Weird tipping policy... 20% added forcefully to "increase the wages", but then told those fees are not tips, and still listed a tip line? My lovelies, if your costs increased, reflect that in the effing prices listed on the menu. Be honest and stop camouflaging the cost of what you sell.

Came for lunch with two friends on a cold afternoon. We had a reservation and arrived around noon. The place was pretty much empty First problem was we were offered a table right by the front door. We told them it would be cold there, so they moved us to the table one away from the door. We took that table. I was freezing the entire meal, as was one of my lunch-mates. It was really uncomfortable. We ordered our entrees. I ordered the Il Piatto salad and asked for the salmon option on top. When my salad arrived, it did not have salmon on top. I assumed that the server likely didn't hear me, because the entree comes with smoked salmon so he might have thought I was referring to that as "with salmon". The problem here is that after we were served our entrees, we didn't see the server at all until well after we were done eating. No check in - no nothing. So I had no opportunity to request the salmon. The entrees themselves were "ok". My salad was good, but there was so much smoked salmon (it seemed like it must have been a half pound layer filling the bottom of the plate). Way too much smoked salmon. I ate less than half of it and the rest went to waste. My lunch mates said their entrees - the Gnocchi and the Spinach Ravioli - were "fine" but not something they would order again. When we were done with our meal, we sat and waited . . . and waited . . . and waited for the server to come over. Finally, after 20 minutes of sitting at the table with empty dirty plates, the server came and offered the check. We had made the reservation indicating we were celebrating a birthday and no mention was made of it at all. We told them we wanted to order a dessert. He brought it and we told him it was a birthday celebration. He smiled, removed the dessert, said he'd be right back, and returned a couple of minutes later with the same dessert with a lit candle and the plate saying "happy birthday". Good attempt at recovery. Overall, the food was fine, but not great. The service was disappointing and, I hope, a one-off. Sitting us at the front door on a cold day when the place was empty was just rude. Don't expect to come back.

My husband and I stopped in while we were riding scooters through town. Glad we did! [[HIGHLIGHT]]We got an authentic Italian vibe when we walked in. It was clean and fancy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu looked amazing, but we were here for a small bite. So we stayed towards the appetizers. We ordered and ate at the bar. Meatballs and Caesar salad. Both are highly recommended by us!! The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable about not only menu items, but the city as well. He gave us great tourist suggestions.

Food- Short rib ravioli 4/5. I finished it so quick- it was so so yummy! I do feel like the pesto was a bit overpowering, however, I still thoroughly enjoyed this dish. Calamari 4.5/5. DRINK- Princess peach 5/5. Loved this drink Service- 5/5. Our waiter was so attentive and made sure we were well taken care of [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance- 5/5. Dim lighting and soft music. Great place for a good catch up or a nice date![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall I would 100% come back! I'd love to try the other food and drink options! Totally recommend!

Food was okay. Service was good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance was nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had the calamari which was a very small portion to share. I ordered the paparadelle bolognese I believe? It was flavorful but too salty for my taste but my friend enjoyed it.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice cozy place, attentive staff; an Italian restaurant in DC Downtown.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was on a business meeting at this place, we were three people, each one ordered a non alcoholic beverage, I ordered the limoncello, then we ordered the express lunch, which was a 3 course meal- an appetiser, entree, dessert. I ordered Arancini, Eggplant dish served with linguine pasta in red sauce and strawberry sorbet. The portion size, especially of the appetiser and the dessert can be slightly better but considering it's meant to be a meal for one, won't complain. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambience though is not outstanding but not bad at all to come for a business meeting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If in the area again, would like to come back.

Server crossed out "tips are not expected" to get customer to overtip

This restaurant already adds a 20 percent service charge which is shameful. I would be ok with a service charge but not 20 percent. Then this server tried crossing out how "tips are not expected " to take advantage of the customer to over tip. Beware. I will not be going to this restaurant ever.

First, our waiter Erick was amazing - very attentive and fun. Always kept our glasses full. I don't drink so Erick was nice enough to serve me other drinks without changing our table's menu. There is an underground parking garage right around the corner on the same block as well. Everything we ate was great! No complaints at all from the whole table.

I ordered a Caesar with no croutons and it was definitely interesting. There were radishes, cucumber slices, onions, and Bibb lettuce added to it, possibly to make up for not having croutons. I would say the homemade dressing didn't have that much Caesar flavor. What blew me away was the seafood pasta with gluten free tagliatelle. The noodles were cooked perfectly, held their shape, and had a large amount of sauce on them. There was an overwhelmingly large amount of seafood provided and it was all cooked perfectly. Nothing was chewy or rubbery. Lastly, I thought it was weird that there was an auto gratuity added. Overall, the pasta carried this review for sure and I will be thinking about it for days to come.

Solid spot for a tasty, extremely filling lunch! I visited Il Piatto for their express lunch with a few coworkers, and it was the perfect way to celebrate the end of our project. The express lunch is a great deal -- $40 for an appetizer, entree, and dessert -- and the portions are remarkably generous. There's a pretty wide variety of options for each course, but I settled on the poached pear to start, followed by the eggplant parmesan, and ending with the mango sorbet. The poached pear was outstanding! The pear was super flavorful and sweet, but not overly so. It went wonderfully with the slightly bitter raddichio, crunchy walnuts, and creamy goat cheese in the accompanying salad. It was a refreshing, but still satisfying, way to start off the meal. I similarly loved the eggplant parmesan; the eggplant was tender and savory, and it was topped with a very generous portion of melted cheese. It came with a side of linguine, which was solidly al dente and all-around delicious. It was a huge portion, so I was quite sleepy and quite full for the rest of the day. The sorbet was a great, light way to end the meal after the richness of the eggplant parmesan; I loved the mango flavor, and the sorbet was perfectly creamy, refreshing, tart, and not overly sweet. The overall ambiance was delightful, and the staff was incredibly friendly. The "express" lunch was not remarkably "express," so it really only works if you have at least two hours to set aside for lunch, but the staff was super attentive and kind.

Went for brunch with a friend and both the food and drinks were amazing. There are so many different flavors of mimosas to order, and our waitress was super quick to give refills. The downside is the pricing. There's some really tiny text at the bottom of the menu about a 20% service fee, which my friend and I had assumed was auto-gratuity--it is not. So if you come here, keep in mind that the price reflected is only 83% of what the actual total will be. It was honestly so souring to see the bill hiked up 40+% at the end because of fees and tips, so I'm not sure I would come here again.

The service recommendations were good and the portion sizes were perfect. The chicken parmigiana was very good with a side of limón on it.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was lively especially for a Wednesday night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were a party of ten and had a reservation. We got arancini, calamari and burrata appetizers. The bites were good. I had the pasta bolognese for my main dish, it was delicious and I took enough home for a second dinner. The table ordered one of each dessert and we each had a bite of everything. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall it was a great meal but it was a little too loud for me![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This restaurant…read morewas recommended to me by a colleague so I decided to make the walk from where I am currently staying. Let me start by saying that the atmosphere in this restaurant is one that is so welcoming the minute you arrive. I approached the hostess stand to inquire if there was bar seating available to which the polite hostesses provided a gentle hand gesture and oral direction to the bar. While walking to the bar area, I encountered what I presume to have been a server who was likely standing watch from a distance over his service area, who apologized as our paths met. (There was no reason to apologize, very polite nonetheless) I found a seat at the bar and was greeted by Paul. Paul was an exceptionally pleasant and answered all my immediate questions while preparing my initial cocktail during happy hour. We discussed the menu and he provided great insight which helped finalize my decision for the evening . In the meantime, bar manager Laura stopped by to ensure that I was taken care of to which I informed her that Paul and I spoke and he is making a beverage for me. For the food...the Caesar Salad is #1. I am a food snob and this salad HITS!! While enjoying my salad I inquired about their cast bourbon selection. The staff was very knowledgeable and provided a price list to coincide with their higher end selections. My 40 layer lasagna arrived some time in the midst of the conversation where Paul extended a courtesy sampling of a wine that he recommended that pairs nicely with my meal. It was perfect. I closed out my meal with an espresso type martini, at which time Paul and Laura further extended and offered me a sampling of one of the bourbons I was looking at. I cannot say enough about this establishment. I can't wait to go back and have already recommended via phone conversations to three people and I just left. The evening and encounter was more than just pleasantries with a customer, rather I felt as if I was the only one. If the owner or manager is reading this, Paul and Laura are 10+ and I will be back. Thank you so much for the best meal I have had in DC over the last 2 weeks. Can't wait to do it again!!!

The place is very moodily charming because you're on a basement level with no natural light, so everything is dark and the vibe is Italian grandma kitsch. The whole thing manages to work. They were busy, and our waitress, who was highly professional (honestly she seemed like she could be a government employee) was being pulled to some VIP table in their back room (which we were seated adjacent to), so she was not as available as we would have liked. We got a couple cocktails and started with the Caesar salad and the meatballs. For a place that boasts about its portion sizes, there were only two meatballs, and they were fine. The free bread wasn't impressive, especially considering the extraordinary bread situation that we had at The Dip the previous evening. The salad was undersalted and kinda bland. So, overall, not the most promising beginning. We all shared the one main dish of Linguini Cardinale after our waitress sold us on it. It's sort of like a vodka sauce that mated with lobster, and it was delicious, but it was quite rich and heavy. We did like it though. Dessert was where we went all out with the strawberry cheesecake, the pistachio strawberry mousse cake, and the dark chocolate mousse cake. The one that had pistachio was terrible--everything tasted artificial and the texture wasn't right. The chocolate one was OK. Luckily the cheesecake was where it was at. It's not Junior's-level or anything, but compared to the other two, it stood out. We're glad we came here to have tried it once and we had a good time as a family, so it'll be a fond memory. We don't feel a pressing need to return, but we would recommend it for folks to try once.

I'm glad I said yes because the focaccia is very fresh and was a great addition to the meal. For my main, I ordered the vodka pasta, which was very flavorful and very saucy. I love a good, thick vodka sauce and that's what you'll get here. The one part of the pasta I didn't really enjoy was the chicken inside the pasta. I think I would've preferred a grilled chicken option instead of the chicken that comes in the pasta. That being said, this place is a gem. The prices are great and the portions are hearty. The standout in the Neri were the shellfish for me. Even though they were small bits, the pieces tasted fresh. In the Gnocchi, the saltiness of the prosciutto, though not overwhelming, paired well with the basil sauce. I finished a little more than half of each plate before boxing it up for a small lunch the next day. The service was great and the tall ceiling and windowed dining room provided a nice atmosphere.
