They do TAKE-OUT ONLY as it's just the Japanese couple that owns the shop that runs everything. First of all, my expectations for sushi in Fergus was quite low because I was uncertain about their ability to source fresh fish and their prices are higher than your typical sushi joint in the GTA/Toronto area.... BUT WAS I WRONG. Although the prices were higher, it made up for it with the HUMONGOUS portions and surprisingly fresh fish!! We've tried a variety of their specialty rolls and dinner sets. I'd personally skip out on their tuna sashimi, but everything else we've had so far was delicious! I recommend calling in advance to place your order (usually takes ~20min to prepare). Who would have known that a sushi spot in Fergus would be one of my all time favourites! Just maybe 15-20 minutes drive outside Guelph but to me it's worth the drive out. I typically order the sushi boat: Momo Combo and you can taste the freshness in the sushi pieces and sashimi. This boat typically serves 2 people. Service was a little bit slower the last time I went but usually they're really friendly. Absolutely love having Nicki as our server because she always remembers us and our orders. She works very efficiently and always served us with a smile. As for the interior of the restaurant, it could use a bit of work/renovations to make it feel more like a Japanese restaurant. It kinda gives off a western vibe. They took away some tables/chairs so there's limited seating now. Due to this reason, we sometimes call in to reserve a table during weekends and peak times, and to pre-order our sushi boat before arriving. So... I was in Fergus on business and I needed a quick bite a dinnertime. I was starving at this point as I had skipped out on lunch to do some extra work (what can I say, I am a sucker for that sort of thing) and was craving for some sushi. I spotted Ikiru Sushi and made a bee-line for the place. I ordered the Chirash suishi and I was impressed! Lots of tasty fish on top of a layer of sushi rice, it was better than I had thought it would be (in the sushi hinterlands of Fergus) and I finished in record time to get back to work (again, I am a sucker for that sort of thing). I kept thinking back to the Chirash, wondering, maybe it tasted good because I was so very hungry. So I came back again after a few weeks and ordered again (this time, I wasn't on the clock, so to speak, and although I wasn't starving, I was ready to eat) and this time I was as impressed as I was before. This is the only good looking sushi place in fergus, I needed some relatively healthy good so I thought whynot? Prices are a little on the expensive side, I can understand being in the location it is. The selection of rolls is amazing ! However they don't offer an all you can eat or sample friendly price, so I'm not willing to spend that much on something I'm worried I may not enjoy. The food quality was good. Staff, typical. A great little sushi spot in Fergus. Never thought we'd find good quality sushi all the way out here but the experience was great. We picked up our order and had no issues, order was accurate, staff was super friendly and the food was amazing. Portions are big and this is reflected in the fair pricing. Had dinner at Ikiru Sushi today. Didn't like the spicy salmon role - too much tempura and not enough salmon for my taste. Sent it back. The cook came out to tell me I was wrong and had to pay for it anyways. She told me it wasn't fair to her that I didn't like the roll and that since I didn't like it I probably shouldn't go back. This was a spontaneous stop for a simple lunch. The food was okay. I had the Maki Lunch which was tempura shrimp sushi (aka dynamite roll) and California roll (also came with miso soup, salad and a couple of veggie Gyozo). The meal was disappointing for four reasons. The rice was dry and of cheap quality, the tempura shrimp was old, probably deep fried yesterday or even the day before. The crab meat in the California roll was fishy tasting, either old or just cheap quality immitation crab. And worst of all, the soy sauce was too too sweet! On the plus side the price was reasonable, ($10.95) the green tea fabulous and the presentation fair. Service was friendly and prompt. read more

Got some take out sushi and was pleasantly surprised. I have tried had a lot of sushi restaurants around Ontario and Ikiru was delicious and did not disappoint. Considering you wouldn't expect a sushi restaurant in a small community like Fergus, this is one of the better sushi places I have been too. It is better than all the all-you-can-eat places that have popped up in Guelph.
