There is a small sushi counter along with a fridge of cold drinks and a flower stand on the street level entrance, Elevators and escalators bring you down to the actual store. Very well organized, very clean, aisles and aisles of food and grocery items, meat and seafood counters, fresh produce, and more. Weekly specials going on with sales. I was able to purchase a few things to bring home for snacking on the holiday weekend. Easy checkout with self service kiosks. read more

Massive selection of food and drinks!! Love the smart cart they have as it automatically tells you of special offers. Also seems to have a selection of British chips and sweets which is pretty exciting. Also most recently, I saw TVs!! Both in person and self check out options are available. In my search for the best grocery store rotisserie chicken, Fairway's $9.99 Latin seasoned tissi flooded my comments. I was surprised how much support they had for only having 4 locations, all of which are in NYC... but now I get it. This bird was SENSATIONAL. I was actually inspired. When I started on this journey, I didn't really think there would be a huge difference between most grocery store chickens. I thought some would be incrementally better than others, but I thought I'd do like 10 different ones and call it a day. I couldn't have been more wrong. Fairways chicken was a "there are levels to this" performance. This is a niche reference most of you won't get, but it was like watching Anderson Silva absolutely destroy Forrest Griffin back in UFC 101. Forrest Griffin reflected on this experience when he said "You know what happened? I tried to punch him and he literally moved his head out of the way and looked at me like 'did you really think you were going to hit me?' and then he punched me. I felt like some kid trying to wrestle with his dad." That's how these other grocery stores must feel shooting a head up against this Fairway Latin seasoned tissi. The breast was PERFECTLY tender, I didn't need water at all. Skin was perfect. The seasoning was delectable, and the leg followed suit. This is just a complete, well rounded bird. Fairway still has excellent customer service and the best prices for groceries. I get items here that are not sold elsewhere. They have sections for each type of food, coffee, fresh meat and fish, olive bar, bakery and on and on. I'm recommending Fairway again this year. I'm also going to start checking the app for coupons and downloading them to my new rewards account. My advice is to get to the nearest Fairway early in the morning! No matter which location I shop it's always busy. I like this location as well as the one in my neighborhood. read more

This Fairway has the best coffee department in New York City. It is clean, well organized, and it has a wide selection of coffees from around the world. All this at a reasonable price. The manager, Tamara, provides quick and courteous service with a smile. She provides assistance in selecting the best coffee for my needs.and in determining the best grind for my processing method. Fairway has fine Gruyère and the aroma wafts around. While their cheeses are varied and both domestic and international ones are available. They carry my favorite yogurt - Valley Shepherd Simply Sheep Milk Yogurt, which I used to buy at Essex Market and then the store closed down. Each section carries a variety of items and the produce section is big in both the organic and regular items. Along with a large variety of fresh fruits. I buy organic chicken here and fresh fish. The body care products are always an attraction for me and when j have time I like to browse to see what I can afford. Today Krystal showed me how to use the computerized shopping carts. This was fascinating. She said that younger customers like to use them but not the elderly. I think it's useful for the personal shoppers who buy for people ordering from Instacart. Next time I plan to do a practice tour with it. If one is a member then the screen shows the special select prices. Service here is nice and there are two elevators, escalators to go up and down and a ladies and gents restroom. The ladies restroom is not always clean or cleaned on a regular basis but it is good that they have one. read more

Remember back in middle and high school when every class and bus always had those degenerate losers who you knew just would never amount to anything? They all got hired by this Fairway location . Not one employee acknowledged me, nor any other customer that I could see. The produce is poor quality, with wilted lettuce and rotten citrus. I found numerous dairy products which were out of date. I also heard 2 employees casually say the "n" word twice to each other while on the busy sales floor. My cashier would have ignored my presence for the entirety of my order had I not said "Oh, I'm fine. Thanks for asking." This place needs to go bankrupt...AGAIN!!! read more

Fairway market is one of the best grocery stores in NYC. Even with the bankruptcy and the shutdown of their locations outside of Manhattan, including Queens and Brooklyn, I still enjoy shopping at their locations in the city. They have weekly sales which generally have good deals. A few notable things at Fairway has to be their dairy department including the Fairway brand grass fed organic milk which always sells at a reasonable price. The bakery items and cheese aisles always have great deals. The meat department is another must stop where the butchers will cater to your needs with the utmost care and priority. If you happen to see Lou at the meat counter, he'll take care of you I'm sure with a smile. Just tell him what you need and give him a few minutes to get it wrapped. This location requires you to descend escalators to shop. If you don't need the shopping cart, go with the basket so you won't need to wait for the elevator to get back to ground level. read more

There's a funky smell as you walk in. Like an "off vegetables" type of smell. Huge selection of items. Prices are ok for the area. But given the smell, I got the overwhelming sense not to buy any meat or other items that could go bad. Customer service is woeful. I felt like I was in a correctional facility. When I was bagging up my items, I asked where the bags were, and the guy working the area just tossed two empty bags at me while mumbling something that I couldn't quite catch. Not good. read more

Once this company was owned by a family. It has since gone through several sales. And along the way, in each instance, in my opinion, it has gotten worse and more expensive. There is much less attention and provision of high-quality foods, whether cheese, fish, meat or bakery. Several examples: They got rid of the butcher, and with it any quality meat, especially steak. Their butchers were once excellent. Butchers are important, if you eat meat and want decent quality. A butcher would cut a steak thick enough that you could cook it to a medium rare with a char or "crust" on it. They had slab bacon, which could either be sliced to order -thicker than anything in a package, or cut by weight. These were signs of a better market. They also reduced the amount of wild caught fish, and nice fish in general. IN the bakery, they once had products from Continental Bakery, including, for example, Italian three-color cookies with the traditional marzipan in them (which is hard to find). Now harder, since Fairway no longer has them. To my mind it's just another overpriced average market now. Very few reasons to shop there. read more

They have literally everything anyone can possibly need in terms of groceries and even daily essentials like toilet paper and paper towels. Impressive fresh coffee and imported cheese selection! I go for fresh baguettes, which are baked in house three times a day three times a day, and most definitely stop by in the evenings if I'm on my way home and it's around 830p for discounted sushi; and on occasion their fried chicken (it's really good!). The latest closing hours when compared to nearby trade joes. Sure, stuff may be expensive matching Manhattan prices, but honestly, pretty much everything goes on sale in their rotating circular, including Haagen dazs pints going for 1.88 a pint, talenti for 2.88 in 2022- it's just a matter of timing and what's on sale for the week. read more

I only come here if I'm in a pinch, or if nearby Trader Joe's doesn't carry the product that I'm looking for, which is rare. Fairway isn't even a great place to go if you're short on time because the lines can get crazy long and don't move all that quickly. What is great about Fairway is that you're bound to find whatever niche grocery item you're looking for, with aisles almost as far as the eye can see. The seafood and meat section is extensive but not at all the freshest. And the prices are, well, about what you'd expect for a grocery store in Manhattan. Incredibly high. If you're looking for a specific item, ducking in and out of this Fairway is fine, but for general trips to the grocery store, I wouldn't make this my regular spot. read more

You just can't beat the selection at this store - they have everything you could think of and more. There was no pricetag on it and I was foolish not to ask at the checkout, but I was too busy bagging my own items. I used to count on your store for good service and fair prices, but I will never buy anything there again. There was no price listed on the lox I bought there yesterday (although the manager swore to me that there was when I called today) and didn't realize just how overpriced it was until today. $35.99 for 12 oz? ARE YOU KIDDING???? It's at least $15 over anywhere else you can buy this Acme brand. Outrageous! They've just lost a really good customer. Stay away. read more

Yolanda was extremely rude on July 16th. An item wasn't ringing up so she had to do a price check. I said the name of the item and she responded with "I can read". After she came back, and told me the price, I changed my mind. It was twice the price I was expecting. I told her that and she just went off, rudely telling me that because she did the price check I now had to buy it. And then she threatened to call the cops because I started filming her. read more

The great thing about Fairway is that you can probably find anything you want here. However, there are so many things in stock that the store probably has hard time organizing things, and thus we're left with jumbled, packed aisles of goods. If you have spare time to explore and discover items, and have patience to wait out the long line to the cashier, you'll be certainly be happy to shop at Fairway. I like looking around the supermarket in hopes of finding something cool, so Fairway is for me. But it's really far from Astoria so I don't get to visit Fairway as often as I want. Like a hybrid of a Whole Foods, a Trader Joe's, & a big supermarket. Good: 1- Wide Selection & includes both cheap (e.g. Salmon) & pricey Caviar, Tripe, Bone Marrow, & good smelly cheeses. 2-Some specialty items like various Jamons. Like the $199 a pound Iberico Jamon, which price reflects the unique porkers in Spain who only eat acorns. Does it taste better & more tender than others...yep! But it is a pricey luxury which is generally almost impossible to find in most of California....nor was I aware of it back in early NYC years. 3-Good selection of various veges & fruits, but you can tell they were picked unripened, & then artificially ripened (e.g. Ethylene Oxide ?) 4-Bread are diverse & have a nice crunch...but they seem to run out of Rye Bread too easily. Bad: 1- Nowhere as good selection nor freshness as in many coastal California stores, especially since they are either grown there, or in nearby Mexico. 2- Does not come anywhere near most of the fresh Farmer's Markets in CA & elsewhere. 3- Staff in general seems underpaid & not too knowledgable. 4-Like a big box store, but big prices. 5- Cheese selection is not diverse enough. In summary, after being spoiled by California fresh food, this place underwhelms me, but I imagine it is great for local denizens...especially after they paid their mortgage on million dollar apartments. Very fresh produce. They have ethnic aisles with Mexican, asian, european, and other products. They have a massive coffee selection with barrels of every kind of whole bean you can imagine. They will advise you on best kind of coffee for you, weigh the beans, grind them at request, etc. and the section smells amazingggg. Also a very large beer and drink selection. One of the best standard beer selections in the city outside of a craft bottle store. Massive meat counter and fish and seafood counters. Fish is usually pretty good. Meat selection is always great. Prices are reasonable. Variety is the best you will find in the city. Both packaged and unpackaged versions of all meats. As well as a separate deli counter for sliced meats, cheeses, and prepared foods. There's a whole fresh pasta section in addition to dry pasta. An olive oil bar. A pickle and olive bar. A dried fruit and nut and nut butter section. A protein bar section. A candy area. A cold beer pick your six pack area. A hot bar for hot prepped foods. Etc. they have it all. They also do free shipping if you spend $100 pr more within approved delivery zones. Which we always take advantage of if we are doing our large semi-monthly shopping trip. This location is far from my current apartment, but very close to my work, so I often go stock up on non-perishable items. The store is huge, with basically everything you can possibly need. My only complains are that they could have more organic products for produce, and prices tend to be too high (especially when compared to the nearby Trader Joe's). I still use it for some items I can't find at Trader Joe's (or else), but most of my grocery shopping happens elsewhere. read more

The fact they are still open with normal working hours and normal working conditions deserves the highest praise. The employees are doing their best during the pandemic, and have been more than helpful and kind, especially the staff working the fish and bread stations. People who are complaining about menial things don't understand how lucky they are that grocery stores are still open. Some grocery stores are now closing because of insufficient, sick staff and delivery services in NYC are backed up.
