Honestly, the reason I think this store is great is that it allows greater access to organic foods and foods for alternative eating lifestyles in a community that may not have the same access as others. It's perfect for my sister and I, who are vegetarians, and it's within walking distance of the main strip of Anacostia. Change has to start somewhere and this store is just the beginning. So stop in and help this business grow so it can continue to change the community from within. Check out the other stores and spaces while you're there & don't forget your reusable bag.

The owner is kind and passionate about breaking through the food desert in Wards 7 and 8. The store itself is set up like a small organic market with fresh produce, local products, and other products. You could easily get most of your groceries here and the prices are reasonable for quality goods. They sell wine, snacks, fruit, literally almost everything! They also teach healthy cooking classes and host other events.

She knew all about the conditions that I was concerned with and was able to offer several alternatives using natural herbs and supplements, to attain my goals. I sampled the sea moss gel, which was actually good tasting because they add real fruit. I invested in some essential oils, body, butters, and hair preparations made from top grade natural ingredients. Each product smells delicious! I am looking forward to excellent results. As Yvette said, it never hurts to reduce the toxic load of body products that comes from putting synthetics on our skin instead of natural, edible products. We parted with hugs and smiles. After all, our skin eats (absorbs)! I will visit again and I highly recommend, especially due to the warm, welcoming ambience that this shop has created. By the way, they are so honest that if they don't carry a particular supplement, they will send you to someone who does carry it. Awesome!

Don't go here if you are a huge meat eater. Do stop in for a great selection of teas, produce (though $$$!), odds and ends, and beverages of all kinds. MOM's is known to be the only local shop I can count on to carry Southern Tier Pumking in the fall, for example. MOM's also has a great selection of kombucha and other fermented and interesting n/a drinks! You can park in the parking garage on level three; just be sure to validate your ticket inside. It didn't used to be required and now it is. The cashier's at MOM's are always friendly and efficient, though they tend to only have one lane open at a time. Best part of all for parents of littles -- aisles are BIG and it's a wonderful place to take a toddler or two if they just need to get out of the house and you want to have a nice little shopping experience. I have so many memories that involve MOM's as a destination so that I can buy fancy gnocchi with the true reason being that my kids have stuff to look at, the other customers are sparse, and there is room for littles to roam, or for the cart to spin around to keep them occupied. If you know you know.

We were seated on the ground floor. The decor was exotic in a pleasant way and it looked like there were many seating or standing options. It was quiet in the early afternoon. We ordered the fries with aioli, I had the lamb tartare and my friend the lamb bolognese, and we both had pound cake for dessert. We both deeply enjoyed the taste and presentation of the dishes we ordered. The fries were hot and crispy and the aioli delicious -- I only wish there were more given the generous portion of fries. My tartare had the taste and texture of pate, despite the lamb chop exterior. Very clever. The aroma was just right. The cake was warm and moist with a crispy crust. My friend remarked that dishes of similar quality, taste, and presentation would cost triple in Manhattan. Regrettably, we were charged $12 for the $10 dessert. The waiter attributed it to a "computer error," but I've had to deal with overcharging by several of my favorite DC restaurants. Whether intentional or not, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Other cons: The menu is admittedly sketchy. My friend and I were unwilling to gamble on expensive and elaborate dishes. It sounds like the reviewers here did. Also, the restaurant is located in the heart of Capitol Hill, far from the metro. It's a long walk or you'll be looking for parking. Butterworth's is now my favorite restaurant in DC. I've been wanting to bring my family here for the longest time, but I've hesitated because I don't want to deal with the contempt of the host, the embarrassment of disputing false charges, and the pain of finding parking. I've been wanting to return solo for the longest time, but I've hesitated because the place is in the middle of nowhere, and I don't want to walk 25 minutes or pay $15 for a cab ride just to pay another $50 for a meal here, as wonderful as the experience might be. All that said, in terms of taste, presentation, ambiance, and price, Butterworth's left a strong and positive impression on me.
