Finding Josie was a true answer to our prayers. She ensured that we entered the labor process with all of our questions answered, including those we didn't think to ask! She explained all of our options to us with words we could understand, empowered us to make decisions we felt confident in and ensured that we kept an open mind to the aspects of birth that are outside of our own control. I ended up needing an induction, something I was hoping to avoid. Unfortunately, the specific circumstances of my labor required us to change our minds on many aspects of our birth plan. I was so grateful that Josie had helped to educate us on our choices so that we understood what would happen differently. Above all, I was so glad that she helped to foster that open mindset so we could embrace the choices that were in the best interest of everyone - healthy baby! My labor brought up several challenging moments that I needed to work through as a survivor, and Josie was right there with us, supporting both of us in the effort to keep my mind at ease. We were hesitant, at first, to select a doula so new to the field, but I could not be more satisfied with the care we received. We chose Josie due to her knowledge on trauma, and I am so glad that we did. We went into the labor room with a beautiful plan. Despite the fact that our babies needs changed that plan notably, we ended up with a truly validating experience.

Two years in a row now this place has issues with the flu shots. I brought my daughter in on…read more8/19/19 for a 8 year old check up. I asked about the flu shot and they didn't have them in, but to keep checking up on it. I knew what happened last year so I decided to just go to Meijers. Crazy how Meijers has the flu shots, but not a pediatricians office! I was able to get my 8 and 5 year old flu shots at Meijers. I had an appointment with my doctor and asked if my 3 year old could get the flu shot. He could, but he wasn't a patient at their practice. So, I called here today 9/6/19 to see if they had them in yet. She said they do not have the flu clinic yet, but they are giving it to patients that are already in the office or are coming in with an illness. I said I was there two weeks ago and wasn't given on and she said the shots are sporadic. So, if you have the shots in right now, its should be first come, first serve. You shouldn't be denying a kid a flu shot! I'm considering taking my 3 kids to a different pediatricians office

I really wanted to have…read morea special pregnancy and birthing experience -- I firmly believe that childbirth is not a sickness, and that hospital births take a lot away from this very amazing time. I was unhappy with U of M, and decided to try New Moon Midwifery, whose office is in the building where I was taking my holistic childbirth classes. I could not have possibly had a better pregnancy and birthing experience. I worked with Amanda and Merrilynne, and a few apprentices. My pre-natal care was very loving and one-on-one. I did not feel like a number. I had at-home visits. They answered all my questions and concerns and then some. I originally planned to have a waterbirth, but my son was born too quickly (within three hours) so there was no time! There was some overlap in my health care between U of M and New Moon. I could really tell the difference in attitudes. With New Moon I was really given a good view from both sides -- I wasn't just given the worst-case-scenario treatment. For instance, when I tested positive for Group B strep and U of M said that I would automatically have to go on anti-biotics in the hospital, New Moon sat down with me and went through all of the facts regarding Group B strep and allowed me to make my own decision. Amanda was there when I was in labor and I was so comfortable and felt so safe. Being able to give birth at home with people I trusted and loved made the experience bearable. I also loved vocalizing and not having to do that Lamaze stuff -- I seriously don't know how I could have survived contractions doing Lamaze, the vocalizations I created on my own was a huge coping strategy. I can't begin to tell you how happy my experience was and how good it was for my baby! After I gave birth I took an amazing herbal bath and healed all my wounds quickly, and my son also took these herbal baths and his umbilical cord fell off in only two days! I found out they have Zero dementia training after questioning one of the better still substandard caregivers, and no medical training whatsoever. DO NOT HIRE!! COMPLETE RIPOFF

They refuse to look at the documentation we printed out showing coverages and payments from the insurance company that they were billing us for as well. Will be pursuing legal action for insurance fraud and money due for improper billing

After seeing our first consultant at our house we wanted another opinion so we came here to get some fresh insight from Dr. Hammer about nursing our newborn. Her PA, who coincidentally is also named Hammer, was very helpful and empathetic to my wife's questions. She was sensitive and gentle and asked great questions. Dr. Hammer came in halfway through the appointment and the nurse relayed the situation and my wife's concerns. All in all she was mostly helpful but didn't set my wife at ease. I would say that she may not give you the warm and fuzzies, if you require that temperament from your doctor. That said, I found her helpful and direct which I appreciate. I'd give her 3.5 stars.

Dr. Lisa Hammer was on our list of pediatricians who fit that bill, so we chose to schedule a "Meet the Doctor" with her, which is a session where you can sit with a prospective doctor and do an interview where you can gat a feel for one another. She seems alright in general -- she would probably be a great pediatrician for you if you love hospitals and put all your trust into hospitals without second guessing them. She is willing to compromise with parents regarding antibiotics, but maybe not so much when it comes to vaccinations. Those are both subjects of controversy when it comes to infant health. However, we decided against her because of a comment she made when she found out I was having a homebirth with midwives. It's expected, I suppose. She said, "I'd never put my child at that kind of risk." It is the condescending tone she used that we didn't like. Um, yeah, thanks. Next! My partner explained to her that there are risks with hospital births as well. We were in agree to disagree mode but we decided to take our child elsewhere when he was born. Keep in mind that I am a firm believer of if it ain't broke, then don't try to fix it. I don't like unnecessary interventions.
