Only recently "re-discovering' St Kilda, I was pleased to find Iddy Biddy Bar. If you travel just a bit further out of the St Kilda strip, you'll find this seemingly random bar with a 7/11 as it's neighbour. I had a catch up with some mates here (they got sick of always coming north-side), we knocked back a few cheap pints of Cider and actually ended up having dinner here. The venue doesn't look big enough to have a kitchen, there a small room inside, large seating area out front and small area in the rear (get your mind out of the gutter, this is a serious review, cough). The cosy interior reflects that of a moody Donny Darko vibe, the lighting is dim and you place your drinks and meal down on 1980's space invaders machines. Quite cool really. Theres a small bar inside and the guys are cheerful and happy to have a joke or two. For under $20, I ordered the Vegetarian Lasagne and a Cider. The meal was delivered right to my table and wow was it a big portion. I could barely finish it (Ok, i lied. Of course i finished it, I'm like a hoover at the dinner table), the portion was that large. Closing time came around and I left really impressed, I will definitely be back! read more

Stumbled across this little nugget whilst failing to find anything exciting on Ackland street. This place has a pretty cool eclectic feel with a raw mix of comfy couches, wooden tables and of all things, 80's flat-top arcade machines. Add to that some funky wall decorations and you have a pretty cool place to eat and enjoy a drink. They even have a fireplace. I had the $13 pepper-sauce porterhouse on mash which salad which is a Wed night special. To be honest, for that price I really didn't expect much but have to say it was actually really nice. The meat was cooked well and tasted more like a $25 piece of steak. Always love when the food outweighs the price in quality. The red house whine was a bit bitey but that's a subjective taste thing. Every time I come here for breakfast i always leave satisfied has to be one of my favourite spots with a great variety and price. This morning I had the Friday special which was smashed avo with cherry tomatoes, feta and poached eggs it was absolutely delicious and only $10 had a Bloody Mary to accompany and was spot on with the spices. read more

I feel kinda bad giving this place 3-stars, but to be honest their food brought it down from a potential 4. I've always walked past this place and it's been jam packed - can't get a seat. Given that it's winter in St Kilda, it's low tourist season and most Melbernians aren't braving these cold nights either. Perfect for my friend and I to suss. out what all the fuss is about. I'm the kinda gal where atmosphere is just as important as the food and service. It can make or break. The interior is eclectic and something you'd expect to find north of the city (that could be why it's rated so highly on Yelp - so much of St Kilda and Elwood is typical square tables, all identically matched. This is more like the little baby sister of the Vineyard, in terms of alternative vibe). The lighting is perfect (the term 'mood lighting' was not coined for nothing). To the right you have an assortment of different couches and arm-chairs, suitable for a catchup with an old friend; to the left, cute wooden benches for a meal (would fit max. 4 people). The service was great too. A bit of banter and a friendly smile - it goes a long way. A lot of hospitality jobs in St Kilda are filled by backpackers (most of whom are just there for a short time and passing through). The meal itself though was a little disappointing. I had been craving a parma (we normally go to the Village Bell - hardly your fine dining experience), but I looked up the reviews and everyone seemed to rate Iddy Biddy quite highly for their Parmas. Plus, as mentioned, it's probably the only restaurant/venue in St Kilda I haven't been! The parma was literally the size of a bird. Our side salad and chips were pushed aside (and off our plate) as we attempted to carve the beast. The disappointing part was that it tasted like a big chicken nugget... Although we couldn't finish our mains, there's always room for desert. The first two options weren't available, the third (and only) option had to suffice. It tasted like packet mix cake (but not in a good way) that they'd chucked a few Tim Tams in! Again, it was bigger than we could handle... but as we all know, it's not always the size that matters - it's quality over quantity. 3-stars does not mean I won't return. I really like the place. Plenty of outdoor seating, great deals, good food, and crazy big (as well as inventive) Parmas make Iddy Biddy the king of the thriving Barkly/Blessington Corridor in St. Kilda. I have a dog and I like chicken wings and beer so the combo of being able to sit outside while enjoying $1 wings and $5 pints most evening at Iddy Biddy is good combo. On the weekends they have good breakfast deals and the food id pretty good by bar food standards. Sitting outside in little Dublin (lower St. Kilda) is a treat in itself. One night I met an ill mannered full-size poodle named Caesar, a homeless homeowner, as well as a rotund young gentleman who loves dogs and chocolate milk. Good food that is well priced. Very large menu so lots to choose from but can make it hard to choose. Decent atmosphere with limited outdoor seating. Been here twice now and enjoyed the experience. One issue, both times the staff messed up the order. First time they forgot a tea. Second time they forgot to add chicken to a salad we ordered. Not a deal breaker as they quickly fixed the issue the second time and I don't think we were charged for the tea the first time so no biggie Would definitely recommend this place and will eat here again, just make sure you are all over your meal when it arrives to ensure its all there. read more

Now in a much more central spot, this quirky bar/café is packed full of punch and metropolitan charm. The lights masked by draped maroon fabric on the ceiling creates a warm, inviting mood, while the gig posters that line the exposed brick walls tie in perfectly with the bohemian nature of the surrounding seaside suburb. Pre-loved couches provide comfortable seating while retro gaming consoles like Pac man and Space Invaders provide not only the perfect table arrangement, but also the perfect friendly challenge over a pint. Timber tables and bench seats outside on the footpath marry with the rustic interior, while warmth is provided by freestanding outdoor heaters. As many urban restaurants do, Iddy Biddy bar boasts daily specials on pastas, parma's and pies (the veggie pie was devine!) plus $12 Big Brekky's on weekends. Nice little place just off Acland Street - has the quirkiness of the Acland strip, but is a little quieter so you can actually get a seat for a weekend lunch. It is a cool little place but some of the inside tables don't have enough room to have a roomie enough meal. The menu covers are just old books which I found pretty cool, however the wife thought someone left some kids books on our table, and was confused why I was reading them. One thing that does get me goat is when I order a coke zero, then get a diet coke without any warning. To all waiters & waitresses out there: THEY ARE DIFFERENT DRINKS!!! TELL ME IF YOU DONT SELL COKE ZERO!!!! I DONT REALLY LIKE DIET COKE!!!! The menu was pretty large & had a big variety of foods. Going with my brother, sister in law & their kids, I could really check out what the menu was like. We started off with the garlic bread. It was friggin awesome. A place that knows how to do it really well. Just thinking about it now is making me hungry. I had the Beef Brisket burger. The side of chips on the side didn't taste cooked enough. When picking up the burger, I swear that nearly half a cup of juice squeezed out of the inside of the burger. Juicy burger great, juicy plate WRONG! When the juice comes out onto the plate, where am I meant to put my burger??? The burger bun ended up getting too soggy and putting me off my food. As I was a local, Iddy Biddy was a constant hangout spot for my friends and I. Breakfast (Corn Fritters are bomb) Lunch (Quinoa salad) Dinner (Veggie Risotto or Burger, some personal picks), it's all good. The menu is very big but not overwhelming. Iddy Biddy bar not so Iddy Biddy prices. We had the misfortune to try this place for breakfast and were not at all impressed. They have a sign on the window near their front door enticing customers with; BIG BREAKFAST $13 The big breakfast turned out to be the sort of greasy fare you would expect in a BP roadhouse with deep fried Birdseye hash browns and a cheap BBQ sausage. Scrabbled eggs were way overcooked, dry, and unappetising. We noticed that other customers were scrapping inedible slop to one side of their plate and grimacing with displeasure at the food that was served to them. The worst sin of all was when the bill was provided they charged us $18 for the breakfast instead of $13 as was advertised at their front door, when questioned we were told the $13 only applied to weekends but the sign said nothing of the sort. As locals we find this type of 'bait' false advertising completely unacceptable in St Kilda. Three coffees were charged at an inexplicable amount that was not divisible by 3 so it seemed as if they were just making the prices up. The management of Iddy should ensure that they do not advertise a something that they don't intend on honouring, a backpacker might feel annoyed and ripped off but a local might pursue a complaint under the fair trading act. The decor is intended to be quirky and retro but unfortunately it looks more like the place has been furnished with roadside rubbish collection cast off's. Furniture is dirty and smelly and we changed seats because where we were sitting smelled of dogs urine on the chairs which were filthy dirty. St kilda has grown, matured and moved on from these types of venues there are a lot better places on offer with clean furniture, serving good food and at better prices that are honest to their advertising. Cosy and warm by the fire, this place is great when its cold out. The haloumi bagel was so good I was back in the next week to get it again. Bagels are a personal favourite of mine. I also like the general vibe of the place, menus made out of old children's books and lots of different areas to find where you want to be.
