If I can give it no stars I would. Over the last 20 plus years of me moving to this neighborhood, this store has gotten extremely rude and racist. They do not offer tap pay that goes with your credit card. They only do debit . They only speak Spanish, and refuse to talk to you in English . They follow all of the black customers around as if they are stealing , and they make no secret about to. The groceries are overpriced and not fresh, take your money and your business elsewhere. I went to pay this morning with my tap pay and was told in Spanish that I need a pin, most MAJOR credit cards don't come with a pin . She laughed and told me well idk what to tell you. The workers and management at this store are incredibly rude. My experience felt entirely racially motivated. The moment I walked in, I was stared down, and the older manager continuously circled me while I was waiting in the checkout line. First of all, most of the reviews on here are people who've recently moved to Bedstuy and those people are usually white people. I don't know what people expect from a local grocery store. You want a five star, friendly and engaging experience? Ok, there's Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. And the whole "these people are racist because they're only nice to spanish speakers" really? Are you really throwing that card because you feel so threatened by someone speaking in their own language you want to call them racist? Most ignorant thing I've ever read in my life. I'm not surprised. All of these new people expect you to welcome them with big open welcoming arms and sorry but no. I've only had a few instances where things are incorrectly ringed up, you tell them and they fix it. Get over it. Also everyone who cares about what type of meat and produce they put in your body, you typically just don't buy things like this at a average supermarket. Bingo! They are always nice. But if you go in the store with an attitude like your stuff don't stink, well ... Oh and anyone who goes into a store 10-15 min closing is ridiculous. This is probably one of the better appointed grocery stores in Bed Stuy, which is not saying too much but they have a very nice vegetable selection and a good beer selection. There's a few organic and natural options but not a lot. They lose a full star for hours though. As other people have complained, they stop letting people into the store a full half hour before the posted close time. If you're thinking you'll run and grab some milk in their last fifteen minutes, don't even try it. And then in general you get the general customer service indifference. read more

I hope my review can give a better idea of the shopping here since most are about the store hours. The options in the area are not great so it takes some planning to get good food. Compared to the spot only 2 blocks over on Marcus Garvey/Monroe (rotten city), this store is pretty alright. I've never had issues with the fruits and vegetables like other reviewers. The packaged salad goes bad quickly here but all the fresh fruits/veggies last very well. Do not buy meat here though unless you cook within 1-2 days refrigerated or freeze until ready. I've had a good amount of chicken breast and thighs go to waste very quickly after purchase until I realized the issue. They have a good selection for regular to lightly restrictive diets. If you need everything non-GMO, gluten free, organic and cold pressed then you should explore elsewhere. You can get brands like Bob's Red Mill and 1-2 organic/healthier options of most shelved items. They have a little deli but there's no space for a seafood section or butcher like Food Bazaar on Myrtle/Bway. I've never had service issues, it's just normal. I'm not sure how much interaction is needed as I know these people aren't food experts it's just a job. The hours have never been an issue for me even the one time I went in 30 minutes before closing. If you have Whole Foods money and taste you'll be disappointed. If you have a tighter budget, this a good option for most foods if you use great care with the meats or buy them elsewhere. Still explore nearby markets as this store doesn't earn your loyalty but you'll be just fine eating from here. read more

I've been going here since 2011 and they have made small improvements. Consistent problems include incorrectly priced items, and cashiers not paying attention to the customer but instead engaging in conversation with their coworkers. The produce has improved considerably, although I would like more organic options. They have also included more healthy grains like quinoa. As a convenient option, I will continue to patronize this location until something better comes along. read more

I've lived in this part of bedstuy for 20 something years,but I was raised in bedstuy basically all of my life..I've shopped here pretty often I go back and forth from this one on gates to the one on Lafayette,Today 10/9/2020 I went in here gates Avenue after coming from family dollar down the block,I picked up a few things,sausages,fish,hamburger buns and 2 white onions and 2 boxes of snacks for my son and daughter cosmic brownies and little Debbie oatmeal cakes,once I finished I went to the register,gave the young lady my reusable bag to pack the stuff I picked up from here to place in my bag,so when she started packing them she noticed I had other items inside and ask me was these things mine,I gave her a strange look and said that's my bag,then she pointed to the two boxes of Cereal I had in the bag and said are these yours I said yes so she gave me a strange look and proceeded to say something to the gentlemen who was standing in front in spanish and he walked over and look in my bag,so I say to her you think I'm going to pay for these items that I gave you and steal these boxes of cereal, I said to her don't be ignorant no one gives you bags so whatever I buy from another store has to go in this bag,she immediately thought I had stolen the boxes of Cereal,I can't stand that,they always pointing fingers at the costumers who have kept them in business for years,but won't say anything to the new people who have just moved in this neighborhood,and I have seen plenty of times where they have came in that store with stuff in their bag and they pack their bags without any questions ask...it makes me sick to my stomach to be treated this way...and I have never ever been a problem ever in that store and gave them plenty of my business and they act this way towards me... read more

I had seen and now personally witness the discourtesy. There is a huge sign with the hours of operation. It states they close at 9pm weekdays (will try to upload a pic of it). I arrive at 8:50pm and someone is guarding the door saying they are closed. I ask what time they closed. Someone else says 8:40pm. I say why do you have a sign that says 9pm. Now they act like they do not understand English and wave me off. I will try to address this with a manager at a later time. read more

I live down the block from Ideal market and am a regular customer. They are price gouging their meat such as charging $9.99 for a pound of bacon and $7.99 for a bag of oranges. Their employees are not friendly at all. No"Good morning or "thank you"from most of them and if you're in there often I would at least expect a smile! The female manager is very pleasant and the young male manager is ok but the employees need some workshops on courtesy. If you're not Hispanic you're totally ignored. When I go in there and hip hop is playing over the sound system, the female manager will change it but shouldn't the music be pleasant and not offensive to the customers? Their employees should all be wearing masks to protect themselves and others from this virus. They are taking advantage of this crisis that we are going through with Covid 19 by raising the prices and it's nothing but greed. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would, first of all the cashiers are rude...It says the place closes at 7 on Sundays, I arrive at 645 and I see one of the workers guarding the door so no one can get in. When I approach I am told I can't enter even though they close 15 minutes later and I just saw the 4 white guys walk in not a minute before me. They also treat black people like shit at this store when that is 50% of the customers I see in here, I used to buy ALL of my groceries from here, I won't be buying anything else from this horrible excuse for a business. So I come here every time I'm in town and every time I come it's always an issue 6:45 Sunday evening and they won't let you in really change your hour of operations in retail if they close at 7. The door should close at 7. I can buy a lot of merchandise in 15 minutes but there are times I only need 1 item and it doesn't take 15 minutes either. I was in here the other day about 30 minutes prior to close and an elderly coupon was about to get on line with a shopping carriage full of merchandise. Like other people said, they will not let you in even if there is still 25 mins before the store is closed. But my major issue is the quality of the food. It is NOT fresh. I bought fruits for more than 4 times, and the fruits was spoiled badly everytime. Today i bought a whole water melon and it is SPOILED...AGAIN..... I felt so sad laying on the couch. I finally give up my hope of buy fruits from there. The meat are usually spoiled too. I stopped buying meat or other fresh stuff too. This is a decent grocery store but the fact that they have stopped me from coming in 25 minutes before they close is ridiculous. In my job we close at 8. If someone walks in at 759 and decides to stay there for an hour then so be it, that's how business works. Their management needs to understand how this works. I just moved to this area,in previous area I shop at Ideal. However since I found this store I shop most of the times. I happen to purchase some Almond Nuts two Saturdays age, did not use then I now happen to use it today and the nuts are not good I called the store and was speaking to the Manager about what happen I told him I cannot find the receipt, I purchased it cash, I know that it could be returned or exchange for something else. He refused to negotiate, so I was explaining to him that if is food and it could be returned he hang up the phone. I tried speaking to and other clerk who said that she is second to him name Christian, she too hang up the phone. I called back several times and they keep hanging up and putting the phone down not to answer.
