She is/was very worried after an abnormal CT scan and ultrasound and had anticipated finally getting to see a Dr. If we could use any physicians outside Via Christi we would do so, it appears, however, that they are quickly becomming a monoply in this city. At Wesley ER at 13th and Tyler, here in Wichita, I experienced nothing but sincere concern, kindness, compassion and a true dedication to the profession of either nurses, PA, or doctors! Two days later after not feeling any better, we went to the Wesley ER in Andover and had CT scans, x-rays, an ultrasound on my swollen leg to check for blood clots. Turns out, I have 6 fractured ribs, 2 compressed vertebrae and need a breathing device to avoid pneumonia. Sure glad we decided to get a second opinion. However they did give me oral steroids that take longer so they should start to work by Tuesday when I get in to see a rheumatologist for my first visit. My point is that I went for some relief so I can get rest & sleep as well. I think the actual doctor was in my room for 3 minutes. I really thought when he said prednisone I was starting out with it in a shot and getting a prescription for the rest but they are all oral. I liked how fast I was in & out but I wished there would have been a bit more relief as I am in a lot of pain & not able to sleep because of the pain It sucks because this is an illness you can't see & I feel it is misunderstood for that reason. After they left I was in excruciating pain. I called the nurse crying to ask if I could have more pain meds. She said I could have 5 hours before. When I asked why hadn't gotten it, she said I had to asked for it. This was my 6th spine surgery and have never had to ask for pain meds. It was brought to me and asked if I wanted it. She suggested I set a timer on my phone because she had so many patients to look after, she couldn't keep track of all of their meds. I talked to the night nurse about getting pain meds and said I wanted to be woke up for pain meds. He did not and ended up going 9 hours without pain meds. After that I set a timer day and for meds but never did get a handle on my pain after that. I always had to have help to use the restroom. I always took a very long time for someone to come. One night I rang 3 times and waited almost an hour for help. One night the aide helped me to the toilet, sat me down and was told to pull the string when I was done and he left. I pulled the string and it took him quite awhile to come back and help me back to bed. It just seemed like I was a nuisance to the nurses when they had to care for me. If given a choice, I will never return there and would advise anyone to choose somewhere else to be treated!

It was embarrassing. They had monitors on them in the waiting room as they waited for rooms upstairs. The kids were then moved to the ADULT psychiatric ER. One child was there by herself and left in a room by herself where a man, who was in the ER, entered her room. My child and another child were in a room waiting to go upstairs. The other parent and I were screamed at by nurses to put our phones away or they'd be banned from the premises. Our children hadn't been admitted yet. And no one said us parents couldn't have phones. When I left to go to the nurses desk to let them know the man was in the girls room the nurse gave me a dirty look when I approached the window. I tried speaking to her but she rolled her eyes and turned away from me. I went back to the room with my child and kept an eye on the man across the hall in the other girls room. He closed the door and we saw a staff so we yelled for his help. I later learned my child was forced to strip naked on the ward and be viewed by staff to 'document' any injuries. (They're self injurious and we're admitted for suicide attempt). When I confronted a staff about this he said every staff does it differently but all staff are paired same gender with two staff present. I will never entrust this hospital with my child's mental health ever again. COVID was bad enough but to be treated this was made a very difficult time in their life 10 times worse. I suggest you don't utilize the pediatric psychiatric hospital, there's others available.

A similar pattern was observed at the same time on another unit while visiting a family friend. Two years later, during my brother-in-law's admission in 2025 on the epilepsy unit, the same staffing pattern was evident. Across these separate admissions, care was competent and professional, yet consistently felt impersonal and temporary, suggesting a systemic dependence on short-term staffing rather than a deeply anchored care culture. Travel nursing is understandably an attractive option, and those nurses' contributions are appreciated. However, the persistence of this model across years and units raises a fundamental question for hospital leadership: what concrete steps are being taken to build and retain a stable, permanent nursing workforce? As an RN, I have worked in ICUs where nurse retention is the standard, not the exception, which makes this pattern difficult to overlook. It was also concerning to observe that the charge nurse appeared to be the most tenured member of the unit. This dynamic places disproportionate responsibility on a single individual and has implications not only for patient experience and continuity of care, but also for the sustainability of the unit and the well-being of both the charge nurse and bedside staff.

Then the dr and the case worker immediately stated to me after he had been there only a few days that he needed to go to a skilled nursing facility. I could never figure out why they wanted this. He had only been in a bed a few days but they said he needed to go to a skilled home to help get his strength back. First of all this is a working man that is in no way needing strength help. This came across to me to be a bit of a sham. Something shady going on here. We said absolutely not! Then he was admitted to the floor and not only was he not allowed to get out of bed, nobody worked with him to help get strength back from being in bed at this point 12 days. Nobody walked with him down the hall. All they did was leave him in bed. We did not receive any information about how he was doing or what the future plans were with his illness. It got so bad we demanded an immediate discharge and went to another hospital. Something pretty fishy with this place. The 2nd hospital provided much better care, helped him do things, and was great. This place needs investigated. Watch your insurance folks. This place is in cahoots with skilled nursing facilities. Rather than help you while you are there, they want to send you to another facility after they leave you in bed for a week. There must be a kickback somewhere. Never again. Also no bath after 15 days.
