We went to this Ikea on Saturday and we've now renamed it - IKEA Lite. This location is not 2 stories or as big as OG IKEA and I believe is in the old Mervyn's building. The isles are pretty tight, so if it gets busy, expect it to be pretty crowded. Everything was going ok until we went to check out. It is all self checkout. There are no actual cashiers at this location. Now this part of my review is more so for IKEA in general. We were buying 2 glass kitchen containers, without the lids. We have been using the glass containers for a few years now, in various sizes, and love them. But our last trip to the OG location, we only picked up 2 of the big bertha sizes. So we grabbed 2 more, but without the lids. The lids cost extra and we have a lot of them already! So I start scanning the 6 items we were purchasing and then click checkout. A popup appears and asks if i forgot to scan the lids. I press no. Then next thing the register gets flagged for a "random" review. So an employee walks over, sees we don't have the lids, clarifies we don't want them. Nope no lids. We're good. And then she tries to bypass to continue checkout so we can pay. It locks her out of the self checkout register. A few attempts and she is still locked out. So the lead comes over to try her hand at it. Still the same. We get moved to the next register. I had a feeling i knew the issue was due to the "missing" lids. The employee asks me to scan my Ikea card, which i do, and then she starts scanning the stuff herself. Same popup happens. Same random review happens. Same lockout happens. The former tester in me was pleased with myself to have broken their self checkout, but the consumer/shopper in me was pissed! The employee and lead said they needed to call the manager to reset the machines or whatever. But i didn't want to wait for however long that was going to take, so i walked out. The employees though were super nice and apologetic. The next day i went to OG IKEA and bought my containers at an actual cashier manned register with no issue. All self checkouts for businesses should have an employee scanning/cashier override function. Where the employee swipes their badge, indicating to the system they are checking the customer out. But that would make too much sense. read more

I was asked the following questions: Have I ever shopped at IKEA? Yes Have you ever tried their Swedish meatballs? No How could you not?! They're known for it. Lol So came about this visit.. This is probably the smallest IKEA I have ever seen. I've only ever shopped at one, but I've driven by multiple stores across other states. It's located at a plaza and about the size of Kohls or Walmart. I don't recall ever seeing the beautiful contrasting yellow in their decor. That was eye catching. As soon as I walked in, I could see the dining area. There were four stalls to order, and similarly can be used to purchase small items. Two for one! We ordered a 12-pc Swedish Meatball place since we just came from lunch and I wasn't incredibly hungry at the time. The plate came in an 8pc, 12pc and 16pc. It was served, drizzled with gravy, fruit jelly, mashed potatoes and peas. The meatballs were definitely good for a furniture store. The combination of jelly with the gravy was not something I would've thought of for meatballs. I liked the mashed potatoes although was not a fan of the peas since it was overcooked. Overall, a great tasting dish. We tried the advertised princess cake. It was cake, maybe some syrup over it, then cream and then covered in fondant. It may have been coolly refrigerated that masqueraded it as ice cream filled rather than cream. The fondant made it quite too sweet for my liking. I especially loved that they provide cutleries, bibs and plates for the little ones and even have a microwave to warm up food! Parents sure know the grief of children and their aversions to different types of food. As a bonus, we looked around the whole store with admiration for the displays and perhaps took a turn too early and ended up in products right away. Gotta love IKEA! read more

Great little ikea that is a lot closer. You won't find everything here but like the larger ikea it is very well organized and you actually have a lot of options. They are smaller so don't expect to find everything that you would at the largest one but it does have a good amount. I came on a weekday 20 minutes before close and was able to walk the full store before they closed. The food court closes 30 minutes prior to closing. This location is much smaller than their Tempe location but still had many options. The staff were friendly, many fan favorite foods like the meatballs were sold out, and the prices seemed comparable to the Tempe location. They have an As Is room like the other location, but their selection is far more limited. read more

This was my first visit to the new "mini IKEA" in the old Mervyn's store across from what was the PV Mall at Cactus and Tatum. Overall, it was a good visit with a few hiccups. As soon as you enter, you will find their small restaurant. You have to order at the kiosk to get your food. At the end of my visit, I was trying to redeem my free birthday cake coupon, which required a purchase of an entree. I couldn't figure out if they had take-out available because I had already eaten lunch and wanted to order a salad to go. I went to the counter and a woman from the kitchen area came over to help me. She advised they did not offer take-out (although they do have take-out containers to take leftovers home). She advised it's dine-in only. That was a bit weird to me so I gave up on the free cake offer. I had a $10.00 birthday certificate that I was able to use in the store. I purchased three small pots for plants and a pack of hangers for 50 cents! I also wanted to buy a container of the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. They weren't available at the main check-out area so I tried to use the self-service kiosk in the kitchen area, near the front of the store. I did something wrong and a light lit up for employee help, but nobody showed up to help me. So I took the cookies back to the main check-out area (again self-check-out - nooooo!) and paid for them there. It would be much easier if there were actual cashiers like at the Tempe store. Several people were needing help from the one store employee at the main self check-out area. I felt bad for that employee! Otherwise, this is much like the "normal sized" IKEA in Tempe. There are beautiful room displays, and areas such as the lighting department and the Marketplace. They did have the arrows on the floor, which helped immensely. read more

Somehow, I have never been to an IKEA, even though I've passed it many times driving on the freeway. When I heard this smaller location was opening closer to home, I knew I'd finally be visiting. A friend and I stopped by one afternoon and I found parking pretty easily. We decided to walk around first before getting lunch. The showrooms were fun to look at and play "pretend", and I admired some of the decor like the fake window scenes. There weren't too many people shopping which was nice. I'm not into home shopping so I wasn't tempted by much, except some of the food items like chocolate and cookies. After looking around, we came back to the front where the cafe/bistro/restaurant is. They have two kiosks for ordering and it was simple. We got their plant-based meatballs and a cinnamon roll. The entree comes with peas, mashed potatoes, and lingonberries, as well as the meatballs in gravy. I was pleasantly surprised with everything on my plate and enjoyed it, even the peas which I'm not a big fan of. The cinnamon roll was overheated so it was crunchy on the bottom, but had good flavor. I like that they have real plates and silverware, too. It made for a filling lunch and I'd definitely eat here again. I'm glad there's a location here, although I recently learned there's a small Scottsdale one I haven't been to. read more

Came here to check it out; it's way smaller than the one in Tempe. However, they still have all the main sections, like the marketplace, food court, and showrooms, just on a smaller scale. I usually spend an hour or more walking through the Tempe store, but this one only takes about a third of that time. It's nice when I just want to grab a few things and head out. It didn't feel crowded when we were there, and getting in and out was pretty easy. Parking was not as good as in Tempe though. It's convenient having this new IKEA close by, less driving, and a little savings on gas. read more

This new "mini" IKEA just opened close to my house. I needed some side tables and some new sheets. The mini warehouse is set up similar to the larger ones where you weave through the various sections -- some are room displays and some just have the stuff. The restaurant is right when you walk in and it smelled pretty good. They also have their food items throughout the store in case you skip the restaurant/food store. They didn't seem to have any good side tables so that was a bit disappointing. I did find some super cute sheets and a new king size duvet for my new bed. I really like the sheet patterns, also their curtains are super cute too. I think you really need to know what you are looking for when you come here, otherwise it is a bit overwhelming. The prices are what you would expect from IKEA. I did manage to spend about $200 on the sheets and duvet. I did grab some mini cinnamon rolls on the way out too -- they were ok until I put them in my air fryer and they were delicious! The checkout was pretty smooth -- everything is do it yourself -- like the self serve checkout isle at the grocery store. I don't even think I saw anyone that worked there -- so would be curious to know what happens if you do actually need assistance. read more

We still decided to give all the sections a shot, but when we couldn't find something, the worker saw us and left as soon as he knew a question was about to be asked. THRILLED I can get veggie meatballs and Swedish meatballs in under 15 minutes from my house! Things you should know: Bistro has many items, but not full. Notably, no soda fountain, no pizza, no frozen yogurt or strawberry sorbet (that was the most sad). But... it's close! And surprisingly large inside! Hopeful they understand the error of their ways and consider that froyo because some of us neeeeed it. Still have cinnamon rolls so phew. read more

This store is about 1/4 the size of its huge counterpart in Tempe, but you still get the full IKEA experience- a great variety of home furnishings and decor, and of course a cafe area serving the popular IKEA deli staples. I came on opening day and found the store to be very well organized, with very friendly and helpful staff. Very reasonable prices, just like any IKEA, parking was not a problem because the store is located in a large commercial plaza with a big parking lot, and the location is great- at Cactus and Tatum in North Phoenix. An excellent place to go for home goods, especially for people in the Northern part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. read more

For as long as I can remember, it was a special outing to head to IKEA in Tempe from the north side of the city. It has been quite some time since I've been out to IKEA in Tempe. And then recently, two new smaller locations have opened up in North Phoenix and Scottsdale. There is a very small location on Frank Lloyd Wright and Scottsdale Road, and just a week or so ago, the larger (but not as large as Tempe) location opened up at Tatum and Cactus. I had fun exploring it twice over the last week. The store took over the old Hobby Lobby and Mervyn's locations. Upon walking in the front doors and past some displays, you can find the Swedish Deli to the right and customer service right there along with check-outs near you. You then walk through the showroom and follow the arrows. First, you see sections on the living room, living room storage, workspaces, dining, kitchen and bathroom furniture, wardrobes and storage, bedroom, and children's IKEA. Then, you then walk through the "Market Hall" where you see sections on cookware and tableware, textiles and rugs, bed and bath textiles, bathroom accessories, home organization, lighting and home electronics, and home decoration. Then, you walk past the self-serve furniture area, the as-is area, check-outs, customer service, and you're back to the Swedish Deli again. From any such area, you can easily follow signs back to the entrance or exit. This particular store is open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 8 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM. The cafe is open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 7 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM. They are closed on Christmas and Thanksgiving and have special store hours on July 4th, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve. Other than offers, sales, and deals, they do host events and activities, which can be found on their website (https://www.ikea.com/us/en/stores/phoenix). You can also sign up for IKEA Family where you get birthday freebies ($10 off coupon plus free cake or Swedish meatballs). It's free to join. I know this is a smaller location, they do not always have everything in stock, and the prices are sometimes more than other stores; however, it is still a fun place to walk around and quality items you can buy. This location is not good. If you want to go to IKEA, make the drive to Tempe. I live close to this location and thought I would be here all the time but so far I have not had a good experience shopping here. The food court is in a sad state. Even in the bigger ikea locations, the food is always better when there's a little bit of a line because everything is more fresh. This one is completely dead all the time. The food is visibly dry and cracked. It's like a hospital cafeteria. Just weird and sad looking. The employees are always in a bad mood and it makes the vibe very awkward and unfriendly which is the complete opposite of the Tempe location. I don't know why people are so pissed off to be working here but they will either ignore people or just be straight up rude. Crazy to make people feel like they are not welcome or wanted in a store like this. The last 2 times I came here there were issues. I wanted to buy a shelf that was specifically featured in one of the displays. Only I guess they don't sell it here. A smaller wall shelf that I know is extremely popular they don't sell here with the other shelves but they have the space for an entire room filled up with mattresses. The setup is kind of terrible. I'm just not sure a storefront like this works very well. It's a little haphazard. Finally I found what I wanted online and did a pick up order. I even took the time to sign in and request to pick it up inside. But then when I go in the girl doesn't even look at me, just tells me they already put in in the back even though I requested it inside so she tells me I need to leave, get back in my car, and drive around to the back of the building to pick it up. So it's the customer's responsibility to deal with the inconvenience because no one wants to walk 50 feet into the back room. I used to really enjoy shopping at IKEA so it's disappointing just how bad this place is. The company has changed a lot. They are so focused on expanding new locations and putting out all these trendy gimmick items. They used to be dependable for the basics but not anymore. The quality is down on everything. read more

I made it for the grand opening, so the store was fairly packed. This is supposed to be a small store, but it was still big enough to have multiple displays of almost everything you could want for your home in neatly organized sections. Like all Ikeas, inside is a maze with confusing signage and little hope of finding your way out easily. I'm guessing this is a marketing ploy where they keep you wandering and putting things in your cart. The displays and combinations are great. I loved the children's area with the monkeys peering down on everyone, probably also seeking a way out. After circling the same display endlessly, I finally sought help from an employee (new) who also needed assistance to get me back to the food area. Several self-service kiosks let you pay and go quickly, and there were lots of employees eager to help. I eventually got my lingonberries and my meatballs and escaped. read more

Went to the new IKEA around 2pm on a Wednesday for lunch and it was pretty dead, which was nice--but that's about where the convenience ended. This location doesn't offer Kids Meal Wednesdays, which was disappointing. The biggest issue though is the layout. There's only one bathroom and it's buried in the middle of the maze, making it way harder than it should be to wash your hands before and after eating. We literally walked in circles four times trying to find our way back. Even some employees gave us the wrong directions--only one finally pointed us the right way. If this is meant to be a quicker, more streamlined IKEA, they really missed the mark on navigation. At minimum, they should have a clearly marked path to the restroom or even something simple like a line on the floor leading to the café. The store does have a cute selection of grab-and-go items, but I didn't see any of the discounted items that were mentioned online. The café also has fewer options compared to other IKEA locations. Overall: good for browsing cute things, but frustrating to get around. If it's supposed to be a "quick" store, it shouldn't be this hard to navigate. read more

If you're overwhelmed by the sheer size of the main IKEA in Tempe. This is a nice alternative. As soon as you walk in you got the food court. Service is done on a kiosk. I could see that be a issue when they get really busy. But it flowed pretty smoothly. The food was just as good. And the price was great. So you definitely get your money's worth. Walking through the store it is what you expect from IKEA or else you wouldn't go there. Nice selection of items. The display rooms were very well put together. So well I forgot to include any pix in this review. Cause I was to busy admiring how nice everything looked. Checkout only had a few registers. Again, I could see that being an issue when the place is really packed. Overall I enjoyed this smaller IKEA. It didn't feel bare. Went opening day and was a delight to visit and shop at this mini Ikea store. They have stocked what are likely their bestselling items. That said, I did not find one item on the list I brought but that is to be expected. They do not stick everything here but I still managed to drop about $100 on other finds. Looking forward to returning to this incredibly convenient location soon and getting some plant balls and veggie dogs at the snack bar. Yummmm Update. I went back the following day and I have a couple of thoughts. I realized that I missed a whole portion of the store. The signage or arrows on the floor were a little confusing moving through the space required exploring and backtracking a bit. Perhaps they could add more arrows to direct you to the next areas? Additionally, I was looking for those paper tape measures that are available at the main store, but there were none to be found. Please add them. And finally arriving at the checkout, which is only self check feels so inconsequential like one minute. You're shopping in the next minute oh here is the checkout. It's not a criticism really it just seems like moving through the store requires a little more finessing on the user experience between navigating and arriving at the checkout point just feels like a total surprise. Also, as I was looking at things today, I was looking around. I really couldn't find anyone to ask a question of in the areas where I had questions but that being said, I know it's a brand new location so there's a lot of things to iron out which I'm sure they will because generally the IKEA experience is excellent. Oh and at the snack bar it looks like this may be implemented at the future but currently you have to wait for someone to call your number after you have ordered, but there are many of us who are hearing impaired, and it appears there may be a screen that will show the order status, perhaps in the future, which will be very helpful to have a visual queue, as opposed to straining to hear your number called read more

Ok, this concept is just dumb. First, the store doesn't have all the items as a regular IKEA. Ok, it's a smaller footprint, that totally makes sense. So I put in an order for the unit I want. However, since it's not in store, I have to pay a $2 dollar fee for delivery. Yeah, it's only $2 so whatever, but it's for IKEA'a own product. Being shipped to IKEA's own store. For me to come in and pick up myself? That's stupid. But THEN it's also going to take a week to get shipped in. Orrrrr I can just drive to the Tempe location tomorrow and pick it up. This is just a stupid concept. And now I'm afraid to order food at the deli because I don't know if I'll still want Swedish Meatballs next Tuesday... Do better. Very cute and convenient location compared to the larger size Ikeas. They do stock up quite a lot of stuff in this small size location which is incredible. Not much newness in the kitchen or bath section. A pot cleaner that used to be 99Cents and is $4 now. Higher prices and no improvised gadgets which was a little disappointing. I'm sure this location will have tons of crowds as it's really nice to have in the neighborhood and is a very nice alternative. read more
