I think this has to do with the time of year we came in, with several people working just for the summer and leaving in July/August due to their training programs ending or school year based jobs picking up again. After his Occupational Therapy evaluation at Kaiser he was denied therapy because he was "delayed, but not delayed enough." Knowing that my son could really benefit from OT therapy, I contacted the Alta Regional Center who referred my son to Monica at Little Bird Courage Company for an evaluation. She came to our home this past Tuesday and was with us for over 2 hours. She is extremely knowledgable and worked very well with my son. He was tired and fussy and she gave him all of the time he needed. She also took the time to explain a lot of things about our son that we did not know, like why he did certain things and how we can help him modify negative behaviors. I really appreciate the time she took to explain my son's behaviors to us because in all of the evaluations he has had no one ever tried to help us gain a better understanding of my son's ASD and Monica did.

I knew it, I could feel it in my bones that they were abnormally stiff and I didn't even know how to hold them to be quite honest. I called up one day, not even on an insurance referral just begging for someone to listen and the incredible attention I got for someone to just hear me and immediately want to meet my kids to assess was so refreshing given that everyone else dismissed me. From what I've seen, the staff work well together and are supportive of one another which makes a big difference in the overall atmosphere. It can get busy at times but things are still organized and handled professionally. The residents are also treated with a lot of care and respect which is really important.
