Our favorite restaurant in Monterosso! Went back a second night because it was so good. Great location and staff was very nice too!

Best Italian Food I have ever had in my life. Went to Cinque for our honeymoon and the trofie el pesto at this location is to die for. It's the freshest pesto one will ever have. On top of that the seafood is so fresh that it just melts in your mouth. Every bite just disintegrated as easily as I could eat them. Also get a side of Tiramisu and you will be complete. The service was magnificent and the ambiance well, we were sitting by the ocean. So it was perfect!

While on a bus tour of Cinqe Terra, our guide suggested Belvedere for lunch. Noted area for pesto, we had to try. Three letters...OMG!!! First the location. Overlooking the beautifully clear blue sea, the view was spectacular! Next the drinks. Not much of lemmoncello, this drink was perfect! Now the food. My wife and I split a pesto pasta dish. Mind you my wife is Italian and a great cook. Upon our first tastes, we could not believe how delicious it was! Hot, rich, creamy and smothered in a perfect pesto sauce. I was trying to think of a way to get 6 takeout orders to have back in the States, but realized that was a no go!! Truly a MUST visit, you won't be dissapointed!!

Restaurant located next to the sea... had a nice dinner with good house wine and tasteful seafood antipasti - nice variation. Fritti calamari was good, but oil could be more fresh and misti salati was only greens and carrot for 5€.. But was pretty good. A good variation of seafoods.

After a carbo-loaded visit to Rome, we arrived in Monterosso craving something a little lighter and more protein focused. Good thing there are plenty of seafood restaurants to choose from in this relatively small town. With all of these options on this particular night, we (not kidding) pretty much just started walking, following the smell of good food until we hit Belvedere. We were also looking for something on the water, so that box was checked as well. We grabbed a table outside, which was under a covered awning (good because it was chilly out) and could see and hear the sea during our entire meal, even after it got dark. We split a garden salad to start, dipped plenty of bread (so much for avoiding carbs) in oil and vinegar, and ordered both the bronzino and black and white pasta (carbs again) with mussels in a red sauce. The fish was excellent, fresh, drenched in lemon that was very likely grown no less than 50 feet away, and this dish was the perfect complement to the homemade pasta and red sauce. We split a bottle of local Chianti, and took our time finishing up. We were too full for dessert, though it seemed like most of the people around us got something, and it all looked excellent. This spot is great--really good, fresh food, a nice view of the sea, and it's big enough that you probably won't have to wait long during the busy season. Since we came before that season started, we could have had 8 tables to ourselves, no problem at all. Yes, all 8 tables need bread (carbs) to start.

Great place to go for a nice lunch or dinner overlooking a fabulous view. The stuffed mussels were delicious!

Monterosso al Mare is 1 out of 5 cities along the western coast in the area called Cinque Terre. The coastal exploration of the 5 cities is amazing. Monterosso is the northern city filled with many restaurants to check out. We walked around a bit before landing at this gem in the haystack. The ambience is homely. Most ppl sat at the patio since the weather was warm. Sitting inside is also intimate and more quiet. Food: OMG. This place has the most amazing seafood: Fresh, Cheap, large portion, and so authentic. They do serve authentic Italian seafood but also cater for foreign tourists. They go the extra mile to make sure we felt welcomed and comfortable. This place does get packed. So i recommend making a reservation in advance. Positive: 1. The price is less than half of what i would normally pay in So cal. We paid only $70 for 5 dishes that fed 4 ppl. 2. The portions are large enough to share family style. For $70, we were all pretty stuffed. 3. The menu is translated in many common languages like English, Spanish, Chinese, French, and Japanese. 4. Service is exceptional. Our server is extremely friendly and attended to our needs right away. It's also a plus that he spoke good English. Since the hospitality was so memorable, this was the first restaurant where we tipped when it wasn't required. We left the restaurant with the best experience. The food was extremely fresh, flavorful, and dirt cheap. I know i won't be able to find another restaurant similar in so Cal.

    Sea bass filet

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at this restaurant and it sounds like so did many other Yelp reviewers as well. The food was pretty amazing and if we were back in SoCal this meal would have cost me way more than I paid here. We had the seafood salad to start things off the local way and I got a pint of an Italian beer because few restaurants carry Guinness. We then ordered the sea bass filet for her because it was the "catch of the day" item and I had the black and white pasta with mussels. Sounds like we had a lot of food but not really because the portion sizes are smaller here than in the US.

The must-get Anfora Belvedere, fish "soup"!!
    Lin Z.

Waterfront dining, freshest of seafood and reasonable prices make this place a no-brainer. The phenomenal standout, "must get" for us was the house specialty --"Anfora Belvedere"-- a bargain at 49E, served out of large clay pot overflowing with whole octopus, lobster, prawns and other seafood deliciousness. Our family of 4 shared this along with their seafood antipasto (16E pp) and a bruschetta app. The restaurant was crowded, including some unfortunately stereotypical tourists (we heard "I don't speak no EYE-talian; can I have the broo-SHETT-a") and service was slightly strained when we were there in late May -- so I can imagine it could get way challenging in prime summer season. Bottomline- it's a great spot to enjoy and savor some fabulous, beautiful food memories in Monterosso.

    View from outside dining

Dropped off by the tourist bus at high noon. They told me to wait in line but forgot about me cos I was last in line. The waitresses were buzzing like bees. Don't know why they give bread without butter or olive oil. It's a little annoying that a outfit making millions does not attend to the details. The fish came in 15 mins and was good. The vegetables overdone and squishy. Would not recommend. Fish was good

    Seafood Stew

Reservations are definitely recommended for this place. It's located in the older part of town under the railway tracks and across from the beach. We reserved a week before and they gave us a really nice table outside close to the beach. We ordered their specialty seafood stew. The stew is cooked in a stone urn and they pour out the contents into a huge stone bowl. They say this dish is for 2 people but really it could be shared between 3 or 4. The stew consists of a whole lobster, a whole octopus, more than 30 mussels, squid, large pieces of white fish all in a tomato based broth. It's really tasty and is really good to dip your bread in. We didn't order anything else because we were warned of the portion size. Other tables had various pasta dishes that looked really good. If you like seafood this place is definitely worth a try.

An amazing find! We loved this place so much that we came back again for dinner a second night, taking the train from Riomaggiore just for another meal here! The seafood salad is the best we've found on mainland Italy (we are usually willing to go to Sardinia for seafood salad this fantastic!) Service was perfect and we felt like family! Highly recommend for anyone! Black and white pasta, made here, pesto pasta, seafood salad and tiramisu are all must haves!

Special seafood soup $50 for two people Best seafood ever
    Diana H.

Best seafood EVER!!!! This was our second time here. The first time we ordered seafood rice and it was sooo good. The rice cooked perfectly with tomato sauce with clams and mussels. The guy next to us recommended the bowl of seafood that fed his whole family. We returned and ordered the special seafood soup and it was the best thing we at on our trip. It's a mixture of clams, mussels, giant shrimp, squid, fish, a giant octopus and a whole lobster. We almost finished everything only out of greed. They cook it in a clay pot and pour into a big serving bowl. The soup was so rich and flavourful; best for dipping with bread. Our service was 5/5. He was so friendly and very attentive. Wow this is a must if your in Monterosso.

As we walked by, we noticed some of their employees inside so we asked if we could make a reservation for dinner for 6pm or 6;30pm. They recommended 6pm and took my name. We arrived promptly at 6pm and were the 2nd table seated. I'm so glad we came early. Over the next few nights we noticed so many people waiting outside all night long. I will tell you that my branzino was amazing. Fresh and cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed my healthy meal and I don't mind deboning a whole fish myself. My daughter had the linguine with clams which was also very delicious. My son had the pesto lasagna which was so-so. We were expecting red sauce bolognese so it could just be that we just had different expectations. He also ordered the steak and enjoyed it. My husband had the fruitti de mare and thought it was just okay. Something to know is that because they are so busy with so many people waiting, they like you to order everything together. We noticed a server who got frustrated with another table who tried to order apps, and then tried to order the main meals after they finished them, then dessert. These employees are hustling and trying to turn tables, as you see the queue outside waiting. It's a tiny cozy restaurant with a lot of demand. I would recommend this place for certain dishes, especially the fresh fish.

Excellent Choice For Dinner…read more.. My wife and I arrived in Monterosso al Mare for the first week of our vacation around Cinque Terre. Where to eat? Our hotel - Villa Steno.....a wonderful place - plotted several recommendations on a map. The first place we tried was Oscar. Our impressions were as follows: Pros: - Most of the seating was on the patio out front which was delightful - We shared the Seafood Salad and Pasta with Seafood. Both were great! The second dish was among the best I've ever tried. - Dark bread accompanying dinner was amazing - A bottle of local Sauvignon Blanc went perfectly with the meal - It seemed the owner or one of the owners served all the customers. She was friendly, efficient and how she did it I'll never know. - Prices were very reasonable for everything we ordered Cons: - Only one: Oscar, like most restaurants in town, opened at 7 PM which was a bit late for us Americans. Both my wife and I heartily suggest trying Oscar.

We sat outside, which was full of bugs, and waited 2 hours for the main dish. Dinner ran from 7pm to 10pm. Outside seating meant waiters couldn't see our empty table -- we were essentially ignored. The food was the biggest disappointment. Anchovies lacked flavor, fish was bland with no interesting sauce, and the raw fish felt imported -- not local as advertised. This directly contradicts what the Michelin reputation implies. We paid €365 for 4 starters, 2 first dishes, 2 second dishes -- no dessert. Not worth it. I'm not writing this out of revenge. My family doesn't travel often and this trip took significant effort and planning. We wanted a dinner that reflected local Ligurian culture and was worth the price. Miky delivered neither. It is, in our experience, a tourist trap riding on an outdated reputation. Future visitors: please be aware.
