Yes, the prices are a touch high but the food is wonderful. We ordered the tuna and bean salad, lemon risotto with shrimp, and fried squid and potatoes. Preparations on all the food were simple which allowed the quality of the ingredients to shine. The risotto was the star. Brightly lemon-flavored, studded with ample bits of sweet, small shrimp and served in a frico bowl, it tastes like Amalfi on a plate. And, despite the fact that I don't believe there is bad bread in Italy, the bread served here may be my favorite of any that I've had. The restaurant can be difficult to find but both the food and the stunning scenery are worth the effort. Service was friendly and the staff spoke adequate English. This visit was off-season so if you're going in summer YMMV. read more

Definitely the best meal we had while on the Amalfi Coast. We split a bunch of antipasti, including the anchovies, tuna and bean salad, eggplant parmigiana and the sautéed clams. All were outstanding the flavors were amazing. For my entree I had the Totani "alla Luciana" which is local red squid with potatoes roasted along with olive oil, white wine and herbs. That's it, nothing else. But it was perfect. The taste was clean, simple and delicious and shows how true Italian cooking is performed, the ingredients speak for themselves. We enjoyed a couple bottles of recommended the local white wine, which was light, crisp, refreshing and paired with everything we ordered. Service was amazing and the ambiance, right next to the sea wall and under dramatic cliffs, was perfect. Highly recommended. read more

We enjoyed Trattoria da Armandino so much we went twice. Do yourself a favor and walk down to the beach (easy walk down). It's very unassuming (from looking at it) that they can cook the delicious dishes that we had. Had the pasta with squids, fried anchovies, and the mussels in tomato sauce. All very amazing and the prices are much better than the restaurants on the cliffs with views. This a beach side restaurant and has nice views directly out to the sea. Came here for breakfast before a tour and the croissants were the what we had on our trip. Saw them making breads homemade in the back and after seeing the reviews so we came back here for lunch. Food was fantastic. One of our best meals for the trip. Definitely recommend going here for lunch or dinner. The customer service was fantastic. We had one of our most favorite and memorable meals from our Italy trip at this lovely sea side restaurant located in Marina di Praia, a small pebble beach and one of the two main points of access to the town of Praiano. We arrived here from Fornillo beach by water taxi, approximately a 20-25 minute ride. There isn't much at Marina di Praia in terms of things to do except for a few restaurants, a hotel and a nearby popular dance club. Going out of your way to visit this restaurant though is totally worth it as the food here is exceptional. Be sure to make a reservation in advanced (have your hotel call the restaurant to do this since they only take reservations by phone) as they are pretty popular and get very busy. To start with we were warmly welcomed by the server (who also happens to be the owner?) an older gentleman with so much charm and charisma. I got to practice my broken Italian the whole time I spoke with him, while ordering our food, etc and never felt discriminated against or made fun of. On the other hand, I think he appreciated my effort. All of the tables are outside which allows for a perfect lunch with a gorgeous view. The atmosphere is relaxed and beach like, nothing is rushed here so take your time to enjoy the scenery and the food. Our mission while in the Amalfi Coast was to eat all things seafood and this was the perfect place to start doing just that. We began our meal with the marinated anchovies. They were so fresh with the perfect amount of saltiness and acidity. We also shared the scialatielli alle vongole, a local pasta from this region with thick, short noodles, olive oil and clams. Lastly we also shared a whole grilled fish. A seabass grilled to perfection and dressed with some olive oil and lemon on the side. At the recommendation of our server we got a bottle of a delicious local wine from the Vico Equense area. It was light, fresh, crisp and paired perfectly with our food. To end this wonderful meal we got the delizia al limone, a traditional lemon dessert, which was decadent and not overtly sweet. The dessert is composed of a sponge cake, covered with a delicious lemon sauce and stuffed with a lemon based cream. It was the best delizia al limone we had while in the Amalfi Coast. After our delightful meal we went for a walk along the path at the bottom part of the cliff, jumped in the cold water and sunbathed for a bit along some locals. Marina di Praia is small compared to the other Amalfi Coast beaches thus not as frequented and allows for pure relaxation away from the crowds. I definitely recommend coming to this restaurant for lunch as the views are fantastic and this beach is worth getting away for. read more

Amazing food and friendly, accommodating staff. We ate here twice in the same week while staying in the area. Everything our group (6 people) tried was really good. Our first night, it looked like it might rain, but our server said, " no rain" as we were seated outside the overhang. A few sprinkles, and they quickly moved us to a sheltered table that had freed up without even asking. We joked the rest of the week with her as we walked by, "Will it rain?" Such a wonderful experience. read more

Best best best meal in italy! We went here 4 times in our 4 day stay in Praiano. The most unpretentious, fresh and delicious food with the warmest waiters and owners that made us feel right at home. The seafood is super fresh ; try the grilled prawns- best i've ever eaten in my life, the arrabiata and the lemon risotto, fried sardines. Their lemon delicia is also out of this world. What a gem! Last time we were here we never tried it but now we totally fell in love with it and the people. We had our 7 month baby with us and they were so nice to him and he totally loved them. But the food is amazing and the owner Nono Amandino is still taking orders and serves the food, if you don't have a reservation they usually can always solve a table for you. The food is amazing and made with love. The local squid is the best try it grilled totally different than fried. Their lemon gamberi risotto out of this world. read more

LOVED this place! Was recommended by others staying in our hotel and it was excellent! The rice balls and stuffed peppers we had as appetizers (recommended by the owner who is a hoot to interact with!) were great. My ravioli (home made) was the best meal I had in two weeks in Italy. Family atmosphere, right on the little Praiano beach so lots of activity but not disruptive, just provides an authentic local experience. You can tell the food is made with pride. Holy heck. This place is stellar! We stopped in for a late lunch. We had to wait about half an hour and we are so glad we did. Despite other surrounding restaurants having a decent amount of open tables, Armandino's was packed to the gills with a wait. Atmosphere: all the tables are outside and have ocean views from La Praia beach. It's romantic and fun and just makes you appreciate life and time spent in Praiano! Truly a place to relax, slow down, and share time with good company and food. Food: incredible local seafood! We loved every bite and wished the meal wouldn't end. We started with white wine that they serve in a carafe with slices of fresh peach. Unique and truly refreshing. We started with a pan seared mozzarella (wow!) and clams in a simple sauce of olive oil, lemon, and parsley with fresh bread. The clams were the best we've ever had. Fresh, tender, and so delicious. We were sad when it was all gone! We finished the meal with the totani e patate--squid and potatoes that are "fried" in a pan. They're more pan seared than fried as they are not breaded. It was unique, flavorful, and super fresh. We've never had anything like it before. We left full, but feeling great as the food was so fresh and overall healthy. The menu as a whole is loaded with local seafood specialties. We will be back to try different dishes and reorder some of what we've already had. We didn't have dessert, but the dessert looked insanely good. Next time! Staff & Service: the staff was very interactive and helped us choose between a few items. They answered questions and were kind and playful, making us feel welcome and right at home. Great hospitality. We were staying in Praisano and, based on a lot of published recs, went out of our way to try Da Armandino. Maybe it was a bad night. Maybe it was different season, but our dinner was - at best - mediocre. Two microwaves visible in the kitchen. The food was "fine." I had a zucchini flower (which I love) that was stuffed with ricotta and sausage that I didn't finish. The sausage just tasted off. Plus the prices are quite high relative to both the quality and other restaurants in the area. We had an a mixed vegetable antipasti, a pasta and then left and went back to our hotel restaurant, Il Pino, to finish dinner, which was wonderful. Don't know what went off, but I could never recommend it. If it's close and you're really hungry, I suppose why not. But if it's a ways away, don't bother. Il Pirrita right nearby was much more interesting. read more

the owner is a racist! He treated my fiance as a peasant and thought he was stealing because he was black. do not eat at this restaurant. coming from the usa/ la this has got to be the worst service ever. my fiance noticed that the table we were sitting at was wiggly and unstable so he decided to go inside a grab a few napkins. the owner came up to him, slapped his hand and said to stop grabbing napkins. he was as shocked as you probably are. he kept yelling at him in italian and started questioning his manhood about not respecting his restaurant. my fiance was furious and i'm surprised he didn't hit the guy. long story short the owner kept yelling and pointed his finger and kicked us out of the restaurant. oh and we were celebrating our first trip to italy, my fiances birthday which was that very day and our recent engagement. so embarrassing and humiliating as i am from italian/sicilian descent. zero stars read more
