I spent a number of hours and over $1000 on furniture for a bedroom. I then spent the $400 for delivery and assembly. I took the day off from work as they initially give you a 12 hour window for delivery which narrows to 4 hours the day before. They say they will call that day with a smaller window, but never called. The truck showed up and the delivery team was very nice. However, it was the wrong truck so they were not trained and could not do assembly. I was told I needed to call customer service for IKEA and maybe they could send an assembly team that day. However, the customer service line was unable to be accessed for an hour (they said call back at a later time) and then when I finally got through, I was told it was a 120 minute wait to get through. When I finally got through, they of course couldn't send anyone to assemble the furniture that day so I had to reschedule. Since it was a child's bed and I didn't want them weeks without a place to sleep and they had no other weekend delivery times for over a month, I had to take another day off of work. I love ikea. Honestly like it's so much fun and I always get the most amazing deals for furniture and my kids have a blast here. However, I was getting something for my one kid and couldn't find it in the marketplace so I asked an employee. He told me that it was out of stock so I said ok and planned to leave. But just before I went, I decided to take a quick look around the area just in case I found a similar thing to the object that the employee said was out of stock. I was looking around and I actually managed to find the thing I was looking for. So moral of the story don't trust employees because they're bitter and tired??? read more

For all of IKEA's creative efficiencies, the furniture pickup area is always painfully slow. Lots of co-workers standing around while you wait 30min+ for one item. It is also common to see only one or two checkout lines open with excessively long lines. One would think that a flagship store next door to IKEA's US Corporate HQ would be much better. read more

I have been to many IKEAS in and near Toronto, Detroit and Philadelphia and have loved the past in-person IKEA shopping experience. I don't have an IKEA near my home but need to purchase items (furniture) for a family member going to college in a small city nearby. According to other people you can easily get items from IKEA unless you live in an isolated area...I don't live in a major metropolitan area but I would hardly call Rochester, NY isolated!! Right now I am finding their customer service for people who do not have an IKEA nearby maddening. I tried to call the nearest IKEA which is in Conshohoken, PA just to see if the items are available in their current in-store inventory (for pick-up...I am out of their delivery area). They will not take calls right now because of volume of calls but will not let you leave a message or wait on the line until someone is available to talk to you. Then, you are prompted to send an email. So decided to try that...here you are prompted to choose from possible subjects via a drop-down menu which doesn't drop-down and only offers "order cancellation" as a subject. I just need to know if they have the items available before I make the 4 hour drive to PA. These things could not have been obtained ahead of time as colleges were still deciding how they were going to function (in-person, hybrid or virtual). After reading several of their reviews it seems like people are a little concerned on how they are handling their in-person safety measures so it would seem they would change their business model in light of all that is going on and offer more options for call-ahead to check for items, curbside delivery and delivery to people out of the IKEA store area - wow! everyone else is evolving and changing their delivery and business model. It has taken me this long to review this place as I've been so angry for the past month. On New Year's Day, I visited this Ikea (first time at this one and last time) with my friend. Needless to say, we visited the restaurant and one of the workers there was so rude, I actually thought I was on candid camera and any moment someone would approach me and say "we're just kidding." No, it actually happened. This young person, Sean, was the rudest and when I asked to speak to the manager, what happened next can not be made up. The manager (who refers to herself as the "buck stops here") listened to me patiently and afterwards, she turned just as fast when I asked her for the contact information to go above her. I merely asked her this because I was so taken back by how Sean spoke to me, that I couldn't believe anyone would take me seriously and I thought if I asked to speak to someone higher up in the chain, she'd know i was serious. Needless to say, I've left out alot of details because still today, when I think about that day....I still can't believe that anyone would have hired someone like Sean, much less, the manager. Unfortunately, those two may still be employed by this IKEA, but I certainly have not returned since this time...and don't ever plan to return. I love this IKEA. It is huge, and has a fantastic showroom. I find it easy to navigate, and I have rarely had an issue with items being out of stock. IKEA is a mixed bag but has some great things that you won't find anywhere else. For example, the Muesli cereal in the food market is the BEST you can find in the US aside from home made. I have searched Whole Foods, Wegmans, all the other grocery chains but IKEA is the only place to import Finax cereal from Sweden. It has much less sugar and more whole grain than anything I have seen. Also the Christmas display has lots of neat Scandinavian stuff you will never see at other stores. I love that they carry lots of small things (shelves, sinks, storage units, tables) which will fit into places that most things won't. The only bad thing is the customer service wait time....and prepare to hold for an hour if you try to call. Some employees are definitely better than others. UPDATE 10/2016: IKEA had stopped carrying Finax muesli for a bit but as of last weekend IT'S BACK!!! I bought 8 bags. Stay away from the Ikea branded Muesli....no where near as good as Finax. read more

I have NEVER experienced such terrible customer service from a company before. After going to IKEA I was not given all of the boxes by an employee for the dresser that I purchased. I was only given 3 out of the 6 dresser drawers for my dresser. It has been two weeks I still have not gotten the dresser drawers delivered to my home. I have been transferred to more departments than I can name. I have collectively been put on hold for over 2 hours over the past two weeks. and NOW they cannot find my dresser draws to be delivered. ALSO you MUST have someone at your house to deliver anything from this company. I will NEVER do business with this company ever again and I advise everyone else to know that the customer service at IKEA is among the worst I have ever dealt with. The store is advertised here as opening at 9:30am. I had to pick up an order this morning I had pre-ordered so I could pick it up and not be late for work. Apparently only the restaurant is open at 9:30. It doesn't say that in the hours on Apple maps / Yelp. Now I have to wait here for a half hour until this place actually opens at 10am. I have my son with me. I have to get him to school still, now both he and I will definitely be late. I haven't even gotten to receiving my order yet which I am sure will be a disaster if my experience so far is any indication. Overall, this is a great store. I've had some helpful staff and found some great furniture and treasures. A few things that fall apart here are long lines at the cafeteria and long lines at the checkout. And BEWARE of plants, we brought home knats that took forever to eliminate. I have always loved Ikea. Until now. I waited a long time to put in an Ikea kitchen. I took advantage of this year's kitchen sale. I spent lots of time with two kitchen sales folk. They were fun to work with. We ordered LOTS of stuff and I had it shipped. My contractor has taken my current kitchen apart and rebuilt it. It's been a month, but we are finally ready for installation. Which is good because it's hard living in a place that's stuffed with boxed stuff and lots of dust and dirt. Now I find that the Ikea sales folks ordered some wrong size materials for me. OK. I got the right sizes and will return the wrong size drawers. It's a nuisance but you know, mistakes happen. Ikea has this year outsourced installation to a local supplier. They are supposed to be great. Except that, expecting installation next week, I learn that the subcontractor is NOT honoring Ikea prices for installations. I finally got their estimate, which was supposed to be pretty much the Ikea estimate. But they have TRIPLED the estimate for NO reason. I bet Ikea is right now inundated with complaints from hysterical customers. When I call them tomorrow I will be one of many. Sitting in dust and surrounded by boxes. O M G Stay tuned! read more

Awful customer service (GENE, customer service for return) I returned a mattress that my wife and I purchased because it was sagging tremendously and we could not have a good night's rest anymore. The mattress was purchased by credit card and since it was under warranty they inspected it and accept to get it back but give us a gift card instead of a refund. We went to customer service and asked if we could have a refund instead of a gift card, mentioning that we don't want to re-purchase another IKEA mattress due to the quality of it. The cashier called his manager to discuss this and to our surprise we had a person that was very unprofessional (GENE) and seemed to be very bothered to have to deal with us. We politely explained that we wished to have our refund instead of a gift card, but he simply told us both that : 1/ He disagreed on the quality of the mattress because it is excellent quality (even though we returned ours that was unusable after a year). 2/ He sarcastically told that "we need to buy another mattress here with the gift card" with a snarky smile ( while we explained to him that we won't purchase another mattress). 3 / He walked away from us telling us that there's nothing he can do for us.... If a person does not have a minimum of empathy or understanding facing customers I believe he should not work in customer service. Respect of the procedures is normal but respect of the clients should also be a priority. read more

I was on hold for 1 hour and 10 minutes before I got the answer of the employee scanned the wrong barcode. What a waste of my time!! Will not shop there again. read more

So as I indicated in my review of IKEA (Phila) I worked here when they first opened (in the mid 80's - yikes!), so this is the second version of that first store in Plymouth Meeting, Pa (which was the first and only store in the US at the time). This location is so much better and finally holds the amount of business IKEA produces. Parking is easy, the store is spacious and clean (although I still hate the maze pattern on the second floor that is designed to keep you shopping). The products are still design heavy (great design) but the quality is still low. I appreciate IKEA for what it is: which is a great store to shop for cutting edge home furnishings but you know that it's a pain in the ass to assemble and the quality will always be "OK" or low. I also love going to IKEA for inspiration on floor design and color. I gave them 4 stars for their great design, clean store, and great merchandising. I hate getting to the store which can be tricky if you're not familiar with the area, and at a minimum is a pain in the ass to access. Other than that "four thumbs up". read more

Last Saturday, 11/11/17, I purchased a dining room set from Ikea in Conshohocken. On Friday, 11/17/17, the items were delivered. The table was the wrong shade. I tried 2 times to call that day,to no avail, each time holding for ten minutes. When I got home, I spent another half an hour on hold before a rip finally picked up the phone. She was great. Apologetic and accommodating. She ordered the correct table and said I would get it today. Expect a call Saturday night to confirm. Awesome. I got no call. So this morning I grew concerned thinking that the delivery may not happen since I got no confirmation call. After 45 minutes waiting for a rep, she tells me that it was ordered but the store, Conshohocken, never released it. She puts me on hold another 15 minutes only to come back to say they didn't pick up at the store and I'd be better off driving to the store myself to solve the problem. I have no room for this table nor should I have to drive 45 minutes each way for their mistake when I paid for delivery. I've sent a private message and made a short comment on their Facebook page to tell them I didn't want to publicly shame them, asking them to address my message. Since then, they've messaged me back asking when I'd be home to reschedule the delivery. After 5 hours they read and reponded to my reply only to say they saw that I talked to the store and that everything was resolved. Completely untrue. I spoke to no one and nothing was resolved! Now I'm at square one again. I'm sorry that my past positive experiences with ikea are now a faded memory because after this experience, I don't see ever going back. read more

Very disappointed in the service I received while shopping in the store. When I was unable to locate the item I was looking to purchase I asked a sales associate - Jennifer - to help me. She directed me to the section I had just looked in - I politely asked if she would please take me over, because I had just come from that area and couldn't find it. I explained that I had people waiting for me in the car and l appreciated her helping me. She however was very patronizing and looked visibly annoyed to have to walk me to the back wall. When she arrived at the spot she realized the shelf was in fact empty of the item I was looking for. She did spot the display which she scanned and told me there were 24 of the item located at the top of the stairs. I asked if there was anyway to just purchase the display since I was in a hurry. She said no and did not offer any further help such as directing me to the stairs or offering to call up to someone in that department. I took the display with me and tried to quickly navigate to the upstairs. I was very frustrated to find that the "kitchens" were not in fact at the top of the stairs as she had indicated. It took me a few minutes to find where she was talking about and once I did the next sales associate insisted that they did not carry that item in their section. I explained that Jennifer had scanned the item and sent me there specifically. She then took me to sales associate - Michael - who was on the phone for several minutes before confirming that they didn't have the item upstairs. I asked again if I could purchase the display and again explained that I had several people waiting for me in the car and was trying to make a quick purchase. His response was to "let them out" which wasn't particularly amusing to me since I felt locating the small item I needed to purchase should not be this complicated or time consuming. He said he would need to create a price label on the computer. When the computer froze, he retrieved a piece of scrap paper from the trash can! And hand wrote it. It was completely frustrating and I felt like an inconvenience to everyone I asked for assistance. If I could give a 0 star review I would! read more

i want to live in one of their fake rooms! i love ikea furniture, mostly because it's inexpensive. the accessories and decor stuff are adorable. this store is way better than the one in south philly, by far. i think it is because the staff is friendly and happy to help. it gets a little crowded, and people tend to let their awful children run amok, but other than that, i make the trek here to stock up on essentials. the self checkout lanes make things easy too (but no matter what lane you get in, there will be a long line). read more

Formaldehyde City If you want to fill your home with toxic cancer fumes imported from who knows where because it's "cheap", this is the place to go I tried that route and gave it up. Got tired of putting things out on the curb once I looked at it the wrong way. And having learned how the chemicals in their stuff are the same that were in the FEMA trailers, never again. Just not worth it. A cool store just opened not far away from my home in Paoli(Bookcases Plus) that carries natural wood furniture for great prices. It's made in the USA, not in Asia.It seems more right paying for actual quality made in US than paying for what is mostly the costs to ship something of much lower quality 5000 miles. I painted my book shelf with acrylic paint from Benjamin Moore and it looks fantastic. This was already assembled as furniture should be and my late dad always pointed out. No funny missing connectors. Painting it to match my wall was a much better use of time than assembling Ikea garbage, as I know this will last forever. Cost $176 for everything read more

We got a lot of help while in the store picking out cabinets for our kitchen. The items were to be deliver. On delivery day, the order never came. We called the customer service center and they said the delivery was cancelled because there was 1 part of the stock (all items were in stock when we ordered it). We never received a heads up the delivery was cancelled so we wasted a Saturday. A simple call or email would have been nice. IKEA really dropped the ball. read more

Please spare yourself the agony and don't buy anything from here that involves Delivery. We bought/paid for our furniture 10 days back and they set us up for delivery the next day. They were supposed to come between 5-9 pm. I cleared my schedule and waited. At 9 p clock I called ikea and after 1 hour 30 minutes of hold time my call was returned to the main operator. Apparently the person who took the call first put me on hold and left for the day. I requested to ask for the manager and he promised he will email me the details on what happened, which he never did. I call again the next day and after only 30 minutes of hold I was told the delivery company, a 3rd party ikea uses, dont even have any record of our purchase or delivery. Spending another 2 hours on the phone over 3 calls we got it rescheduled and was given a date a week later. We were called again and an automated message was given for a date and time a lot. I am not available at that time and been trying to tell them that and it's been 1 hour 45 minutes on the call trying to get it rescheduled. I am probably going to cancel the order but that means another hold time of God knows how many hours. It has been a terrible experience and would strongly advise to arrange own delivery read more

Came here few days ago after dinner to buy two tables for my work. There was probably about an hour left before the store was to close. Walking to the office furniture section took a really long time, IKEA needs to add more shortcuts! I understand IKEA's marketing tactic to get you to walk through their whole store but I don't always have the time for that. Despite the small crowd in the evening, there were only two cashiers open and the checkout process was REALLY SLOW. We were in line for probably 30 minutes just to get our computer printout paid for. Not only was the checkout slow, we were told to go to furniture pickup to get our tables. The lady at furniture pickup told us it would take them about 10-15 mins to locate it and bring it out to us. So I went to the garage to pull my car out front and went inside to wait almost another 30 mins! I can't even imagine how long it would take when the store is full with customers! The customer service in this particular IKEA is HORRIFYING. My husband was checking out in the regular line as I went to the area to pick up items we ordered online. I walk up to the counter, there is a man standing there, he never looks at me, never says anything. Okay...I walk over to another counter where a woman is standing. I say I'm here to pick up something I ordered online, she says "Oh this gentleman can help you" and leads me to the same person who never uttered a word as I stood there waiting. He immediately rolls his eyes, stomps through the door leading to where they keep the items. Again, says nothing to me. He comes back out and says "EMAIL" without even making eye contact. I start giving him my email address thinking he needs it to look up my order. Again he says "EMAIL" and again I repeat myself. He says, "NO THE EMAIL WE SENT YOU, I NEED IT." Um, would have been nice to start off with a-hole. But okay, I slam my phone down at this point because he's being a complete jack a$$. He looks at my email, walks back to get my furniture then just wheels the item over and says "HERE" and walks away. Not another word. Mind you, I have a stroller and it's just me standing there. You would think someone with any kind of service oriented attitude would ask if I need help as I couldn't possibly wheel the stroller and the items at the same time. Luckily, my husband comes around the corner just at that time and we start heading towards the elevator. I tell him what happened and he said the same thing happened to him in line. The cashier was rude, never made eye contact, and had 0 customer service skills. These employees need some serious training.... Atrocious. read more

I bought all new office furniture parts missing...actual furniture missing too...don't try to call customer service unless you have almost an entire day to be on hold over and over again. Although the merchandise looks good the level of anxiety and frustration dealing with the employes reduced the value to ZERO! I was also told that I'd be contacted in 48 hours to set up a delivery time and when I hadn't heard from them in 3 days, I called again to set up delivery myself. But the Conshohocken branch of IKEA also sells food, with a cafeteria on the second floor of the building, as well as small bistro past checkout to buy food for the road. This particular review will focus on the second floor cafeteria. The Cafeteria seems like it was designed completely for parents with young children. The food is served in a buffet line, with the kitchen staff serving quality food faster than any fast food company, making it easy one a 5 year olds patience. once you get the food you grab some cups and send your children to go play at the soda fountain (set with a plethora of various soda brands) while you go find a table and enjoy the absence of screaming children. Then you get on to the meal itself. The menu itself is divided into two parts; kiddie and adult, with both parts very cheap. adults (or anyone older than 12) can order salmon lasagne for $6, or get the iconic plate of swedish meatballs, with mashed potatoes and lingonberries for just $5. As for kids, they can get Chicken fingers, pasta, or again, the iconic meatballs. A kids meal also includes a drink and cookies for a total of just $3. But while the Cafeteria is focused towards young families, It is a great place to eat while shopping because of the cheap food, highly convenient location, and the fast serving time. However, the place is not without it's drawbacks. The room is wide open and, as you can imagine, a large open room with lots of children can get very loud very quickly. And if you are the type of person against clearing your place when you're done eating, it's not for you. IKEA has requires all customers to place their dirty trays in large trolleys, were workers will take them periodically take them into the kitchen to be washed. This saves IKEA the cost of having workers go around to collect the plates as you finish. These savings allows them to have the food cost less, so it's worth exercise. All in all, IKEA did a good job on the cafeteria, and it isn't going to disappear any time soon. Skinny: Ikea put a cafeteria inside their store to make shopping at ikea more enjoyable. Dont buy from them if they told you that they have to get if from the "Back" for you to pickup at the pickup area. I always love shopping at ikea but i recently move to this area and this is the WORST shopping experience ever. I went with my 5 months old son to purchase a shoe cabinet which i already lookup online before i go. I went to the self service area to look for it but was being told that the staff have to pick it up from the "Back" and i have to pay first at the checkout and go to the pickup area to pick it up. I paid and went to pickup area. I signed in with the pickup area staff and he told me he is going to get it and ask me to wait for my number to be call. 30 mins later, still no sign of anyone calling my number. I went to the desk and ask if they can check where the item is. This girl told me it's coming just have a seat and wait. Another 20 mins passed and my baby started getting fussy because i didnt plan to stay there more than one and a half hour, we were suppose to get home by that time so i can feed him. I went to the desk again and ask if they can bring my item out now because i had waited 1 hour ,if not, i want my refund and leave this place. She told me they are busy while there were 3 employees standing there chatting about where they are going to shop for black friday. My baby started to cry and i got angry and they finally got my item from the "Back". I guess the "Back" must be a enormous giant place for them to take 1 hour to get the item for me. If there is any IKEA MANAGER reading this post, please do something about the management over the pickup area. This is one of the worst stores that I have ever purchased from. I purchased a large order from them and after I came back to my office I realized that I had to exchange one of the desks for a smaller one to fit into the office. I called the store in Conshohocken where I just made the purchase and found out that there is no way to get through to the store. Since I did not know the extension number for the sales person I dealt with it said that I can dial by name by putting the first three letter of the first name. I did and the message I got is that there is no such person in this store. Calling their customer service call center I was on hold for 45 minutes before a person picked up the phone and advised me that he could not help me as he only deals with purchases online. I asked him if he could transfer me to the store and his comment was that they really don't like that and that I should just go back to the store to make the exchange. He said that he will transfer me, he pushed some button did not have the courtesy to wait to see if the transfer sent through and an error message came up that the transfer could not go through. I now have to go back to the store which is a gross inconvenient since I am far away from that store. This was my first and now the last purchase I will ever make from this store. They have no services after the sale. Amazon is where I will continue to go to as they don't have any of this nonsense. read more

I'm so upsetting with my recent purchase at Ikea recently. I called them last Sunday regarding a missing corner cabinet and the customer service rep told me it would be delivered on Tuesday from 5pm to 9pm after giving me the ticket number. I called in yesterday to check on delivery status after on hold for more than 1/2 hour, another customer service rep told me it was placed but didn't get shipped yet. She put me on hold for another 15 mins to call Conshohocken store to find out the avail and delivery date. Finally she said it would be delivered today from 9 am - 1 pm. I asked her the local phone # that I could call just in case it's not here on time, she said I have to call the 1-888 number and someone will assist me. I couldn't believe it. It takes extremely so long to get someone on the phone for assistant. My brother decided to pick it up just so our project will be continuing as scheduled after being delayed for few days. Ikea is top drawer (nice pun) for many things home furnished. Items are, if you are unfamiliar, self-assemble but that's part of the fun - and the cheaper price. I like the fact there's the least expensive and more expensive version of just about everything. You can mix and match as well - I redid my home futon 'couch' with sold separately cushion for a different sofa they had along with the covers and viola, a new couch for me! Equally creative ideas ooze from every department. You could spend a day there just exploring. There's a restaurant which went down hill a while back - stopped serving inexpensive tasty pasta - but now selections have doubled. Staff can be slow to restock the items so you might have to prod. Prices are fairly low for a decent entree. Near the check out there's a little food stand which carries fast-food semblance items - hot dog, frozen yogurt, and there is a small selection of take home food items like their famous swedish meatballs and gravy. Soft drink choices are on the short side, but hey, its not a Wawa or Acme. I downgrade one rating for inconsistent customer service - most people are nice and helpful - and a pesky problem of spending too much time trying to figure out the actual price on an item. You also may have to hunt and peck in the warehouse to get it, too. I'll never go to this store again. I usually go to the Philadelphia store but this one was a little closer so we paid the tolls and took the hour drive there. I went there to get new plates they had in their catalog but when I got there the plates were no where to be found and neither was a sales associate. When I finally found a sales person there were three other people in front of me with the same problem-- they couldn't find something that was in the catalog. Finally, it was my turn. I was told the plates were on the floor and they told me the location but wouldn't physically show me in the store where they were. I looked again and they weren't there. After another 20 minutes of trying to find a sales person I found one a little more helpful. She's the only reason this review is getting two stars or else I'd give it no stars at all. She couldn't find them either. Finally, she called around the store. The plates were there but they were in the back and could only be accessed by forklift. There was nothing the helpful salesperson could do except write down the item number and tell me to call ahead of time to see if they're on the floor next time. I was told they would be on the floor a day after. Two days later, I call the confusing customer service number and guess what? They're still in the back and not on the floor. The Philadelphia location has them on the floor so I'll be going there from now on. If something is in the catalog it should be on the floor otherwise it's false advertising.
