As a graduate student, IKEA is roughly synonymous with my idea of heaven. I'm pretty sure around 90% of the things in my apartment are from this particular store. If you've never been, prepare for the experience of a lifetime. You will find yourself daydreaming about the store long after you've left. This location might be the mother of all IKEA stores--it is ridiculously huge. You are sort of forced to wind through the entire store, like a hamster, by virtue of the layout. This can be very annoying if you come for a specific item, but it's fun to browse otherwise. I love the housewares floor! Whenever friends or guests compliment the cute things in my kitchen it is a pretty solid guarantee that whatever they picked up is an IKEA item. The prices are always amazing too. Since IKEA has figured out that you will spend roughly 20 hours here each time you come, there is a cafeteria upstairs. It's pretty outstanding for a furniture store, I must say. Worst Shopping Experience Of My Life. This was my first and last time shopping with IKEA and I'm going to warn anyone and everyone I ever have the opportunity to speak with on the matter not to shop with IKEA. (1.) It took me 3 hours to check out due to a system error in IKEA. (2.) Not only did I spend an extra three hours trying to check out, I was sent all around the store trying to find items even though I paid a picking fee (it was at least reimbursed at the end of my nightmare experience). (3.) The first cashier I interacted was very rude and embarrassed my girlfriend and I in front of a line of customers. (4.) Our delivery date was changed last minute due to another missing item. Afterwards I received a letter with a gift card apologizing for the missing item and then found out that they found it after the fact and took the money off the gift card again. (5.) The day before our delivery, we received a call that was "supposed" to have our delivery and assembly date, but the automated message had a technical issue that prevented it from sharing with me, so I spent 9am - 6pm trying to find a way to reach IKEA to discuss what's going on. (6.) IKEA is nearly impossible to reach, the automated system prevented me from finding anyone for nearly an hour before we found a loophole in the messaging system that allowed us to reach someone (and naturally, the delivery ended up being the last of the day around 5pm so I lost another full day dealing with this). (7.) The delivery arrived and there were two problems, first the desk I ordered was missing a leg (whoever took the order apparently didn't know I needed 5 instead of 4) AND another item I received was just completely wrong. Turns out the item I chose at IKEA had the wrong tag on it so naturally the item I received was not the item I chose since the store strictly looks at the tag information when placing orders. As of today (06/30) I'm still waiting for a resolution on this situation, but no doubt this will continue to get worse and worse as the experience drags on. read more

As I've browsed the 1 and 2 star reviews, I realize that these people are usually complaining about the buying experience. As someone who's been going to IKEA for about 20 years, you get used to having to go pick your furniture boxes in the self service area. If the sales people had to go and get your furniture for you, you wouldn't be able to get an entire set of tables and coffee table (LACK) for your living room for under $30. It's called ease of use. That being said, I always have a pleasant experience at IKEA. I know where everything is, and I know how to get though the store quickly. You get a good workout coming here, and that's why I don't mind going through the entire store to get to the home organization stuff or lighting. You always see something along the way that catches your eye, and that's what makes it fun! So to the IKEA haters, go back to buying your overpriced furniture elsewhere and leave the bargains to the pro's. read more

Oh, Ikea, I pretend to hate you but I actually kind of like you. So the good - they do have everything. Their quality has improved significantly in the last decade. So much so that when I needed a kitchen cabinet to turn into a furniture piece (and nearly fell over getting prices at the local big box and cabinet stores), when I saw a piece I liked at Ikea, it got logged on a sheet and picked up (in pieces to assemble, of course) at the furniture pick up on our way out. Staff is friendly. The bad - this place is monstrous. I find it difficult to just get in and out for one thing. There are short cuts to an extent but I normally end up on a long wonder (and always choose the wrong shoes and end up with sore feet). Consider it a maze - they want you to see everything and wear comfy shoes! Staff can be hard to find (especially on the weekends - it's a busy place!). When we bought the cabinet, they pulled one of the wrong pieces (we ordered 2 medium & 2 small drawers - ended up with 3 and 1). We should have double checked the cart that they gave us at furniture check out, but still annoying to have a piece built and not realize the drawers aren't closing right because they gave you the wrong pieces. The ugly - nothing. Except that if you are tired and hangry while you are finally waiting to check out after a few hours of wandering, you will be even hangrier as you watch the cafe selling ice cream in front of the registers. :) read more

Ok so Adam J. already beat me to the punch. This isn't a review about the German engineering or colorfully decorated furniture. This is about its phenominal breakfast offering. Lest not forget that with the soaring price of gas, rice, and pretty much everything else a good bargain is worth more than a Prius. I'm talking .99 cents, YES .99 cents, for Bacon/Sausage, Eggs, and Potatoes(healthy servings people). And for 1 dollar more you get French toast sticks to boot. Now I don't know about you guys but that is a deal I can't pass up, and I rarely do. read more

I will go to IKEA simply to get their $1 frozen yogurt. Seriously. It's good and cheap and I can eat it (see nickname) because of the yogurt cultures. I also go for their furniture, creative storage solutions and funny product names, but the highlight is always the frozen yogurt. Sometimes, I splurge and get two...one when I walk in (because I like to park near the exit - fast get away, you know?) and one on the way in. The As-Is section is always fun to peruse, too. And the next time you're in the self-serve section, don't forget to look up at the Big Ass Fan (that's what they're called...it's right on there) and marvel at its size. I do plan on getting new kitchen cabinets from IKEA. They've got decent reviews and I'm planning on installing them myself, although I believe they have an installation service. And they are made from a better MDF (maybe even LDF on some of their products) than their lower end furniture. The doors are all interchangeable, so if you're crazy or just a little eccentric and want to mix things up, you could have a different door on each cabinet. Their kitchen design software is pretty neat, too. IKEA can get a bad rap for some of their cheapo stuff, but honestly, a lot of their products are better than the more expensive equivalent that Target sells. At the same time, some of their overly expensive furniture isn't worth it. Like anywhere you shop, you've got to pay attention to what you're buying. read more

IKEA. If you've never been, you sure won't understand what all the hype is about. Once you go, you'll always want to go back! My first trip to IKEA was when I was in the 9th grade, many years ago. I begged my mom to buy my a comforter cover and it was the best thing I ever did. 15 years later I still have that cover and I'm still in love with it! It's basically like a sleeping bag for your comforter, who wouldn't love that! Let's list the awesome things this place offers: -Huge carts -Under building parking (who likes to get wet when it rains, let alone have to pack up the car in it?!) -It's next to Cracker Barrel (if you're into that kinda thing) -They have a resturant inside. Up you read that right. -They have a grocery store, which has the BEST swedish chocolate chip cookies -They have set ups of all the rooms in a house you could ever think of! -They have everything that you could ever use, need, want or think of and then some! -Their stuff is dirt cheap. Like, I'm living paycheck to paycheck, but still leave here with a car filled with goodies -They sell their gigantic reusable bags for cheap -I LOVE their gigantic reusable bags that are cheap -They offer a drop off for your kids so you can shop in peace -They offer a drop off for your kids so I can shop in peace Cons: -The directions are pictures of weird naked men putting your product together. This place is tons of fun, I love shopping in IKEA. The furniture varies in price, but the doo-dads are cheap, like silverware, dishes, decorations, etc. You can literally fill a completely empty house with only things bought at IKEA. Do they sell dishwashers? I don't know, but most likely. If you have four walls, a floor and a roof you can create a home. It's pretty incredible. And the catalogs are fun to look through, too. But I have to agree with two previous posters: IKEA Cafe is amazing! I've not been for breakfast, but my coworkers and I like to drive over there once in awhile (we work just down Ridge Pike a couple blocks) for lunch. The swedish meatballs are delicious! The Mac n Cheese is awesome, too. It's not 5 star dining, like previously mentioned, but if you're looking for cheap comfort food (or cheap food, period), this is the place to go. Especially if you want to try something new. They always have fresh sandwiches made, and delicious cakes and pies and soup and a salad bar and.... This store is out of control. Literally feel like I'm on another planet when I walk in. Everything from the store layout, to the Swedish food store, to the fast food stands, to the way you purchase items, to the prices! It's an experience to say the least. Fiance and I split lunch for a total of 4 dollars. Shopped for about 2 hours and got tons of stuff for next to nothing. May not be able quality, but they are about simplicity. Will be back. I am solely using this review to air a few grievances, but in reality I love ikea! So this is the flagship store in the USA! Why they picked Conshohocken for this honor, I'll never know! It is huge, as in deserves its own zip code, huge! There is no such thing as a "Quick trip" to IKEA. I try to go on the weekdays because there is never a line both in returns and at checkout! Ikea pioneered the BYOB, Bring Your Own Bag thing and it is a bloody nuisance! Ever try to buy a few candles, a picture frame, and a new set of coffee mug only to get stuck having to spend 99 cents on a blue bag that's large enough to park a Volkswagen in? It sucks! Also, why can I not take my cart to my car? People are nice enough not to steal your stuff if you leave it unattended in the loading zone. When I shop alone I try to leave my things near the mother with the screaming child who was not ready to leave småland - no ones going to approach them anyway!Honestly though, why does furniture shopping require a buddy system?! And if the no bags, bring a friend thing wasn't frustrating enough now you have to go build your furniture with a wordless instruction manual! Much nicer than the Philly IKEA. It has everything you need as well as a great cafe area. I like that they added a lot more healthy options as well. It is so cheap to eat there! I think this was one of the first (possibly THE first) IKEA to come to the Philly area, and it's massive. Just off 476, as in, it's obnoxiously close to the highway, so it's easy to find. Inside, it's the typical maze of half-English, half-Swedish signs and teeny tiny shortcuts. Then you get to the furniture area, where it looks more like the lumber area of Home Depot than anything. Finally, you pay and escape back into the parking lot (or the underground garage) and breathe a sigh of relief. The amount of product they have is staggering-- and there's a lot more than just furniture. There's kitchenware, bedding, stuffed animals, you name a furniture item at IKEA, and they're pretty much guaranteed to have four accompanying accessories for it. Minus one star for the ridiculously intricate maze that ensures you see EVERY display, but four stars for cleanliness, stock, and amenities. read more

This review is only for the Julbord Celebration. Ikea Swedish Christmas Julbord.... sounded nice, looks great (on the ad)! Disappointing - it wasn't even festive, just a sad experience where you go get food regularly, albeit unlimited. First of all, the tickets need to be purchased prior to the event, which to us, is a 1 hr round trip. I then asked cashier during ticket purchase (two time slots) if people get kicked out past the time, she said we can stay. We got 4pm, but that night, due to traffic, got there 4:45 - was told we have 30 minutes to eat! For the main food, we had to go to the regular line and were served portions by the workers. I feel bad for some people that may be too shy to ask for more - I gather they would just go back in line to get more food. Herring were directly from jars! And there weren't enough pudding (bread pudding?). With the type of food served, I wonder why the need to pre-purchase the tickets.... I even tried to get as much people to this event, but after this, WE WILL NEVER DO THIS AGAQIN!!! read more

I'm always on the fence when it comes to IKEA. On one hand, you walk in and the displays basically suck you into loving just about everything, because oh hey that 400 square foot space can be filled with so much stuff and romg look at that cozy bedroom set and ahhh I want that useless dog-shaped pillow. On the other hand, it's cheap quality furniture, cheaply made, and will self-destruct in approximately three years. Plus, assembling a medium-size bookcase by yourself when it's about as tall as you are, when the holes don't exactly line up and the screws don't exactly fit into their places... yeah, not fun. Still, the prize delight of IKEA is their gastronomically cheap restaurant, and who doesn't like swedish meatballs? Plus, at the end of the long perilous journey through the store, there's a $1 ice cream cone waiting for you at the end. Huzzah! read more

I like to think that as an adult, I can do better than IKEA, but we still end up here about once a month and usually walk out with a few odds and ends. I've bought some new furniture pieces from there over the years, but as we all know you get what you pay for, and if you know you're going to be moving a lot, don't even bother. These days, I'm a little more environmentally conscious, but still a sucker for IKEA, so I get the stuff I want off Craigslist for a third of the price when I need my fix. We don't eat there often because the boyfriend doesn't like it, and even though I do, when we went last weekend every single dish and cup was spectacularly crusty. I tried about four different mugs for my complimentary coffee, settled on the least filthy one and rinsed it out with hot water until it was tolerably gross. We decided to say heck with it and went down there today to chat with them in person after numerous unsuccessful phone calls. They got to us right away, treated us really well, and I'm fairly sure they were most thankful that I wasn't raving like a lunatic and threatening to alert the media. Our couch is being delivered tomorrow, and the manager gave me her personal email address in order to fix things. This was an extraordinary cluster effword, but after the treatment today..Oh IKEA..I can't stay mad at you. We're buying a bed soon...stay tuned. I was in dire need of a dresser, so I came here. This location is enormous! Quite honestly, I could walk around here all day to look at all the fun stuff but for some reason there was a large amount of children here with their parents. I don't mix too well with kids, as in, I don't like them. And there were a lot of screaming children. I can only assume it's because they have a play area (?) downstairs for them. I didn't eat all day and was starving so we stopped by the restaurant to grab a bite. I got the chicken fingers and veggies since I didn't think you could really mess them up. I was wrong. The food was atrocious. The chicken was super processed and chewy (EWEWEW). The steamed veggies were weird, too. The carrots didn't taste like carrots. It was strange. I actually dipped my veggies in BBQ sauce and honey mustard so they weren't so gross. And that, in itself, is pretty gross. I'm giving this place three stars for the furniture. I don't mind the process of pulling your own furniture parts, since that's just the way it's done here. I'm happy with my dresser! It's cute and was pretty inexpensive. I just really, really do not recommend getting food here. Please don't do it. read more

So I went into Ikea trying to find hardware for the bed I purchased in 2009. I knew it was a long shot but I was amazed with how knowledgable the staff in bedding was. Soon as I showed him a photo of my late model sleigh bed he knew exactly what it was called. He gave me the instructions and I was able to collect all of the hardware in the returns department! As I write this I am sitting in a chair that my father and I bought in oh....1993 from one of the long-gone parking lot Black Friday sales that Ikea had. Remember when they were next to the Plymouth Meeting Mall and you could never find parking? Ikea made me look retro cool right after college and allowed me to sleep on a real bed! and have real furniture! which stood up to a surprising number of moves before it died a good death (I'm counting about 4 moves for a dresser). The best part is you could choose your color scheme when you were 21 and just graduating and still find furniture to match years later when you were on your 4th bookcase. The restaurant is also great for breakfast or lunch. A great breakfast for 99 cents and good coffee (plus a cheap travel mug for a couple dollars more) or yummy swedish meatballs and lingonberry sauce in a VERY european style setting (the airport cafeteria in Shannon, Ireland gave me a serious case of deja vu). I definitely have the "Target sickness" when I go to Ikea - I need to budget $20 for things I never knew I needed - but I get so much stuff for that $20, and it all has such cute fake scandinavian names! read more

I've only been to this Ikea once, and thankfully, it wasn't on a weekend. I'm a big fan of Ikea, although now that I have an 80 year old house, a lot of the stuff doesn't really fit the decor anymore. However, I had been lusting after the Expedit Bookcase for MONTHS before I found out that they made it in an Entertainment Center, as well. Of course we immediately went out to buy it in black/brown. I resisted the urge to window shop, and went right for the bookcase. Not 20 minutes later, we were checked out, and on our way home with our box of pieces that would eventually become my favorite piece of furniture. Some people complain about the million pieces that you have to put together yourself, but it gave my husband and I something to do together, like an adventure, and within an hour I had my Expedit! Granted, it's meant for a flat screen TV, but with a little rigging our TV still worked nicely, and now I have even more incentive to save up for a new TV! read more

It's IKEA. But I'd rather drive to the one in Baltimore. I'd really rather go to the one in Cincinnati. Here's why the others are better -Food is all the same across my IKEA experiences - BUT this cafe was dirtier and less maintained than others. Soda fountains were broken, ligonberry juice was watery and not correct. -This is a rather small IKEA in comparison. Less selection than others. -No self checkout! The checkout lines were awful - I forgot about IKEA lines before self checkout (not that they are always great, people are hilarious). -Parking lot is REALLY weird. We somehow parked in an area where there were no cart corrals, the only one around was on the other side of one of those paved grassy dividers. When you enter, people just turn and start driving through parking places like crazy. Bad planning. -Not much space for loading (in comparison to other IKEAs) -Information stations more scarce throughout the store. I'm sad that this is the HQ one. There are SO many better ones, even in PA (Pittsburgh)! Also, is it embarrassing that I have been to this many IKEAs? I've been to the original one in Sweden too, and I was hoping the HQ one in PA would be more like that. Not at all. If you are looking for a review of the furniture, I don't think Yelp is the place to look. But my house is pretty much furnished by IKEA, and I'm cool with it. Works well! read more

I love Ikea! Anything you could ever need is here AND affordable AND comes with a name you probably can't pronounce but you probably know that already if you're here. Anyway in this particular Ikea today, my dad got TOO excited about his Swedish meatballs in the cafeteria and dropped his tray right by the checkout. My family reacted in horror- DROPPED MEATBALLS! A PUBLIC SPECTACLE! SHAME SHAME SHAME! But the employees efficiently cleaned it up and got him squared away with new meatballs and were so nice about it. My only complaint is that it's a little ~breezy~ from the air running in the caf so the food chills quickly and then you might start eating like a speed eating champ, but it's no biggie when you're sitting in IKEA and there are so many chairs just waiting to be tested and drawers begging to be opened, wouldn't want to get stuck in the caf too long anyway. IKEA is awesome! When you start looking around for furniture and notice how much everything costs, you really start to appreciate IKEA. Of course the furniture quality isn't that great, but you can't complain because the price is much lower. On top of that, most stuff here has a contemporary look if you don't want the old/antique look in your house. Everything is DIY (do it yourself) or you can hire someone to help put your stuff together, but all the furniture comes with easy to follow diagrams. Aside from that, the IKEA cafeteria is pretty good. They have their specialty Swedish meatball dish as well as 50 cent hot dogs and $1 frozen yogurt. read more

I love me some Ikea. It sort of feels like I am Alice in Wonderland in there; everything is ginormous and most of the stuff you can't identify even with the name. "I would like a flat brown box of smorken-flufen, please." They lore you in with crazy good meatballs, cinnamon buns and custard that leave you dazed and confused. Personally, I think they drug them to make you put more sporg and sveta in your cart. My favorite place is the as-is room. It's like a bad flea market. Yes, I think I will buy a sofa with one arm missing and people's footprints on it. Only $600, wow, great deal. The BEST thing about Ikea is when you use the shopping carts. Why is the floor so slippery! The dang carts drive like bumper-cars. Maybe I'll "accidentally" hit one of the children who are screaming because the've been stuck in a cart for 4 hours. One thing they just started which I think is pretty stupid is the new loyalty card. Why? I think it allows you to get free coffee whenever your there, but not sure. read more
