This was the sleeper hit of our trip!!! It was tough to convince my wife that our last dinner in PR would be Chinese/Japanese, but our hotel (El Caribe) had no good options and no one was willing to drive towards Old San Juan. Ikura was walking distance, just past 787 Coffee. The Yelp reviews were very positive and with good reason! The owners, possibly a husband wife, were very accommodating and worked together to ensure efficienct service. The menu had a mix of classic American-Chinese offerings (kung pao chicken, orange chicken), but also typical Japanese faire (sushi/sashimi, bento boxes, and udon noodles). My wife loved her hot and sour soup and kung pao chicken, while I love my bento box with fried rice, 4 piece California roll, salad, and pepper beef. We saw other guests who ate sushi and it looked really good. If you tire of lechon asado, mofongo, and all manner of fried appetizers, this is a great option! read more

The food was ok. I ate sushi here and it was a little chewy. Different than other sushi I've had. It was hand made on the spot. I could see him making it. I saw this place while passing by it on our way to our hotel, the Caribe Hilton. We were able to come here for lunch on our last day in town. It is a short walk from the Caribe Hilton and a nice change from the overpriced restaurants at the hotel and the expensive food at El Mercado de Paseo Caribe. The lunch menu ranges from 8.95 to $12 dollars for a meal. The bento box meals will leave you full and happy. I ordered the bento box with orange chicken and sushi (4 California rolls). Hubby ordered the bento box with beef teriyaki and sushi but upgraded the white rice to fried rice for $1 more. The miso soup that came out was noticeably saltier than the ones that we are used to. We still finished it nonetheless. The orange chicken was warm and crispy with a slightly sweet yet tangy orange sauce. Absolutely delicious and one of my favorite orange chickens I've had anywhere. The California rolls were pretty standard and I have no complaints about it. The entire bento box was great and I felt it was a good value considering the other (expensive) options nearby. I didn't get to taste the beef teriyaki but I'm sure it was good too. Service was good and food came out in a timely manner. I wasn't sure how good it was going to be considering we were on a predominately Spanish island but I was really pleasantly surprised. Pricing is reasonable for the quality, portion size, location and convenience. It's across the street from the Caribe Hilton and just in the shadow of Paseo Caribe and La Oficina. I had the terriyaki chicken bento box it was soooo delicious i'd highly recommend the chicken terriyaki. The miso soup was a little bit too salty but everything else was amazing. Wonderful family owned Asian restaurant. The salmon sashimi was delicious and fresh. The Chinese food was amazing too! I had the simple Egg Drop soup and it was piping hot and surprisingly delicious for such simple soup. There doesn't seem to be any MSG in their food either. We also had the Kung Pao chicken and it was fresh, spicy and had an amazing flavor. We had lived in Northern California for decades and this dish rivaled the best Kung Pao there. I reviewed the old location (when it was called Nikko) and finally had a chance to come see the new location. Dined here early (6 pm) on a Monday evening. It was pretty quiet, only one other family with kids came in. The restaurant was clean and inviting, and clearly a better location than where they used to be (but I admit I miss them being walking distance from my mom's place!) Between my mom and I, both small eaters, we ate: *Spicy Crab salad = excellent, but note that I REALLY have a thing for spicy mayo *Mango Tuna salad = totally yummy! The mango and avocado were perfectly ripe *Sushi Pizza with Crab = very good. I should've ordered it spicy, I completely forgot. The regular mayo just isn't as awesome. But I this place still has the best sushi pizza I've tried. The crust is never too thick. *Yellowtail roll = quite possibly the best negi hamachi I've ever had. Honestly, I didn't even know yellowtail could be so yummy! *Spicy scallop sashimi = meh. Usually I like them, but this time some of them were unnaturally cold in the middle, like they'd just been thawed out or something, which is not a good sign *Unagi sashimi = delicious Service was attentive & friendly. read more
