This review is on the cooking classes offered at Sur La Table. We decided to take the Lunar New Years cooking class to learn how to make soup dumplings. The cooking place was pretty cool. There was flavored water to sip on while we waited for the class to start. The whole cooking experience was shared between 4 different people. The table is kind of small for us to work on especially with how many people attended the class. The kitchen had a tv to see what was going on but for some reason it wasn't facing the chef so it was pretty useless. The class has helpers to the chef which was very useful. There was someone to helped with cleaning dishes, someone to help us when we couldn't figure out what to do or if we had questions, and someone who helped create the prep of ingredients. Our teacher was nice but it felt like we rushed through cooking the dish. The important stuff was pre prepared which was kind of a bummer. Like the dough for the dumplings was kneaded already and the filling for the soup dumplings were premade. I was also kind of bummed to know that it's super hard to make the soup dumpling filling. We also made some stir-fry noodles and green beans. It was interesting to learn how green beans are prepared to be so crisp via blanching in oil. read more

I thought this would be a good event for a date night. There's something romantic about cooking together than eating what we cooked. We attended the Date Night: French Elegance class. Our chef made sure that we understood his instructions to prepare the meal. He emphasized the importance of "mise en place" which means having everything prepared in advance. Our meal was Seared Scallops with Champagne Beurre Blanc, Saffron-Scented Risotto with Peas and Prosciutto, and Chocolate Souffle with Salted Caramel Sauce. We started with making the Risotto. Each couple was matched with another couple and took turns with the preparation. There was a 10 minute break to give the class participants the time to walk around the shop. We finished the risotto and made the scallops. The souffle was the only portion of the meal that the students did not prepare. We enjoyed the experience and decided to take another class. read more

Was gifted a certificate to Sur La Table for the holidays so my boyfriend and I attended as a date night. The cooking classes are conducted in groups, which I expected but don't prefer, but all in all we had a great time. The food came out delicious, I enjoy every course, although it was a little cold when we went to indulge. Only thing I wish could've been better were that the drinks were served hot, no ice and there was nowhere for us to sit and enjoy our meal. My mother bought this as a gift for her grandson, and they had a terrible experience. She is 85 years old and was expecting the class to last 2 hours, based on the website. However, it ended up being 3 hours, which was very long for her to stand without anywhere to sit. While she was aware there was no seating, she expected the 2-hour duration, which she could have managed. The second issue was that the class was divided into teams of four, which wasn't explained when we booked. As a result, they only got to participate in half of the steps. The teacher spent too much time talking and explained the next step while the teams were still working on the previous one, so they couldn't follow along. Additionally, there were no printed instructions for them to refer to. Next, when they set out the pre-measured ingredients on their table, whoever placed them spilled egg whites onto the parchment paper. Since no one informed the team about this, the mix became too thick. When the teacher tried to fix it, she was unable to, resulting in the macaroons being too hard and not rising at all. The team was also given the macaroons too late, and since they were still hot, the buttercream melted. Moreover, the ganache was ruined from the heat and became a liquid. I forgot to include there were small flies hovering over their table and the other teams' tables during the entire class. read more

Went to a dumpling cooking class. Was surprised we were partnered with another couple and in a cramped space. Thankfully it helped out having additional friendly hands. Split the tasks accordingly and (mostly) evenly. Learned a lot even though instructor was moving fast. Most of it could be self taught from the Internet but the more meaningful skills came from watching and being directly instructed by the chefs how to handle the knife, fold the dumplings, etc. Trying to replicate our success ourselves! read more

I had a great time attending Sur La Table cooking class! I decided to attend the Spring time cupcakes class as a gift to celebrate my birthday. Registering for the class was easy. You simply go to their website and you can select an array of their classes from savory to sweet. Sur la table is located in the King of Prussia Mall. Once I arrived, I was joined with 15 people in the class along with two instructors. We were paired in a group of 5 and we made strawberry lemonade and strawberry and cream cupcakes. The instructors were very attentive and explained each step on how to make the cupcakes. We even made the buttercream frosting from scratch. Overall the class was very fun and it cost 59.00 for an amazing experience. We got to take our cupcakes home and I'm definitely looking forward to trying their other cooking classes! read more

Went to the 7pm class on 4/5/25 and was extremely disappointed. I was unaware that working in teams of four meant sharing food between four people, including two complete strangers. Had this been advertised correctly and not $100 per person (this was a $200 date night) I might not have been as upset. To the couple we were partnered with, you guys were great and this is no shade to you. We started off the evening strong when our partner accidentally dropped the singular shallot the four of us were sharing on the ground. My fiancé requested a fresh one and the "chef" picked it up off the ground and told us to continue using it. I went to speak with the store manager who was a middle aged bald guy with glasses about my concerns regarding contamination and cleanliness in the class. The store manager informed me there was nothing he could do and that if I voiced my concerns to the Seattle office I "will be laughed at". He acknowledged that the class "wasn't up to par with expectations" (his words not mine). Sir, do not tell me I will be laughed at. That was rude and uncalled for. I also asked you if there was any compensation to be had since the class wasn't what we were expecting and you told me I would be unable to be refunded because we were outside of the cancellation window. You also insulted me by saying "most other couples have fun and enjoy it". I clearly was not enjoying it. This manager's comments and lack of concern were insulting. I feel deeply offended and gaslit. After returning to the class so as not to be out $200, we were instructed on how to cut a pear and grate a shallot. So between the four of us there was maybe 2 minutes out of a two hour class that we were doing anything close to cooking. All of the ingredients were already prepared for us so we were mostly just dumping ingredients into a bowl to mix. How is this a cooking class? When it came time for us to sear our steaks (maybe one pound to split between four people), the "chef" picked up our skillet and ran her fingers along the bottom of the pan to demonstrate that it wasn't yet hot. So if this is a class and I'm supposed to be learning, I put my fingers in a potentially hot skillet full of oil to check at home, right? It's also okay to contaminate the cooking pan, right? This was the only portion of the class I would consider us "cooking". With 8 people crammed around two hot plates on our side of the room, and 6 people on the other side, the amount of smoke was alarming. There did not appear to be any ventilation in the room and it was extremely hard to breathe. I was also under the impression that we would be learning how to make a chocolate mousse dessert. However this did not happen and instead we were given a demonstration of mixing the already prepared ingredients. When it came time for us to eat our "meal" we each had 1/4 of a baked potato, 4 precut slices of steak and a pile of lettuce. Meanwhile, one couple got lucky and had the same amount of food to share between the two of them while everyone else in the room had to share between four people. Again, I might not have been as disappointed if this had been properly advertised on the website. I also would have been less upset if I didn't spend $200 to go home hungry. For that price my finance and I could have easily gone to a steakhouse for a nice dinner out. We also felt like the entire purpose of the class was to sell us on the products in store. Far more time was spent explaining the products instead of teaching us how to cook in a cooking class. TLDR: Be prepared to spend a lot of money to listen to a sales pitch and share one portion size of a meal between four people. You may also be insulted and gaslit by the store managers for voicing any concerns. read more

They do not give exceptions and it's terrible customer service. We visited a Date Night cooking class and had a great experience during class. It was fun and easy, we learned few things from the chef. However we couldn't not take leftover food home.. after class ended we saw staff packing the leftovers in "to go" containers... Also the chef was surprised why no one brought alcoholic beverages. Apparently you can bring your own bottle to the class, but website or email never mentioned it prior to class. read more

I have taken two different classes here with my mom and both have been wonderful opportunities for us to bond and sharpen our cooking skills. Our classes were centered around a meal and the way the space was oriented and the amount of people in the class resulted in us splitting into two larger groups to cook two family style meals. If you have a larger group and would like to stay together, it's easy to ask the group and figure it out as it's an understandable request. The instructors I have had (Dylan and Michael) were both extremely nice and patient. Because our classes were centered around meals (vs. baking croissants or individual pieces of food), it was a bit more observational when it came to cooking but we all practiced knife skills to prep. Yes this is in a retail store, so of course they encourage sales, especially with a 10% coupon, so why not! I like that I can feel inspired in the class and go out and buy what I need to recreate what I have made. I would recommend these classes as a gift or a date idea or a "just because" excursion. I've been wanting to try a cooking class here for years, so I was happy my cousin wanted to join me. We picked " Fresh Mexican Cooking" class which was great! It was small group so not sure how the room would accommodate 16. We learned a bunch of different things including how to properly hold a knife. The food items we made: Homemade Tortillas Chicken Tinga Tostadas with Refried Beans and Mexican Crema Charred Tomato Chilaquiles with Queso Fresco You're able to eat what you make at the end of the class and it was all amazing. I even used the coupon given during class to buy a tostada press among other things. You can NOT take food home so make sure you have a half empty belly. At the end of the class you can shop even though the mall/store is closed. We were never rushed. If you sign up for another cooking class, you receive $ off if you sign up the same day. I wish I knew because I would have picked out a date beforehand. Oh well. Next time. I'm going to sign up for another class today I'll be back. read more

Came here for a date night cooking class: French food. On the menu was pan roasted chicken thighs with a lovely tarragon sauce, goat cheese soufflé, salad with bacon lardons and a poached egg and a vanilla cream stuffed puff pastry with chocolate drizzle. Staff was friendly and helpful. The class was fun and Chef made everything accessible and gave us lots of options to change up the dishes at home. This place is very nice! I went in to find a housewarming gift and narrowed down a wide variety of options to a little popcorn making gift set with different items I found here! The employees were very friendly and helpful. I asked if they sold gift bags and the employee said no but she could put some tissue paper in the shopping bag and then took the time to help pull of the price tags since the items were going right in the bag they would be gifted in. She asked for email for the receipt instead of automatically printing one but happily gave a printed receipt and a gift receipt when asked. This was a nice shopping experience and if I'm in the KOP mall again, I would stop in Sur La Table again to find some great items for myself or as gifts. read more

The website is DECEPTIVE. If you buy something on sale, beware. If the price ends in a "9" or whatever other number they make up, YOU CAN'T RETURN IT!!! It's ridiculous. Normally a website will put the price in red or show "final sale" next to the price, or do both. If you want to experience what it's like to be screamed at by a drill sergeant, Sur La Table is the place for you. "Faster, faster if you want to eat at the end!" was literally a direct quote from our instructor. When my grandmother would make homemade pasta, she did not rush through the process. The food was also pretty average, and the recipes we made were strange and unpopular with most of the students. Egg ravioli? Why would I want a runny egg in my ravioli? It completely overpowered the taste of the ricotta filling. We were stressed the entire time, and it made for an unenjoyable experience. Two and a half hours of stress resulted in below-average food. Thankfully it was a gift, and we didn't have to waste $200+ to cook for ourselves and be subjected to mental anguish the entire time. We also didn't even get to cook everything. The chef boiled the pasta, heated the sauce, assembled the salad... so... we were basically sous chefs? Hard pass. read more

So for my birthday gift, my wife got us a dumpling class at this location. For a total experience, we really had fun. After reading some of the reviews I could pick up in some criticism points. Because the size of the space, you're not totally cooking everything. The majority of the class is the prep work for the dishes, and in this case we got a 10 minute break while the instructors steamed all the dumplings we prepared. On the upside, I didn't feel much pressure to purchase anything. Sure, there was a little reference other classes, a 10% coupon, and mentioning the cookbooks they recipes are taken from, but it wasn't that intense at all. For the class and recipes, it was a nice take. Fairly simple, but I really love to cook and experiment at home. Someone completely new to this would find it very approachable. We made two types of dumplings (A modified Korean recipe and a Vietnamese recipe), plus a string bean side dish (Chinese). The Vietnamese dumpling was a little bland, but it could easily be remedied with some simple additions to the recipe or even a basic side sauce for dipping. read more

Went here for a cooking class date night. We had no idea the place is actually inside the mall. You have to enter in the urban outfitters side, stay on that level, and walk down towards the rest of the mall. It looks like a store inside but low and behold there is a full chefs kitchen in the back. When we arrived (early) they were cleaning from a previous class so they recommended we walk around the store to browse until they were ready. My only issue they never let us know they were ready as we mossed around. We ended up being a few minutes late. Class was awesome but I don't like that you may not end up eating exactly cooked at your table with your group. You may end up eating the others group food, which is a little strange to me and maybe a little unsanitary. You just don't trust anyone with your meal. We hd an amazing time during the Not Your Grandma's ravioli night. We made our own ravioli dough from scratch and used the kitchenaid pasta maker attachment. This was a lot easier than I expected. The instructors were extremely personable and helpful. They stuck around and chatted with us after we enjoyed our dinner. We signed up for another class the same night! I purchased a large wooden spoon as a Xmas gift for my daughter and it definitely has a manufacturing defect. I sent them a pictures and all the supporting documents and their only response was that it's passed their 30 day return policy. I get that if it was just to return an item but this was definitely a manufacturing defect. I love this place! It was my first visit but let me say that the staff working... they know their stuff. They seem like they all have PhD's in kitchen gadgets compared to the home-schooled staff at William Sonoma. Let me say, I am an educated guy when it comes to espresso but the Sur La Table staff schooled me and taught me a few things. Even more important than their super knowledgeable staff, they were super honest. I wasn't being directed to the most expensive products I was being directed to the item that would take care of my needs. And even when I wanted an item that was a little expensive, I was told how to go about getting it at a cheap price - refurbished models, end of model year, coupons, ect. Major props there! Signed up for the cooking class and we loved it! The style of food that night was Persian food, we had so much fun making it and eating it afterwards. Learned a lot of new cooking tips and tricks! Our group of four signed up and its the perfect amount because the class had 8 people and split up into two groups of four. The instructor is fun and funny, with some dry humor. The class was about 2.5 hours and cost about $70 per person. Classes are maxed out at 16 but can be smaller depending on who registers. Ours had 11. They section you off into smaller groups of 3-4 where you all work on creating a meal start to finish. They provided excellent tips and great direction along the way. There was quite a support crew who did the ins/out and washed all the dishes. (I could use that kind of crew in my kitchen). The food was delicious and I am excited to try some of them out at home. This review is for a cooking class taken in October - fresh pasta from scratch. My husband and I are always looking for new date ideas and what better way to spend a night together than learning how to make pasta from scratch and more importantly, eating it! We signed up online about a week in advance for the class. There was a wide range of classes but this one really peaked our interest since neither of us had ever made fresh pasta before. The classes are about 70 dollars per person, which I feel is reasonable for the instruction plus the food. We arrived and found there were about 6 others in the class. It was nice that it was a relatively small group so everyone got to participate and be hands-on without feeling too cramped. They had complimentary water and coffee and some snacks to munch on while everyone arrived. The instructor Mark was very friendly and knowledgeable. The class was well organized and had a good flow to it. We started by learning how to make the pasta dough. We then prepped the ingredients for the rest of the dishes and while they were cooking, we got to roll and cut the pasta into 2 different types. Everyone got to make their own batch of pasta and it was a nice team effort in getting all the dishes prepared. While some of the food was cooking, they give you time to go out into the store and buy anything you want with a discount coupon. We made 2 fantastic dishes- Fettuccine with Smoked Salmon and Lemon Cream Sauce Hand-Cut Pappardelle with Butternut Squash and Hazelnut-Sage Pesto They were both AMAZING. The pasta was so fresh and delicious. I was a little bummed when they said we couldn't take any of the food home because there was SO much of it. When I learned of this rule, I proceeded to scarf down as much of the food as my stomach could possibly hold! Not letting this deliciousness go to waste. (They did say the staff eats the leftovers, so they are not thrown out). The class was about 2-2.5 hours long and it was a perfect amount of time. We came away with a new skill, full and happy bellies, and a great date night experience! We would love to do something like this again in the future. read more

I took a cooking class yesterday. There were only 5 people in the class which made it more hands on. The instructor was very knowledgeable and very helpful. She answered every question and took the time to help every participant individually. The class lasted longer than the two hours we paid for. I would definitely go back for another class. Of course, I used the 10% off coupon that came in our packet!! I purchased some of the tools we used in the class since I now know how to use them. I do have to say I was totally disgusted with the ladies room though. The floor was gross and it looked like it hasn't been cleaned in weeks. I really enjoyed my experience at Sur La Table. My girlfriend and I went for something different to do. We went for Date Night; A Taste of Spain. Everything was very easy to cook. The chef did a great job of adding in little tidbits and interesting pieces of information. We had a pork loin dish, a shrimp dish, a kale/chorizo/chick pea dish, and some tarts for dessert. Everything came out really well and was very tasty! The only thing preventing a 5 star rating was the class size. We had a full class. 16 people total comprised of 4 teams of 4. The size and layout of the class made it difficult to see what the chef was pointing out which was less than ideal for someone with my limited ability in the kitchen. In addition, we took turns cooking once the preparation was done and one girl in our group didn't even get a turn. This was still a great experience and a ton of fun. We'll be going again and plan on taking my mom for Mother's Day! read more

It was a two hour science experiment meets cooking class where the result was homemade ricotta, mozzarella, yogurt and frozen orange ricotta yogurt w chocolate. That we made! I enjoyed the cooking class called Incredible Indian Cuisine. The instructor Angie Lee was knowledgeable and patient. She was able to effectively answer participants questions as well as keep us on track with the steps for cooking the meal. The food we made was tasty and ample. As part of the class registration it is noted that you will be given a generous portion to taste. (Not a full meal) I was pleased with the amount of food I was able to sample and have seconds if I wanted. I was satiated by the amount of food. We left with great recipes and she directed us to stores in the area where we could purchase groceries and spices to continue our Indian cooking. Side note: I liked that she discussed hand washing especially after handling cell phones. Cell phones are filthy and if you plan to use them to take pictures of your steps, you must wash your hands in between. All of the participants heeded this rule. I just wish there was a way to kindly ask my partner to wash his hands a few more times because I noticed him touching his nose/face a lot and it really made me uncomfortable. Another lady coughed directly into her hands twice and then proceeded to cook. I know people do a lot of touching without thinking but I think a kind way of redirecting a participant to the sink after certain incidents needs to be developed. Its a tough balance of not offending some people while satisfying others but I wanted to mention it. Overall, it was a great experience and I am looking forward to returning. read more

Great italian menu and the class was intimate just 4 people that night (normally there are 10-16). Really fun class. We took the Thai cooking class, and got to learn about making some dishes that were totally new to us. I was kinda disappointed that many of the ingredients were canned or prepared, rather than fresh, but maybe that's the nature of a class like this. The dishes weren't "gourmet" or anything, but were certainly tasty and I had fun the whole time. The class was also pretty darn expensive for the dishes we made, but you know that going into it. I understand this is an experience, but I would never pay $80 to experience a "group" cooking class ever again. I attended this class with my boyfriend and two friends. We thought we would each have our own station to prepare our own meal, however, we were in a class of 14 people including our selves and were separated to two table tops. Instead of preparing individual meals, we made a group meal of steak, mashed potatoes, a salad, and what was supposed to be a chocolate mousse. Working in a group was such a stupid concept and a complete rip off for the price we paid per person. One person would cut the potatoes while everyone else at the table would just watch, then the next person would practice folding the mixture while everyone else watched. Standing the entire time, even while we were eating the meal. A lot of the items were pre-made which I understand is for time purposes but at one point they sent us out to shop in the store and then when we came back the entire meal was already assembled. This was a waste of time, money, and just an overall scam. Would not recommend for anyone trying to experience a real cooking class. read more
