So my wife and I tried IHOP for the first time for a lunch that wasn't breakfast items. I had the Jalapeno Jack burger and my wife had the Roast Turkey sandwich. My burger was actually quite juicy and tasty. However, it wasn't nearly as hot as it should have been. Heck, I'd venture to say the burger was actually quite mild. My visit to this restaurant was after the lunch rush. I thought that by stopping by after the busy time of day, service would move rapidly. Wow, was I wrong. I had to wait for our waitress to bring out drinks for about 15 minutes. Once the order was placed we had to wait for another 20 minutes before getting our food. Although the wait was long the food was actually pretty good. I enjoyed the savory crepes with banana and cantaloup (the meal could have been best without the cantaloup). This is easily the worst IHOP I've been too. First, the bathrooms were disgusting. The men's room had a nasty smell emanating from it when I walked in. It looked worse than the smell. I was afraid to touch anything. It then took over half an hour to get our food after ordering. All in all, not a place I would stop again when traveling. Will never go back anymore. We had to seat ourselves. Was there for over 30min without getting helped once. No drink orders were taken at all or anything. Us and one 6+ person group were the only ones there!! so we left. Called 5 minutes after we left and they told me there's only one waitress tonight and that we had to wait so they take care of the other group! We were just a 2 people! Come here whenever we can. Servers are always cheerful and quick. Sometimes they are super busy running around but really no issues. I think only once the food didn't come out how I thought it would be. I ordered the fried chicken. But it was more fried than meat. The meat was dry as well. ROACHES!!! I had dinner at IHOP with my family, which included 2 children, ages 7 & 4. I ordered a dinner salad & when I received it, I found a ALIVE COCKROACH IN MY SALAD, DISGUSTING! I have been watching this place deteriorate for a while. I thought it was under new ownership until one day I saw Andy the owner sitting in one of the booths chatting with another employee. My philosophy is "if the windows are dirty, what does the kitchen look like?" Well on this visit we walked in and the windows are still dirty and the floors, and the ceilings and everything else. We were put in a booth while the server walked away. This booth had syrup on the table top and filthy seats. We stood there for a bit and waited for the server who didn't come back immediately. We decided to reseat ourselves. I moved to the next booth that was a little bit cleaner but we still had to clean of one side of the seat as it had something sticky on it. Server came back and we ordered food and drinks. I got my coffee but never received my glass of water. I drank my coffee half way when I noticed lipstick stain on the lip of the cup. GROSS!!! People of Madera must have low standards rating this place 4+ stars. Just the cleanliness should make it a 2. Every time a come here I also panic because sometimes the ATM/CC machine doesn't work and I rarely carry cash. My last time visiting this place. P.S. At some point I think IHOP Corp should force its operators to reinvest. A modernization of this place would probably do wonders if they could change the cleanliness level. read more

Extremely disappointing. The service is incredibly slow and the food is subpar. Every time I've come(my mother-in-law loves it here for some reason and always chooses this place) the service has been awful but this last time was the worst. I came in the evening with just my daughters, there was maybe 2 other tables with people. It took a bit for my order to be taken but when the sever finally came I ordered a pasta dish with soup and ordered a kids breakfast plate. 30 minutes later and 2 very grumpy kids later I get a semi-hot and bland soup and no apologies for the wait. 15 minutes later I finally get my food at which point I request to have it packaged to go. I finally get a "sorry for the wait" but the damage was done. The food was not great. The service was awful. I will need to convince my MIL to choose another place next time! read more

IHOP is never great food, it's like fast food you sit down for. That said, this one in particular was pretty bad. There were 4 of us for breakfast and the place was relatively slow but getting our server's attention was pretty difficult. Also, everything that came to the table was cold. IHOP has always been a family favorite. Pancakes were my dad's specialty growing up so this place has special memories for me. This particular IHOP location has much faster and friendlier service than others I've been to. That said, I'm kind of sad the way the establishment is going. A stack of 4 harvest grain pancakes that are about the size of the plate that the toast come on costs about $7 (no toppings). Before, I would eat half of my order and take the other half home for breakfast the next day. IHOP is reducing portion sizes in an effort to save money. I an understand seeing as food prices are going up but I would have rather paid an extra dollar just so I could have taken my favorite leftover pancakes home. It's ok though, I'll be going to Batter Up Pancakes from now on. read more

I'm leaving a review again and I still stand by what I said. The food is terrible. Lack in portions, flavor/seasoning. My gawsh just season the food and I'm sure it would be slightly decent!! The service wasn't great either. What really ticked me off from such an unpleasant visit was that they would not honor my coupon for a free meal even though this coupon had been purchased through a coupon book, not a coupon from the newspaper. This location was okay on service. We waited a while before being seated. I assume they were short on workers. The food was good. I ordered the Steak Tips and eggs with Pancakes. It was very good. The hot coco was big, but tasted like chemicals. Our waitress sounded like she was suffering from a cold. Which was not a good sign for our food. But, we survived.
