If you're one of those that love IKEA, it is quite the destination! There are some that find the place a bit overwhelming and that's fair, it takes some time to get through the cornucopia of items, choices, products and visuals. If you want an "in and out" place, this probably wouldn't work, but if you want a true shopping experience, this is it! It's bright, colorful, interesting and there are massive amounts of items to choose and enjoy. There is also the advantage of being able to look at a piece of furniture, for example, and take it with you that day. So many convenient items as well that you know you want, but you haven't found it yet, it is here! Of course, being a food lover, I really like the cafe! They have the best shrimp salad! Reminds me of the old department store days when I used to lunch with my Mom and feel like a grown up. It's so fresh, tasty and affordable! The famous meatballs, mashed and gravy do not disappoint! The lingonberry jam makes you want to grab a jar to go. Gotta say, even their chicken fingers are good! Another crowd pleaser, the many desserts to choose from! The dining room has large windows and a wonderfully bright setting for an easygoing eating experience! Service: there really is nothing to speak of in the store. It was less than $2 and was heated and good! It was handed to me in a bag (I was hoping to eat it on a plate but guess this is mostly to go stuff). I would probably get it again though. I love Ikea and wish they had one in Hawaii. They have affordable furniture for your home and they have a popular cafe that people adore. Most people know about their Swedish meatballs with lingonberry jam. It's their most popular item. It comes with mashed potatoes and peas. It comes either with 8 meatballs $8.49, 12 meatballs $9.99 and 16 meatballs $11.49. I usually get the 8 piece and it fills me up. It's so good. I get that and a fountain drink $2. They have their own in house fountain drinks. Some of it tastes off. The Cola does not taste like Cola. My favorite would have to be the lingonberry drink. It's not sweet and lightly flavored. I also have a small section that sells groceries. I like getting the Swedish chocolates. European chocolates are the best. read more

We visited IKEA to take advantage of the birthday perks they offer. This location in Canton, Michigan has their showrooms on the top floor and shopping on the main level. There are some items sold throughout the showroom section but the main shopping is the lower level. We walked through the showroom areas on the top floor to get an idea of what we'd want to buy. Since their restaurant is located on this floor, we ate before going downstairs. There was a line for food (it's cafeteria style where you grab a tray and walk through the line to pick out what you want) but it was moving very quickly. The line cooks were very personable but when I got to the cashier, she was not friendly at all and had double-charged me for my meal. When I questioned it, there was no apology. She just corrected it and told me the new price. I found that odd since I've never encountered this type of attitude at this store before (at any of their locations). It was this interaction that lowered my rating from a 4 star to a 3 star as it left a bad feeling the remainder of my visit. I ended up getting their typical Swedish meatballs meal (comes with peas and mashed potatoes). I also got a slice of the chocolate cake for my birthday perk. It was really good but very chocolatey so be aware! After our meal, we walked through the lower/main level, picking up odds and ends for the kitchen and bath and used their self-checkout. IKEA hasn't offered bags for purchases for years now so be sure to bring your own bags if you anticipate buying anything. I like shopping here and I like their meals in the restaurant so we'll return to hopefully a different experience in the future. read more

Nate wanted to buy some shelves at IKEA so we stopped by recently. I think this was my first time visiting this IKEA location. Luckily it was not busy at all, we went on a weekday around noon. The store is huge and the flow is pretty much one way, so you kind of have to walk through the whole place to get to what you're looking for. It's okay though because they have SO MUCH to see - I particularly like the different setups showing all their items in little fake rooms. If you can imagine something for your house, they probably sell it at IKEA. Luckily we were on a mission to get in and out quickly, so we only bought two items - the shelf Nate wanted, and a bamboo cutting board for me. Some other things that caught my eye: the chairs (they have SO MANY chairs), bedding (I've bought comforters at IKEA before), lots and lots of kitchenware items, and tons of fake plants. To purchase any large items, just take a photo of the tag that tells where it's stored in the self-service area (warehouse at the end of the store). Then just find the row and grab the box(es). The item we were looking for was right at the entrance of the self-service area which was handy. There's a restaurant upstairs and a grab and go food/snack area right after the checkouts. read more

I wanted to make sure it was OK to use before I shopped, just in case. Yes, I stood in line for a while - it was the weekend - but the associate was super friendly and helpful, even explained what the cashier needed to do just in case. I have bought so much furniture over the years from IKEA I may as well be a partner with them. I always enjoy walking around, even if it's just to look for ideas. The layout is easy to follow and honestly, it helps to get your steps in. The cafe is also incredible. It has a lot of plant-based options which I would never expect but they hit veggie dogs, vegan dogs, plant based meatballs, and maybe I'm missing something but the price is right because that stuff is usually expensive. The epitome of "if they could they would." The people who work here are always nice and ready to assist and that's hard to come by. It's always been a great store, since they opened. They even grew over the years, increasing the size of their warehouse. Note, it's LARGE, WAREHOUSE TYPE STORE. Do not expect sales associates to hover over you, heck - after COVID you might even see less than before. If you've never been before, let me help you because I worked there for years - even prior to them opening, and helped open 3 stores across the country. (but every store is different.) You start upstairs. Grab a map that has an area to write things down, as well as the little pencil and tape measure if you need it. look around the showroom, and if you see a product you want, write down the article number and location to pick it up. At the end of the first floor you either go down the stairs, down the elevator, or to the restaurant area to have a meal, snacks and drinks, or head to the restroom. Go downstairs and grab a cart. If you need larger items there are larger L carts near the warehouse area that holds the larger items in Aisle and Bin locations. *Note, ALL of the carts spin, so don't freak out. There's a clearance section to the far right of the checkout lanes, and seasonal is in front of the checkouts. The lines are usually long, but move pretty quickly. (large carts and social distancing make them appear longer than you're going to really be there.) Take your own bags, or buy theirs. They do not bag your items. Think of them being a warehouse ALDI. You're saving money by doing these things yourself. You won't even need to bring a quarter! After checking out there's an area that has food items to take home like the 6 pack of cinnamon rolls, soft serve cones, as well as a lot of other things that are hot and ready to eat. There's candy, cookies, frozen meal items, coffee, and a lot of other goodies that are fun to try out. (Grab the frozen meatballs, sauce packets, and lingonberry preserves. We use that instead of cranberry sauce over the holiday.) A tip for you - if you are with someone else and want to check out the prepackaged food (not hot dogs, pizza, ice cream - something with a bar code on it) have them stay in line while you go shop and bring the items back to the line. You can just check out one time that way unless you're heading to get a hot dog at their food counter. If you need delivery, it's to the right of the exit doors. If you need help loading, park your car to the loading area and then go ask someone from Delivery to help. It looks like they brought self checkout back after it being gone for years, again removing the need for real people. I hope it works well for them. read more

During the height of the pandemic I literally avoided IKEA like the plague. I get overwhelmed and annoyed by shoppers here on a GOOD day, let alone during a global catastrophe! But I got vaxxed and case numbers dropped and I figured I could finally go and pick up the virtual cart full of stuff I had been making note of the last 12 months. I had a Friday off work so I thought an afternoon at that time might be a good idea, and it was. It was definitely less crowded than the last time I'd been there, so that was good. I swiftly made my way through the marketplace, grabbing storage containers, shelving and outdoor decor. They were low on stock (or down right out of) of several items but I found most everything I needed. I had an outdoor shelving unit on my "to buy" list and could not find it ANYWHERE despite the app saying it was in stock. I went to customer service and a helpful (although not all that pleasant) employee helped me find the item. Turns out it wasn't on the floor for pick up. I had to "order" it from the back room, pay for it, then pick it up from the pick up area. This was SUCH a pain. It easily took another 20 minutes after check out until this one small-ish sized box was brought out to me. Such a weird and labor intensive set up. I have no idea why this item wasn't on the floor in the self serve area like all the bigger furniture items. It was frustrating to wait after I had already checked out. While I waited I hit up the food area, which is now a separate section and you check out at the market kiosk. I wasn't a fan of having to do two seperate check out experiences but at least it gave me something to do while I waited for shelf! Not my favorite way to spend a day but for the prices and quality of products, stopping by here is a necessary errand every so often. read more

While strolling the Ikea in Canton, Michigan I came across a set a beautiful patterned sheer curtains on display. Sadly tho, I could not find them located in the store. And then I found Katie. :) I was met with a friendly smile and eager enthusiasm to help me. Katie determined that set of curtains that I loved were not longer available and the only set in store was the one I saw displayed. She read my disappointment and offered to sell me the display set. I was thrilled. Katie (still smiling) kindly found a ladder to use to reach the top curtain rod to remove them for my anticipated purchase. Online ordering for pickup or home delivery doesn't work due to high demand. So I had no choice other than going in-store. When I visited earlier, most of the items were not available and the staff informed me to check through phone before coming. I called up to enquire if the items were in stock for pick up. After 20 minutes of waiting, I was connected. The representative helped me with the process. We took nearly 30 minutes to find the items I wanted and added it to the cart. When proceeding to check out, the staff informed me that she had some issues with her system and cannot proceed further. She asked me to call back, but I wasn't sure if I'll be connected to the same person. I did not want to go through the same process again with different person. So, I gave my number and asked her to reach me as their call volumes were too big. No one contacted me after that and when I called back I was put on hold till my call got disconnected. I recently volunteered to drive a few family members to this IKEA because they wanted to see what the hype was all about. It is typically well over an hour drive for them so we used the toad trip an excuse to get out during C19. All of the social distancing measures appeared to be in place. We casually strolled through the store, commenting on various items and planning future purchases. I had no real intention to buy anything during my visit until I saw the pet carrier on display. After searching for them on the floor, I wasn't able to find it. Eventually, also after searching, a store associate didn't find them either. In the end, I ordered it online. In the end, we left with a few ideas of things we want to purchase eventually, I with some chocolate candy and my family members bought decor like pillows, candles, etc. Overall, it was about what I expected. When the kids were very small, we would come here to eat and for them to play and to purchase so many items for them as babies and toddlers, cups, plates, decorations. Now, the prices have gone up a lot, they do not have as much available product, and their food prices are so high compared to the value it previously years. When coming to eat here they often run out of food, have limited supply of food, they have watered down their soda and coffee so much and charge more. They also used to have more of a variety of food. They have taken away perks from their card members as well and seem to give you less value that way, other than them tracking your spending habits, I am not sure why it is good to be a member of their club. Being an avid shopper at this world of furniture, it becomes mandatory to get food pre-shopping or post-shopping because of the colossal amount of time I spend walking the grounds. First off, both my wieners were undercooked and the bun was soggy all around the casing of the dog. The meatballs were so so but been better in past visits. The reason I am giving this a 2 star rating is because of how charming and nice the workers were to me. I feel like the store is more of a novelty than an actual store I would shop at with any regularity. I can probably count on my one hand how many times I've been to an IKEA. The first time I ever went was not here in the US, but was actually in Germany. My second time was actually in a Swedish IKEA. The Swedish people and Germans really like these stores and actually love the Swedish meatballs they sell at the store. A friend of mine, who is Swedish, says he loves the Swedish meatballs there. I guess that's why I'm not Swedish? Then again I'm not much into meatballs as it is. Are the meatballs here really traditional Swedish meatballs, for real? Ikea is the king and master of designing products to break down into many pieces. They can be compacted into the smallest little packages. I remember a small table lamp that I had bought at the IKEA in Germany and it came in nine pieces, keep in mind the whole lamp itself was only about 2 feet tall, in total. That's quite the execution of package engineering, to be able to break this down into nine pieces, what an amazing and successful feat. When I moved back to the states from Germany. I ended up buying some necessary items here while I was living in temporary housing for two months in our corporate housing/condos and before transitioning and buying a house back in the states. The dinnerware and silverware worked well for a couple of months. They are still working well for my parents since then. I also have purchased some of their clear plastic storage containers, since they have so many different sizes and configurations. They really do have innovative designs for storage and home use. The store is quite a massive warehouse and has such an array of items, it's almost overwhelming. I could easily spend hours here just getting to know all the products they have in here. read more
