Brian Flanigan bragged about what a great painter he is. We hired him to completely gut, paint,…read moreinstall flooring, and a new vanity with under mount sink, and a new medicine cabinet in a 5 x 8, half bathroom, upstairs.
Right off, he says, "I'm not pulling up old floor." It's a 5 x 8 bathroom! Had he pulled it, the flooring would be level with the hardwood flooring we have restored in the hallway outside the bathroom. Now, we have just enough "lip" to trip over.
The paint was LOWE'S BRAND, eggshell, and it is NOT recommended for bathrooms. It left streaks, so he came back and repainted the entire bathroom. Problem is, He was rushing because he was juggling many jobs even though we contracted with him July 31, 2012, to come September 15, 2012. SIX weeks into the job, and we have no idea when he is coming or going. Too many jobs, led to sloppy work, anxiety, and frustration. He went well over the deadline, and the threshold ordered, took over a month to receive. Everything we were asked to purchase, was there on day one.
The "sandy beach" (color) on the wall, has white paint from the baseboard smeared up the wall. There is a stream of caulk-like white, that seems to be used to create the line between wall and baseboard paint. Problem with that is, it is March 2013, and it is STILL tacky to the touch! Dust is like a magnet to that area, and it is difficult to keep clean. It is a daily struggle to get the dust off this sticky white streak. There are pencil marks from where he was marking things, that are still there today.
Emails are going to him with no response. He over books jobs, and then says he is coming and at the last minute, his loyalty will go with the highest money maker at the time. He called many mornings at 8:30AM, to say he was not coming. He would never call to say any time, and we were not leaving the keys for him to come as he pleased. We thought we were "the job" beginning the middle of September 2012. We were one of many, it turns out.
He is suppose to be a professional.
The pictures speak for themselves.
UPDATE ( and its not a good one)
The "shaker" vanity in the downstairs bathroom, is the worst..The sides of the cheap crap, cabinets he uses, is SPLITTING from the floor up. Its never touched because it is on the SIDE. 2 years later and the bathroom needs a total GUT JOB.
ITS VENEER, not even real wood! What a puke of a "handy-man".
We were not asking him to low-ball the quality of work. WHY use sub-standard product when you show the cost on the bill to the homeowner. I have no issue paying for real wood. All my furniture is antique or custom made at Kloiter Farms.
(SEE ADDED PHOTO ABOVE)
The BLACK "granite"?? is impossible to keep clean, which is why we ordered "ICE BLUE", to begin with.
He walks in with a hunk of UGLY CHEAPO, black, granite-"like" stone, that he must have found on the side of the road. BLACK is not even close to ICE BLUE!
I mean what contractor just changes out colors, with no regard for what we ASKED FOR?
I want to rip it out and throw it on his lawn, I am so angry with this puke.
He does noting when I say to him, that is NOT WHAT WE ORDERED.
The grout used in the bathtub was NOT glazed, so now, it turned yellow! It looks worse then before he came....but, he also announced on his way out the door, that "there is MOLD behind your shower wall." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
HE ALERTS US TO MOLD, AFTER he tiles the wall? Is that not a "code" violation to not address MOLD to the homeowner? This is just a tragic case of stupidness.
Brian Flanigan, uses the cheapest everything. I am so glad I called and told him we were choosing the vanity for the upstairs bathroom, because that one is fine. The porcelain tile are fabulous, (MY choice) although there are gaps in between a couple tiles.
Cheap LOWE'S paint, ugly $1.50 tiles (only 2 options did he offer)
We went to another TILE store in Hartford, and picked a lovely porcelain tile. He whined about that because he thought I would go along with the vomit colored VINYL squares he shoved at me. Talk about UGLY. Anyone would be on their hands and knees, trying to wipe it because it looked like vomit, literally.
He thinks he is a designer......nope.
No integrity, character, quality, substance, nor pride, goes into his work.
