to be a culture of indifference and the fish usually rots from the head. read more

Nice beachside location to grab a drink during happy hour. Sundays seem to be the most crowded, with a DJ and casual beach vibe. Drink specials are always up on the board and the sand under your feet is a nice way to waste away the remainder of your afternoon. The crowd tends to be the typical Avalon mid 20-30's single crowd, not really the place you'd want to bring a family. read more

The rooms in the old side (near the beach) are better than the ones in the new side (but renovated outside) - don't be fooled. I love the beach bar - though service can be lousy when it is crowded. Please answer your telephone! Last month when we got married in Avalon, we reserved a block of 7 rooms. Our guests had trouble getting in touch with the hotel to book the rooms. It seems that they don't answer the phones on the weekends after 4pm weekdays?! My husband and I also stayed here and it's very frustrating when you have questions and their phone just rings and rings. They also gave us 2 queens after we explicitly requested and booked a king room 4 months beforehand. Everything else was serviceable and you can't ask for a better location. They get away with mediocre service and furnishings simply because of their beachfront spot. The high price is also worth mentioning. Our block rate of $200 seemed exorbitant, but the regular rate for the high season is $350! It wouldn't take much for the Golden Inn to reclaim their former glory of the 90s. More than anything they should just hire more people behind the front desk! read more

My wife and I got married on the beach through the Golden Inn, and it was an amazing experience. The hotel and poolside cocktail area were gorgeous, and the entire staff couldn't have been nicer. The hotel room we stayed in was absolutely perfect. Everything was clean, organized and most importantly, comfortable. If you are staying in the area, make sure its with the Golden Inn. I am giving this hotel two stars but only because they did refund my account after the room block manager Matt messed up my suite and room block. First I had reserved a block of rooms for my wedding and had assigned gift bags for friends and family who stayed here. Not only did this hotel not hand out half the guest bags but my guests had to ask them for the gift bags (because I told them they would be receiving one). I also had to manually go through and highlight guests that employees had not booked in our block. Second, the room block coordinator Matthew lied to me on the phone when I booked my bridal suite. Matt had sent me pictures from his phone of a suite that I was under the impression I had booked. So at first I was so impressed with their hospitality and willingness to help. When I go to check into the room I see instantly that this was NOT the room I paid for. Which was a large amount of money a night- but it was my wedding so I splurged. After much back and forth with the front desk they only refunded my money after I showed them the email correspondence with Matt and how the pictures in the email were NOT the suite I had been given. Third, we had to request that our room be serviced and they did a mediocre job on that as well. There are so many better hotels to stay in on the Island such as the Stone Harbor Inn (where some of our wedding guests stayed and had NO issues). This Hotel is over priced and almost all the rooms except oceanfront have the view of a parking lot. We will never be giving Icona our business again. read more

Stayed two nights in April for a conference. Room was clean, conference area was comfortable. Hotel was pretty empty so we didn't have to compete with many other guests. Pool was not yet open but outside pool area looked pretty nice. First night our heater was broken--blowing cold air--reported it to the front desk and they had it fixed within the hour. Second day the tub had a slow drain--same thing--reported problem and it was fixed quickly. Front desk filled our requests for extra towels and blankets. Hotel is certainly in a great beach location--right at it with direct access. It is about 1 mile from the little downtown Stone Harbor area. Restaurant was good--because we were a conference group we had buffet breakfast and plated dinner. I'm a vegetarian and we didn't have any vegetarian dinners offered (our fault not theirs) and the kitchen went out of their way to offer me a number of selections. All in all a nice experience--would go again. Not sure what its like during summer peak season. read more

Still serving $15 salads with watered down dressing, so so burgers out of plastic containers from a deli and pizza that taste like it came out of the freezer. This is 2019 at a high end hotel? Please read this as well as the other reviews, they are spot on: Do not stay at the Golden Inn!!!! I have stay at 100's of hotels and by far, this is one of my worst experiences. For $380 / night, my family and I were robbed. Here is a list of problems during our short 3 day experience: Our room was not ready at our 3:00 check-in (it was one hour late), I never experienced a room not ready at check in They did not put towels in our room Our door broke (the lock fell apart) The shower was weaker than a garden sprinkler The pool was disgusting...aren't you supposed to see the bottom The service was horrible...we couldn't give them our money because the pool waitress only came around every half hour The second day we returned from the beach to have no towels again...how do you service a room, take the towels and not replace them When housekeeping delivered the towels, she was extremely rude We called to speak to the manager and was told that there was no manager on service The rooms are dated and need work There are more smaller items like an empty tissue box, the sink did not drain well, no body lotion...by now you should get my point Dear friends, the people at the Golden Inn clearly don't care about the customer experience. If I was paying $125 a night I could suck it up. But I expect at least bath towels and a clean pool for $380 a night. While we can not comment on the other hotels in Avalon, you are better off trying the Windrift or the Concord because I promise you will be disappointed with the Golden Inn. I travel globally and have stayed at your typical Courtyard to and Holiday Inn Expresses. Even the discount business hotels are significantly better than the Golden Inn. read more

In spite of the Front Office Manager's crass attitude, even towards loyal returning customers, who does not take complaints seriously, the hotel is still four stars. It's location, pool area, beach, and easy walk to The Windrift and Concord make it a center of activity and one of the nicest spots to stay along the Jersey shore. Especially for middle-aged vacationers. Most important, the hotel is clean. The WIFI in the West wing has been terrible for a least four years. So if Internet is important, I recommend staying in the East wing. You will have fun here...as long as you don't have to talk to the Front Desk Manager with a complaint, don't waste your breathe. read more

They were behind schedule and just had a soft opening today of the beach bar I was happy to see that they hired Sacred Vibration to play This is the best reggae band in the region They are only playing every other weekend since someone at Icona management made an erroneous decision to let a band play every other weekend that is quite frankly not in the same league as Sacred Vibration This is a common theme on the island They always have lesser bands playing with the exception of Sacred Vibration which had done a fine job last year I guess it's a jersey thing There are a few bands that play well,such as the Seabillys ,but they have a terrible track record for bands at the Drift and the Golden Inn For example the band yesterday at the Golden Inn was not so great The Drift has been hiring lousy bands forever but there's always hope for improvement Anyway the staff at Icona appears to be very attentive and trying to get what used to be the best Sunday happy hour in the county back running again They need to string fishing line to keep out the gulls,just one more little detail Special mention to Josh for his efforts and I thought the bartenders were working very hard and had great attitudes Now if they could only fire the other band and hire Sacred Vibration for every Sunday from 3to 730 that would be great One more thing I read another review where the writer said go to the Concord to eat Not such a great idea The best tavern in the county for real food at very fair prices is Freds You can get a real salad there that is as fresh as if it was a five star and a nice piece of fish on top for under $20 Concord is only good if it's late and you're desperate for pizza read more

Drinks were fine, so then we decide to order an appetizer, considering we have heard before not to order any actual food from here. We get the chips and salsa... pretty hard to mess up. Salsa is in a cup and most definitely the same salsa from a can I have at my house & the chips are so stale they could break a tooth. We try to be nice and keep eating the chips but after a few we realized how ridiculous it was not to say anything. This place is terrible. The bar is extremely overpriced in an already overpriced area. Our there was with 20 people was beyond ridiculous. The drinks are all near $10 a piece and are basically sippy cups. The special was 5 beers for $25 which isn't terrible the advertised specials were for domestic pounders (16 oz) which when we ordered we were given 12oz. The bar also advertised a band which ended up being a woman with a guitar that was unable to be heard. The food was horrible, the pizza looked as it was a frozen pizza from wawa and heated. The staff although friendly are slower then slow. We received our food and asked for plates and silverware so we could share pizza wings and other apps. The waitress came back with a drink after 5 minutes with none so we asked again. This time she didn't come back for near another 10 minutes so I walked up to the kitchen and just took it all over to our table. She then brought us 5 napkins to the table. The place also has no running water in the restroom which is disgusting. So if you want to triple pay for terrible service, food, ambiance go here otherwise take a small trip to the Reeds or Winddrift. read more

While the drink was being made I saw it was wrong and corrected the bar tender. He said "I got it". Handed me the wrong drink. Told him it was wrong. Then got me like. We have been staying here for five years straight. This is our last year. The front desk staff is rude and obnoxious. When we first checked in there was a mistake on the reservation the person checking us in could care less about the mistake and said we only paid a half deposit anyway. They made the mistake but did not admit it and only were concerned about how we paid for half of a five night stay. We originally booked for six nights. Also parking is a pain especially on weekends as they have alot of outsiders come to the tiki bar and over take the pool. read more

Manager was insensitive, unprofessional and nonchalant about a head injury (she was hit by a heavy umbrella that fell over) that my friend received while sitting in the pool area. Will never stay there again, nor will I recommend it to anyone. read more
