I had heard from other parents that many martial arts dojos focus more on charging families for belt tests than on teaching the art itself. That has not been our experience at Regulus. I grew up in Korea, where taekwondo emphasized respect, discipline, grit, and hard work, so I was initially cautious. My 11-year-old son is on the autism spectrum (high functioning). His gross motor skills were somewhat behind his peers, and team sports were a struggle for him. A friend recommended Regulus, so we tried a trial week. That week happened to be just before belt testing, and I overheard Master Rhee explaining that students must earn an A or B on a "parent report card" evaluating behaviors like keeping their room clean, doing chores with a good attitude, being respectful, and following rules at home in order to qualify for testing.
