Today was the first time I had ever been to Ideal Eyes on Burlingame Ave. - and it was the best eye exam experience I've ever had... I am not exaggerating!! The location is perfect, the shop itself is clean and inviting and the receptionist and Dr. Gloria Surh are wonderful. The best part, which I have never experienced before, was one doctor working with one patient. There was no line, there was no waiting, it was wonderful. Dr. Surh listened to what I wanted and we went from there! I left feeling that I got exactly what I asked for and needed for my eyes. On top of all that, I was in and out in 30 minutes (for a full exam and prescription fitting not including dilation) and never felt like I was rushed at all. This will definitely be my eye doctor going forward and I will recommend her to everyone I can!! read more

I've been here before for a pair of glasses but after my visit today morning I know why this place gets 5 star reviews. I also felt compelled to write a review. I made an appointment and went in for an overdue eye exam. Met Dr. Gloria who immediately made me feel at ease. I've been wearing glasses my entire life (30+ years) and have had countless eye exams during that time. There are a few things that make an eye exam stressful - * That puff of air in your eye... fortunately, there was none of that. * The dilation... instead, she used a machine (that I haven't seen anywhere before) to capture high resolution images of the insides of the eye. Since there was nothing concerning, I got a free pass on the dilation this time around. * The bright light that accompanies an up-close eye exam - it wasn't any worse than my previous experiences. * And finally multiple iterations of 'is this better or the previous one' to arrive at the prescription. FWIW, I'm near sighted in one eye and far sighted in the other which makes it a little challenging to get a prescription that works well. This part was almost fun. The thing that really impressed me though was that she answered all my questions; Could I get contacts ? Should I ? Could I get LASIK/PRK ? I ask these questions during every eye exam because technology keeps changing and you never know when something might become feasible. She explained clearly to me WHY I would be a poor candidate for LASIK/PRK - While every optometrist over the years has told me the same thing, nobody had bothered to explain why and that makes all the difference in the world ! Honestly, I have never been to a better eye place before. I have had trauma in my eye and so I go to the eye doctor a lot (three to four times a year!), this was by far the greatest experience I have ever had. Gloria was so helpful, warm and genuine. She made me feel comfortable and was completely open to me just using old frames with new lenses. Her place is very clean, but did not have the look or feel of a doctor's office! Today was the first time I walked into Ideal Eyes Optometry, let me start off by saying the space is breathtaking. It is airy, elegant, and their choice of brands for glasses/sunglasses is very tasteful. I came in asking their receptionist about their pricing for an eye exam without insurance since I was in need of one ASAP. She told me their pricing and I asked how far out her schedule was to set up an appointment for myself. SAME DAY! She was able to take me in that same day, conveniently during my lunch break (since I work close by). Only 30mins for an eye exam and about 3mins to fill out new patient papers. The receptionist was so helpful, I came in thinking I did not have the insurance to cover any optical treatments, but she went ahead and looked it up for me anyways, made a phone call, and turns out I was fully covered + benefits. I was truly taken back how caring she was, usually someone wouldn't bother for the trouble and charge me for the full treatment for their own benefit but not this place. What a humble staff. I've been given the wrong prescription three times by three different doctors so I knew I had to go to a more reputable optometry, and I have found them. Dr. Gloria Surh is the savior for my eyes! I have never had a more informative, knowledgable, and kind optometrist who actually cares about your health and overall well-being for your eyes! I did not feel rushed or pressured, she was easy to talk to and did all the tests she could to make sure I had the right prescription this time. I am a modest young adult who can't exactly break the bank for these necessities, and Ideal Eyes Optometry has really solved all of these problems for myself. First and foremost - NO EYE PUFFER MACHINE! How could you not love this place?? I don't know what those machines do but Dr. Gloria doesn't subject her clients to that awful thing! Sometimes appointments run over and one must wait a little bit to be seen but I am always greeted warmly and treated excellently. Not only because they are a small female run business and are kind, thoughtful, friendly, and responsive with excellent customer service, but Dr. Gloria Surh has made subtle changes to my prescription that have actually strengthened by vision. She is always tweaking things to make sure that my correction is not too strong or weak .. always finding that nice sweet spot. Came her for a glasses exam. She seemed to be extremely unreliable - did a series of haphazard exams and came up with a prescription. I noted that it seemed way too strong so she randomly changed it at the end without verifying it. The prescription gives me a headache and I am going to have to get another pair of glasses . Also she did an unnecessary retinal exam (I am young without any risk factors to warrant this). I only found out when she gave me the bill at the end. Would avoid this place at all costs, they are focused first and foremost on making money . Do not trust the optometrists clinical skills. read more

Great experience. My wife and I stumbled upon this place after lunch one day. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. The store is really nice too. We scheduled a time to get our eyes checked. The exams went smooth. Dr Surh was fun to talk with which also made it a great experience. I had to order some replacement lenses. The company they ordered from got back logged which caused a delay. Ever wanted to hang out at your optometrist's office all day? Yeah, me neither. Until now! This place is THE. BEST. My old place closed, so I had to find a new spot. I arrived for my annual eye exam - with my relatively new baby and wet hair (I had forgotten about the appointment :-| ) - and was relieved to receive the friendliest of welcomes. The place is adorable - front of house is impeccably decorated and their inventory of frames is outstanding; back of house is a clean, peaceful eye exam area with what felt like the most up-to-date equipment. The doctor was great, had a thorough and efficient eye exam. And then she and the gal up front (who are both more fashionable than I will ever be) helped me find some frames. I have been getting my eyes looked at for over 30 years and this was by far the best experience that I have had! My last optometrist had told me that without surgery my astigmatism was likely to just worsen and that the best I could do was just deal with it. Dr Surh listened to this and promptly pulled out a bunch of lenses and a pair of frames that looked like something Frankenstein would wear and started to switch lenses in and out. Each time she made me walk around the store to see how the changes would effect my everyday vision. It worked, I haven't got the glasses yet but that is the clearest I have seen out of that eye in 10 years! Her attitude and willingness to listen are why I *will* be able to see better than I have in years. I had the best experience with Dr.Surh she was amazing. I ordered a pair of glasses they worked with me on getting the ones I fell in love with. They made it affordable. I also ordered contacts and she continued to work with me until I got the prescription that worked the best for me.
