Restaurant is closed permanently. Maps shows restaurant is open and it is not. Drove 50 miles to eat here to find it closed.

DELICIOUS! I actually heard about this place from a Reddit post about places to stop on a road trip…read moreacross Texas and I'm so glad I listened! It's home cooked food, calories-not-monitored, but worth every single bite. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but I knew it was going to be good when we saw the parking lot was overflowing into the grass. Luckily there was still an open table inside and we were welcomed by the sweetest staff and our waitress was just as wonderful. So many things looked good on the menu, but I couldn't resist ending this road trip with another taste of chicken fried steak to compare to Mary's (and they can definitely compete because it was AWESOME)! We also tried the chicken fried chicken (delicious), sweet potato casserole (amazing), Mae's potato casserole (tasty), cheese sticks (good), and the hamburger and fries which was obviously delicious enough that my picky daughter almost finished it - which says a LOT! We were very glad that we'd ordered the "smaller portions" for lunch because it meant we could grab a few of the desserts to go to snack on for our final leg of the road trip and keep enjoying at home. We tried the toffee cake (incredible), peanut butter cake (sinfully good), and the coconut pie (very light and creamy)! We also snagged some items to take home with us from their coolers and I can 100% recommend their pork tamales and summer sausage. If you get the chance to stop here, you won't regret it at all! Delicious, great service, and good portions!

The waitress was very friendly, but spread a little thin through all the tables. Menu had something for everyone. We ordered the special, smothered chicken, and it was not special. The shredded cheese they balled on there was barely melted. We ordered a plain burger for my son. The patty was thin and over cooked and bun a little over toasted. I ordered the Philly steak fries and they were good and I would order again. We travel through this area and were hoping it would be a place to eat and rest, but not sure we will make it a priority

Great chicken fried steak at Mary' Café. We watch the show The Daytripper with Chet Garner on TV…read more He did a segment on Mary's Cafe. So, we drove about 2 hours west of Fort Worth. The place is just an old diner in the town of Strawn. We showed up at 1130. They had nice crowd no wait. Sit down and order. We got a small and a medium chicken fried steak. For the sides fries and mash potatoes with a small salad each. The small steak is prefect size for me. But if you are hungry go for medium or the large. The chicken fried steak is made a little different than most. Not the usual type of breading. We really enjoyed the meal all was very good. The steak was tender and great flavor. Fries cook perfect and great for dipping into my gravy. Mary came around and took the order and she also went to each table and made sure you like the food. Very good service from all the staff. We will be back and you should give them a try.

I'm really surprised at how many four and five stars there are. Almost nothing we got had flavor: Queso - literally just cheese with nothing added - no salsa, no jalapeños, no onion - nothing. If you put queso on the menu, I think people expect it to have more than literally melted cheese. Chicken Fried Steak - loved that the breaded parts stuck to the meat and was excited to eat, but again, literally no flavor. We didn't finish it and we didn't take the leftovers. Mashed potatoes - No flavor AGAIN. We were so surprised and disappointed. You can see everyone there busting their tails though. Those women deserve every penny of every tip left for them.

Food came out super fast and we were so happy we stumbled in. Obviously a locals hang out and they do run out of things, as we arrived in the later side of lunch ie cole slaw, but they substituted a salad, which was fine. I would say the catfish was a huge hit and the grilled chicken was juicy and flavorful. I'm kinda weird about hush puppies, they're not my thing. As they can often be dry and under seasoned, but I couldn't stop eating these ones! We'd love to stumble in another time!

You get to talk and catch up on the drive there, have a great meal and relax for a bit, then try not to fall asleep on the drive home. What a perfect evening! DVB is about 20 miles from home. Perfect. They have a nice big dining room with a/c, or step outside when it's not too hot. Two large covered patios, both facing the covered stage for live music on weekends. Yes! Also lots of uncovered picnic tables for looking up at the stars. Check Facebook for music dates and times. Now the food. I've only tried the chicken fried steak, several times, cause I like it! Onion rings were really good. For dessert, definitely the buttermilk bars. I've tried 3 different flavors and all were so good! I talked with the owners when it wasn't quite so busy, and they really enjoy what their doing. Nice people. So, pick a night when there is some live music and come on out to the country. You'll be glad you did. See you there!
