Came for lunch with two friends on a cold afternoon. We had a reservation and arrived around noon. The place was pretty much empty First problem was we were offered a table right by the front door. We told them it would be cold there, so they moved us to the table one away from the door. We took that table. I was freezing the entire meal, as was one of my lunch-mates. It was really uncomfortable. We ordered our entrees. I ordered the Il Piatto salad and asked for the salmon option on top. When my salad arrived, it did not have salmon on top. I assumed that the server likely didn't hear me, because the entree comes with smoked salmon so he might have thought I was referring to that as "with salmon". The problem here is that after we were served our entrees, we didn't see the server at all until well after we were done eating. No check in - no nothing. So I had no opportunity to request the salmon. The entrees themselves were "ok". My salad was good, but there was so much smoked salmon (it seemed like it must have been a half pound layer filling the bottom of the plate). Way too much smoked salmon. I ate less than half of it and the rest went to waste. My lunch mates said their entrees - the Gnocchi and the Spinach Ravioli - were "fine" but not something they would order again. When we were done with our meal, we sat and waited . . . and waited . . . and waited for the server to come over. Finally, after 20 minutes of sitting at the table with empty dirty plates, the server came and offered the check. We had made the reservation indicating we were celebrating a birthday and no mention was made of it at all. We told them we wanted to order a dessert. He brought it and we told him it was a birthday celebration. He smiled, removed the dessert, said he'd be right back, and returned a couple of minutes later with the same dessert with a lit candle and the plate saying "happy birthday". Good attempt at recovery. Overall, the food was fine, but not great. The service was disappointing and, I hope, a one-off. Sitting us at the front door on a cold day when the place was empty was just rude. Don't expect to come back.
My husband and I stopped in while we were riding scooters through town. Glad we did! [[HIGHLIGHT]]We got an authentic Italian vibe when we walked in. It was clean and fancy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu looked amazing, but we were here for a small bite. So we stayed towards the appetizers. We ordered and ate at the bar. Meatballs and Caesar salad. Both are highly recommended by us!! The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable about not only menu items, but the city as well. He gave us great tourist suggestions.
Food- Short rib ravioli 4/5. I finished it so quick- it was so so yummy! I do feel like the pesto was a bit overpowering, however, I still thoroughly enjoyed this dish. Calamari 4.5/5. DRINK- Princess peach 5/5. Loved this drink Service- 5/5. Our waiter was so attentive and made sure we were well taken care of [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance- 5/5. Dim lighting and soft music. Great place for a good catch up or a nice date![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall I would 100% come back! I'd love to try the other food and drink options! Totally recommend!

I ordered Arancini, Eggplant dish served with linguine pasta in red sauce and strawberry sorbet. The portion size, especially of the appetiser and the dessert can be slightly better but considering it's meant to be a meal for one, won't complain. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambience though is not outstanding but not bad at all to come for a business meeting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If in the area again, would like to come back.
First, our waiter Erick was amazing - very attentive and fun. Always kept our glasses full. I don't drink so Erick was nice enough to serve me other drinks without changing our table's menu. There is an underground parking garage right around the corner on the same block as well. Everything we ate was great! No complaints at all from the whole table.
I ordered a Caesar with no croutons and it was definitely interesting. There were radishes, cucumber slices, onions, and Bibb lettuce added to it, possibly to make up for not having croutons. I would say the homemade dressing didn't have that much Caesar flavor. What blew me away was the seafood pasta with gluten free tagliatelle. The noodles were cooked perfectly, held their shape, and had a large amount of sauce on them. There was an overwhelmingly large amount of seafood provided and it was all cooked perfectly. Nothing was chewy or rubbery. Lastly, I thought it was weird that there was an auto gratuity added. Overall, the pasta carried this review for sure and I will be thinking about it for days to come.
Solid spot for a tasty, extremely filling lunch! I visited Il Piatto for their express lunch with a few coworkers, and it was the perfect way to celebrate the end of our project. The express lunch is a great deal -- $40 for an appetizer, entree, and dessert -- and the portions are remarkably generous. There's a pretty wide variety of options for each course, but I settled on the poached pear to start, followed by the eggplant parmesan, and ending with the mango sorbet. The poached pear was outstanding! The pear was super flavorful and sweet, but not overly so. It went wonderfully with the slightly bitter raddichio, crunchy walnuts, and creamy goat cheese in the accompanying salad. It was a refreshing, but still satisfying, way to start off the meal. I similarly loved the eggplant parmesan; the eggplant was tender and savory, and it was topped with a very generous portion of melted cheese. It came with a side of linguine, which was solidly al dente and all-around delicious. It was a huge portion, so I was quite sleepy and quite full for the rest of the day. The sorbet was a great, light way to end the meal after the richness of the eggplant parmesan; I loved the mango flavor, and the sorbet was perfectly creamy, refreshing, tart, and not overly sweet. The overall ambiance was delightful, and the staff was incredibly friendly. The "express" lunch was not remarkably "express," so it really only works if you have at least two hours to set aside for lunch, but the staff was super attentive and kind.

The downside is the pricing. There's some really tiny text at the bottom of the menu about a 20% service fee, which my friend and I had assumed was auto-gratuity--it is not. So if you come here, keep in mind that the price reflected is only 83% of what the actual total will be. It was honestly so souring to see the bill hiked up 40+% at the end because of fees and tips, so I'm not sure I would come here again.

The bites were good. I had the pasta bolognese for my main dish, it was delicious and I took enough home for a second dinner. I came here for Restaurant Week lunch ($25 for three courses) and everything was excellent! They have a $37 express lunch that is available year-round. It's a short walk from the Farragut North/West metro stations. For my appetizer course, I ordered the arancini (comes with two pieces). The arancini was perfectly light, crispy, and cheesy - the arancini were so delicious, I had to remind myself to be ladylike! There was also bread service. Each table is set with olive oil for the bread, but the sauce with the arancini was also great for dipping the bread in. For my entree course, I ordered the gnocchi served in a porcini sauce. The gnocchi was light and pillowy, and I love mushroom everything! I'm always curious to see how restaurants "skimp" on portions for Restaurant Week, and I don't feel like Il Piatto does that here. For dessert, I had a choice between the ice cream (chocolate or vanilla) or sorbet (limoncello or mango). Now normally, I'm a chocolate ice cream kind of gal, but I couldn't resist the limoncello sorbet - and it was absolutely the right choice! It was refreshing, lemony, and cleansing to the palate. It was the perfect finish to a lovely meal. Service was exceptional. It was speedy, thorough, and attentive - across the board. Shout-out to Alberto for providing excellent service. I have not visited this restaurant in a year or more. It's even better than before. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had a late lunch so the restaurant wasn't extremely packed; however it was a nice ambiance and upscale vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The waitstaff were very accommodating and attentive. The menu was different from when the restaurant first opened. The food- delicious! J ordered the Pasta Mista- Chef's Choice Pasta, which was amazing. Each dish had its own distinct taste. It consisted of Pappardelle Bolognese, Rigtoni alla Panna and Spinach Fettuccine, and each was served in a nice sized bowl. Weird tipping policy... 20% added forcefully to "increase the wages", but then told those fees are not tips, and still listed a tip line? My lovelies, if your costs increased, reflect that in the effing prices listed on the menu. Be honest and stop camouflaging the cost of what you sell. read more

This restaurant already adds a 20 percent service charge which is shameful. I would be ok with a service charge but not 20 percent. Then this server tried crossing out how "tips are not expected " to take advantage of the customer to over tip. Beware. I will not be going to this restaurant ever. read more

Sat at the bar for a glass of wine and a plate of pasta. The service was attentive without being "in your face" and I never felt lacking for attention when I needed it! They really took care of me. I won't deny that the gnocchi pasta with mushrooms could have used a little more flavor as it was a little one note but the plating and texture were great! The service at the bar was attentive and friendly. I tried the short rib ravioli with pesto. Overall it was okay. I love short rib so that was my main reason for getting this. However, the short rib got lost to me. I think the cream and pesto overpower the short rib so it didn't matter what filling was in the ravioli. My husband and I came here for dinner because it was nearby the hotel. The ambiance is pretty and was a fairly busy restaurant. We both liked the food but it was overall just a good, average Italian meal. We started with the calamari and Caesar salad. The service was pleasant and attentive despite it being a bit busy. The Calamari was chewy and not fried enough although we loved the two dipping sauces. The Caesar salad had radishes, red onions and cucumbers which was a bit odd. We split the chicken parm which was very yummy and a good portion to share. We ended with the cheesecake, it was a very small slice for the price. Overall just an average B Italian restaurant nearby the White House. read more
This was my first time experiencing Il Piatto and I will absolutely be back. The service was amazing; our server was very attentive and the food a was absolutely delicious! I had the short rib ravioli and the flavor was sooo good! It was such a creamy and savory pesto sauce and the pasta is made so fresh you can tell the difference. Went for bottomless brunch on a Sunday morning during the peak bloom of the cherry blossoms. We had a reservation but it was not very full. It's in a good location near the national mall and the restaurant is very cute, it was a little slow but at least you do not feel rushed. The mimosa options are passion fruit, raspberry, peach and orange. The arancini were amazing and so was the rigatoni alla panna. The desserts were good but not the stars of the show. Very reasonably priced for three courses and bottomless mimosas in DC, came out to a little over $50 each with tax and tip. read more

I thought this was an upscale restaurant so made a reservation expecting a nice brunch. The restaurant was loud and filled with group tables indulging in bottomless brunch, it was pretty chaotic. The server took our drink order and then dropped off some bread to an empty table, no bread plates or silverware. When I was able to grab her attention and ask for those items we put in an order for arancini as an appetizer. The arancini (delicious!) was delivered to the table and finished before our drinks came, which was just a beer and a glass of wine. When the drinks came, we ordered our entrees and those came out quickly as well. The food was good, nothing remarkable enough to come back for the whole subpar experience. The check came in a dirty book that was scribbled all over and also included a 20% service fee for their "operational costs." read more

I've been to Il Piatto multiple times and my experiences have always varied. It used to be a solid place for bottomless brunch since it was a good deal compared to other places ($25 in spring 2023 to $40 in winter 2024). Now, there's nothing that differentiates it from other popular restaurants. Sometimes there'll be 12 flavors for mimosas, others there'll only be 3. Sometimes servers are attentive and keep your glass filled, other times they leave a pitcher at your table and don't return for a while. The food is good, again nothing great (calamari was crispy and flavorful, Italian shakshuka lacked depth of flavor, chocolate mousse tart was definitely kept in the fridge for a while because the shell was hard/stale-tasting). Il Piatto is fine for bottomless brunch, but it wouldn't be my first choice. read more
Sat on the patio on a delightful afternoon. We ordered an appetizer and a drink, and the drinks and came out. We then placed our dinner order. Finally, after we had been there a while, we inquired about our appetizer. It came out, but unfortunately our dinners came out about one minute later. I really don't like it when food arrives on top of each other like that, and I believe our appetizer order got misplaced. BF then ordered a glass of wine to go with us to dinner. I think, as a way of making it up to us, our server brought me out a half glass of wine for free. Made me feel better about the experience. The food was good, and I will come back here again. Especially since they tried to do some thing about the appetizer/entrée arrivals. read more
Il Piatto is a cute restaurant with a nice vibe. The customer service was great and everyone I encountered was friendly. I went for brunch and opted for the bottomless brunch option. With this option, you have unlimited mimosas for two hours and food from a prix-fixe menu. I'm usually a calamari girl but the arancini appetizer was calling my name. I ordered the Rigatoni Alla Panna for my main course and finished off brunch with the chocolate mousse. They also offer complimentary bread for the table. Everything I ate was delicious, however, the portion sizes were pretty small. I would recommend this restaurant to a friend but I would advise them not to come if they are super hungry. Overall, I had a good experience. The food and drinks were good, customer service was great, and there are parking garages nearby for guests. read more

While the food was fine, the fact that they add 20% service charge to all bills was off-putting. When I inquired with the server, I was told he only sees about 2% of that charge, making us feel compelled to give an additional amount to him for a tip. The food was pretty good, though service was slow despite what appeared to be plenty of staff and not many patrons in the restaurant. When it came time to finish up, a woman came to the table to clear plates and asked if we would like our food wrapped. I said just wrap mine, not my husband's. A while later, I see that same woman hanging around with my leftovers nowhere in sight. When our waiter comes back the table and asks if everything is ok, I said I'm not sure as she never came back with my leftovers. He goes to check and sure enough, they were thrown away. He blames language barrier. So now we have to wait for them to re-make my dish, which I really didn't need and tried to say that. They should have just offered to discount that entree. So, that was annoying and time consuming to sit and wait when we wanted to go. Entrees were good (pappardelle bolognese and chicken parm) and so was the bread. It was nice and crispy. Beet salad was unusual, but nothing to brag about. Probably wouldn't return. read more

The brunch was great and our service was great but very unhappy with the policy. There is a 20% service fee BUT that's not the servers tip. They only get 2% of that. We added an addition tip cause our server was great but this is a messed up policy and we won't be coming again read more
