This place is cash only! Their gelato is creamy but not all the flavors came through or were well balanced and one of the gelato had a grainy texture. Pistacchio - the pistachio didn't have a strong pistachio flavor. Creama di filo - mascarpone with a hint of white wine. I felt like the white wine overpowered the mascarpone. Cachi (persimmon) - very grainy. The flavor resembled persimmon but texture was off. Caffe (coffee) - was my favorite! It had a strong coffee flavor. Menta e cioccolato (mint chip) - I haven't seen mint chip gelato anywhere else. This was very good. The only place that served gelato in waffle cones! Filo is one of my two favorite gelato places in Florence! While I recommend just taking Bus 12/13 to Piazzale Michelangelo, if you have to climb because you are already at Oltroarno or you are just hardcore, why not reward yourself with one of the most delicious gelato out there? This is like a hidden gem since it's relatively far from the tourist area, but if you are around, you are in for a treat! The gelato is absolutely on-point with its creaminess and got the right sweetness, and each generously-sized scoop is €1. Il perfetto gelato! Although I don't recommend going all the way just for this gelato as Edoardo (my other Florentine favorite) is more convenient, you definitely can't miss this on your trek to Piazzale Michelangelo. Wowzers. A little far out of the way, but that's what makes it such a treasure. Probably the best gelato experience I've had in Rome or Florence. 2€ for 2 scoops? You can't go wrong with that. Plus, their flavors are homemade, some even with fresh seasonal fruit. Their house cream, mascarpone with white wine, is aaaammmaaazzzing, and their own secret recipe. The sweet lady who was working there was incredibly friendly. Definitely a great spot to hit up if you're looking for some cheap, quality Italian gelato. The best Gelato I've had anywhere in Italy so far. After a walk to Piazzale Di Michelangelo or the rose gardens you need to make a stop here. The pistachio and the fondanti dark chocolate are simply to die for. A good tip that most Italians know ... If the gelato is piled in mountains high or tall waves it contains preservatives. Most of Florence's sights are north of the Arno River. Il Gelato do Filo is south of the Arno River, which means that it will likely be found only by those tourists on their way to or from the Piazzale Michelangelo or, in my case, the Bardini Gardens. 4 stars? Are you high? This place redefines the word gelato. There is nothing like it here in the states unless you make yourself. The focus here is on pure fruit, in season, with very little added sugar. Once they sell out, it's gone-- they don't have a "fresh" tub in back waiting. I suggest what's in season, just ask, but for me it was persimmon. I went back a second time about an hour later, and the next day. It was here that I confirmed my theory, if a place sells gelato in tubs that's pilled very high, like in the tourist area, move along because it is mass produced, without love. If instead, you find a place where there is a limited amount of gelato in each tub, take a closer look because you may have found your next gem. This place belongs in the latter camp. read more

BEST GELATO in Florence! The creaminess and smoothness is by far the best of every gelateria I visited in Florence (and Rome too). Definitely worth the trip across the river.
