I hired this pro thru a home improvement store referral for 5 projects. Only 2 were completed due to the technicians unprofessional, argumentative and rude attitude. I had a bedroom painted and tile replaced in the shower and bathroom painted. The tile work looks pretty good minus grout missing between one of the tiles. The paint job in the bathroom was beyond sloppy. Paint splashed on light switch covers, door knobs, toilet bowl tank, etc.(photos attached) Only one coat of paint on the walls which was painted unevenly. Ceiling was patched but not painted. Now I have to hire someone else to fix the mess left behind and projects not completed. read more

I asked for a quote on June 4. Today is June 14. They have lied to me for 10 days. No direct communication, they just sent phone messages every 2-3 days promising they will send a quote. I even sent pictures of the job. Today they changed tactic, they said they want to come in person to see the job. I said it's ok. Then they said they will charge $200 to come and see in person. I told them I am not paying for that, and they lost interest. This is not a serious company, there are no people to talk to, no office to get calls, they rely on some automated robot and play around with people's time. Careful when you hire these people (or whatever they are, I never talked to a person myself). UPDATE: Following the reply of the owner I am surprised of one thing. These people are a small team, they are scrambling to keep up with work, they do not talk with customers on the phone for how much busy they are, they leave customers like me waiting 10 days for a quote, and yet they reply to online reviews within 2 hours. Alfonso, if you were a serious businessman, you would have hired someone to take calls and coordinate the work. But you don't know how to run a business and want to get customers paying $200 just to give them a quote. In my book, this is a scam. read more

UPDATE: Rating changed from 2 to 4 stars. iFixit reached out to me after this review and has been very proactive in making things right. Original Review: This review is quite delayed as I knew I was a little too emotional at first. I'm not expecting any reparations but given the high rating I used to choose this company I felt I should share so others can ask the right questions in the future. I did not give iFixit the opportunity to correct the issues so please take this with a grain of salt - perhaps they would have sent someone else out to correct the work but honestly I was exhausted and did not want anyone else in my house at the time. I hired iFixit Handman Services in Sep 2017 to install a kitchen faucet, replace a garbage disposal as well as a bathroom faucet. These were tasks I felt I could probably do myself with the help of youtube but I decided to hire a handyman out of an abundance of caution. Alfonso mentioned that I would need to have a GFCI outlet installed for the new garbage disposal to meet code and that they could do that. First the good: The communication prior to the appointment was great, Christine is fantastic. The handyman was on time (I've forgotten his name unfortunately but it was not the owner who seems to have glowing reviews. Hopefully iFixit can look up my appointment and handle appropriately). The hourly rates were reasonable and as described. The not-so-good: It turned out that the company that installed my granite vanity top did not drill the holes correctly which is not iFixit's problem. My problem was the handyman had "completed" all other work in about 45 mins and wanted to leave the second any trouble came up rather than try to trouble shoot. Given I was paying a 3 hour minimum this is not cool. I had to awkwardly call the office while he was standing next to me to confirm that he could go to home depot and try to get another faucet to fit the holes as-is. He eventually went begrudgingly and I offered to go with to make sure I was happy with the choice and he told me not to go. He was gone about an hour and came back to report that there weren't any faucets that would fit my set up (according to my internet search - there was 1 in stock). The bad: The GFCI outlet was not installed for the garbage disposal, he just hooked up the existing hard line to the garbage disposal which is no longer to code. Kitchen faucet was a sleek single handle pull down and the counter top was drilled for it to be installed as such. The box includes a mounting plate for cases where existing holes may need to be covered up and he installed that piece without consulting me (I was available onsite the entire time). So I ended up undoing all of that work and reinstalling it myself. I ended up installing the bathroom faucet myself after the granite was corrected. The really bad: The reason I'm writing this long-winded review so late is because I just sold the property about 9 mo later and after noticing a leak at the garbage disposal the night before settlement (hello panic!) I discovered that it had been installed with only 2 of the 3 mounting screws - it was barely hanging on to the sink and had likely been holding on for the previous 9 mo with plumbers putty! So I got to fix that myself too! So in the end, I paid for 3 hours of work, dealt with a miserable handyman, and ended up re-doing ALL of the work myself. read more

I used this company to replace my flooring on the first floor and remodel my entire bathroom. I moved out of my home because the entire first floor needed to be empty. During the 2 week process I came home to inspect my home. This group of men used my kitchen as if it was their own. Leaving dirty dishes in the sink. Half eaten food left on the counters. Trash and food waist thrown in my driveway. Not only was there the disrespect to my home, they took the extra flooring and tiles back to Home Depot and returned it to get the money for themselves. I want you to know that they came into my home before the job to take measurements and told me what I would need to buy for supplies. I was taken advantage of from the beginning. 15 boxes of l vinyl flooring at $35 a box. And 18 boxes of tile. I did speak with the owner and was told they used everything. I went to Home Depot in fairless hills and saw the boxes with my last name and house number on it. Shame they have to steal from their customers. read more

SUMMARY They might do "good handyman work" (we didn't hire them). They are Very Expensive ($70 / hr), far more than a master carpenter, or licensed electrician / plumber! DETAIL I had reached out to iFixit primarily due to the number of good reviews they had, without really looking at the details. Ok so my bad on that account. I sent them a very detailed description of my project - building a custom marble shower including backerboard, waterproofing, and setting tile. What I got back was mostly a form letter response and detailed their rates and minimum charges. It seems fair to share this so that others understand how expensive this handyman service is. Here's a partial quote: "We work on an hourly basis. Our rates are $70.00 per hour with a 3 hour min ($210.00) per handyman. So, ... the minimum charge will be $210. ... If a helper is required, the minimum hourly rate is $110, and minimum visit rate is $330." Wow?! $70 an hour is a Day Rate of $560! (about $135,000 / year). After getting their response, I decided to read through their reviews to see what kind of tile and bathroom work they have done for other people. If they were really that good, I might be able to justify say $2200 for 4 days work. But ... there's no mention on yelp or their own site about tile work ... uh oh. Ok ... so they probably do "good handyman work" and the owner is clearly charming. Please note that they charge a LOT MORE than my master Carpenter, licensed Electrician or licensed Plumber! It is easy to get a good tradesman for $250-300 a day. I wish they had simply responded that they don't install showers or do tile work and can't handle my job. read more

Granted, Alfonso is polite when it comes to selling services. The execution however was poor and what was supposed to be a $400 job, in actuality cost me that plus $10,000 for a new floor and another $800 for a new door + install. Alfonso's install was shotty at best. (Alfonso assured me that he had done door installs before) The new PROFESSIONAL installer that came to fix the poor install mentioned iFixits install was not proper by any means. It led to leaks at the threshold which allowed rainwater to penetrate my hardwood floors requiring a brand new install of that rooms flooring. Here's the experience with Alfonso and iFixit: Consultation: Alfonso had inspected the existing door entry, the door and explained how he'd install, assuring me that he's done door installs before having trained with a master carpenter. I provided the instruction booklet so he could review the procedure prior to install day, and purchase the needed materials. Install Day To my surprise Alfonso arrived without the install materials. He mentioned he'd go to Home Depot to pick up materials. This took over 1.5 hours. The Home Depot on 12th St is 5 mins away. After inspecting the receipts, I noticed both are from the 12th St store. He had mentioned to me that it took so long because he needed to go to the store on Rt 440 (20 mins away). He was dishonest, as the receipt doesn't show that. He also charged me for that time and for tools that are not billable - knifes, caulk guns etc, which he kept. Install Quality He had returned days later to fix the improper install of the door (It would not slide properly). Had the latch been installed as per instructions, and correct materials picked up during that first trip, the improper install could have been avoided from the start. There was damage done to both the interior floors and exterior ledge. There are gouges in the hardwood from when he was working with the handsaw cutting wood. I had looked over after the first time I heard the saw gouge the wood, only to see it happen a second time. After he left, I saw the damage to the wood which I pointed out to him in the 2nd visit and asked for a fix. It wasn't fixed. On the 2nd visit, his partner began using a hand saw to cut metal on my ledge, which scratched up the ledge significantly. I had noticed this and came out to ask him to saw on a protected area instead. These are expensive, newly installed metal casings that went in a year ago. The damage that was done has gone on to rust the ledge. Overall, the caulking was sloppy and color did not match. There was no casing installed which led to gaps in the install allowing bugs in. There were metal shard all over the interior floor which were stepped on and scratched the floor. Most importantly, Alfonso removed the saddle threshold and improperly hacked together a new one over the existing. The professional installer mentioned that should have never been done. This eventually led to rainwater seeping through, ultimately causing hardwood floor damage and the need for a new door install, a clean one. I've since contacted Alfonso as he offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee. He has been unresponsive and not standing behind it. Disappointing. He's a nice guy. But in the end, you get what you pay for. In this case, a simple door install costs me over $10,000 and a lot of hassle. Steer clear, and go with the pros. read more

Then I asked them to come back to hang five pictures in our conference room - the most important aspect is that they be hung level and super evenly-spaced. They started at 12 and were done at 12:20... and again they refused to charge us! How would my boyfriend and I describe Afonso, "AMAZING!" I am pretty handy myself and can put a furniture together or fix things around the house. However, we have a unique handyman's job for our apartment. Our floors are very uneven and we're talking about significant leveling of a queen size bed and furnitures. And it's not just a 1/4", 1/2", or an 1" inch of adjustment. We took our chance with Afonso. We spoke to a few other handyman who were referred to us by family and friends and we were given the answer "the extensions will not exactly match your furniture" which is in other terms, it will look like crap. Based on other reviews, I'm sure these guys are good at a lot of general repairs, but I cannot recommend them for any even moderately complicated plumbing job. I had a leaky valve for the water supply to my toilet. They came over, went out again for 2 hours looking for the replacement part, came back without it, then went out again for another hour before returning with what turned out to be the wrong valve (my house water was off all this time, of course). They left after installing a valve for a faucet water supply which did not fit the valve in the toilet tank, so I had to hire a real plumber to do the job all over again (which took about 15 minutes). On the positive side, I received a full refund, which was appropriate, as all the work they had done had to be done over. I also got harangued by a woman at the headquarters (the boss?), who suggested that their failure to install the right part was somehow my fault. read more
