She is/was very worried after an abnormal CT scan and ultrasound and had anticipated finally getting to see a Dr. If we could use any physicians outside Via Christi we would do so, it appears, however, that they are quickly becomming a monoply in this city. A similar pattern was observed at the same time on another unit while visiting a family friend. Two years later, during my brother-in-law's admission in 2025 on the epilepsy unit, the same staffing pattern was evident. Across these separate admissions, care was competent and professional, yet consistently felt impersonal and temporary, suggesting a systemic dependence on short-term staffing rather than a deeply anchored care culture. Travel nursing is understandably an attractive option, and those nurses' contributions are appreciated. However, the persistence of this model across years and units raises a fundamental question for hospital leadership: what concrete steps are being taken to build and retain a stable, permanent nursing workforce? As an RN, I have worked in ICUs where nurse retention is the standard, not the exception, which makes this pattern difficult to overlook. It was also concerning to observe that the charge nurse appeared to be the most tenured member of the unit. This dynamic places disproportionate responsibility on a single individual and has implications not only for patient experience and continuity of care, but also for the sustainability of the unit and the well-being of both the charge nurse and bedside staff.

He had only been in a bed a few days but they said he needed to go to a skilled home to help get his strength back. First of all this is a working man that is in no way needing strength help. This came across to me to be a bit of a sham. Something shady going on here. We said absolutely not! Then he was admitted to the floor and not only was he not allowed to get out of bed, nobody worked with him to help get strength back from being in bed at this point 12 days. Nobody walked with him down the hall. All they did was leave him in bed. We did not receive any information about how he was doing or what the future plans were with his illness. It got so bad we demanded an immediate discharge and went to another hospital. Something pretty fishy with this place. The 2nd hospital provided much better care, helped him do things, and was great. This place needs investigated. Watch your insurance folks. This place is in cahoots with skilled nursing facilities. Rather than help you while you are there, they want to send you to another facility after they leave you in bed for a week. There must be a kickback somewhere. Never again. Also no bath after 15 days.

He was flown by airplane to Childrens Mercy hospital in Kansas City, MO. He opened his mouth at the Wesley ER and his tongue was almost dried out, I GASPED!!!!!!! The Dr. at Wesley hospital and Childrens Mercy shook their heads in disbelief he was turned away. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE A LICENSE TO TREAT!!!!!!!!!

From the moment I arrived, every single person, receptionist, nurse, doctor, radiology tech, and transport, treated me with incredible kindness and respect. They made me feel comfortable, took my concerns seriously, and never once dismissed my pain. Special thanks to Gladys, Lacy, Dr. Paxon, and Haley, my care team that day. You were compassionate, thorough, and incredibly professional. You ran every test necessary and ultimately diagnosed me with acute appendicitis, quickly arranging for me to be transferred to Wesley for surgery. If I missed someone that was involved that day, I appreciate you as well! What I didn't realize at the time was just how life-saving that visit would be. During my appendectomy, a tiny cancerous tumor was found in my appendix, so small it never would've shown up on imaging. Because I'm over 40 (and appendicitis is less common at my age), that finding led my doctors to do further screenings. They found and removed a precancerous polyp, and I later had another preventative surgery for something else -- but never would've been addressed if it wasn't for my care on February 20, 2025. The proactive, attentive care I received at Derby ER set everything in motion. You very likely saved my life. I will forever be grateful for you. If there were others on my care team whose names I didn't catch, please know this gratitude extends to you as well.

They were nice & very awesome the first time I went for the pain with rheumatoid arthritis. This…read moretime they for some reason didn't give me a shot of steroids to get it in system faster to get relief. However they did give me oral steroids that take longer so they should start to work by Tuesday when I get in to see a rheumatologist for my first visit. My point is that I went for some relief so I can get rest & sleep as well. I think the actual doctor was in my room for 3 minutes. I really thought when he said prednisone I was starting out with it in a shot and getting a prescription for the rest but they are all oral. I liked how fast I was in & out but I wished there would have been a bit more relief as I am in a lot of pain & not able to sleep because of the pain It sucks because this is an illness you can't see & I feel it is misunderstood for that reason. Dr. Sellberg ran no tests, told us we were textbook car wreck victims. We would heal in time. Asked about our car and said good thing we were in a Toyota. Two days later after not feeling any better, we went to the Wesley ER in Andover and had CT scans, x-rays, an ultrasound on my swollen leg to check for blood clots. Turns out, I have 6 fractured ribs, 2 compressed vertebrae and need a breathing device to avoid pneumonia. Sure glad we decided to get a second opinion. I stayed with him much of the time but went home to take care of my dad. When i came in the next morning, T was telling me how nice they were and how much they helped him when he was feeling sick. They were so patient as gentle with him. I am so pleased because so many times people dont take their time with him and help him understand, they just do what needs to be done and he feel scared. What a great place! My son was sick and I was so nervous and scared. I didn't know what was going…read moreon with him. They gave him a rapid Covid test. It wasn't Covid. It was some kind of virus, it turns out, but not Covid. They gave him fluids via IV as he was dehydrated. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable and very caring. The doctor gave us a timeline for how much longer we could expect this virus to go on, and he was right on the money. All we could do was wait it out. I recommend this place.
