I had heard from other parents that many martial arts dojos focus more on charging families for belt tests than on teaching the art itself. That has not been our experience at Regulus. I grew up in Korea, where taekwondo emphasized respect, discipline, grit, and hard work, so I was initially cautious. My 11-year-old son is on the autism spectrum (high functioning). His gross motor skills were somewhat behind his peers, and team sports were a struggle for him. A friend recommended Regulus, so we tried a trial week. That week happened to be just before belt testing, and I overheard Master Rhee explaining that students must earn an A or B on a "parent report card" evaluating behaviors like keeping their room clean, doing chores with a good attitude, being respectful, and following rules at home in order to qualify for testing. The students took this seriously and responded with an enthusiastic, "Yes, sir!" This impressed me and he enjoyed the trail week, so we signed up. After just a few weeks of classes, I noticed clear improvements in my son's strength, posture, and confidence. He now bows and greets the masters loudly and respectfully every time he enters class. At home, he's more motivated to keep his room clean and follow routines. This is his third year, and he still loves taekwondo and now dreams of earning his black belt. I am incredibly grateful to the masters at Regulus for making martial arts fun while teaching kids real life skills and character. Highly recommend--especially for parents looking for more than just physical training.

This isn't just a Taekwondo class -- it's family. We've been part of Regulus taekwondo for almost 4 years and the difference is clear: this is real community and care, not just martial arts training. From the moment you walk in, you're treated with respect, encouragement. The instructors go beyond perfecting kicks and forms -- they teach confidence, discipline, and respect in a way that feels supportive. This place celebrates every student's progress, big or small, and makes every family feel truly welcomed. My son always look forward to class, and the pride they have in their achievements says everything. If you're looking for quality training and a community that feels like extended family, this is the place. Highly recommend

My 6-year-old son has been participating in Regulus' Taekwondo for a year and a half. In the beginning, we simply wanted him to try it out and get some exercise, but Regulus has given us so much more than that. We have happily continued on this journey and plan to keep going. My son loves his coaches and his friends. The environment is always caring, encouraging, and supportive. Through Taekwondo, he has learned confidence, respect for others, and self discipline. He always looks forward to go to the class. As the levels become more challenging, he sometimes struggles, but Master Yoon, Master Rhee and Master Kim consistently inspire and encourage him to be brave. They help him challenge himself and experience the joy and confidence that come from overcoming fear. I truly appreciate the dedication and effort of the coaches. They care about every child in the class and genuinely guide them in the true spirit of Taekwondo. We are truly grateful to have found Regulus Taekwondo and would gladly recommend it to any parent who wants their child to grow stronger, more confident, and more resilient.

My child has been studying Taekwondo here for two years. From white belt to now brown belt, each promotion has been a new breakthrough. The instructors here are all excellent and very professional. My child also likes every single one of them. The children not only learn new skills but also make many friends, and my child looks forward to class every time.

My 6-year-old has been attending this Irvine Taekwondo for over a year, and we've seen great progress in listening skills, manners, and patience. The instructors are caring, fun, and very experienced, and they know how to work with different children. We're very thankful to have found this Irvine Taekwondo and highly recommend it.

Our family has been part of this taekwondo academy for over two years now, and both of my sons have been training here during that time. We have seen so many positive changes in them, especially in their confidence, focus, and discipline. The master instructors are professional, structured, and very supportive. They take the time to teach proper taekwondo while also emphasizing respect, self control, and personal growth. The classes are engaging and motivating, and the masters know how to keep the kids smiling while still maintaining high standards. Even though there are closer schools near us, we chose to stay here because of the quality of instruction and the positive environment. The progress we have seen in our sons over the past two plus years has made the commitment completely worth it. We are truly grateful for the impact this academy has had on our children and would highly recommend it to any family looking for a well run, supportive taekwondo program.

Since it seemed like our kiddo wasn't quite into it yet and maybe too young, we didn't sign up. I will say though, the establishment is clean. He is learning more than Taekwondo, he is learning to be a good human. To date, we have recommended IL-DO to 5 of his friends at school and from his baseball team. All have joined and seem to be enjoying and growing with the program. I recommend you give your son or daughter a chance to experience this program and take the introductory class and see it for yourself.

Over the past few years, we have seen tremendous growth in her confidence, discipline, and perseverance. In the beginning, she wasn't very interested, and there was a point when she even wanted to quit because the forms were becoming more challenging. I spoke with Master Choi about it, and he was incredibly supportive. The instructors slowed down the form practice to help her better follow along. With patience, encouragement, and consistent practice, she eventually mastered it -- and that moment was incredibly meaningful for her. Now, my daughter proactively practices her forms on her own, and Taekwondo has become part of her daily life. Through Taekwondo, she has learned not only physical skills, but also important life values: never giving up, respect, discipline, and self-control. Master Choi, Master Tracy, and all the black belt instructors consistently reinforce these lessons. They are firm when needed, but always kind and encouraging. You can genuinely see that they care about each child's growth. What I appreciate most is seeing the kids truly enjoy the classes while learning in a positive environment. We are very grateful to be part of ILDO TKD and highly recommend Elite Fitness Taekwondo to other families.

The capoeira classes are located in a different studio on Mondays while we utilize this ATA Martial Art's studio on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It's been such a great learning experience physically and mentally. Our instructor, Corpo Fechado (Zach) simultaneously walks us through and pushes our limits every class. We still have our music portion at the beginning of class as it is an essential factor in capoeira. Furthermore, it is inspiring to see other students improve through time we train together. The number of students training have risen tremendously! I remember there was about 10-14 students per class but now it goes up to 20 students per class on a certain days. You know it's a good 2-hour workout when your t-shirt is drenched and when you think your crying, it's actually the dripping sweat from your forehead to your eyes. FACILITIES: Clean and spacious. The huge space is beneficial for our capoeira warm-ups, drills, and roda, especially more new students training. I love the padded floors! The bathroom is consistently clean, too. Come join the fun!

Unfortunately, the quality and culture of the studio have declined significantly since Mr. Kim assumed responsibility from his father. Mr. Kim lacks experience in managing a studio and consistently demonstrates a transactional, money driven approach. His communication with customers is unprofessional. My son is a second degree black belt and was working toward his third degree black belt, a two year commitment. At 18 months into the program, he suffered a broken toe during routine sparring in class. When I called the studio to inform them of the injury and our need to discontinue training, I expected empathy or at least acknowledgment of the situation. Instead, Mr. Kim's immediate response was that we would still be charged for the upcoming month. There was no concern for my son's injury, no expression of support, and not even a suggestion that he return once healed, despite he had only six months left to complete his third degree. After a decade of loyalty and commitment to the studio, it was deeply disappointing to encounter such an insensitive and dismissive response. It became unmistakably clear that the priority was not the student's long term dedication or progress, but simply securing the next month's payment. We never imagined our relationship with the studio would end this way after ten years of trust, consistency, and support only to find ourselves arguing over a single month's charge. Yet Mr. Kim left us no choice. His rigid, money first approach made it painfully evident that the relationship meant far less to him than it ever did to us.

Sorry to say that I didn't find what I needed here. Here were a few things I noticed upon observation(Barranca Pkway location): Nobody said "Yes sir/No sir!". Not even the black belts unfortunately. As a former main instructor, a student should be able to respond like this to their instructor right away. Too much talking between students during class. Giving up before trying. Noticed a black belt girl wanting to skip a move because she wasn't confident enough after the instructor told her to go do it a few times. Not black belt attitude.. never give up, just TRY. Kihaps were not loud enough when demonstrating, even among black belts. Being a little louder is totally okay! Back to demonstrations in the black belt class, I did not see power in poomsae techniques either. Finally, it was random and strange to me to get asked to volunteer to help classes the first day I met the Master. As a customer, I only stated I wanted to train... not teach anyone due to my extreme burnout from it. I refused the Masters offer because I don't know them and their curriculum. Why would I want to volunteer?? Master Lee told me he had several instructors already to help, but shouldn't that be enough to cover each day of classes? Why ask me to volunteer? I saw no reason to be needed and had no reason to stay and watch longer, so I left.
