I walked through their spotless showroom, spoke with their extremely helpful agents, only to find the warehouse empty and lacking the furniture we had so excitedly picked out. Last Saturday April 7th, 2018, I went to IKEA in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania and purchased two items including delivery and assembly. I was assured delivery would occur on 4/13/18 within a four hour window. On 4/12/18, I received a confirmation call to which I confirmed the delivery between 11am and 3pm on 4/13/18. At 3pm, having not received the items or even a phone call, I reached out to the delivery service. After waiting on hold for 10 minutes, a woman answered and said she'd transfer me to someone who could help. This transfer was to IKEA Customer Service. Another 30 minutes of waiting on hold and a woman told me my order would need to be rescheduled and that the particular IKEA I shopped at would need to be contacted, although they were apparently unable to be reached. At this point I asked to speak with a supervisor. Another wait on hold and finally a supervisor picked up. She reiterated that the local store would need to be spoken to and that they were currently unreachable. It was 4:30pm at this point. The supervisor said she'd call me back by 6:30pm when her shift ended to update me. 6:30pm came and went with no phone call and another expectation set and missed by IKEA. I can't believe how unbelievably poor this experience has been from start to finish. First and most importantly, I don't have items that were critical to my move so that I can work on Monday morning. Second, I took a day off of work to receive these items and sat at home between 11am and 3pm, which was at a cost to me. To top all of this off, the horrific customer service experience with multiple agents being unable to rectify this absolutely abysmal situation is just plain unacceptable. read more

I approach IKEA differently than most. I have had so much time wasted there, that I now always make a strict plan before setting foot inside. I look things up online, check to see if they're in stock, make a list. I have a mental map of where departments are, and plan accordingly. I enter through the exits (not hard, someone is always going out), or right next to it, by the returns area. This way, I am not forced up the escalator to the showrooms, where there is no product access, except for a rare few items (there is no need to go to the 2nd floor, unless you are browsing). I then walk in through the checkout, where there is a pile of discarded carry-bags to use, and head to "As Is" first (on the left), then to the warehouse/marketplace (on the right). I leave a mental bread crumb trail so I can remember how to get the heck back out, and I go directly to what I need. (I have learned a few "shortcuts," and those help, but still are never as the crow flies.) Through trial and error over the years, we have tried products from all departments (furniture, lamps, linens, plants, patio, kitchen, bathroom, dining, rugs, pets, storage, laundry, decor, kids). When I first met him, my husband had one of those apartments mentioned in "Fight Club" with the IKEA flat-packed MDF furniture all over. It disintegrated in a few years, and was/is the worst waste of money, IMO. We have bought some all-wood pieces there, but, IMO, "IKEA" is Swedish for "crap" when it comes to furniture. I don't recommend furniture from IKEA, but, disclosure, I am an antiques/thrifting person for furnishings, so IKEA will just never do it for me. What I now buy after years of "testing" IKEA product offerings: LED Edison bulbs, linens (down in particular), plastic shelf liner, gift wrap, "As Is" items (explained below), plastic storage containers, curtains/drapes, some hardware items (wall hooks are a decent deal), and an occasional kitchen need (their stainless roasting pan is a great buy), or other home decor piece (their all-wood storage boxes are useful). We also used their pre-cut oak butcherblock countertops for a portion of our kitchen, another win. All these are items whose price is great for the quality provided, making it a value that surpasses comparable options elsewhere. "As Is" -- This section is located by the registers. It is between checkout and returns, because returns get marked down and thrown right in the "As Is" bins. In addition to returns, they also have floor models, damaged items, and discontinued stuff. I go there for upholstery. They always have sofa cushion covers, which I clean, and cut down to make throw pillows. The price per yard for that quality of fabric is unbeatable. I purchase their $1.99 bed pillows, and shove the weakly-stuffed filler into one corner, then sew it down to a 14"/16"/18"/whatever square to use as throw pillows. If you sew, this all makes sense, and I am giving away my secret. IKEA sells pillow inserts in all sizes, and at ~$5 they are half the price of sewing stores, but my $1.99 + a little sewing trick is cheaper than anything else. My overall rating is based on current experience, after trial-and-error-ing everything, and getting into a groove that works for me at this store. * * * TIP * * * I do NOT recommend shopping carts unless you absolutely NEED one. The wheels rotate 360 degrees and swivel all over while you try to push, giving you the ab workout from hell. I have stubbed my toe or twisted an ankle too many times to ever want to use those things (notice no homeless person ever steals an IKEA cart). * * * TIP * * * I do NOT recommend IKEA's heavily-fertilized plants, which die pretty quickly. * * * TIP * * * Seasonal items always go on mega-sale the day after Christmas (gift wrap, etc.). * * * TIP * * * Avoid weekends if you can. It is filled with lollygaggers, completely unfamiliar with the maze effect, or the marketing tactics designed to daze and confuse (on them, it works). Unfortunately the staff has been very unfriendly lately. I felt uncomfortable with the attitude with the food service staff but even more so the SmallLand check in woman. My husband and I were both dropping my son off and she said that if so didn't show my drivers license they would not give my son back to me. My husband had already given his ID and like I said we were together. I completely understand and appreciate the safety aspect , however telling a mother that they could refuse to give me my child back got a maternal nerve. I have always loved IKEA! As a child I used to go room to room and pick out the furniture I wanted for my "Dream Room". As a teen I imagined me as a business tycoon and what my office would look like. As an adult I still dream of the perfect room, but now it my craft room!!!! I love the clean look of the shelving they offer. My craft table is actually a 4 foot kitchen table from IKEA that I absolutely LOVE. When the time comes to upgrade my craft room and move it to it's new location, (when the kids go to college) My first stop will be IKEA!!! I love that I can see how rooms MIGHT look if I bought full sets, but also that I can get individual pieces- for example my husband and I bought the bed we wanted and instead of a dresser and y'all piece we bought 2 dressers and 2 bedside tables! When you call the toll feee number, you hear a message that says we are unable to take your call please visit our website and then IKEA disconnects the call. I'm a big Ikea fan, and this location gets extra points for a pretty solid "As-Is" section (discounted products that were either floor models or returned by other customers. The showroom is pretty standard, and can be inspiring if you're wondering what to do with a small space. The real fun is downstairs, where you can find all sorts of things you didn't know you needed, like a $20 wok or $3.50 silicone oven mitts. We often come for one or two specific things, and typically leave with a cartful, which I suppose is good or bad depending on your view ;) Pro-tip: Park in the garage in the back. I love having this IKEA so close. They always have everything I need in stock and have GREAT clearance prices on cute furniture. The store is well organized and well staffed. You're free to browse in peace but there's also plenty of help if you have a question. The other day I went in looking for some type of shelving unit and picked up a great little piece for under $50 - super happy with how it looks in our room and doesn't feel cheap at all. This particular Ikea has one of the worst return/exchange departments I have ever experienced. I arrived on Sunday morning around 11:15am to return a purchase. There were only 2 people working the return/exchange area. Meanwhile, there are 14 of us waiting in line. Then one of the associates turned her back to the people waiting and was applying stickers to items on the counter behind her, which took her 15 minutes. Talk about a daft location! I heard that government somehow messed things up, as well as the management of Plymouth Meeting Mall, so it all ended up in this industrial area, after a intensive site cleanup. It's off the beaten path, to be sure. I used to shop the Plymouth Meeting store and it was a bit crowded and traffic was too much, trying to load boxes. The company only had 3 U.S. stores then. Of course, the inside of the store was fine, and it's nicely big. I noticed that they even had a "rest area" to go with the rest rooms. That's something I haven't seen at the other stores, but maybe after their remodeling they'll have them. I went for lunch, and had the Midsommar Salmon Lasagne, which was good. It's great to be able to buy something interesting and not pay $60 for a meal. I wished that they had Almond Cake but it wasn't there today. In fact, the restaurant employees were friendly, but a lot of things seemed undone. Maybe, it was that I was there after 2 p.m. Still, what really goes wrong at IKEA? However, I like this branch much better than my previous branch in Brooklyn because there's tons of available parking, it's not nearly as crowded, and the staff are much more pleasant to deal with. The bathrooms were a bit on the disgusting side, but that was the sole downside of the afternoon. IKEA has perfected destination furniture shopping. It's truly enjoyable to go walk around the store, even if you don't have anything you need to buy. The restaurant is pretty good--I always get the swedish meatballs, yum! In terms of their furniture, for the most part, it's decent stuff at great prices. Ahh IKEA, you either love it or hate it. I love strolling thru and taking in all the accessories that you'd miss if you're not taking your time like little wooden pop up tables that are different heights you sit plants on in a room, just gives it that extra finished look. We went today to get ideas for the new house in terms of bathroom and kitchen accessories and lighting, to floor to ceiling wardrobes and furniture for the bedroom. So hard to remember everything you like so i always take pictures of the item and the hang tag with name and price showing. Checkout is always long lines and i agree with a previous reviewer, Why are there no express lanes? They have a great play area for parents to leave their kids to play while they shop. Makes sense, if the child gets tired of the store the parents will leave sooner and not buy as much, but with the kids completely entertained the parents have all the time in the world to spend their money. Unfortunately they do not have electric scooters and where you borrow a wheelchair is at 'Smalland' so there was quite a wait bcuz of the constant checking kids in before my better half went up to the counter and just asked for a wheelchair. They are very thorough in checking kids in and making sure they have the proper wristband and sticker on their back but it takes awhile to be that thorough. An express line for wheelchair use would be nice! Overall we got tons of new ideas, i picked up a few things and i was happy. There was an issue on a clearance price not showing up and the wait for the runner/ supervisor to go check the item took some time but in the end I saved that $20 and was proud of myself lol Parking lot is huge, didn't know they had underground parking, but for the size of the parking lot there are definitely not enough handicap spaces. Not worth it. Go buy real furniture. We bought a SEKTION with all the drawers that go with it. Everything was fine until the last step of putting the doors on. The top hinge wont fit because of a manufacturing defect. So we spent the last two hours putting this together and now the door wont shut correctly. Do you think you're NASA with your fit tolerances? Do you think you're selling rockets to the moon? There is about an 1/8" space the hinge needs and slip in, and there is about 1/32" of a gap for it to fit. We broke the whole thing down and put the hinges on first, and tried to secure the top, but the top wont go on. So either the door sits ajar, or the top sticks up. I am furious and bleeding from under a pealed back fingernail right now. I tried to leave a review on your website, but that functionality doesn't even exist. Trying to find out if a particular (Conshohocken) store has something you want in stock is a total nightmare. The 1-888 number is a loop that eventually hangs up on you. Same with the direct number to the store - if you don't know the 4 digit number to a particular person, it directs you to the 1-888 number and THEN hangs up on you. When ordering online and looking to pick up the item at my local store (Conshohocken), I was given only 3 options, none of which were the closest to my home; in fact, one of the options was in a different state and would have taken twice as long to get to as my local store. I would leave 0 stars if possible. I ordered 3 alex drawers, 2 linmon table tops, and 2 olov legs online on August 13th 2020. The first deliver set for SEPTEMBER 19TH "failed" with no explanation. I called and sat on hold for an hour before a customer service rep answered, told me she was going to check my order, and then proceeded to hang up on me. I called again right after and finally got in touch with someone else after an hour. He set up my rescheduled deliver for the following day, but before we hung up I asked for email confirmation. Never got email confirmation, never got a delivery call, delivery never showed up. I call again the next day, and ask for a manager (while telling the first person to keep checking in while I'm on hold so they don't hang up). I talked to a manager and got my delivery charge waived and a $75 gift card, as well as rescheduled my deliver to the NEXT Thursday (October 1st at this point). This time I got a call on my delivery day and confirmed. I sat and waited between 11am and 3pm when they said they would come. No one shows up. However, I get an email that my Delivery was "successful." Now I'm furious. I try to call multiple times, and got hung up on twice in a row after being on hold for 40+ minutes both times. I call corporate, no answer. So, I went down to the corporate HQ to see what is going on (at this point I know they are giving me the run-around and repeatedly lying to save their skin). The head manager at customer service there FINALLY tells me that they do not have the drawers in stock and don't know what happened to them. He then tells me that he can give me everything but the drawers LOL. So, I ask him to set up a delivery date to have the FULL order shipped to the store so I can pick it up myself. He kindly refunds all my money and apologizes for the horrible customer service. A day later, I still have not seen the refund go through, and I still do not have a delivery date. I tried to take to twitter, and they basically told me there is nothing they can do. Don't order from this terrible company if you want to keep peace in your life. We bought something we want to return and the experience was SO bad, I will eat the cost rather than go back and return it. EVERY customer service interaction was horrible!! My pregnant wife was SCREAMED at by a customer service person because he didn't approve of her mask. They shouted across the room and all eyes looked at us. Then we heard another customer service employee (a woman this time) also yelling at a small group of women because of their masks. It was so shocking - no human being should ever be treated as such. It was purely evil. No one has the right to raise their voice. Absolutely unacceptable. Then when checking out, the person never said a word to me. I wrapped my own glassware in paper. She hardly slid the merchandise down the ramp so I could pack it up. Then when I asked to scan my family card it was as if I asked her to rescan all the merchandise and start over. But that wasn't the end of the shopping experience. Next I went to buy hot Dogs and an ice cream cone. This person clearly hates their job. Again there was no eye contact. Didn't even ask me what I wanted. So after some awkward silence... I said, "I would like 1 hot dog combo (which includes 2 hot dogs) plus another hot dog. So she confirmed 3 hot dogs total. Then I asked for an ice cream cone and she informed me they only had cups. So I said "that's fine and can I get hot fudge?" and she nastily responded "no we didn't have that". As I walked away I heard her complaining to a coworker how horrible it is to wear a mask all day and that the customers should just suck it up and wear it while in the store because if she has to do it for 8 hours then a customer better not complain for wearing it the short time they are in the store. I had a mask fully over my face so I don't know who she was directing that at but it was quite loud When I picked up my hot dog - there were only 2. I didn't even want to go back inside and get my third one. You can keep the money. They didn't taste great anyway. So suffice to say we are never ever going back to IKEA. read more

I will NEVER order online again. I ordered a large order from Ikea on 6/1, and chose my delivery date to be 7/13. On the website it said my package was out for delivery today, but I hadn't gotten a confirmation from XPO Logistics. I called IKEA (whom was as helpful as they could be) who then forwarded me to XPO Logistics. Just to be told that they "FORGOT" to inform me that my package wasn't coming. They lost pieces of my order, or my order all together and couldn't locate them for me. On 09/25/2020, I placed an order and IKEA promptly had no problem effectively and efficiently charging my card. I received an email stating that my item should ship out around 10/07/2020. That date has come and gone by a week and I have not received any type of status update from IKEA and there's no way to get in contact with them to check status. I was disappointed on my recent trip to IKEA. I walked through the entire store looking to purchase various items for my new home but nearly everything that I selected was not available. I wonder if their stock is shipped in bulk or just a few pieces at a time? While I saw some beautiful items I was unable to get what I wanted. I had some miscellaneous items that I wanted to purchase but when I got to the checkout the lines were ridiculous! I drove to Conshohocken thinking there would be a better selection but it was not. Went to the food court after shopping (LOVE Ikea!!). Usually the food is top notch. Not this time. Potatoes were powdered. Chicken tenders were not real chicken. Texas Toast garlic bread was overly crunchy. Only 1 dessert and it looked very dry/unappealing. All in all the food was a disappointment and that was surprising. read more

The system for buying a simple cabinet had us waiting in line 3 separate times. Long lines. It was horrific. We usually enjoy a light meal here. We waited in line for 15 minutes and they were out of half the food. Every single table and chair was filthy. When we finished the dirty tray shelf was overflowing with no space. Terrible. Placed an online order in April. Originally promised on May 7, partially shows up on May 28. 2 of 8 items delivered. Attempted calling IKEA to report the discrepancy per their web site. Spent 2 hours trying to talk to someone without luck. IKEA will not receive emails either. No place on the web site to log a complaint. Received a no response email stating my order was delivered and completed today. Called the credit card company and contested the charge. No recourse .... highly frustrating. Clearly IKEA's on line business is very broken. read more

Drive up was clean, quick, and polite! Additionally made sure that I had everything I needed. I will definitely be using again.

If I'm shopping at Ikea, I must make sure to eat a full meal before entering the premises. I'm a real bitch when I don't eat, and I've been known to nearly go into a complete rage while navigating Ikea, so it's best to cover my bases in anticipation of a meltdown. I don't think it's just me, either. Have you noticed how many arguing couples and families are wandering around the store at any given time? Coincidence? I think not. Ikea just makes everyone a little crazy. But here's where those four stars come in: I'm willing to dive off the deep end every few months in exchange for insanely priced furniture and home goodies. And have you had that chocolate they sell at the register? Or the cinnamon buns? Come on - it's worth going kuku for cocoa puffs for that stuff. And it's always a bonus to watch my husband assemble an entire room's worth of furniture. He's amazing at it, even if those instructions that come in the boxes are a complete joke to the human race. Ikea, if not for you, my 20's would have been filled with furniture I trash picked from the curb and the mattress I owned since I was 12.
