Small studio with classes at several times for young ones. We tried the 2 week trial which was set for 3:30 pm (interfered with nap) which was a slight problem. My son seemed to enjoy it but did not partake like the others since he was tired. There was no wiggle room on time since we were in the trial phase. Price is $200 a month with a 6 month commitment with initiation fee, $230 if you want to go month to month. Since it seemed like our kiddo wasn't quite into it yet and maybe too young, we didn't sign up. I will say though, the establishment is clean. The instructors are attentive and it really requires discipline for the kids. We would consider trying again at a later time but the price tag just seems too high. read more

I love what IL-DO has done for my grandson. It has been a very positive experience for him. His confidence, focus, and his coordination have all improved. He started as a 4-yo and will be turning 6 in a couple months. What he is learning through IL-DO Taekwondo are not just benefiting him at home, school or in his other sports, but in his overall development. They truly care about their students, young and old. Both my kids are enrolled in their program since Cubs classes. My eldest son has ADHD and as a parent, I was worried about how he would do. The masters and instructors here are very patient and teach skills which are useful for him to achieve his goals with confidence. Since my review 12 years ago, he is currently in NY pursuing a mechanical engineering degree. I credit a big part of this to his Taekwon-Do training at IL-DO. My twins, boy & girl, and I have been training at Il-Do Taekwondo for 12 years and are still there. It's the best family activity we have ever done long term. It's an amazing stess reliever and confidence builder for me, and a discipline that teaches respect and resiliency for the kids. The workouts are varied (traditional Taekwondo, boxing, weapons, street self defense, etc.) and tailored to your training level - so you are never bored or overly physically (or mentally) stressed but you are definitely physically and mentally engaged and challenged. The workouts are what you make of them. Put in the effort. Enjoy a good workout and make progress in your martial arts growth. Slack off and expect an old fashioned reprimand by Grandmaster Kang (one of the only remaining OG Grandmasters still actively teaching), because he deeply cares about the art and discipline, and he, like all of the instructors there, deeply care about each of the students. Worried that you're too old or too out of shape to start? Stop worrying and go. I started at the age of 42 and had just received clearance from an abdominal surgery (diastasis and hernia repair). I could hardly punch or kick, let alone move or stretch. Grandmaster said to me then, "Your growth is measured against yourself only. Don't compare yourself to anyone else. Try each day to be a better version of you than the you of yesterday. And you will grow." There are other adults in the classes. You will quickly see how Il-Do truly becomes your second family and your way of life. And, if you do this with your child(ten), your family will grow up in this way of life together - exemplifying the tenets of Taekwondo = courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit. I am 27 years old and I am taking adult teakwando classes. I started teakwando on April, so glad I found this awesome place. In 6 months I learned a lot. They are not only teaching you how to punch in a target but mentality as well. I really like how strict they are and teaching us discipline and respect to others. I took my daughter for a two week trial and from the very first lesson, the quality of their curriculum was evident. The instructors are very engaging with their students and pay attention to every student in his or her care. The lessons themselves were more intense than I would have expected from a kids class. That's not to say it's too physically demanding, rather it's non stop training that the kids really get into, which is what I had hoped for. And because the kids get into it, they seem to progress fast, at least in my opinion. All in all, I'm very happy my neighbor introduced me to Ildo-Taekwondo. We have tried two different martial art classes before we found the right one for my son. We joined IL-Do in July of 2020 and so thankful they have stayed open throughout the covid pandemic. My son is safe and healthy all this time because of their safety covid protocols. My son who has ADHD but is really focused during class. The instructors are strict but yet making it fun for the kiddos. They also encourage his strengths and makes him feel awesome at end of class. They are also very flexible at any request I have. My son always look forward to going to class here and it's a big difference from not wanting to go to class at other martial art establishments. read more

I joined IL-DO Taekwondo in the middle of the August 2021. At the beginning I took 2 week introduction course for adults for a very reasonable price which included uniform as well. I liked it a lot and later signed up for a longer term. Glad that I did because I'm enjoying every lesson. Everyone is welcoming and friendly. Like the way how they teach us Taekwondo, not only physically (punching and kicking) but also mentally (discipline, respect to others, knowledge, leadership...). Just a fantastic experience for kids! We started at the location near UCI with Master Lois, who is very skilled and just lovely with the kids. When it closed, sadly, we moved to this Culver location with Master Daniel. There are multiple instructors during the classes, and while the class sizes are large, the children are grouped based on their belt and age. All instructors are absolute professionals and wear their masks properly for the entire duration - so rare these days. Children have to mask, too, which is great for peace of mind. Anyone who enters the studio needs to mask, which is appreciated while we are still in the pandemic. The studio is clean and there is plenty of parking out front or in back. My 5-year-old son has been attending Taekwondo classes at Il-Do for a few months now, and it is one of the best decisions we've ever made for him! I wanted to get him involved in some activities but was hesitant during COVID to start something, especially an indoor one, but when I reached out to Il-Do to inquire about classes, one of the first things they mentioned was mandatory masks, and that made me feel a little better. After a two-week trial during which my son attended about 4 classes and seemed to enjoy himself, we decided to sign him up for classes regularly. After attending for a few months, we've noticed that he's become a little more disciplined (as far as 5-year-olds go) and seems to be really passionate about going to class and getting to the next belt. Master Daniel is awesome - my son loves him and he is great about being strict and expecting good effort, but is also kind and understanding towards younger kids when necessary. After being part of two other taekwondo studios, my son moved to IL-DO and I actually joined too. My 8 year old son joined as a white belt at Il-Do at age 3, and now is a Black Belt. I also have an older son who earned his Black Belt at Il-Do. This is not a type of studio where you just pay tuition and automatically level up - students have to put in effort and uphold the technique and values of Tae Kwon Do in order to advance. The instructors are fantastic: they know how to work with kids, they know how pull the best out of students, and they emphasize perseverance, respect, and goal setting. I just want to echo Jean's post that the earlier criticism of the school is unfair. My son actually attends school here - in fact, we were there last Thursday. The staff here have been extremely diligent in keeping the studio clean and disinfected after every session. I watch them mop all the studio mats and wipe everything down before each class. Students are to enter at the front of the studio and exit at the back. Every child must get their temperature taken coming in and use hand sanitizer going out. Parents usually do not get to sit in to watch the class. Class sizes are small, kids are spaced out and the staff have been very upfront with the changing situation from day 1. I do not feel that there was anything more they could've done to prevent this situation. Unfortunate as it is, don't forget that we are in a COVID spike EVERYWHERE in the US. Have a little empathy that some people are trying their best in the current situation. You can just as easily say why didn't the parents keep the child at home instead of going to class. You wouldn't have gotten exposed in the first place. It's a decision we all make every day to balance safety and quality of life for our kids.
