Cotton Patch is exactly what you think it is. A chain restaurant with good food and acceptable prices. It's not one of our usual places, but sometimes they draw you in. They now have a daily special for $9.99, entree and 2 sides. Monday is chicken fry day, Friday was blackened tilapia but that has changed. Sunday was chicken and dumplings, but that has changed. New specials in the pic. They have some great sides! The squash casserole and the broccoli cheese casserole are my favorites! Like I said, good food at an acceptable price. Let's eat! read more

Was passing thru and staying the night and searching for a place and saw on the menu "Jumbo Fried Mushrooms $7.49" and I was hooked! The Chicken Fried steak and two sides for $11.99 also had me heading out of the hotel room to the car and tracking the WAZE to get to The Cotton Patch Cafe asap! I had been to other location in other towns but not here and quite frankly not to one in about 8 years cuz I just haven't been near one. The outside of the restaurant looks the same as I remember. Inside was the same ? But a lot more BOOTHS than I remember other places having but I like booths so that's ok. As I opened the menu, knowing what I wanted the waitress stopped by the table for my drink order, I got sweet tea and put in my appetizer order for fried jumbo mushrooms with white peppered cream gravy instead of the ranch dressing. I KNOW. JUST TRY IT SOMETIME. It's so good with fried mushrooms. Then as I looked at the menu, my eye caught something highlighted in yellow, a 12oz Rib eye for just $19.99 with two sides, grilled to your liking. Hmmm. So o changed t that and ordered it med rare with baked potato and bacon green beans. The mushrooms came out first and were untouchable, they were so fresh and hot. Had to let them Cool just a little, then forked one, dipped it in my hot gravy & took a bite and the crunch on the outside of the tempura like batter coating it was amazing, the firm fresh mushroom inside was perfect, flavorful and juicy. So good. I almost devoured the whole order before my main came. My steak was a very nice size, cooked perfectly to my desired temperature. My baked potato was also perfect. With extra butter and sour cream. The green beans was very good. OH, and I almost forgot, they also have and "add-on" special on the menu: you can add. 4 large shrimp to any grilled entree, for only. $4! You can get them grilled or fried. I got 4 grilled. They were kinda. Cajun seasoned, which I didn't anticipate, but it was tasty. They came served in a separate dish on a bed of rice. There are a lot of changes to their menu. Some old favorites are gone now. But some great new dishes are on it now. Here is a NOTE: They DO still have free dinner rolls for the table but you have to ASK FOR THEM. They won't offer and otherwise they won't bring Them. I was told they were having too much waste and many weren't even eating them but once they are served they have to trash them so if you don't eat them you're good. But if you DO.... Now you know. With all this said I WISH we had a Cotton Patch where we live. In El Paso. We could use some competition for Cracker Barrel and some of those better prices in El Paso!! They do not serve breakfast, they open at 11am for lunch. They start with warm bread and butter. I had the favorite chicken burger, very very good. Im coming back for the meatloaf. Great service from Michael, checked on me and made sure my coffe was hot, thank you Mike. My love hate relationship with CP is currently on an upswing! Two day journey part one; lunch stop Abilene, Texas. Famished from a 7am breakfast in Oak Hill I needed rolls but seriously considered ordering the skillet cornbread too. Digging into my past I drummed up a comparison today. Black Eyed Pea dotted the landscape of Texas and a few surrounding states early 90's till now one last restaurant in DFW. Imagine 26 sides, brown gravy, fried sides available at your disposal. What they really excel at similar to BEP is vegetables. Best bites were was the squash casserole which was remarkably similar to an old friend. Perhaps better prepared than all previous CP visits in various towns. Mashed taters were good too. My Cajun Duo (Fish/Shrimp) tasted as usual while the GF downed the lunch portion chicken fried chicken. When we entered we were greeted by the hostess who immediately sat us at our table. Not too busy when we got here, it took the waitress a minute to get us. Light music playing in the background. She took our drink order and appetizer order. Drinks came and cheese bites came out really fast. The waitress brought the bread to the table. I asked for honey butter for the bread, she offered cinnamon butter I said yes to the cinnamon butter but never got it. We had a fish and shrimp combo, chicken fried steak with corn and baked potato, chicken fried steak with jalapeño gravy on the side , green beans and a baked potato. Food came out pretty fast. Don't order gravy on the side, they short you quantity. The waiter who brought the food did bring another container of jalapeño gravy. Jalapeño gravy had a good flavor, chicken fried steak had a good taste just a little too much grease on the plate. Overall the food was decent. Green beans and corn were cold. Cheese bites were really good. Waitress wasn't the fastest but she did refill my drinks when I asked she was just slow. With the exception of forgetting the cinnamon butter it was a decent experience. I might eat here again but it will probably be a while. We went to eat Veterans Day and they gave veterans a fantastic, delicious, chicken fried steak with two sides! The steak was great, the rolls were yum! The baked potato me and my wife had were some of the best we have had in a while. The fried mushrooms were also very good. Thank you Cotton Patch very grateful for your showing of appreciation. My husband really likes this spot and he wanted to visit since he's back home. SERVICE - Our server was Lacey and she was a sweetheart! She had a little bit of humor so that was nice to see. She was always popping by to make sure we were doing well with our food and drinks. FOOD Complimentary Bread - It came with rolls and corn bread. The rolls were nice and soft. The cornbread had the perfect amount of sweetness to it. Really enjoyed the cornbread! Chicken Fried Steak - My husband got this dish and he liked it a lot. He said he's had chicken fried steak at other restaurants but this one makes it the best. I tried it and it had a lot of flavor. The breading was nice and crunchy. Chicken Tenders - The breading is on the thicker and greasier end but I didn't mind it. The chicken was very moist. I got honey mustard for dipping but also their gravy. My husband told me gravy is the typically dipping sauce here. It wasn't bad. Just a little much for me. Steamed Veggies - The veggies were very tender. It was a nice side to the fried foods. Corn - I was hoping this would be corn on the cobb but it was just corn in a small bowl. Baked Potato - It was a loaded potato and was very flavorful. They didn't skimp on any toppings. The Cotton Patch is an eye appealing venue with a catchy name. Unfortunately the name didn't live up to the hype. My wife ordered a Caesar salad and about half of it was dark brown pieces of romaine lettuce that remained uneaten. The bacon cheese fries were excellent and the highlight of our meal. Both of my kids got chicken tenders and the were way overcooked on the outside. My baked squash was colder than room temperature and all of our macaroni and cheese was extremely dry and flavorless. How do you mess up macaroni and cheese? Maybe we went on a bad day but after driving 6 1/2 hours we were hungry and anything would do. It took a lot to disappoint but this did. Visiting Abilene and went to the restaurant with family stationed there. It was the first time eating there for all of us. We are so glad we gave it a chance. The server who delivered the food was definitely not happy to be there, the waiter was friendly but slow. We ordered a variety of items but anything fried had a less than desirable crust (overly light and too flaky). The country fried brisket was interesting but I wouldn't do it again. The fried pickles were ok but overly salty (even for pickles). The chicken strips were not very crispy and the sauces tasted bottled. My friend and I go here for lunch occasionally and I must say, recently, it has really improved in service, temperature of food and taste! I couldn't have said that a couple of years ago. Hadn't been here for a few years, we used to love it but the last time we came we had some issues, decided to give them another shot and it wasn't a great experience. First there was some confusion between the waitresses on who was supposed to cover our table, after that was resolved we only ended up seeing our waitress twice, once to take our order and then again to bring us our food; when our food finally arrived it was extremely greasy (more than usual) our plates were covered in oil, my husband asked if there was anything they could do about the excessive grease and he was told to soak it up with his napkin...we never saw the waitress again after that. Recently had takeout done by Uber eats. The chicken fried steak fingers were delicious however we were trying to get chicken fried steak but according to Uber it was not available and there is no where on Ubers menu to request extra gravy or request gravy on the side, so still had to call store glad I did found out cheaper to order direct from store and you can get any extras you need. The person at the take out order side was so kind and explained that it is better and easier to order direct from Cotton Patch , their small delivery fee and cheaper menu prices and ability to order exactly what you want made it a very nice experience with Cotton Patch directly. I wasn't really impressed with the tilapia however there are still enough gluten-free options and felt great about the personalized experience will definitely order directly next time read more

We love food and eating at new places. So the sides were 2x broccoli, Mac and cheese, squash and sweet potato fries, which are also a premium side and cost an extra dollar. Yayyy until your fries are cold and limp, boooooo. Whatever they taste alright but not impressed with the scratch quality thus far, wife said Mac and cheese was 'eh' and honestly it looked something out of a middle school cafeteria. Well, my son loved the triple cheeseburger, my daughter loved the patty melt, and my husband devoured his chicken strip basket. Why the lower score? The turkey was super disappointing. It was so covered in pepper that it was inedible. The turkey gravy was also over-peppered (which is weird), so my mashed potatoes and gravy were also inedible. The cornbread was not dry, cubed cornbread, but instead it was mushy and covered in gravy... making it inedible too. Essentially I paid $11 for a small side of squash (which was good). It was a real disappointing experience as the menu says NOTHING about it being peppered turkey & gravy. I would've mentioned it to our server, but she never asked. This place is usually great. I'm just real upset at the price I paid to have to go down the road and get something at Burger King. read more
